Hugh is so effortlessly funny.
Absolutely. Always love his interviews with Stephen and Graham Norton.
right. i Can't stop laughing 😭😂
Hugh as a scoundrel is perfect. 😆 He’s such a good actor, can always count on him to make me laugh.
Winning comment
So completely agree.phones have turned humans totally unsocial.and then we complain of feeling lonely and unhappy.
Ikr? I never feel lonely or depressed anymore …but if they shutdown the internet I would be isolated & homesick for my phone friends (I live far from everyone)
@@LollieVox But phone CALLS have always been good for connecting. Social media and texting are TERRIBLE for it, and people seem completely unaware or in total denial of it.
@@LollieVox Couldn’t you just call them?
Nope. Phones and computers and consoles and TV allowed people to want to go home and chill after work and not being pressured to stay with colleagues after work to get shitfaced :)
@@janetownleyIt depends how you use it. I've gotten some good sexdates out of social media and texting that would not have happened by phonecalls only.
His face is interesting. When he smiles it literally loses years. Glad he remains ascerbicly funny 😋.
That shows that his wrinkles were mainly made through smiling :) those things never lie, can’t fake a good attitude to life through surgery, your wrinkles will tell the expressions you most often pull
Ah, the effervescent and ever droll - Hugh Grant. Long may he be both awkward and scathing.
Yes!
It's his unapologetic natural charm!
I liked his bubbling 'professor' character on Netflix's end of the year review shows of 2020 and 2021. It was hilarious. I don't know why Netflix didn't do one in 2022.
He looked hungover and annoyed
I would have loved it if he got his eyes done. I am not proud of this.
To me Hugh was mostly just a pretty face when he was young :), but I started liking him as an actor as he grew older. And now I like everything about him. :)
Love his part in The Gentlemen. He’s hilarious
He was clearly having so much FUN playing that slimebag!
by far my favorite role of his
100% my favorite Hugh Grant role
He has had some hilarious moments in the interviews promoting this film, especially at comic con
Hugh is always so refreshingly real and brilliant 😄 Never change ❤️
Hugh Grant is such a treasure. He’s marvelous, hero or villain.
Hugh Grant is always charming & fun to watch. But the best acting I ever saw him do was as a villain in a little-seen indie film called "An Awfully Big Adventure", in which he plays a charming cad rat-bastard to perfection. There's a real good part in it for Alan Rickman too, and an odd melancholy ending. Heartily recommended.
You can see around 5:04 he switches off like "thank god I don't have to be charming anymore"
As a person in The film industry, ban phones from the set and concentrate on the job. I agree that film work after wrap was much more fun than today. Bravo for the comment.
EVERYTHING was more fun, imho.
But was there lots of shagging?
@@MothGirl007I think someone’s blinded by nostalgia
Hugh Grant is truly an icon in British cinema.
Yeah, he's a proper movie star.
Hugh was fantastic in The Undoing. Such a great thriller.
Oh wow I’ve never seen this movie- was he a villain?
@@LollieVox If I told you it might ruin it. The fun part is waiting to find out! 😂
@@LollieVox He plays charming English father of a lovely family haha
In this interview, his Oscars red carpet interview, and many other interviews, he seems awkward and introverted to me, not rude and full of himself. I think--like a lot of actors--he's not comfortable appearing as himself.
Agreed
I bumped into Hugh Grant once at Heathrow airport in London. Had a very brief chat with him. He was extremely polite and down to earth. Seemed like a nice guy. Don't think he's got much time for all the fakery and pretentiousness that goes with Hollywood. Away from the movie business, in my experience, he was very decent.
He just seems like someone who at this point in his life, has no time for fools or pedantry or the usual Hollywood circuit gossip guff. Like the difference between him talking to someone like Colbert here or Ali Plumb on Radio 1 is pretty stark, versus that red carpet moment at the Oscars. Actually 'talk' to him about something and he seems more than amicable, and open in conversation. Ask him pointless filler questions, and he just seems bored.
He has a wonderful nuanced, dry, self deprecating & IRONIC & very British sense of humour. I dont understand why so many people don’t get this?!
