- This trip has been months in planning! The anticipation and nervousness to just get going was brutal! But with the vehicles ready to rock and roll, all that was left now was to find out about the border crossings from Johan Groenewald (Tracks4Africa) and then go and get those pesky tests done so we could happily cross the border. But things didnt go to plan, my dads results didnt come through in time; but we pressed on anyways. Hopefully the results would arrive before we got to the border. We would cross the Northwest, and enter the Northerncape where we'd be camping at the Kalahari Monate campsite for the night as a stop over to the border. Our nerves now settling, all that was left to do was have a good nights rest and then cross the border the next morning! After Making our way through the Nakop/Ariamsvlei border, finding some fresh meat and vegetables was our priority before making our way to the Hobas Campsite at the Fish River Canyon; where we just had to have sundowners at the largest canyon in africa while the sunset over the horizon!

Awesome vid! Missed this 👌your laughter and excitement!
I missed all of you guys!
Looks like an incredible journey. Can't wait to see how the Toyota performs on Namibian gravel.
What an awesome way to start a comeback after a long time away.
LEKKER MANNE. It truly is going to be an amazing adventure. 👍👍🍻
I think. so too Rogey! It was a great reminder of why I do this, and why I want to share overlanding with people! :D
Love your uncle’s short shorts 😂 great video!
The best! hahah!
Always enjoy watching your vids. Nam is one of my favourite trips I do. Need to plan my next one!
I have so many ideas for coming back and places I want to see!
I think what sets Southern African overlanding apart, is that camp cooking is part of the adventure. Not a frozen dinner, microwave or pie oven in sight!
We had some fantastic meals! That meat from the little container butchery was incredible!
I hope our country has been great to you all.
Absolutely incredible! I will be back many times!
I'm absolutely frothing right now! I WANT TO GO BACK!
Can't wait to see the rest! Fish River Canyon was a definite bucketlist place! Nothing beats those gravel roads!
Hahah awesome man!
Beautiful work man! Came as soon as I saw the new video pop up and wasn't disappointed. Vintage ROAM storytelling combined with amazing African landscapes is a winning combo and the Luxy looks amazing!
Much appreciated! Thanks Tony, I am so glad you enjoyed it!
Epic Content Adrian. 😃
Thanks Zacks! Glad you enjoyed it!

Lekker man & worst 😄 love the hidden Dutch words 🥳
Cool - looking forward to the videos to follow! Feels as if things are opening up a bit for travelers and if people are getting out again!
Definitely! The campsites were busy and we saw people at all the little places! It was great to see, I'm so happy for Namibia, they really need it!
Another fantastic episode bro watching all the way from Manila😊
that's lekker bru!. Watching all the way from Botswana 🇧🇼
Awesome! Enjoy!
Very nice video and as alway a pleasure listening to you enthusing about the most photogenic country. Not sure where you are presently, but if you have not been to Windhoek jet, you have to stop at Mearua SuperSpar and have some just a Brötchen with Raw Hack. It is amazing.
Haha Thanks D P! Well we didnt spend much time in Windhoek; but we gave Swakopmund a run for its money!
Wonderful to see You back in action, man! I know that these first days of travel with their final arrangements a and switching ones self from everyday mode to travel mode can be bit nervous process but once already on the adventure vibe, everything is awesome. Looking forward to next chapters of Your awesome adventure!
Fantastic episode Adrian 👌
Looking forward to the rest.
Did a 33day solo trip in 2018, from Cpt through Bots, Zambia, Malawi, Zambia, Nam via Vic Falls........ 33days of pure Bliss!!!
Depression set in - and stayed for close on another month - after getting back.
That's a beautiful life, and some Absolutely Beautiful places to boot...
Loving the new rigs! 👍
Glad you like them!
This series is awesome! 🔥🔥
Thanks … Can't wait to see the rest of the adventure
Welkom in Nam. Geniet dit. I will keep an eye out for those two Hiluxes, one never know.

