I genuinely love the psychotic "bah" sample chromaticisms that play throughout the second half. kinda makes it feel like something's trying to emulate a happy, friendly feeling without understanding the concept itself.
It’s the same sample from the secret area themes, so I think it’s probably to add to how this was the only regular boss hidden in the game. With the secret area context in mind, it feels like the whole encounter is not supposed to happen. Gives it that vibe of just happening to walk down the wrong alley way at night.
I was unfortunate enough to get spoiled on the existence of Fake Peppino via thumbnails, but none of them showed the boss in progress so I was still absolutely floored from the fight itself and I'm so glad that was the case. The visceral and goofy disgustingness of the boss is so good to experience blind, even if you know there is a Fake Copy Boss somewhere in the tower.
I had the same experience if being spoiled by still being surprised by the boss What I would have given to be able to come into this boss completely blind.
I had the same thing too! When I first saw fake peppino, I thought he would be some sort of enemy (I was still unaware of the level war) and I was shocked when I discovered that he was a boss
He honestly feels like Peppino's anxiety-driven fever dream version of a successful expansion of his franchise. Like, becoming so desaturated from the original, that your original idea of fastfood chain becomes distorted amalgam of what it was intended to be. Most certainly it is a blank take on the meaning of this boss, but whatever.
I think that’s what Fake Peppino is supposed to be. Peppino fears of expanding his restaurant to the point that it would become a hollow shell of what it once was. Just like how Fake Peppino is an imperfect clone.
I have a theory that pizza face or something else made this thing to draw in peppinos customers after he nukes peppinos shop, or to make it look like peppino moved in the pizza tower, idk
I really love how everything about this boss is pretty much designed to make you think "Just where the hell did this guy come from anyway!?" From the warped versions of all of your attacks to the summoning of other fake clones to what look like the corpses of other failed Peppino clones laying in the background coupled with the giant Peppino mural and sign that devolve into utter gibberish once phase 2 kicks in. Then when you think you beat him finally you then have to run away from him now as a giant warped eldritch abomination.
That’s what makes Fake Peppino scary. There is no explanation as to what he is, where he came from, or what his relation to the big bad is. Is Fake Peppino evil or just admiring Peppino? Is Fake Peppino all part of a kill and replace plot? Why does Fake Peppino reside in this abandoned pizzeria? Was he artificial like the Peppino clones or is he just some naturally born creature? The lack of explanation just makes Fake Peppino more creepy. There’s no rhyme or reason to Fake Peppino at all. He’s just… there.
There NEEDS to eventually be a mod that lets you play as Fake Peppino. Those mach runs up walls that lead into mach runs across ceilings just look too fun
I absolutely love everything about this boss. The concept, the gameplay itself, the pepperman-like chase at the end, and the music having the pizza time leitmotif. Fake peppino was honestly my last guess as boss 4 but dang is he so good.
I totally thought it was gonna be snick the whole time, I had heard of a chase sequence and thought it was gonna be a snick executable phase at the end.
Oh my gosh, I had never thought to compare the chase to trying to catch tiny Pepperman before! That's pretty clever, since for the whole fight, you're getting a taste of what you've been dishing out.
I've noticed that this track seems to have a somewhat longer playtime then the other songs, I like to imagine that this reflects how stubborn and frighteningly persistent Fake Peppino is as an opponent, technically Peppino doesn't defeat him, so much as just escape, with that _thing_ watching and waiting for the next poor soul to wander into it's lair
It also perfectly captures the situation Peppino's in. He's basically trapped with a deformed clone that wants to kill him. Basically the archetypal "alone with the psycho" thing. Fake Peppino is basically a super persistent predator who will stop at nothing. I think the creepy part is the fact that there's no explanation as to Fake Peppino
I think my favorite part about this boss has to be the Peppino VS screen when the player first enters the boss gate; At first it shows a mirrored version of Peppino but upon replaying the stage you're greeted with the boss's true horrific face. With this in mind though I couldn't help but wonder if the game's intro sequence changes if the player has beaten Fake Peppino?
No the intro sequence doesn’t change. The most noteworthy change occurs when you fight him as the noise, where he’ll use the Peppino mask to scare him, rather than the yawn animation he usually uses.