Actually, I see that as his unique, quick-witted, smart sense of humor or, with a tad of sarcasm and always the right amount of self-irony. ...Though you may also be right about his general uncomfortableness. I also think this is a bit of a clash between British and American humor because the signature sense of humor by Brits like Hugh Grant is often subtle but cheeky. In the States - or let's say - in American showbiz, it's often the opposite: A little less dark-humored but louder.
Hugh Grant is hilarious! Love his dry sense of humour!❤😂
Hugh is a great interview. Sly sense of humor and ready for a good quip.
Damn you gotta love the man's his unique, quick-witted, smart sense of humor or, with a tad of sarcasm and always the right amount of self-irony. BTW: I also think the whole Hugh Grant - Ashley Graham interaction + multiple other interviews of that kind are symbolic for the "clash" between British and American humor because the signature sense of humor by Brits like Hugh Grant is often subtle but cheeky. In the States - or let's say - in American showbiz, it's often the opposite: A little less dark-humored but louder.
Paddington 2 - loved him in it - along with the rest of the cast
I’m one of the few people who enjoyed his delightful arrogance at that Oscars interview when he referred to it all being “vanity fair.” I love a bit of self awareness.
Many, many, many people enjoyed it and only like him more now because of it.
I would like to formally extend an invitation to our gaming table to Hugh Grant 😂
Just when you see Hugh Grant, you now it will be something funny 😄♥️
"Oh god he's going to ask me about that stupid game, isn't he"
him describing the film world in the 'old days' sounds like the opera world today (im an opera singer). Maybe you should come over to the opera world, Hugh 🤩
"I also have an incredible a.." I bet you have, dear. Oh my. 😅😅😅
His Charisma modifiers must be epic.
Just checked the NPC Statblock for the character he plays, it’s freaking 20(+5)

Disarming Charm. While Forge isn’t wearing armor, his AC includes his Charisma modifier.
Double-Cross. If Forge hits a creature friendly to him with an attack roll, the attack is automatically a critical hit.
Evasion. If Forge is subjected to an effect that allows him to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, he takes no damage if he succeeds on the saving throw, and only half damage if he fails, provided he isn’t incapacitated.
Actions
Multiattack. Forge makes two Dagger attacks, two Heavy Crossbow attacks, or one of each.
Dagger. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) piercing damage plus 24 (7d6) poison damage, and the target is poisoned until the end of its next turn.

Uncanny Dodge. Forge halves the damage he takes from an attack that hits him. He must be able to see the attacker.
Hugh Grant stepping into jeremy irons' scenery-chewing shoes.
Excellent news haha
Never the one to blow his own trumpet. Hugh Grant after the 1990s 'incident'.
He had help with the blowing part.
I think we all remember where we were when Jay Leno famously asked Hugh, "What the *hell* were you thinking?!" 🧐😳😬😏😈🔥
Stephen's comment about actors not having affairs any more 😂😂😂😂😂
Stephen is the PERFECT interviewer for Hugh -- they play off each other very well!
Yeah I got that too, I'd really like a pint with the pair of them
My forever love, Hugh Grant. ❤️
Makes sense for Hugh grant to start playing bad guys.
I’m sure if the money was in bad guy roles when he was younger he would have chosen those parts over romcom leads.
Hugh Grant is aging beautifully. But then again, if I was Hugh Grant I’d be aging beautifully too 🥰😅💃
I honestly had no idea Hugh Grant was so charming ❤
No offence, but have you been living under a rock? 😂 In which case you are in for a treat watching all his early rom-coms. Crushed so hard on him and Mark Ruffalo as a teenager 💔
Hugh is hilarious.
The Crown should cast Hugh as Prince Perv..Andrew.
Loved the new Dungeons and Dragons film. It's a masterpiece compared to stodgy superhero films like Aquaman, and simply great fun.
Is it just a Marvel movie in disguise? I'm so sick of superhero movies.