Thanks for subbing!
Very cool video, and welcome to Namibia (from a very proud Namibian). Sure you will love it, hope you really enjoy the adventure, and don't worry about things like supplies, we have everything South Africa has (without a lot of the bad stuff). Gaan groot

The cinematography is spot on as always and great addition of the 2nd vehicle. Looking forward to the series🤘
PS, I'll bring you some proper beers to our next meet up😉
Thanks boety! I think this series is going to be one of my absolute favourites as a creative! Some seriously fun stuff coming! I only drink Namibian beer now after this trip! :P
Great Story telling, welcome to Namibia. I am a 41 year old Namibian who hasn't seen that part of my country yet... But will take a trip down south soon... Enjoy Ur travels🤟
That’s awesome! I love the internet and being able to share my stories with everyone, anywhere! :D
Hi, eager to hear your view on the terrain tamer suspension. I’ve been looking at these. How has your ride comfort been since making the change?
Excellent ride! The comfort is incredible 👌🏻 I’m honestly so chuffed
Yes!
Great adventure

:D
Wow awesome adventure together with your dad ,uncle and friends to Baha.safe journey.greetings from Sarawak ,one of the Malaysian state on Borneo Island.🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Thank you so much 🙂
Beautiful place!!!
How much did everything you had to pay on the border cost you? Looking to do a similar trip in a van soon!
Border fee's was the Road fee's which was like 370 Per vehicle. Otherwise nothing else I think.
@@RoamOverlanding thank you! That is really not bad. Enjoy the trip man. Looking forward to watching the episodes.
Lekker man!
Lekke vid, but lets just rewind a bit,...... who braai's with charcoal ! ?!!!
😂first, excellent video!!! nobody comes close to the way you make videos in southern Africa, but seeing as you are now in our country.... as Russel said...charcoal? castle lite when you have access to the best beer in Africa? and we dont deflate, our gravel roads are to good😂 pulling your leg, cant wait for the next one!
@@NickfrNamibia hahaha, classic, couldnt agree more. ...all just for laughs aye. . Keep it up Adrian, keep the vids coming.
After being there and experiencing it all; I am wisened by the Namibian ways. My life will forever be changed! Namibian wood is epic, and the beers are even better. We were using up all our old stock we brought with. After Luderitz its just Hansa Draught and Windhoek! I will be back again!
@@RoamOverlanding haha, brilliant Adrian. Lekker man.
Can you please give men the name of your first campsite before the border? I'm heading to Namib in December - much excited!
Kalahari Monate Campsite
@@RoamOverlanding lekker. Thanks.
Nice video 🥰
Thanks 🤗
Brilliant videography Adrian as usual. Appreciate the sheer effort that goes into your research and storyline. Makes for entertaining content. What tyre pressures where you guys using on the gravel stretches?
Glad you enjoyed it!! We were running about 1.8-2.0Bar on Gravel and about 2.4-3.0 on Tar. The vehicles were very heavily loaded; so a bit of extra air was required!
Do you have a fan or something to keep you cool in the heat? Which fan do you use if you do?
Great video, but what exactly is a 'Cvid test'?
A C19 test 😂
@@RoamOverlanding What is a C19 test my bru?
I can't believe that I'm so stupid. I just realise that you meant Covid-19 test
What is the Garmin device on the right? A Garmin GPS? You already have the Garmin Overlander. . . Also, why do you feel it's necessary to mount the Garmin InReach Mini to the windshield? What are you using it for besides possibly a daily message/emergency call?
I put it there so it can get good satellite connection; I also pull weather updates and track the whole trip on it, plus it runs the map share that we send home for the family and insurance so they can see where we are all the time without us contacting them.
Which do you rate as better? the Fox or Terrain Tamer Suspension ?
The Terrain Tamer was incredible on this trip and It really impressed me! The smart coils and parabolics really change the dynamic of the vehicle is such a great way. I do think the Pro shocks from Terrain Tamer on this setup would be INSANELY good, but the HD shocks definitely hold their own out there in even the toughest conditions we hit.
Adrian, question about Fish river canyon, Im in the middle of planning my trip for March next year, and the canyon is my planned first night stop. Do you know if you are allowed to shoot there all night or are there restrictions, ive tried to find out and cannot find anything that says no, and i take it you camped at Hobas what was it like there? cheers
So from what I understood when I chatted to the lady; if you can at Hobas you have 24hour access to the Canyon. The Astro would be insane!
