    I'm 5'4" with my boots on, & can tell you it's not just about seat height, seat width also plays a huge factor in selecting a motorcycle when you're vertically challenged.

      This is so true tho. I am 5’2” and I wanted the ninja 400. But it was way too wide for me to even get one foot down flat. The dealership recommended I try the r3 and that was much easier to handle, despite them both having a pretty similar seat height.

      It’s a 35 year old bike, so maybe not a helpful recommendation, but the Honda Hawk NT650 is the bike I ride and I’m 5’3”. It’s super narrow and has a decently short seat height. Wish they made street or sport bikes its size.

    • @shenanigansofmannanan
      @shenanigansofmannanan 7 місяців тому +3

      @cofee670 no, it's totally a relevant recommendation/comparison. I've ridden plenty of tall/narrow dirtbikes through the years before/after getting my endorsement and have had more trouble with the thighgap requirements of Dyna's or sports bikes than with the significantly taller dirtbikes. It's the equivalent of holding grapefruit vs. A beach ball between your knees

      Don't be affraid to lower a motorcycles suspension in order for you to feel more comfortable and confident. My 2016 Suzuki gsx600r was lowered 1" by the first owner, it feels good to me (5'4") so I never changed it back.

      I got the Scout Bobber last year. Comes with one of the worst seats I've ever sat on (luckily there's like a whole industry of aftermarket seats lol), but the bike is incredible. No shortage of power, very low centre of gravity, decent storage if you're getting the regular Scout, and the mini-ape bars are very comfortable.

    • @tristanredding6750

      @@MrKlein83how would you go about getting the suspension lowered?

    • @MrKlein83
      @MrKlein83 9 місяців тому +2

      @@tristanredding6750 I highly recommend you have a shop/mechanic lower the suspension on a motorcycle. Depending on the motorcycles setup it can be an easy DIY job, BUT suspension is NOT something you want to mess up. Have a mechanic do the job for you & ALSO have them setup the suspension for your weight & riding style. So many people never have their bikes suspension set up for them.

    650 yamaha vstar custom. Change out the stock exhaust and back fendor with blue collar bobber rear and seat, shorty pipes.

    shocked that the vulcan s didn’t make this list especially since there are 3 factory seats and handlebar options for different heights. I’m 5’1 with about a 25” inseam and as long as i’m in boots, i can flat foot. I currently have the standard seat and bars as i can’t afford to upgrade to the reduced reach ones yet but i did switch to the reduced reach peg position as it only required a shorter shift rod but it was already a more comfortable foot position. the vulcan also has the same engine as the ninja 650 so it will absolutely rip if you really want it to but at the same time is a great beginner bike. im glad it has the reduced reach options though because even though the standard seat and bars are comfortable enough, I definitely notice some shoulder soreness after about an hour and I also find that I'm sitting far up on the seat near the tank but it's nice to know that can all be fixed with the shorter options they have.

    Good little video Yam. As someone who is 5'6" I was a little intimidated to get on a big bike. I settled on the Honda Africa Twin, followed by a Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2 and then needed a third bike because the world is ending anyway...picked up a 30th anniversary Fireblade which surprisingly seems to have the best standover for me.

      Wow. I’m also 5-6 and haven’t ridden for many many years but I want to get something in the new year. Gonna start with a 125cc and then see how I go from there. .i hadn’t even considered some of the bikes mentioned in these comments so clearly I need to go and sit on a few.
      Is there much allowance for the ‘sag’ when you sit on them?
      I’m pretty light at 70kgs (about 10st something) so do some motorcycles sit down more than others? (I’m thinking sport bikes will naturally have much stiffer setups?) nice vid

    • @PleadTheFifth_Racing
      @PleadTheFifth_Racing 2 місяці тому +1

      @mhoppy6639 the sport bikes don't really sag much at all and I have to tip toe the bikes. I just wanted to make the point that it's really not that big of deal. Weight shouldn't matter too much, you'll want to setup the preload for your weight is all.

    Not sure why people get so bent out of shape about seat height. The manufacturer specs on my dirt bike state the seat is nearly 38" tall and honestly I never even thought about it.

    Too bad we don't get most of the large displacement scooters that are available in other parts of the world. They tend to have lower seat heights that would be good for shorter riders.
    Not being short myself I don't have to worry about it.

    I’m 5’5’’, all torso no legs! Less than 28’’ inside leg. Riding for 11 years so far. It’s not all about seat height although that’s a start. It’s also about the size of your feet and your ass (e.g. how wide are you) the width of the seat and how far your legs have to go out and around the bike before they hit the floor. You can often also get lowering kits, lower suspension and take a bit of padding / width out the seat if you find a good upholsterer, and I’ve had half an inch added on the bottom of my riding boots. Ive sat on several of the bikes in this list and my feet still waggle in the air even on side stand. I owned a Honda Rebel but found that my back was the suspension (ouch!), and the handling round corners was poor and it rusted very quickly. Tried a Himalayan (lowered seat and suspension) but build quality was poor and it conked out. I also owned a 1990s VFR 700 that had a lowering kit, took padding out the seat etc and could do the balls of my feet and loved it. I also owned a NC750, lowering kit, lowered suspension and some padding out the seat - awesome and vastly underrated bike that holds all its weight down low and I’d strongly recommend it for a shorter rider. Modifying bikes can affect the handling so you need to keep an eye on that, but the VFR and NC750 still handled perfectly. Also, where’s the Vulcan on this list? In its standard form it’s very suitable. Don’t rule out the classics as well, you can get a lot of bike and fun for your money!