@@jimsykes6843 Me too - I've pretty much given up on superhero films now, despite being a big comics fan. D&D's humour is much wittier and less signposted, and the whole thing feels like it's much shorter than its 2h14mins length. Instead of feeling like it's constantly trying to dazzle the viewer like superhero films tend to, each sequence is really nicely contained and moved the plot forward quickly. It's almost like The Princess Bride with how warm it is. I'm a 48 year old bloke but shed a tear at the end.
Hugh is Charming.
I felt Stephen's pain. 😂😂😂
Hugh: I need hugs
Also him: GRUNTS
😊
Eveeyone: Ayo
We know Stephen is a Tolkien fan, but Dungeons and Dragons? Stephen Colbert is officially a GEEK!
He's hilarious 😂
Hugh: I am told I am a rogue.
Stephen: I think it's a level thief.
It looks like Stephen played only 1st edition.
Yeah weird comment for Colbert to make when it's obvious they didn't base this game around 1st edition, Hugh Grant was likely right, Rogue.
Yeah, Stephen’s terminology sounded like he didn’t play past AD&D.
He‘s stated on multiple occasion that he only played 1st (and maybe 2nd) edition and then did not play for like 30 years until he did his one on one one-shot with Matt Mercer for Red Nose Day, where they even talk a bit about some of the big differences between 1st and 5th edition (which they play in that one-shot).
“Am I bothering you” 😂 calling Hugh attractive hahahahaha
You beat me to it. I was going to comment on The Gentleman as well. He did an excellent job in a terrific movie. Hats off to Guy Ritchie too. I love his movies!
There are many editions, so you can totally have played D&D yet be completely unfamiliar with D&D, it's a glorious thing. I fiddled a ton with 3.x Ed, but I also farted around with 2nd Ed, 3.x was completely different in many ways, but interestingly it was probably easier to code 2nd Ed games than 3.x games because character creation is a nightmare in 3.x, and you need lots of options in character trees these days or people feel stifled, 2nd Ed was very big on making characters largely interchangeable, it was very hard to have a 'unique' Warrior, at least Thieves could spread their points a bit and feel different.
NERD😃
Is there an actual expression, farted around? Never heard of it.
I had one experience with it, & got killed by a supposed friend- so I hated the game…but I think she just ruined it for me & was curious also why people said it promoted suicide. Did it? What are your thoughts as a seasoned player?
Whippersnapper. I had to hide my boxed set from my mom, who wanted to burn them for their heretical content. ADnD was the new kid on the block when I stopped playing. 😂
In all seriousness, you are correct that there is now a 50 year history of the game, with revisions and supplements and new books galore. I don’t even recognize most of the classes that exist these days. There weren’t even Bards in my day!
@@MegasSalavatis yes its definitely a real expression!
I didn't see anyone mention this in any other comments. Steven, thief was the name of the class back in first and second edition. They changed it to rogue to allow for other types of sneaky characters like assassins and ninjas.
Really thought Colbert was going to ask him to show it off ! Wow ! Things have changed since the 90s
Head of the chancelor never fails to entertain
love him SO much!
"I also have an incredibly as*, actually"
🤣🤣🤣
the undoing was great
It’s not like I watch too many movies(his or anyone else) … but I like this chap.
I love how he started to play villains
Check Hugh out in Ken Russell's movie 'Lair Of The White Worm'..Great movie!
'D n D'never fails to amaze
😂😂😂😂I would love to see you between the scenes 😅
😂you crack me up
He was Next Level in Paddington 2.....I think bad guy is the most interesting role
He was fabulous in it, and the film itself is perfection.
@@MothGirl007 that song and dance number at the End is EPIC!!
Hugh Grant reminds me of Edward Fox
Oh my god, the character is very much Boris Johnson.
Oooohhhh 😂 now I need someone to ask Hugh Grant about this idea
I suspect Hugh Grant is not a fan of Boris Johnson. He got a protester outside the Houses of Parliament to play the Benny Hill Theme on a boom box on the day Boris Johnson resigned. The result was conservative MPs trying to conduct interviews with Yackety Sax in the background. You can find them on You Tube.
Hugh is sooo cute
Love you Hugh !
