The point was to mention a name that would make us cringe cause they were high when they declared it (which is kind of a dig at charlie puth lol) but i do get it now! the album is an artistic vision that’s not meant to make us comfortable, the album is actually FUNNY and filled with jokes, like everything doesn’t have to be taken that seriously

The difference between her work with Jack and her work with Aaron is that with Jack they are such good friends that there's a lot of teeheeing and inside jokes and High-Fiving, and not enough editing and constructive criticism of each other's contributions. With Aaron it's more of a true artistic collaboration.

I’m a hardcore Swift fan but I always respect and appreciate hearing your takes, it’s neutral and honest without coming across as negatively biased or prejudicial. So it’s nice to have that glimpse into the opinions of a music enthusiast / general listener. I love the album but that’s my bias, I concede that you’re right about her artistry starting to wear thin. Hopefully Eras Tour and the film she’s directing in 2025, she’ll find some new collaborators and have new inspiration to revitalize her sound and invigorate her artistry.

You taylor swift fans are so over dramatic. Taylor was not the only person in that video for crying out loud. There was like 21 plus other people and none of them complained except taylor. I'm not saying what ye did was right, the whole video is just weird and wrong but why is taylor singled out like the sole victim? Victim mentality is what he was criticising which is what taylor has shown her entire life.
The fact that she harpes on 8 years later about some mean words someone said about her and petty recording drama emphasises this point. People are going through real trauma, real issues and she expects to world to cry for her for something that most people would brush off. Everybody has moved on, Kim and kanye have gone through MUCH MUCH worse but taylor can't let this go.

I know there are people that are going though a lot and please dont act like she's never been there because it's not just ye and Kim also the media and magazines and that's absolutely destroy her (also the media used to say that she's pregnant until she has an eating disorder and exercise more than eating so Taylor's also part of those people) Taylor is the victim of the music industry, celebrities, media like if I was her I would already kill myself. So far she hasn't write anything about ye or Kim for 5 albums (even if there is it's very rare it's mostly about media or characters that she created or her life) again, if I was Taylor i would NEVER moved on, maybe I will but I'll never forget because I work as an artist now and a guitarist in my band and I never forget about my bullies (the way they ripped my drawings and make fun of me playing guitar, they never apologize and just moved on like Kim and ye as if they never did shit on me that'll stay forever) sorry if this is personal but you talk about trauma

I think this album was emotional catharsis from an insane few years where she was also reviewing her life's work through the rerecording. I think since she writes constantly to process things, Jack and Aaron just did what they could to make it cohesive. I think she just wanted to release it all to release it and close the book for a while. I don't think she's particularly concerned with the reception of anyone but her fans at this point. I disagree that she doesn't care about this material, but i don't think she had time to polish it up because she wants to be done with it. I suspect she will take a break if things go well in her life, especially since it seems she might want to have a family soon. I tend to give her a lot of grace considering how much people still don't take her seriously. As someone that had my 1st kid at 34, i can't imagine having to start over if that's what she was planning. I imagine it does feel like getting sent back to high school after losing a long term partner... whether that works out for her i guess we'll see.

the racism line is literally not bad, and i say this because the song contintues to say that even if she could go back to that time, it was never even "fun" back then. • @noahs5636
      @noahs5636 27 днів тому

fr, literally the very next lines are her saying that the game was dumb and that her answer was stupid/ignorant because the idea of that time in her head is nothing like reality and she would've hated it then too for a multitude of reasons. Like I get that it's a shocking line, especially coming from her, but she doesn't actually say anything wrong. She is literally agreeing with the people who are calling that line ignorant or out of touch. THATS THE POINT!!!

I think the album takes a few careful listens to really sink in… I’m a huge Taylor fan and on first listen I was underwhelmed, but I think the hype was so crazy there was only room to not meet expectations. When paired with the second half, so much more of a story is told, and Aaron Dessner’s production sounds so much more interesting than Jack Antonoff’s which is starting to sound really samey.
They do need to stop putting so many songs in C major back to back though, it seems to happen every album and it just makes the album drag out those sections…

When I first heard it I pretty much had the same take as you, but now that I’ve sat with it and fully digested the lyrics and came to a conclusion as to what this album is about, it’s one of my favorites. I’d love to hear an analysis from you after you’re more familiar with the album.

