Anthony, are you a parent? my guess is no... being able to give advice even good advice doesn't make a good parent. the one thing I have learned about being a parent that I wasn't prepared for, which I think no one is, is patience. children test your patience in every aspect, and they strain the bond you have with the other parent. robert edmond did you not have any younger siblings? Because it’s very easy to find out that children test your patience:) But you do have a good point about advice, children don’t care about your advice until at least tenish
You started this series when I got into my first relationship and hearing what you have to say really helped me understand contraception and how to be open about periods and now we watch your videos together 😊 I really enjoy this series 💕
Two words Hannah, - completely honest. Thats what makes this series so worthy of note. In my opinion they should be compulsory viewing for all ten and eleven year olds, both girls and boys to prepare them for the physical and emotional changes to come, and to encourage them to speak openly to their peers and elders.
Have you noticed any differences in the people you're attracted to/have sexual chemistry with? I've heard that the pill can often change that for people and I've always found it really fascinating!
Karen Mae I found that my libido shot up when I stopped my contraceptive patch, really think the contraception had made a huge difference! My friend did a dissertation on this and apparently it is a thing! x
Karen Mae yes. I recently tried contraception just for a month because I couldn't take it. It was mini pill. My libido turned to zero, I didn't really like how my boyfriend smelled, didn't want to be touched, extremely emotional and depressed about nothing, migraines, weight gain. All the possible side effects. Now I'm back to normal and I just adore his body, the way he smells, everything. I have experienced it once before too. It really is a thing!
Karen Mae I found myself to get infatuated or like obsessed with my boyfriend a lot more than when I wasn't on the pill. My brain now emphasises every emotion I have its exhausting 😂
I love that you didn't go into the numbers when discussing weight! I agree it's super unhealthy to have the kind of mindset where the numbers matter rather than how you feel in your body and how healthy you are ❤
it's so nice to know I'm not the only one going through this! I came off my pill about 8 months ago and i've had pretty much the same things happen. weight gain, literally crying at everything, broodiness and the worst cramps ever! So loving this series!
I honestly think that your hormone diaries is one of the best series I watch on UA-cam, I always stay up to date and it is so reassuring that things like hormones and emotions are normal and everyone has them and everyone reacts to them differently. Thank you Hannah for being so inspirational x
I just want to say thank you for the way you handled the subject of weight. I really appreciate the fact that you left numbers out of it and that you put emphasis on health, instead of focusing on triggering/harmful things
I've never clicked on a video as quick as I have for this one! This series is probably my favourite series on UA-cam! I've had a history with the pill and coming off it and going back on it and back off it again (for hormone reasons... not pregnancy/contraceptive stuff), so to hear someone talk about it as open as you are is such an inspiration! Thank you Hannah xo
Thank you so much for this video (and the rest of the series)! As someone pretty young just starting the pill, it's been really reassuring for me to hear someone talking so openly about their experience. Please keep making them!
I've been on the pill for nearly two years to help manage my endometriosis, and I still get super broody! This series is fantastic. Whilst I won't be able to come off of hormonal contraception in the foreseeable future, it's great to see you map this all out 💕
your channel has been a massive eye opener for me since i came across it, now i'm slightly less introverted as i used to be, still working on it tho thank you :)
Alex Thompson theres nothing wrong with being an introvert...as that just means you get your energy from being on your own...but if you mean being more social/less reserved then great for you 😉 You can be a social introvert or a socially anxious extrovert!
Hannah, I love watching your videos! You're always so informative but like relatable at the same time. I've actually just got on the pill about 6 months ago now but I love this series. Thanks for making awesome vids and I wish you the most success--I was surprised you didn't already have a mill subs haha.
When I turned 18, like almost exactly, I started having that need to have kids. I always wanted to be a mom, but I always planned on adopting because the whole 9 months + labor thing was a big ol' nope for me. But for two years now everytime I see a baby my mind and heart scream that I need to have one of those asap. It's so strange.
Your videos are actually so amazing. I wish I'd discovered them when I was 13 (I'm now 18) but I know that if I ever have a daughter I want to show her your videos when she's old enough. It's so nice to normalise a woman's natural bodily 'mechanics' the changes that happen make you think you're dying when you're like 12 and no one has really spoke to you about anything. And with the broody thing I'm like you, broody since I was so young I loved to be around babies. Still haven't gotten out of that phase so in September I'm becoming a Nanny! (Looking after other people's babies so I don't have to have my own just yet) ;)
The down mood is something I definitely do not miss since going on the pill. With my irregular cycle I wouldn't have a clue when it was meant to start but the night before it would start I would go into full meltdown mode and instantly think it was my depression taking over and I would resign myself to have a few miserable months ahead and then I would wake up and feel fine once it started. Hormones are so odd when you think about how much they rule your life.