@@RoamOverlanding sweet, yeah hoping for epic clear nights, might stay 2 as I’ll probably arrive late on the first night
Hold thumbs😏💪💪
Great vid! Two quick questions what camera do you use and is Lion Lager available in Namibia?
Thanks George; I use a combination of a Canon C100 MK2 and canon 90D (mainly pictures). I didn’t see much lion lager there; mainly their local beers are really cheap like Hansa and Windhoek Draughty; the SAB beers are quite pricey there
@@RoamOverlanding Thanks for the reply. I guess i will have to smuggle my Lions through....
Is this close to the Blade's Edge Mountains?
About 1000 Kilometers away, as the crow flies!
Adrian, I am not sure where you have been or what happened, but is that the M1 13 inch MBP you are using at 2:00?
Yes sir it is; I do all my production on it
Lekke episode
Is it a safety thing that you stay in campsites instead of wild camping? If so because of people or animals? Just curious coming from the U.S. seems different to be in all these amazing places and then stay in a site.
There is a whole tourism network built around camping and overlanding across Namibia; these communities mainly earn any income through tourism. So staying in a site where you have ablutions and facilities is nice for most of the night camping. Plus it supports the local industry. Bare in mind here we are not that far into the middle of nowhere out here; in Namibia you can have everything from near complete isolation to nice comfortable camping; and 5 star extreme luxury lodges. We will be visiting campsites that are a-bit more remote but generally they are still managed by someone at some level. A beautiful spot to pitch your tent is a beautiful spot 😂
Where is “Die Vleisstal” located?
Just south of Grunau on the B1
What was the reason to change the fox setup
A change of business arrangement I guess
Please confirm the campsite visited?
kalahari monate in upington and then the fish river canyon site was called hobas campsite
How much is the road insurance and ask the small things you paid for to cross the boarder?
I think it was about R500-700 for both vehicles
What head lights do you have on the Lux?
Mine is standard with an upgraded LED globe from JW Speaker; but I am looking to change to the Osram's to match my spotties
💯
When are you coming? Ill host you! :D
Around in how much can done this car same like yours
1M ZAR if you were to buy a brand new hilux and do it
Are you sure you cooked enough meat on the first night? Typical Saffers :)
Gotta feed the men! We also made enough for left overs the next day for brunch
Will appreciate some information, will a Garmin gps with tracks 4 africa installed guide me in the remoteness of northwest Namibia?
Thanks!
Yes, but you will still want to use some information from locals and people who have traveled there before. I suggest a good starting point is the TREAD Overland edition 👌🏻 the latest software update has really made some incredible developments
Thank you,
As there is no phone coverage how does the Garmin navigate by connecting to satellite ? What worries me is to get lost and run out of fuel. To listen to locals explaining the way is in my experience a last resort especially when low on fuel. I have a petrol single cab land cruiser overlander , plan to fill up in Ruacana tank capacity 220 L plus extra 40 L ,the route roughly Ruacana, Epupa all along 4x4 track next to the river then to Onkwangati then van Zyl, rooidrom, Orupembe ,Puros,Sesfontein filling up at Palmwag. Not trusting fuel at Puros,Sesfontein, Orupempe or Onkanwati
Sounds like you have a good plan; Garmin GPS works without cellphone coverage. It uses the satellites so you get full connection and signal anywhere for your navigation. The InReach Messaging works the same way, you can contact home or help if you need to from anywhere in the world regardless of cellphone reception.
@@RoamOverlanding i was uaware of that, thanks much
I studied the gps you suggested which i agree is a good option , however have an old bgan modem which a friend gave me but after a visit to Radiotronix in Walfishbay Christo told me its useless because the cheapest data package is Nad 3000 and it last for 1 month it looks like an Iridium phone is best the data package lasts for a year otherwise renting a satphone for 500 a week plus data if used. I already bought a Garmin smartdrive 76 at Johan Tyre in Cape Town . So its between renting a phone buying a Iridium for 20 k or buying a Tread Overland for about 27 k
He didn’t mention that when going from SA u don’t need a carnet…..if not South African then you do !
Let’s not be too SA centric.
Sorry Alan; I had no idea about that. Most foreigners who come and travel here rent a vehicle from a local company. We only saw 1 EU registered vehicle on the whole trip.