At first, I was really sceptical about the sound of the album (especially of the Jack Antonoff tracks) and the lyrics!
However, over the past couple of days, the album - both the standard and the Anthology version - strongly grew on me! Actually, I don’t think that the songwriting is bad! Of course it isn‘t on par with folklore or evermore (my favourites), but I believe that this is intentional! I feel like Taylor really needed to write her soul off when she created this album - thus the sometimes corny lyrics that seem weird at the first moment!
In conclusion, I would actually give it a solid 7/10 now instead of a 4-5/10 after the first listen! It‘s a grower!

Im a casual listener of TS but honestly, this album is lackluster and sounds so forced to be made into a song, its stale and it sounds like the evermore and folklore. The thing im kinda annoyed in songs in general is when they mispronounce words like changing the stress in order to fit in with the melody. Every song has the same melodical pattern like the one note at every syllable, the descending note at the end of phrases, and the random jump of pitch, its sometimes awkward and really forced, its the opposite of form follows function (in this case, melody should follow the lyrics). Lyric-wise, to those who isn't a die hard Swiftie, goodluck with understanding the little easter eggs and references; almost every song in the album have several cringe lyrics (to those about to bring up some random lyrics on her songs in her discography, i admit and i know that Taylor, can, from time to time make great lyricism but honestly, set your biases aside). Overall, this is one of my least favorite album of her. i have listened to it for a third time and its not really working for me, imo an album should be appealing for the first or second listen, if it takes you many repeats before you like it, it means that you're just getting used to it and tolerating it, which i think is not good. I miss her old writing and good to great production.
This is just a criticism, it's not her worst, not her greatest either, you do you if you consider it the best

This album has been growing on me. Even some of the cringe lines I’ve come around on, but it feels like she’s a little creatively bankrupt and it seems like she tried to counteract that by creating a lot which was a bad move. Folklore/evermore feel somewhat refreshing and this feels exhausting. She needed more Aaron, less songs, more ideas. Still some great writing in parts though. I think Jack messed up this album. He could’ve changed some of the lyrics and fixed a lot of the production.

I wish people would realize if she's writing like a teenager, it's to serve a narrative. If you think she's not threatening in a song about how people underestimate her, perhaps look at the history of what happens to people who underestimate and screw her over in the industry. Yes she writes autobiographical songs but i think it's only to serve emotional catharsis and craft a story people can relate to. If a line is cringe, it's probably supposed to be. Describing someone as a "tattooed golden retriever" who is a pretentious artist that takes themselves too seriously serves a purpose. I can't tell you how many women are immediately reminded of cringe high school boyfriends by those other lines.... made to feel "so high school"... it's a joke. It's supposed to be. And don't get me started on the racists line. A child realizing that romanticizing the past is wrong because there's no time that isn't filled with suffering isn't insensitive.

He probably loves the lyrics and thinks they're clever. The song was made *for* him. Also for So High School and you said "is it 2001?" So High School is camp, not because it's 'supposed to be a joke', but because you're just not supposed to take it all that seriously. She's not trying to be a poet on this one. She's not even trying to make it sound like a high schooler wrote it. It's just supposed to be childish and fun with all the juvenile references because being with Travis makes her feel youthful again like she's in some teen rom com. Yes the lines are silly and cringe, but I think that's what she was going for! I never got the impression that she was trying to be clever or smart with this one, she just wrote it because it was fun, and I think the lyrics and production really capture what she's going for. If that's not your cup of tea, that's perfectly fine, but I feel like this song is the definition of camp.

Unfortunately, as did he, you’ve completely missed the allegory (and nuance) in her lyrics, or picked one line out of context (eg 1830s/racists - she actually points out the pitfalls of nostalgia). FYI, thanK you aIMee: the title is likely a red herring…it’s more likely to be about Scott Borchetta, given he screwed her over badly, but instead, she’s come back with a big FU to him and those like him.