This is such a good series, even for people who are knowledgeable about these types a thing, it is so nice to be able to compare experiences with others! Keep it up Hannah! :) its so helpful
Ive been off my period for around 6 months too, actually more specifically, I came off about 2 weeks after your first hormone diaries because your video made it certain for me that thats what I needed to do!! I feel your boob pain, I feel so bruised, and period pain, I cant say im happy to endure that now no no no.
This serie is so interesting ! I've never been on the pill, and with everything we learn about it now I really don't want to (for now). So it's really interesting to hear your thoughts on coming off it !!
I am so glad you made this video, I came off the pill in December and I'm having the exact same symptoms as you, it's great to know that I'm not the only one going through all these changes and that they are pretty common, love this series Hannah 👍🏻
I can't believe it's already been six months! I've been loving this series. My sister had a lot of the same period issues you're experiencing (boobs hurting and a really long, irregular cycle). She read this book called The Period Repair Manual by Lara Briden, which I've read as well, it's all about natural ways to help fix different menstrual problems. I know one thing she started doing after reading it was take a Vitex supplement and her period has already started becoming more and more regular, so you might want to check that out.
I love this series of yours! I can't have periods and will never get to experience this right of womanly passage, but it's been wonderful watching you on your journey 😊. Thanks for being so open about everything!
This was so helpful and informative! I've been off the pill for almost 4 months now and can actually relate to pretty much all of your symptoms!! It's really interesting to see just how much hormones effect your body - and in so many ways. Thank you for making these :)
I have been having the same feelings about relationships/babies recently too and I came off the pill at the same time as you. That's so interesting that we're both experiencing this!
Romance.... is just chemical stimulation.... What is happiness. What is love. Is there purpose? Is the compulsion to breed why people overlook negative relationships. Why did this video spark an existential crisis. Fascinating.
Logan Everything in our experience has a neurochemical basis because that drives perception. Everything is chemical. That doesn't mean it isn't real or it doesn't matter.. I'm not sure, I don't have Hannah's child-desire. I like kids, but the world is shitty, and I've seen friends lose their kids, and I don't want to overpopulate the globe, and I don't want to be a slave, and I don't need a quarter million of expenses....
I'm in the same situation as you! I found your videos right after I came off of birth control for the first time in about 6 years. My cycle has never been regular and I feel like hearing your experience is very very helpful! And I'm feeling the baby fever too... which I didn't really like kids before I came off BC. Thanks for doing these videos!
Hormone Diaries are my favorite of all your videos! I too find myself desiring having a baby more at certain times in my cycle. I went off birth control for a few months recently and that need hit me like a freaking train- way more than usual!
You know the whole broodiness thing is so interesting, I've gone right off the idea of kids since I came off my contraception, but while I was on it I was obsessed with the idea of being a mum :P
Any updates? I’m 27 going on 3 yrs married. I have never wanted kids growing up and same with hubby. I’m on the Pill and all of a sudden it’s like baby fever is getting to me. My mom got pregnant at 27 and had me at 28. I wonder if there’s a connection.
oh my gosh this is the best. While I'm not going through the transition of coming off the pill I do relate to many of these hormonal struggles our bodies put us through. Thanks for sharing so candidly!
I hit the baby stage from age 21-23 and it usually involved me crying over diaper commercials, having dreams of my babies being stolen from me, and overwhelmingly being drawn to cute babies in the grocery store. I'm now 28, clean and sober, and have little desire to be around children. Hormones are freakin weiiiiirrrd. Edit: I also remember when I was in my 'i want a baby stage' that the sound of one crying would cause me to panic??? like, _oh my god, there's a baby in need! I must find them!_ And now it's just like, _Well that's annoying._ Also: the breast pain can sometimes be linked to coffee/chocolate/caffeine intake. That might just be in my family, but I've had to cut down on those because my breasts would ache to the point of tears. I also found if I ate dark chocolate my mood swings would be insane when I was PMSing.
