It was in the 1930’s when Democrat Roosevelt ran on a platform of expanding federal government oversight and expanding government programs to rebuild the country. The Global Slavery Index (2018) estimated that roughly 40.3 million individuals are currently caught in modern slavery, with 71% of those being female, and 1 in 4 being children. I knew there were indentured Irish servants in colonial America, but I never knew that Irish children captured and sent to America for multi-generational slavery, as well! I learned that some free blacks and Native Americans also utilized slaves in the South. But I was most stunned to learn (and I checked it) that nearly 70% of the 5.5 free southerners before the civil war, had no slaves at all, and of course, the 18.5 million people in the north did not have any slaves bc all the states in the North were free States. So fewer than seven percent of free Americans before the civil war ever owned or lived in a household with slaves. I always thought it was a *LOT* higher. Leave n something new every day!

Also, remember that black history in the west especially in America has been altered to fit the White man's narrative. I am African on both sides and growing up, I had both my grandmother and great-grandmother alive to enlighten me on how Slavery REALLY started and our history and what actually went down. Pre-colonization, Africa was rich in natural resources and it still is. So, take 2 seconds to ask why we would sell our people when we had all the riches the colonizers yearned for! While you're at it, ask yourself why post-slavery, they did not want us returning to Africa and instead scattered us in the present-day Caribbeans. The white people want us divided because our capabilities when united, scare them. We should wake up and come together as it is what our ancestors would've wanted and put this diaspora/African and African-American/Carribbean African war aside. I have always wanted to make friends with more black people in America but damn that war! If anyone would like to know more about our TRUE history, email me and we'll chat...

Third the average life expectancy for a European during those times was around a year in Africa due to the various foreign illnesses until of course medicine was developed. Fourth post slavery your people weren't scattered they simply stayed where they were freed. Historians say every nation took part in the horrors of slavery, it wasn't just one race enslaving... every race was involved.
There is evidence of slavery in Africa which goes back to ancient times, so bigger tribes and villages would enslave smaller ones through battles, and the winners enslave the losing tribe and they would keep them as slaves or then sell them, this was going on all over the ancient world.
It was when the Islamic invaders came to Africa in the 7th century is when the African slave trade really took off... when the Arabs arrived they easily captured people as slaves and bought slaves from African Kings to take back to the middle east, they did this in Europe too, taking white slaves back to the middle east until the European Kingdoms started to form a more equipped military which made it more difficult for the Arabs, so they went to Africa.
This Arab slave trade was going on for 7 centuries before the Europeans had ever arrived in Africa to explore the continent and 10 centuries before the first West African slaves were sent across the Atlantic, so the white Europeans were very late to the African slave trade and yet the were the first nations to abolish it, with many giving up their lives to have it abolished.
When the British Empire ordered the African Kings to stop the slave trade they weren't happy they were making up to 250,000 pounds a year selling slaves that is millions in today's money, one such African King....King Gezo responded in a letter saying..
" I will do anything the British ask me to do, apart from giving up the slave trade, as it is the founding principle of my people the source of our glory and our wealth, the mother lulls the baby to sleep with notes of triumph when our enemies are reduced to slavery"... enemies here, being fellow Africans.
So unfortunately every nation took part in slavery but not every nation participated to end slavery and this is never acknowledged.
It was the Western countries that stopped and abolished slavery and the really sad thing is slavery still exists in some places in the world and none of those countries are white countries or in Europe.

I am a Black doctor and from Alabama. I have lived all over the world and I have always been just a regular citizen but treated extremely good in Alabama. The worse I have ever seen and the first time I have seen racism was in Tucson, Arizona. The sad thing about it is Hispanic Americans were the worse. You have to remind yourself constantly that you would not look good in prison clothes around Tucson.

Don't you know that "the Holy Bible" *approves of and justifies slavery* in many places? That's how people back then excused it! Look it up: Leviticus 25:44-46, Exodus 21:1-36, Exodus 21:7-11, Exodus 21:20-21, Deuteronomy 28:68, Titus 2:9-10, Ezra 9:9, Colossians 3:22, Revelation 13:16, Ephesians 6:6-8, Philemon 1:15-16.
The "holy Scriptures" even specify that it's fine to whip your slaves, just as long as you don't beat them to death. Now isn't THAT a comfort? People who think the Bible is the "revealed word of God" need to think again.

Hi Smiling Sharie, it’s nice meeting you here.. I’m Richard by name, it would be nice getting to know you better, if that’s ok with you? My mom once said good friends are never too much to have. if you don’t mind, can we be friends??
Lovely smile you got there on your profile picture, it can brighten up the most darkest atmosphere of any man’s world😉.
