When people say TTPD all sounds the same I honestly feel like they're gaslighting me. I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion but there's no way loml and ICDIWABH could be accused of being the same, and I could randomly pick any rub of three songs from the tracklist and they'd be completely different from each other
I will be the guilty one and say I felt that way at the first listen. And then the second listen, I was like....ummmmmmmm I need to rethink everything my brain thought earlier and reevaluate my recent life decisions. I don't want to talk about the 3rd or 4th listens. haha!
First listen it definitely turned into white noise.

Some songs are about a guy she was in a 6 year relationship with and as far as I could guess… he didn’t really do anything; they just fizzled out.
The ones that sound like low blows, or pretty toxic… they are about Matty Healy (frontman of 1975).

Joe Alwyn, a British actor.
90% of this album is about Matty.
Joe did do things that really damaged their relationship. He clearly suffers from serious depression. Perhaps, TRD. Treatment Resistant Depression. I can attest from experience that it is possible to have a good relationship while sick with this horrendous illness, but the sick person must pursue ongoing treatment, both medications and therapy. And Taylor needed to seek education on how she could help AND how she shouldn't try to help. If Joe was doing the stiff upper lip thing, that was a big mistake. If Taylor was trying to fix him, that was a mistake. After 33 years of marriage, I can attest that a good marriage is possible with TRD.
It undoubtedly did not help that Joe was not interested in sex.

This album gets better with every listen. From start to finish, all 31 songs
I think that you (along with 90% of the rest of the world’s population) are taking Taylor’s lyrics too literally. Taylor is an artist, not a documentarian. Her music is “diaristic” and “confessional” in the sense of inspiration, but that doesn’t mean that people should think they are exposing “reality” when they try to pinpoint who any particular song is “about” as if the song was a chapter in her autobiography. She’s conveying emotions rooted in personal history and she sprinkles in real life details but her primary goal, as an artist is generally not to tell us “true stories”, as such.
TTPD has become my favorite album. Not just my fave Taylor, but my fave of all time. I agree with some swifties who have said this album is a “grower, not a shower.” That has been my experience. I liked it when I first heard it but, as of now, I’ve grown completely obsessed with it. More obsessed than I’ve ever been with any other album. After over 30 listens, I’m still entranced. I still listen to it every day.

It is her sad songs that make me stay a fan of her's lolm is a masterpiece to me...but I think knowing the back story helps understand, but the lyricism is poetry.

I think he made up his own mind; I’m just sorry he focused on the sound rather than the lyrics, which I think are stunning. I also think they didn’t want the production to be a distraction-can you imagine all the layers of “I Can Do It Either a Broken Heart” for that one? 😬
@@iteachlit That's why "King Of My Heart" is one of my least favorite in reputation album. I wanna process the lyrics but the sounds are so messy, chaotic and busy.
I think he was focusing on his dog more than the whole album. Granted, his dog is cute, but at least try to act like you’re paying attention to the album. The yawning throughout the entire video was annoying as well. Get some sleep already!! If I’m going to watch a reaction video, I expect people to be focused on the music and lyrics. You can like it or hate it, but at least be awake and focused. That was really annoying, tbh.

Those people who said this double album was awful were actually haters who would say anything, like those lyrics, they don’t know anything about lyricism and descriptive language, you actually need to know the language to use it, like literary devices, copywriting techniques. “You smoke and ate 7 bars of chocolate, we declare charlie puth should be a bigger artist” is the same descriptive language as “our fields of dreams engulfed in fire” is just the latter is a metaphor and more poetic but a great songwriter NEED TO HAVE BOTH because we are not poetic and tortured every moment of our life, we talk shit a lot. The album is kinda a reaction to Midnights in the sense that she did momentarily leave Joe but something brought them back together, she left for the tour and he ended things I guess, she was reeling but had the tour and then Matty love-bombed her, promised marriage and kids and then ghosted her. The album is honestly devastating, no one should have to go through that while also dealing with media scrutiny, pressure from fake fans, and a label still expecting her to push out her rerecords, preform and record a new album.
She didn't leave Joe. They were apart at one point because he was away filming and she was in the studio, but they weren't broken up from any lyric she's written about their relationship. You're Losing Me wasn't a breakup song. It was a "we are heading for a breakup unless you pull yourself out of your depression because I can't stay with you in your sadness anymore" song 😭
They mutually ended the relationship and made the final decision when she was on the Florida stop on the Eras tour.

It's basically when you get to a certain age, your friends either have babies or they're partying and they smell like weed. So you're in between two stages of life
Could not cut out those songs, at all. You do have to understand the concept of this album and look at the lyrics to get it, but those songs are integral to the album, and beautifully written. Loml is one of her best songs. I like the change of pace with the next song( it’s needed), but the sad ones are needed too.