when you say 28 clean and sober, you mean of hormonal contraception right? nothing more sinister.....? also: if you consume much caffeine/choco, try drinking half a glass of water before it? I'm curious to see if it makes you feel different :)
Hello Hannah! Just found your channel and I love it. This is really interesting because last year I came off the same pill you were on, after years on it. I've noticed some of these effects - deeeefinitely the broodiness, and I'm actually quite intrigued by your feelings about needing a boyfriend and things... I am in a relationship and moved in with my boyfriend a few months after coming off the pill (this was always planned, not just hormone brain) but I definitely did spend a month or so looking at wedding videos on UA-cam in private... I was SO READY for commitment. So there's that. I hadn't even thought about that being a change in my hormones making me think differently about stuff. Anyway, thanks for this series, I've hit the subscribe button :)
I am one of those persons that really wants to have babies before I'm 30 too, but whenever I talk about this with my friends they all react like I'm completely crazy. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who really wants kids early!
6 months ago I remember "young" Hannah talking about how she was scared about having feelings like she wanted a real relationship... It's cool seeing you accept the way you feel about it. Medically speaking, the erratic cycles are common after coming off the pill, the boob pain *sometimes* will lessen over time as you body acclimates to a new normal (without the pill) and usually later on, the cramps *can* get less severe but it does take time... With the gaining weight, could definitely be related to the pill, but that usually doesn't get any *better* over time. If you start gaining weight when you're off the pill it may taper to a number of lbs (or kgs) but that may become your new "normal." Then exercise etc. becomes very important, especially with the boob stuff. And just make sure to take care of your back (with your boob issue)! God speed!
I've come off the pill in November... still no period. At first I naturally freaked, did a few pregnancy tests, but I'm clear. December tho, man what a roller coaster. Cried all the time (I never had such mood swings... COULD BE externally motivated or just me overreacting due to being hormonal... eh?) and I did notice a tiny bit of weight gain. But after the first shock, I recovered pretty fast (at least mentally lol, I managed to pull myself together ;D). But can I just say how HAPPY I am to have someone talk about this in such detail on youtube, it's frankly such a relief to have someone sharing their experience in such a way! My friends are a bit more reserved about these things so I just craaaaave this kind of conversation ♥ Thanks Hannah, I'm so happy to have discovered you
Just discovered your channel and this series and I've learnt so much! I had my copper coil taken out last month because my periods were so painful and lasted for ages and I'm having a little break to monitor any changes! I don't want hormonal contraception either! Thank you for your openness and research in all your videos :) Glad you mentioned the bit about having a healthy mind towards weight as well- so important! 👍🏻
Thanks for continuing to share such honest videos Hannah. I personally couldn't ever do it which is I think why I'm SUPERRR supportive of all the content you create. Can't wait to see you at VidCon EU! :D
Hi Hannah! I love watching your videos and hearing/learning about these things! Well, I'm 25 and have always had super irregular periods, so ever since I was about 15 I've been on and off the pill, but a very low dose of estrogen. It worked fairly well at regulating my period, but then in college I did some traveling and didn't exactly know how I'd be able to stock up on several month's worth of the birth control, so I went off of the pill. It was during this time, in London actually, I was diagnosed with cystic ovarian syndrome, which is really common. I dealt somehow with my crazy periods for like 3 years, and then a year and a half ago I got back on the birth control, but after 8 or so months it wasn't able to regulate it any longer. SO, they increased the dosage of estrogen, BUT then I had lots of mood issues, so I quit the pill cold turkey. After 4 or so months of being on nothing and my period being super irregular and heavy, I did some research and talked to my gynecologist and got an IUD put in about a month ago! The IUD should make my periods lighter and shorter, but I've also experienced cramps for the first time in my life now that I have the IUD (which I didn't really expect) and I've also had really sensitive and painful boobs and nipples in the days leading up to when I got my first period since the IUD. I've never experienced either of those things, so it feels all pretty crazy, but I actually learned from you from a different video that boobs hurting is a sign of an upcoming period! It's embarrassing to me that I never knew that before, but for 10+ years I've never had negative side effects from periods! --other than 2+ week long periods that are heavy basically the whole time. Haha thanks for making me feel normal!
For guys this thing (baby, family, etc) comes at around the age of 28-30 (where I am at now). Suddenly you are transformed and view caring for a family or kids as something you want to do. For us, when we are younger, showing off our drinking skills, other crude stuff is how we want to express ourselves. But when we hit that age, we now want to show off our abilities by taking care of people, be it family, wife, partner, love interest, kids, what have you.It makes us feel manly when women allow us to do stuff for them (feminists take note). So its interesting to see how you transition from being a girl to a woman. I think having these conversations is one great thing about the internet, it has allowed people to talk about things which they otherwise would not. cheers.
