I've played this song with every band I've been in since they released it many, many years ago. I'm 68 and still playing it in my blues band today. In fact we may record a cover soon, but if it isn't as good as this version, I'll never release it. The new generation needs to hear this song.
Same story with me, I'm 60 and played with some guys that were 40 a few weeks back and they had only heard of Mott the Hoople, and didn't have a clue about their songs
BaronTurco Would you PLEASE do this song and send me a video( I mean digital) copy of it? You have great taste. LOVED Mott and Ian Hunter with Mick Ronson. And some of Bad
Company after I figured out some of Mott and Free was in there lol.
And Baron, don't do Mott's raunchy version, done live sometimes, with C & H Queen lyrics, lol. And I thought Louie Louie was bad...
Baron my friend I played this in my first ever band and I'm now 66, a spring chicken hey, it's fucking pulsating. i just about had the ability to get by as a new drummer. What great stuff to cut your teeth on. Hope you're still playing I have a nice blues band. Peace man Joe.
This is funny I'm sixty four been a few bands and now in a blues band also but haven't listened to Mott but love what mick Robson did with Bowie
Just Ian Hunter and Mick Ralphs (Bad Company) when they were young and wild ...cheers great stuff
Mott's best song in my opinion.
We used to play Walking With a Mountain and ended with the chorus of this song.
Kids, you just had to be there! 1969
rock and roll, the way it should be, from the gut, reckless, loud, superb song, brilliant.
Yes indeed, not much to add to other previous comments, other than that Mott, in the era, was one of the finest outfits that certainly ranked among the best, especially live. An anthem here, methinks, and glad to have been around, and seen them live, in the States, way 'back in the day', Cleveland, '74-'ish', I believe. All full of 'piss and vinegar', as it were, both them and me... Great memories...
Mott The Hoople brought me here
Love the tone of the guitars.
@Kevin James Me too Kevin! Those drums and bass really kick, don't they! It's nice to see I'm not the only one to notice.
Yeah they really grind out the sound.
That riff is probably played on a Les Paul Junior as both Ian & Mick used to search out pawn shops for those wonderful guitars.
One of my favourite tracks by anyone ever!!!
Angie is my Rock'n Roll Queen
Those were the days .... music is still timeless.... love this live cut....thanks so much for posting
Every time I hear this, it reminds me of the 3 some of the "Rock-n-Roll Queen" episode of HBO's Vinyl. A killer show by the way! and a killer song!
For many, their exposure to Mott begins with 'Memphis', and they've never heard this. R'nR Queen is one of the best rock songs yet recorded
Tis my all time favorite favorite R&R band
Yes indeed, "tis" one of ours as well... Great memories, and maybe should have gotten much more respect and love... ah well...
Also one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard and I'm a huge Page fan!
You have to love 70's rock.
ebf1957 1969
It came out I think 68 or 69 and I found it on an ISLAND-Sampler together with Spooky tooth..I was 15. Still great music! Thank you for posting and greatings from Köln
Vinyl series made me discover this masterpiece. Thanks. Pure rock and roll.
Just catching up on the series - some great music in this episode. Fleetwood Mac version 1; Traffic & this👊
This was Mott's hard rock side. Twin pillars of song writing Mick and Ian. Buffin & Pete knock down the house.
I cannot believe this track was recorded in 1969. I have always thought it sounds years ahead of it's time. I think it sounds more modern than Zep,The Stones, and any band around in 1969. Maybe it's Guy Stevens' production. To me it sounds like a glam 1973 recording. Superb!
It sounds TOTALLY glam
...
Sorry, but the Stones had already started to sound as “classic rock” as an artist could by 1965.
it sounds 4 years ahead of its time lol
I thought about 1975 I was shocked. I'm 58
Greetings from Cleveland, OH -- and WMMS in its heyday. What once was....
Kid LEO on Ch 21 on XMSirius is one of the reasons I still use my Satellite Radio, he only does Wed-Fri afternoons now. I'm 72 and still love the old rock, and all the new too.
@@Dukerdr 👍🎵🎶🎸
Great song from the album with the same title.
The opening bars sound like "Live With Me" by the Stones.
Yeah a little, but Mott's first album was released a few weeks before Let it Bleed.
@@MattJaissleFilms live with me was recorded in may 1969, and debuted live not too long after, before Mott’s album
Thanks you Vinyl to make me discover this song
I challenge anyone who’s never heard this song to deny this is not the greatest song they’ve never heard song.
Most photos shown here are from much later after Mick Ralph left the band, this is an early tune of theirs, recorded before they met David Bowie.
Thanks for providing the song my first listen I'm gonna listen to rock n roll queen by the subways next.
Rolling Stones' s Bitch riff but 2 years earlier!
Saw them a few times supporting Free - aren't you jealous ? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
Lindos
Yeah, I bet Keef thought he wrote this riff in his sleep :) Mott's song preceeded Bitch by a couple of years, but it's just a riff in the same key. The Stones built a completely different song on it. They're both good tunes even though Bitch was a bit overplayed and R&R Queen was quite under appreciated.
Also sounds like It's Only Rock And Roll.
Temptations " Get Ready" 1966 and later Rare Earth
Bitch >>>>>> all
Chris Carter's British Invasion brought me here.
Just bought original vinyl today. Album jacket has wear but LP is pristine
Ariel Bender best Rock and Roll name ever❤
Ariel (Luther) joined MTH about 4 years after this.
Not as good, ie British, as his real name: Luther Grosvenor.
Mott the Hoople
For some reason this made me think of the sound track from the movie "Tommy"
Mots BAD ASS!!!!
Which wonderful time(period) for the music !
so different from their glam rock persona
This song is a total mess but fucking great..That's rock & roll for ya!
nice job !
Change for a Dollar Perhaps my Queen,King Me, Must
God bless MTH and Mick Ralphs…oh that muscular guitar! The jam at the end is pure magic. Sex Pistols were highly influenced by this one.
This is like close second tier to Freebird, Stairway to Heaven, Green Grass and High Tides, Highway Song, and Do You Feel Like We Do? I'd rank it with That's All You Need, and Twilight Zone. It was pretty big on FM radio when it came out, but never ever gets any airplay today. Ah, the things Bikers have playing in their heads as they ride along on open country roads!

head banging now
The Rolling Stones borrowed the guitar riff for "Bitch".

Everything about this song rocks except for lead guitar. Pretty weak.
+Daniel Waters It was 1969 & the lead player (Mick Ralphs, later of Bad Co. fame) did write the song.
Mick Ralphs of Mott the Hoople and Bad Co. is a great guitarist but opinions are what they are, right?
he is rich.....you're not
