I'm a Namibian living in RSA for more than 50 years, and I have driven back almost every year. Seeing this makes me long to go back - I missed going last year. And after all those trips I especially appreciate joining you on yours and seeing all those familiar stops. And I AM GOING BACK!
glad you enjoyed the video Jonathan🙂 I make videos to provide people with information to go there themselves, but its always extra special when my videos allow people to reminisce about the places they've already been. Hope you get to drive to Namibia soon.
This feels so familiar. I am from Botswana. I have driven from Gaborone to Cape Town (approx 1400kms) in 2019 my partner and I drove from Gaborone to Swakopmond, another 1400kms (where I proposed and she said yes). I can relate and like you said the difference is there's less towns along the road driving in Namibia as compared to in SA. We're going back to Swakopmund this December. Amazing coast.
Nice drive, the scenery reminds me of driving through the Northern Cape which I do every couple of months. That Karoo and Semi-Desert vibes. I saw the same scenery in Nevada in the United States.
As a Capetonian, I would really love to do this road trip trip on the N7. This is such a brilliant video, so informative and the music makes it even better
I’ve done this trip quite a few times and love Namibia. Looks like a less red version of the Australian outback. The roads are excellent for a huge country and a relatively small population. What was truly impressive were the gravel roads constantly maintained by graders which towed their living quarters behind them. Looks like a few new gas stations since I last traveled. 👍🏻
we are fortunate that our government still prioritises the roads, compared to our neighbours in the region. And yes, fuel stations have been poping up like crazy the last decade
One of the reasons I want to be a truck driver... for the endless country music and most of all enjoy the open road as I chase one horizon, and vanish to the next one. Great video, great choice of music, great narration and awesome camerawork.
This is so beautiful! Been to Namibia twice in my life and loved the country. This video makes me want to come back for more time. The vastness of this country is so appealing. Btw. The music selection is the best ❤️
I'm from PE an I've dreamt about doing this drive so many times. Thank you for taking me along. I'm giving my self a yr now for me to do it. Great work 👏
From a brit in Uk, lekker menheir, baai danke ! I did Windhoek to Etosha back in the 80's, in a bakkie, graded dirt road all the way, Outjo overnight, then Otjiwarongo, 140 klicks, lots of animals to watch and avoid, it hadn't rained up there for eight years !!! You bought back some wonderful memories, danke 🤗
I remember me very well.We drive the same way in 2017 from Cape Town to Windhoek. Very Relaxt and without any Traffic. We Overnight on a Guestfarm near Mariental. Than one Night in Windhoek with Sightseen. Than one day later we Fly home from Windhoek back to Germany.
Just subscribed and looking forward to your epic trip. In the 1980's I drove from the UK to Nairobi and more recently across North Africa and extensively throughout Egypt, so I am keenly interested to see the places I didn't get to as well as how you cope with the adventure. So far, so good!
This was so therapeutic 😄 so relaxing...I for 1 never went to S.A. before n I felt like I was apart of the whole trip just sitting on my couch in Namibia smilling😁👏👏
Thank you for sharing. So very familiar. Just did that border crossing 2 weeks ago on motorbike, took the long way via Namib desert and Swakopmund. It was fantastic to see the countries from Cape Town to Victoria Falls.
Watched the whole thing through. Mostly your playlist kept me here. Very informative planing to do cape to Cairo drive for my 40th in 2023 and I have been watching hundreds of hours of trips, yours definitely enjoyed. Hope I succeed it’s been 3 years planning
I do overlanding and have been to Namiba now 16 times already. The best feeling is when you drive over that bridge into Namibia. It is also good to know that when you travel from Namibia back to South Africa you can use your Namibian dollars to put in fuel at Klawer.
I didn't actually need instructions - I'm quite familiar with this route and it's an extremely easy drive. Actually, it's too easy and that's the danger as people get complacent. Bring a friend to swap driving duties if you can. Besides speeding drivers, tire damage is probably your biggest threat on Namibian roads. If your tires are not in excellent condition, replace them before you go. Bring a spare, more than one if you can. A word of caution if you're visiting for the first time - Namibia is highly addictive!
South Africa/Namibia border. South African side an absolute nightmare. Namibian side a total delight. The officers were happy, helpful and ever so welcoming. Mozambique border a total pain and a disgrace.
Just watched your video now and thoroughly enjoyed it. You keep everything short and to the point. Your video of the road never gets boring and you have chosen a lovely soundtrack to go with it! Sadly no chance of me ever getting to do an amazing road trip like this now. Makes me very sad. I now "road trip" via my laptop - but of course never ever the same as actually doing the real thing. Thanks again!
I really would love to make this drive to the North to see my Namibian friends I met in Russia during our University days. Thanks for sharing your journey!
In 1968 my father, mother, sister and I drove a VW Beetle from Port Elizabeth to the SWA (Namibian) border with Angola and back over a few weeks. Quite an adventure! I was about 15 at the time… No internet, no smart phones or lap tops and no GPS. Not even TV then !
I actually was on foot from the Noordoewer border town, through Vioolsdrift and reached a small town called Bitterfontein coz I was headed to Cape Town!

@@NickfrNamibia I love traveling, I came to visit but I'm staying a little longer than anticipated. Long story short, I just decided to change my mind about returning back home soon, "ho now". I bet you'll start flying out of Africa in the near future.

I travel this road at least 4 times a year. Most beautiful, and I often do it solo. I prefer to nap at the border for about 2 hours and then proceed. I work in Namibia, in Walvis Bay, and also use the Windhoek way to get there. Mom and I drove the 1st time without really taking proper rest, not knowing the getting a sim card is such a tedious task, and we wasted about 3 hours. We got that done in Mariental the 1st time. But all went well.
I just love Namibia. Can't wait to do a proper tour of especially the desert landscape side. Only been to the Zambezi/Caprivi side. Good job you are doing there Nick..👌👌

Shall I say pleasant 'walk down memory lane'; I kind of stumbled on this video, reminds me of the first and only time thus far I have driven on that route in the 90s, with a person who is now my wife today, in our 20s, my early work life after varsity, our direction was southbound, from Swakomund/Walvis Bay to Cape Town, detoured from the N7 to overnight in Port Nolloth, then made a whistle stop at nearby Alexander Bay to see the mouth of the Orange / Senqhu / Gariep river, then rejoined the N7 to Cape Town but detoured again via Clanwillian, Citrusdal, Porterville, Wolseley, Wellington (via Bains Pass) and to Cape Town, spent about a week there. Then embarked on another long journey back home to Soweto via N2E then, over the Tradouw Pass near Heidelberg CP, pass Barrydale, into the Klein-Karoo (Ladismith, Calitzdorp), then spent a few days in Oudtshoorn exploring the Swartberg area, including a visit to the Cango Caves.