Stephen Colbert hugh grant dungeon & dragon awesomeness job interview
as a D&D nerd its the other way around, Thief is a subclass of Rogue, so hugh was correct
Love this man!
Forgot who wrote this, it goes something like this!" everything I like is either immoral, forbidden by law or bad for my waist!" This comes with age I guess, once you have seen , tasted and done everything! I get Hugh!
Props for mentioning Comeliness, Steve.
very good actor and very funny
That’s why his “fiasco” at the Academy Awards red carpet was so confusing because I was like, huh? Hugh Grant is ALWAYS awkward and slightly rude.
Thank you!
I would love to watch him play with the cast and you Stephen, I'm sure he will love it immediately.
I'm going to see D&D in two days!
I love that his middle name is "Mungo."
And that's how to end an interview - all arse!
Uhm actually Stephen,*pushes glasses* Thief is a subclass of Rogue. 😁couldn't help myself.
Thief was a class of its own way back when dinosaurs roamed the planet. My first character was a Thief. "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons", before version numbers.
Great actor
I like the idea of Lorne Michaels putting the fear of god in people. Bc I’ve adored that show for decades. Very important to MY identity.
That is a way to sell tickets for sure! 😂
This interview gets half a star 😏😏😏👏‼
You could tell that he's a intervort and despite his decades of experience still finds these promotional appearances uncomfortable or awkward!
Seems like a clever and funny guy
Stephen's an old school DnD nerd from before the Rogue was its own class, which is why he got a little confused! In ye olden times when Stephen would have played, Thief was definitely a class you could play, but these days Thief is a type of Rogue, and Rogue also covers all manner of assassins, sneaks, investigators and other quick, shadowy types
See when the questions aren't dumb and frivolous you get the best from Hugh!
I'm surprised Stephen didn't know about the rogue class. Also, I really hope Hugh Grant gets asked to be on Critical Role, even if it's just a one-shot.
That’s a sign he hasn’t played in quite some time. The original 1974 version had only three classes (fighter, cleric, and magic user). The 1977 Greyhawk supplement added Paladin and Thief. I don’t remember when Thief got renamed as Rogue, but originally back in the day it was the Thief class. I do prefer the term Rogue, since it gives much more flexibility and scope for players to take their characters in lots of different directions.
Matt Mercer had hosted a couple of games for Colbert for charity, they are both on UA-cam
AD&D had the Thief, the Assassin, and later introduced the Thief Acrobat as well. Steven probably would be most familiar with that version of the game as it was the version played most from the 80s into the 90s. Rogue replaced Thief as a base class name for 3rd Ed D&D I think.
Rogue seems to fit him, that or Bard. A red nose day episode of CR with Hugh Grant would be fun, and likely raise a good bit of money for a good cause. 🙂
Legend. Cant wait to see him playing grumpy old cynical geezers
No more vacations for you, didn't know what to do for a week.
I’m thinking I need to try D&D😅
It's a great game to play with your friends in whichever way you all want to play.
Well he has certainly shown he can go the distance
He looks like Paul Newman now 😊
Fine wine.
Duly noted Hugh Grant
Talk about phoning it in . . .
Why do they always turn the engines on before he’s ready to get going? And why not hold the press conference INSIDE the building, before leaving? I couldn’t hear a word!
Wish I could just dodge the question and change the subject so effortlessly. You're not obligated to care about your project but I think it would help if you knew the most simple thing about it. I'll wait for D&D HAT to stream somewhere in a month.
Criminal for them not to have played even once as a requirement!
It is a damn shame that Joe Manganiello is not in this movie!
"Arrrrrrrse"
Yaaa! 😅 I love you. 👑 I were knowing that it's one of them. ♌ 🔆
Edward the Seventh? Who'd be Wallis? Cheers.
Oh dear! I guess that it is not an "ass" (donkey/mule) that Hugh is proud to have developed in his squatting sword- fight moves, but instead, as he says quite clearly, he has an incredible "arse" (ie that part of the anatomy he can distinguish from his elbow...) 😂