Having not kept up with the development, I truly wondered going in "Why is the game hiding the 4th boss, there's no real plot, what could be so important to hide" Then the boss door appeared and I realized that a Shadow Link esque fight makes sense to hide. Then I actually enter the boss fight and see this awful funhouse mirror version of Peppino and realize even more why the game hid him. Then the fucker quickly looks to not just be cartoonishly exaggerated but melting and oh god there's a lot of him, and this arena is getting more cluttered and insane by the second. It was just such a cacophony of surprises after surprises that really leave you beyond disheveled as this boss does everything in its damn power to overwhelm you and throw you off. The final sequence being the perfect finisher, as after Noise you may forget most bosses had a final "attack" consistently, and especially after you dedicated most of your brainpower to keeping track of the Real and Fake Peppino in that mess of a fight. Keeping him hidden to add to the overall effect was the perfect choice, even for those unaware of his Faker's history in the game's development.
Personally, Fake Peppino is a living representation of how I feel towards what I'd like to consider "cutesy mascot" iterations of existing characters. They're designed to be small, appealing, and adorably funny...but there's something about them that frustrates me. They're all frauds that distort the original trying to make the spotlight all on themselves, and I just sense mindlessness in people enjoying them, like they forgot what it means to make a character with real soul. Fake Peppino shows how I see them on the inside, and then some.
I love how whenever the song sounds like it’s about to end- it never does. Like the title says, pizza time will NEVER end here It really feels like fake peppino is doing everything he can to keep the song- and by extension the fight going for as long as possible, not letting the song reach a natural end. I absolutely love it 🙏
imagine for a moment you're running a simple pizzeria and a massive tower pops up one day that also sells pizza and starts taking all your business, then you find out the pizza they've been using to take all of your success is just a cheap mass-produced imitation of your own recipe, complete with a shape-shifting doppelganger chef. That's how Peppino felt during this boss fight.
It is because after getting chased by him,You existe the pizza place and it says,"Brunos Pizza".Im pretty sure before peppino it was a guy named Bruno.
9-12-24 I almost think it was made with the Plok Soundfont. It had the same feel of the Beach Theme. Similarly, the "P-Rank Get" almost reminds me of the NES Pictionary Soundfont. Heck, a lot of songs remind me of songs by Tim And Geoff Follin.
2:05 is my favorite part. Bringing another game in as an example, Marvel vs Capcom 1's Venom theme comes to mind in this part. Just the barely contained, yet rhythmic chaos of the song and its beat feels similar. It's unhinged, yet a banging track.
I'm still confused about how you end up in a run down place called Bruno's Pizzaria after the fight. I thought a former Pizza man called Bruno who has a grudge on Peppino might end up being the final boss or something.
Probably wrong but when I first saw it my brain immediately went to "Bruno was some other guy who got the pizza tower treatment but didn't quite make it"
I don't wanna be that guy but... some dude in the tower called Bruno probably died to cancer or smth and fake peppino found the abandoned pizzeria and thought: "azzip ecalp, etacilper onippep azzip"
Now this was a surprise. Thought he was a random meme ditched during the betas. He kinda encapsulates the insanity of pizza tower and its memes. A somehow crazier and more exadurated peppino. Pure insanity as it starts running up the walls and throwing its own head off. Also this remix slaps and is paced so well with the craziness unfolding.
@@axious9613 I'm so fucking glad they didn't go with that. I already don't like the jumpscares in the game as it is, but having the game crash every time I time out would just be a nightmare.
This is a really cool, really creepy fight. The music is kind of a throwback to Wario Land 4: there, the final boss music was a warped remix of the escape sequence music, like what we have here. I doubt the parallel there was a deliberate one, as the primary significance of this song is as a freaky Dark Reprise of what is, essentially, Peppino's leitmotif, but I still think it's rather interesting.
Fake Pep is such an interesting character to me, he's the perfect balance between uncanny and just straight up goofy While part of me kind of wished they didn't retcon the whole idea of him being a cheese enemy in disguise, making him his own thing is way more interesting. Personally, i like to think that he kind of just showed up one day out of nowhere, and Pizzaface let him stay for the sake of it
Actually, judging from the War level, and the cloning facility and clones of Peppino in it, its probably likeley that him and all the other clones like him probably came from that area
@@Mikescool444 My personal headcanon is that Fake Pep was the first "functional" clone, and while the others turned out much more accurate in their appearance to Peppino, they also became significantly weaker.
They probably retconned the cheese enemy in disguise idea because the Vigilante was already a cheese boss. Having unique bosses matches the Tower's unique levels.
@@Ezezetayin I know I'm 8 months late, but I do despise it when people put really big spoilers on thumbnails mere days after its release. So the thumbnail being blank is a nice touch. (Also nice N pfp btw)
I love that Fake Peppino's theme radiates a sort of genetic WMD created in a lab, an ultimate lifeform kind of energy. I have the mental image of a figure not unlike Mewtwo, but it's just this goofy and yet eerie-ass gooey Italian "man".