I was surprised to know how many songs here were influenced by Matty, I was expecting more about Joe. But after hearing that even tho matty and Taylor officially dated for 2 weeks (a Fortnight) they were on and off for years.
This album is definitely a grower, it took me time to fully digest the songs and the meanings behind them.
After her breakup with Joe Alwyn after 7 years she dated Matty Healy for a short time. It ended after a few weeks of her concert start. Matty is lead for the band 1975. Most songs are about him. I think she had already gotten over joe. So long London is about Joe
Na, Joe just didn't destroy her with horrific behaviour. Their relationship ending was just heartbreaking.
Matty caused her to emotionally cheat. He hooked her when she was heartbroken and vulnerable. He love bombed her and promised her marriage and babies in the first few weeks of getting together again in 2023. Slept with her, lied to her about being sober (he was not), cheated on her and then ghosted her.
Ratty Matty is fking horrific. And that's not even starting on what a rcist piece of 💩 he is.
London is Joe Alwyn a british guy she dated for 6 years who promised her a proposal and children and a life together and the relationship just fizzled out. She has a ton of songs about him mostly in lover and reputation albumsl. Matt Healy the front man of the 1975 band she dated in the summer of last year a very short relationship has some songs in this album (the smallest man who ever lived) is the biggest one. Travis has 2 songs in this album. I don't like to pick a part who each song is about in this album I am just letting you know her past/present relationships to give you an idea. I am more focused on her mental health when it comes to this album.
Joe never promised Taylor a proposal or babies. They were too young when they started.
Ratty Matty love bombed her and HE promised her marriage and babies in the first month of being together.
That's why even lmol is about Matty 🤷
Also, it didn't "just fizzle out" with Joe. He was depressed, she was emotionally cheating. It ended because neither of them could get their shyt together to make it work.
i didnt love it at first, i kind of shared similar initial thoughts to many people where things sounded almost too cohesive in a sense regarding production, but after a few more listens, I find that I really like the majority of all 31 tracks.
I think I’d say I even like it more than Midnights, mainly because I like how much more of an open, honest and vulnerable of an album it is. Kind of like she’s just putting it all out there for anyone that’s been wanting to figure out whatever she’s been feeling in her life, and cutting out a lot of the need for interpretation
It’s definitely a grower. The thing is most people listen to music once and they based their first impression whether they like it or not. Also, it is difficult to let people try listening to the same music more than once especially if the artist and the genre is not their cup of tea.
You have to take in context with this album this was wrote in a period of two years .some things have changed.
I like the way Taylor breaks the fourth wall on this album, like “no im not”, “who uses the typewriters anyway”

She just basically purged everything in her mind and heart that she’s been feeling and holding in for the last decade or so… she was quoted as saying something about this album closing the door on those past relationships that ended, she accepted that she had some responsibility in the breakups but that it’s in the past and she’s done. Also told the fans to leave these people that she’s singing about alone.
I think out of the double album,31 Tracks Backwards is 13 her favorite #. The Anthology is my favorite one of the 2 I love the Anthology, I think it's the best album is her best so far.

TTPD is a moreb a grower album, more you listen it , more you like it, it take me a few more listen to fully enjoyed the album and I think that its because on this album she goes like verry deep on what she wants tells to the world .For me the first part of the album have most similitudes to Midnights and The Anthology more to Folklore but it’s a good combo .I love his sad songs like loml cause they are the best sad songs ever and are really well writings ,and makes me alyways cry .As you can see most of the songs talks about relationship that she had .One for a relashion ship of 6 years almost 7 , that guy is born on London ( So long , London talks about him and the after break up of their realationship ) , and one guy is a member of a group of 1975 group and the main singer . For doing simple this 2 relationships was pretty close on the time like she ending the story with the first guy to go for the second guy and break-up like very not long after being with him . Some song are talking too about his public life ( his fans , the music industry , the criticism, all the drama she came through(: But Daddy I Love Him,Who's afraid of little old me , Clara Blow and some somgs on the second part of the album I'm not going to spoil this ) ..For me TTPD is on my Top 1 and then Folklore with Evermore ( yes I put them together ) for the Top 2 and Réputation for my Top3 and Midnights for my Top 4 and 1989 for my top 5.

There’s nothing wrong with the lyrics or production choices on this album. It’s the album she wanted to present, and she probably had specific reasons for including lyrics that some criticize. Oh well. My thought is that many reviews were canned or based in their own negativity that has nothing to do with the album. You can’t review such an expansive work of art within a day or two of its release. If anyone has a problem they should write produce and perform their own album and see how it sells. For me it’s my favorite of her albums because it’s the first I identify with. It’s adult. It’s raw. It’s painful. It’s beautiful.
Loml definitely doesn’t sound like anything else. If anyone can say what it sounds like, I’d love to know. For me it’s the gut punch of the first half of the album.
People who complain about the "childish" lyrics in So High School are completely missing the point! It's a high school child like feeling so of course the lyrics match

In The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived when Taylor say "you tried to buy pills from a friend of friends of mine." She's talking about Matty Healy who is a recovering herion addict also when she says" You kicked out the stage lights but your still performing" She's referring to Matty's history of breaking equipment while on stage. In Loml when she says " You cinephile in black and white." She's referring to Joe Alwyn who is an actor from London and she dated him from 2017 - 2023. When she says " I'll sue you if you step on my lawn. She could be referring to one of two things if not both. She sued a DJ at a party for $1 because he assaulted her but I'm pretty sure she also sued Olivia Rodrigo because how similar her songs sound to taylor. Hopefully that fills in some blanks
In "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me," she literally says it's the circus life that made her this way and then she's getting backlash for anything she does. She is what she is because "we" trained her.

To each their own but I just can't get into her music. I get she's good with lyrics but the music is just kinda boring to me and I don't particularly care for her voice. I give her a shot whenever she drops a new album but it just doesn't hit for me.

For those you connect with her, really connects in deeper level. Just like me, I can't stand listening to a very famous singer whose voice is really great, I know. She belts all the time but I found it so annoying to listen. Her songs are catchy but no substance for me, but ofc it's my taste so that's fine.