Thank you for creating the hormone diaries hannah. I was put on the pill in my mid teens by my doctor as I was in excruciating pain 3 out of 4 weeks. But I have always been told that I have to have periods. Now I'm struggling with depression and anxiety and am unable to work and once again my my periods are coursing a major problem. But thanks to your video's I now have the confidence to talk about changing my meds with my doctor. Thank you! 💓💊💓
I came off my pill not long after you. Watching your videos encouraged me to do it, as I'd been thinking about it for a while. You were my canary down the mine so to speak! I've definitely been a lot more emotional! I can have a bit of a temper on me now, and I've lost how many times I've cried over something stupid, and I totally get what you mean about the broodiness!! Babies always made me squirm and physically recoil in horror before (that sounds awful, but it's true), but now I just want to hold and cuddle every baby I see!! That's about the only changes I've noticed though
The whole feeling down thing is definitely period related for me. It happens. It only happens every so often.. But when it does, I get in a bit of trouble..
I went on the pill around 6 months ago after discovering I have polycystic ovarian syndrome. I've always been very slim, but I gained a few kilos after going on the pill. I rarely weigh myself, but like you I was shocked that I was the heaviest I've ever been. I was weighing myself a lot that week, but have since stopped for my mental health/body confidence and have been trying to focus on making healthier choices instead of a number on a scale.
This video has literally come at the most opportune time! I have just stopped the pill, had my last 'fake' period almost a month ago now, will be interesting to see what happens from now on! I feel like I have not been able to lose weight since starting the pill when I was 16 due to heavy periods, so I have just decided during this single time of my life, I would stop and see if the hormones contributed to my weight. Looking forward to more videos :)
I've been off the pill for almost as long as you, Hannah, and I started piling on the weight in the first few months, so I went to the doctors - they said that due to the rapid hormone changes and my body trying to sort itself out, my weight would be in flux for up to a year, so don't worry! As you said, as long as you feel healthy, it's all good :D
Same with cramps on the first day! I'm pretty sure it happens because the endometrium is starting to break and separate from the wall of the uterus, and then it gets less painful because the main breaking is already done. I'm loving the series by the way! Keep it coming ;)
Another renewable product other than mooncups and period underwear is cotton pads! Much the same as period pants but just a cool alternative. Leaving this here for anyone interested in that sort of stuff
I feel like i'm going through this with you!! :p I came off my injection a bit before you did, but i didn't start getting periods again until a few months ago. Everything you've said (minus the broodiness, but that was just never my thing) i totally relate to!
This video makes me feel SO much better about what I've been thinking. For a while I though I was being crazy but I'm 25 and I'm having literal baby fever. I feel like it's an age thing because like you I never really thought about it seriously until (also like you I knew I wanted kids before 30 but wasn't honestly spending time worrying about it) now and now I'm like kids kids kids!! It also probably doesn't help that my sister is pregnant right now and my aunt is adopting a baby so my life at the moment is literally kids kids kids haha.
Hannah you gave me the little push I needed to come off the pill! I've started making videos similar to track and record my journey and I have to say it's going great so far :) Thank you and i hope your journey continues well! :) XX
This is definitely one of my favorite series you've done just because I feel I can relate a lot.(though I've never been on birth control) I also get many of the same symptoms of a period as well as we have similar body types ( shorter and big chested) which I feel is possibly why we get that achy feeling right before our periods. I am really interested to know what you think of the menstrual cup!
I totally understand what your going through. I went off the pill about a year ago and the broodyness crept up on me in time and it's killing me right now. Its really nice that you can talk about this as it makes you go crazy and its not something you can talk to people about as they don't really understand.
YES!! Yes, yes, yes!! yes to everything about this video. Due to a health condition I came off of birth control after basically being on it my entire menstrual life. It has been challenging not knowing what my body is doing and not having the control over it and my emotions that I once had!! i too am at my heaviest at try not to let it bother me but when my clothes no longer fit it is quite difficult!!
Hannah! I also came off the pill of a similar time to you, & i kid you not I have never related to a video more then this! boobs, being broody & putting on weight i'm with ya girl!! I thought all of these things I am experiencing thought was just me, & I was genuinely expecting all of these things to happen when I initially went on the pill 4 years ago, just wanted to say your not alone & thanks for making me feel so normal!! keep being so ace!