My favorite head cannon is that every boss composes the boss music themselves. Because fake peppino is a clone of peppino, he tries to replicate pizza time because thats one of the things peppinos known for. But cause he is a failed clone, he probably doesnt know how to play pizza time. So he trys it at the beginning, but fails and goes "you know what fuck it" and does his own thing. Sort of.
I gotta hand it to the devs for making an amazingly terrifying boss and the fact that they hide his true appearance until you beat the fight is really cool too, also he doesn’t know English as seen in the art of him for his pizzeria, making him more uncanny, and he changes his look based on your costume? There was so much effort put into this guy it’s surprising, oh, and they referenced Peppino’s unused Sonic Adventure taunt in this fight? It’s really well done! Oh and don’t forget that you don’t beat Fake Peppino, you escape Fake Peppino.
Fake Peppino kind of seems like this games take on Batamon from Kirby's Dream Land 3 to me and I absolutely love that. For those who don't know Batamon is a mysterious enemy in KDL3 who bears an uncanny resemblance to the protagonist, Kirby, however in most cases you cannot actually fight this enemy as they are always out of reach. I think this boss kind of nailed that unsettling feeling of accidentally coming across one of those hidden Batamon enemies albeit without that secret nuance and in a more blatant spooky required boss way.
I love how Fake Pep started of as a ye classic faker mook, became a pizza time chaser, scrapped, and returned as a boss with a bang! Honestly. As a mook I was kinds nonchalant about him, but as a full on character, he now has so much character and nuance. Going from nothing to become best character.
@@rr53213rr I mean, there is that credit image if Pep and Fake Pep just staring at each other in shock in the alleyway when they're both taking out the trash. They both look like they just DON'T wanna be there.
really love how if you dont miss hitting the boss during the first phase the second phase starts right at 2:09 (unless you really rush the fight by attacking him during some of his attacks ig)
My favorite animation is by far when he's running around the room with his brain exposed, it makes this theme so much more fitting to the character, especially at 2:26 while having a thousand fake peppinos just running around the room during the fight.
If I had a nickel for every time a French person managed to make googly eyes threatening, I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t much but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.
Gotta be one of the best moments in the game (and there's at least a couple dozen of those) - love everything about that boss sequence as I really enjoy Weird Fakes Trying To Be Something They're Not - amazing (and spooky) 👏👏👏
Ngl fake peppino's theme is definitely my favorite I love the fact that its literally the pizza time theme but slightly warped with eerie sounds added in (The name is very fitting)
Shame they nerfed the escape sequence, on release that son of a bitch was really quick and really gave you the feeling that you need to GTFO of there immediately.
My own theory for this guy is that Pizza Face wants Peppino gone so that he can control it, creating Fake Peppino so that he can be more of a silly, memorable mascot of the pizzeria.
Two things I especially like about this track that make it so unnerving: Around 2:25, the Pizza Time motif comes in, but the first and second halves of it are swapped between measures. This really sells the impression of fighting a demented mirror of yourself; it appears exactly the same, but just feels… wrong. Then, around one minute later at 3:24, the hi hat section sounds like it’s playing in 5/4 while the rest of the track is still in 4/4. I think this is called polyrhythm, and it does a good job at worming a sense of unsteadiness and confusion within the listener’s mind. Aside from those two things, the constant bending of pitch and tempo lay the foundation for a very trippy, nuanced and enjoyable song that perfectly fits the character of Fake Peppino. This is one of my favorite tracks in the game.
Gonna admit, first thought of me seeing this boss was: SKINWALKER Idk I guess it was the lankiness of fake peppino made my mind this that, but honestly didn’t expect to fight a fake version of peppino.
Y'know, I wasn't expecting a skinwalker for boss 4, but when I walked through that boss gate there was Fake Peppino in all his uncanny, terrifying glory I love this unhinged, funky-ass game
1:26 "No more moving." "No attacking." "Or your flavors and your textures will be lacking." "Calm up." "You can rest unsure." "That when you're gone." "My pies will not compare to yours."
a monstrosity, a cheap imitation, a replacement. this monster wears your face, but doesn't make your pizza. was this creep made to replace you? or was he a simple failure. no matter the case you must stop this thing before it hurts someone. like your customers
i like to think that the people at peppibot factory and the lab workers at WAR made this. the peppibot factory workers probably convinced the workers in the lab to make the perfect peppino clone, and fake pepinno was the first model. it obviously didn’t work out, so they took over some poor guy and his restaurant, and let fake peppino in there, and the clone did him in there are other failed models, explaining why peppino is in the trash bags and pizza boxes. The lab workers in WAR eventually made their peppino, and forgot about fake peppino, but the lab was invaded or something, explaining why the peppinos in the lab aren’t perfect.
