If you didn't notice, at 13:53, the bass, Geoff, does a two octave scoop, and actually goes to a high harmony above the tenors. Geoff's 5 octave range is something of legend in the a cappella community.
I see that you have a Halo poster behind you. If you like, Voiceplay did a "Halo Theme" cover, the best I've heard. The bass reached his lowest note in that one.... To best hear a cappella groups, be sure that you wear headphones.
I was going to say, do yourself a favor and listen with headphones to get that full depth of sound. If you thought this was incredible, listen to it again with headphones! Enjoy the VP rabbit hole. You're in for a treat. These guys are are very talented and very entertaining!
Love the reaction - and it's an actual reaction! I love it when folks pause and talk about what they like or don't like. It makes me enjoy the music even more. VoicePlay is amazing and unique and wonderful. Welcome to the rabbithole, lol.
Headphones are crucial if you want to hear Geoff. Layne, the beatbox, can do all of the instrument imitations, but he takes it much, much further and also creates sounds that just are RIGHT for the moment. Voiceplay is one of my all-time favorite bands, love the creativity & musicality. Delighted that you reacted, thanks!
Delighted to see you reacting to Voiceplay. I found them quite by accident last year and they quickly became my favourite group. With brilliant arrangements by Geoff or Layne & beautiful harmonies, they really are second to none when covering Disney/show tunes. They pay so much attention to detail with sets, costumes and makeup! I also echo others comments, headphones are a must when listening to A Cappella.
For a proud battle cry, you must listen to my mother told me... The Halo theme is brilliant. They also do fun Disney medleys as well as a great Queen medley... Too many to mention. Subscribing in anticipation. 😊
To get the full & best affect it is a must to use headphones when listening to Voice Play. There is nothing like that experience. Voice Plays version of Queen In 5 Minutes is an absolute must. You will be in another theatrical joy ride. They are absolutely phenomenal.
Yes he can sound a bit like a didgeridoo at times. Catch it in My Mother Told Me. :) Beatbox, sometimes known as vocal percussion and yes he's good. Some say the guy in Home Free is better at drum sounds, but Layne is good too. And yes it needs to be seen in its entirety to get the way it builds in intensity as it goes along.
Oh man, this was great! You picked a real showstopper for your introduction to VP. For what it's worth, I personally like it better when reactors pause. I've seen the original video many, many times and when I watch a reactor, I watch _for_ their reaction and part of the fun is watching people get so hyped they just _have_ to stop and exclaim in the heat of the moment. Not dissing people who prefer it the other way around, just my opinion.
I’m a new subscriber, and I loved your reaction to VoicePlay. They are really amazing. Another amazing a cappella group you might enjoy is Home Free. You should check out their original song Land of the Free. Their beatboxer is next level, and their harmonies are to die for.
In my opinion, I wouldn’t worry about your pausing often as long as you had something to contribute which you did. If someone wants fewer pauses they can go to the original. But this is supposed to be a reaction, not an analysis. And your reaction was to keep stopping going wow what just happened. And that’s an honest reaction and I personally appreciate it. For fun you might want to check out Qofy’s reaction to this piece. He was so blown away he got up and walked away for a moment forgetting he was still in his boxers! Jose (middle back) is currently in Hamilton and also a member of Rockapella. So he doesn’t just sing but performs professionally on stage. (Fun fact, he and Cesar (back left) appeared together in Les Miserables in school.) He also appeared in the Norse Saga My Mother Told Me. Geoff has some sustained low notes ( maybe E1 ) that sounds like the Gjallershorn and Eli rocks out channeling his inner Berserker. For a totally different vibe check out Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. It starts out with N Sync, segues into the Jackson 5, the Beatles, through the 90s Boy bands and finishes up with BTS. A lot of fun. Can’t Help Falling in Love With You and Bridge Over Troubled Water are both gorgeous. They are an immensely talented group, and between the beat boxer and the bass singer they do about 95% of the arrangements themselves. Whoever does the arrangement also generally does the video editing. Eli (pronounced Ellie, shirt for Eliezer) in the back on the right does the lighting and their tech work. He recently did an arrangement for their cover of Eleanor Rigby. Geoff also started his own channel when they were forced into studio work because of Covid. If you liked his low tones in this one you really should check out his cover of mMisty Mountains. It’s the dwarves song from the movie the Hobbit. You mentioned the beat boxer and one thing I really like about Layne is that he doesn’t limit himself just to a drum kit, he does bubble sounds and zipper sounds in all sorts of interesting things that really add to the texture of the song.
VP is absolutely the best out there. Their theatrics make it just that much more powerful. Geoff Castellucci, the bass has a 5 octave range and is just as good as a low tenor. He does solo work and Blackbird will give you all five octaves and Shenandoah will showcase his bari/tenor. Layne, the beatboxer, is really creative. If you want to hear him in his element listen to either The Little Mermaid medley or the Moana medley. Geoff and Layne together go nuts at the end of Friends On the Other Side--you'll think it's instrumental. Eli (Ellie) the bald guy, has that rock voice and is amazing in Carry On My Wayward Son. Cesar, smokey eye, is new to the group and has a soft sweet voice that really comes out in Wicked. Jose is a frequent guest star and has done quite a few with them--My Mother Told Me is a good one. Just pick anything of theirs that appeals to you and you won't be disappointed. Word of advice: really good headphones because you'll miss half of the incredible harmonies without them. Halo, Oogie Boogie, and True Colors will give you a good cross section of what they can do.
Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole #TheatreKidsOfACappella. I think Geoff ( Jeff ) the bass did a fantastic job with his arrangement of this song and Eli ( Ellie ) did an awesome job with the lighting. Geoff has his own channel that he does Low Bass covers. Layne is the beatboxer. In My Mother Told Me they are Vikings.
Welcome to the rabbit hole! Bass is Geoff as others said. He has his own channel, I bet you would love his Misty Mountains Cold. The Beatboxer, or vocal percussionist, is Layne, who I think did the arrangement for this one? He and Geoff do all the arrangements. Back row left to right is: Cesar De La Rosa, the newest permanent member of the group on tenor 1. Jose Rosario Jr. Featured guest, he was also in My Mother Told Me and is a member of Rockapella. Eli (pronounced Ellie) tenor 2, he's got the great rock belts.
Layne is the guy on bottom left (beatbox), Geoff (Jeff) is the bass, and in back are Cesar (blind eye), Jose (he performs in Hamilton), and Eli (Ellee). Geoff and Layne do the arrangements for the group, and they do almost all production themselves. They are based in Florida and some have Disney backgrounds. The best description I've seen is that they are the theater kids of a Capella, with Pentatonix as the student council, and Home Free out in the parking lot having a tailgate. Geoff, Avi Kaplan and Tim Foust are friends, and help each other get to those low notes. Geoff did the arrangement for Home Free and the Oak Ridge Boys 'Elvira'. Just a suggestion - get good headphones. You really miss a lot in their songs without them, and definitely miss the full effect of Geoff's drops.
This is amazing! These guys are so talented. The costumes and makeup are fantastic. I love your reaction and u would love to see you do more of these types of reviews. Definitely gave me a new group to listen to
You talked a lot about the middle guy’s expressions. But I love the bold guys too. He gets so into the music and into the song. The voice range of each of the guys is so awe striking
Your reactions are awesome. Don't worry about pausing because you always go back a few seconds which is great. Your commentaries give us another view of something we may have missed.
Geoff Castallucci is the bass voice marvel here. To hear him go subterranean check out a couple of solo (well, somewhat) videos that came out within the last 2 months, Big Bad John and Ain't No Sunshine. Be ready to be shook. As to a didgeridoo check out Home Free's Drum Solo. Start with the original (2015 or 16) where Adam has the red shirt on. The others (2021 & 2022) show how much he's advanced his skills.
This group has undergone a lot of lineup changes so the guy I'm speaking of has already left the group before this video was made. But if you watch their wonderful video for Daddy Sang Bass Earl Elkins, the big guy who looks like he should be the one singing bass has a very high voice. It's hilarious at one point when he goes falsetto and Geoff gives him a look. I think you'd like their videos Queen in 5 Minutes and Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. The groups former member Scott Porter (actor in Friday Night Lights) joins them for the HALO Theme and they sound fantastic!!. Be sure to listen to Scott's heartfelt message for a lost friend after the song is over. He's the one who hand over the sandwich in Boy Bands. Also check out their amazing video for Just Sing. Make sure the CC is turned on for that one.
I loved the reaction! Will be subscribing after I type this😁. Just wanted to say that if you react to more VoicePlay you will attract a lot of viewers. The VP rabbit hole is deep and entertaining. You also might like to check out Geoff's solo channel where he magically clones himself then proceeds to harmonize with them!🤯
You probably did yourself a favor by pausing on this one. Some other very good reactors didn’t pause enough, and as the music builds, then couldn’t find a place to pause. So they ended with a stunned look and didn’t know where to start saying anything. (Which is also a reaction, but not what they had in mind.). Please keep in mind that they pretty much do it all themselves. Except for makeup, cameraman and Ed Boyer doing their final music post production (which are always listed in the credits) they do it all themselves. These days they most often shoot at Pattycake Productions, the studio owned by Layne and their former baritone, Tony Wakim. You might also want to check out something from Pattycake. Layne and Tony write and produce their original songs, and - quite frankly - do Disney as well as Disney. A good stand alone video is the second episode of season one of Villains Lair - Tough Love. Another favorite of mine is Will.Of.Oz (where Black Eyed Peas music tells the Wizard of Oz story. )
Where are your earbuds? You must go back and listen with earphones!!! Also, when you pause, please back up a few seconds because you can miss some great moments.
Please do a reaction video of Voice Plays Queen In 5 Minutes. You will be blown away. Please do a reaction video of Voice Plays Halo theme song from the video game Halo. Voice Plays version is by far the best ever. Be sure to wait for the tribute at the end.
I second the recommendation to also check out Home Free. VP and HF are my top 2 acapella groups. I recommend starting with Man Of Constant Sorrow by Home Free. Highly recommend Voiceplay doing Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas cover. It's amazing.
You deprive yourself from having a more consistent picture of the whole song interpretation by fragmenting it so, so often. It's your channel, you do as you feel, but this is my opinion. Cheers! ;)
I appreciate it, I tried to let it go a little longer toward the end. I honestly didn't know what to expect going and I think hearing them just sort of evoked a big reaction. I definitely felt like I had a lot to say lol
@@1MannzOpinion I truly can understand you (I myself pause the song making observations in my mind)! Just that, as I saw almost every reaction on UA-cam regarding this Voiceplay song, I compared your with those of the professionals (voice coaches, teachers, singers and so on) and of the amateurs. The professionals have 3-4 stops well determined of the ”pauses” during the song, and the amateurs either have a few scarce comments with a lower microphone volume over the song playing, or have a few comments at the end, or randomly, but the latest ones are the less appreciated.
