I've played this song with every band I've been in since they released it many, many years ago. I'm 68 and still playing it in my blues band today. In fact we may record a cover soon, but if it isn't as good as this version, I'll never release it. The new generation needs to hear this song.

Same story with me, I'm 60 and played with some guys that were 40 a few weeks back and they had only heard of Mott the Hoople, and didn't have a clue about their songs

BaronTurco Would you PLEASE do this song and send me a video( I mean digital) copy of it? You have great taste. LOVED Mott and Ian Hunter with Mick Ronson. And some of Bad
Company after I figured out some of Mott and Free was in there lol.

And Baron, don't do Mott's raunchy version, done live sometimes, with C & H Queen lyrics, lol. And I thought Louie Louie was bad...

Baron my friend I played this in my first ever band and I'm now 66, a spring chicken hey, it's fucking pulsating. i just about had the ability to get by as a new drummer. What great stuff to cut your teeth on. Hope you're still playing I have a nice blues band. Peace man Joe.

Yes indeed, not much to add to other previous comments, other than that Mott, in the era, was one of the finest outfits that certainly ranked among the best, especially live. An anthem here, methinks, and glad to have been around, and seen them live, in the States, way 'back in the day', Cleveland, '74-'ish', I believe. All full of 'piss and vinegar', as it were, both them and me... Great memories...

That riff is probably played on a Les Paul Junior as both Ian & Mick used to search out pawn shops for those wonderful guitars.

I cannot believe this track was recorded in 1969. I have always thought it sounds years ahead of it's time. I think it sounds more modern than Zep,The Stones, and any band around in 1969. Maybe it's Guy Stevens' production. To me it sounds like a glam 1973 recording. Superb!

Yeah, I bet Keef thought he wrote this riff in his sleep :) Mott's song preceeded Bitch by a couple of years, but it's just a riff in the same key. The Stones built a completely different song on it. They're both good tunes even though Bitch was a bit overplayed and R&R Queen was quite under appreciated.

This is like close second tier to Freebird, Stairway to Heaven, Green Grass and High Tides, Highway Song, and Do You Feel Like We Do? I'd rank it with That's All You Need, and Twilight Zone. It was pretty big on FM radio when it came out, but never ever gets any airplay today. Ah, the things Bikers have playing in their heads as they ride along on open country roads!