The week before my period I'm a complete emotional mess! I just can't stop crying and feel so down. I did a similar thing to you and watched old videos of me and my ex together, I started uncontrollably crying. Why do we torture ourselves?!
honestly I think she'd be a great mother and she'd be able to give great advice to her kids about everything possible
Anthony Siano Same. Hannah would be a great mother

I relate so much to this, from the gaining weight and not wanting to know how much I weigh, to the broodiness, to the hormones. Thank you for sharing!
I came off the pill after 4 years because for the entire time I was unusually sad/depressed and a few weeks after coming off it I was SO much happier.
I love how honest you are about all that! Keep going!
I am so glad you made this video, I came off the pill in December and I'm having the exact same symptoms as you, it's great to know that I'm not the only one going through all these changes and that they are pretty common, love this series Hannah 👍🏻

have you watched the matrix? read harry potter 7?

logan walsh best comment tbh
romance.. chemical.... MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE LOL DONT KILL ME
Logan Everything in our experience has a neurochemical basis because that drives perception.
I love how honest you are
omg when you talked about how your maternal instinct kinda comes out during your period i can relate SO MUCH
I stopped taking the pill few days ago, so I'm also interested in the changes :). I love this series and I hope you will continue making them! ❤️
Hannah please put "shock horror, I bleed" on a bag or t-shirt!
I'll be 28 in four months, and I have baby fever so badly. My boyfriend isn't ready though, and I have no idea how to deal with these feelings.
Any updates? I’m 27 going on 3 yrs married. I have never wanted kids growing up and same with hubby. I’m on the Pill and all of a sudden it’s like baby fever is getting to me. My mom got pregnant at 27 and had me at 28. I wonder if there’s a connection.
I always enjoy watching these so much, good job ❤
my god im so happy you got this channel hannah
i love this series and i totally appreciate that you are so honest, much love! 💚
Love your honesty, Hannah! Thank you for sharing your story.
I am loving this series! I have recently got an IUD, and it's so interesting to hear your experiences. So thanks 😊
Also, I loved loved my Diva cup when I was menstrating. 10/10 would reccomend!
oh my gosh this is the best.
I must find them!_ And now it's just like, _Well that's annoying._
Also: the breast pain can sometimes be linked to coffee/chocolate/caffeine intake.
I'm curious to see if it makes you feel different :)
wtf.. hahahahhhhahhhah

Tuesday is Hannah day and it makes me happy
I don't have my earbuds now but i can't wait to watch this later!
I am one of those persons that really wants to have babies before I'm 30 too, but whenever I talk about this with my friends they all react like I'm completely crazy. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who really wants kids early!
I've just started taking the pill so I think this series youre doing is very interesting. Thank you for your honesty!
I´m so happy that more and more people realise what they want and become true to themselves. :)
I think having these conversations is one great thing about the internet, it has allowed people to talk about things which they otherwise would not. cheers.
I have Crohn's disease, and it's good to hear someone has a same-ish experience with digestive issues. love your videos!
So glad I found your channel! Feel like you're my spirit animal 🐯 loving your videos!! 🤗
Wow, I'm earlier than my period! XD
I'm so glad you did an update! Really interested in how your hormones are coming along
(that sounded a lot creeper than I intended :/ )
Looking forward to the next one you never disapoint
I just clicked on this video and an email popped through from Amazon saying there was a delivery date for the book aND NOW I'M SO EXCITED AHHHH
This is probably my favorite series you do!!
Being a parent is the best job in human's life. Talking from experience.
Keep it coming ;)
absolutely LOVE your channel and you xx
PLEASE MORE VIDEOS WITH MELANIEEEE MURPHYYYY you two are my ultimate faves
sorry about all your troubles, Hannah. hopefully internet hugs don't hurt. *hugs*
Hannnaaahhh, girl you look stunning!!! Also, great video as always.xxxxxx
Been loving your hormone diaries. I can so relate to wanting babies as well. Loving this series Hannah ❤️
Hannah, I just love you, love you, love you
I thought all of these things I am experiencing thought was just me, & I was genuinely expecting all of these things to happen when I initially went on the pill 4 years ago, just wanted to say your not alone & thanks for making me feel so normal!! keep being so ace!
has it been 6 months already ???? what i feel like the first video was like 1 month ago omg
flore sameeee
The week before my period I'm a complete emotional mess! I just can't stop crying and feel so down. I did a similar thing to you and watched old videos of me and my ex together, I started uncontrollably crying. Why do we torture ourselves?!
Thank you so much for your openness. Keep up the good work!