Quick question… What the actual fuck, this game was perfectly funny and stuff and then I get this. There are limbs from those garbage bags and a face leaking out of a pizza box. Why, Tour de Pizza?
I like thinking of the Fake Peppino that you actually hit and hurt as the host or hive mind, and then all the ones in bags that come out to jump you between hits are all taking orders from the hive mind faker
i forgot how actually well done this song is holy hell this is nutty also SHOUT OUT for blocking spoilers in the thumbnail I LOVE HOW ITS NOT COMPLETLEY BLACK THERES STILL SOME OPACITY

I could honestly hear this song as an EarthBound boss theme, especially around 2:07
Battle Against an Italian Döppleganger
@@PunkySun64undertale type beat
I just love this part
@@christianayala-n9w That's how EarthBound battle themes are named
Battle against a True Hero is just referencing EarthBound's naming
Battle Against a Freak of Nature
This is a really cool, really creepy fight. The music is kind of a throwback to Wario Land 4: there, the final boss music was a warped remix of the escape sequence music, like what we have here. I doubt the parallel there was a deliberate one, as the primary significance of this song is as a freaky Dark Reprise of what is, essentially, Peppino's leitmotif, but I still think it's rather interesting.
Fake Pep is such an interesting character to me, he's the perfect balance between uncanny and just straight up goofy
While part of me kind of wished they didn't retcon the whole idea of him being a cheese enemy in disguise, making him his own thing is way more interesting.
I thought that Fake Peppino was made out of dough
Where did they retcon it. I tried searching it but I couldn’t find anything about it.
They probably retconned the cheese enemy in disguise idea because the Vigilante was already a cheese boss. Having unique bosses matches the Tower's unique levels.
Appreciate you keeping the thumbnail spoiler free.
You would already know of Fake Peppino and his theme if you clicked here
@@Ezezetayin I know I'm 8 months late, but I do despise it when people put really big spoilers on thumbnails mere days after its release. So the thumbnail being blank is a nice touch.
(Also nice N pfp btw)
@@deltatrunefan7774 Randomly stole the art from Google. Also I don't care about all that time difference. Thank you.
I love that Fake Peppino's theme radiates a sort of genetic WMD created in a lab, an ultimate lifeform kind of energy. I have the mental image of a figure not unlike Mewtwo, but it's just this goofy and yet eerie-ass gooey Italian "man".
Guys, I just figured out that the head throw attack is mimicking the enemy throw
🤯
Ohhhhh-
Ohhh

My favorite head cannon is that every boss composes the boss music themselves. Because fake peppino is a clone of peppino, he tries to replicate pizza time because thats one of the things peppinos known for. But cause he is a failed clone, he probably doesnt know how to play pizza time. So he trys it at the beginning, but fails and goes "you know what fuck it" and does his own thing. Sort of.
And he ruined the place with clones getting out of walls
Fakino is so perfect for world 4 because he can count as an 'urban myth.'
Is it weird that I want a metal cover of this?
No because I want one too
There is one
richaadeb got you on that front
The music starts off so slow and creepy like and slowly turns epic as it continues, great theme
Thank you for keeping the background black on the thumbnail to prevent spoilers btw

@@rr53213rr Yeah That's exactly what I feel too!
I also get the sense he is more jovial contrasting the nervous and burnt out Peppino.

This game is the perfect fusion of goofy fun moments and eldritch beings beyond our comprehension!
My favorite animation is by far when he's running around the room with his brain exposed, it makes this theme so much more fitting to the character, especially at 2:26 while having a thousand fake peppinos just running around the room during the fight.
Huh, never thought that Tour de Pizza would put the Thing in their game
This is the most Wario Land 4 sounding track, and I love it.
When you beat your reflection at rock paper scissors
If I had a nickel for every time a French person managed to make googly eyes threatening, I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t much but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.
Gotta be one of the best moments in the game (and there's at least a couple dozen of those) - love everything about that boss sequence as I really enjoy Weird Fakes Trying To Be Something They're Not - amazing (and spooky) 👏👏👏
I love how the title is a reference to Mr Bones wild ride
Ngl fake peppino's theme is definitely my favorite
I love the fact that its literally the pizza time theme but slightly warped with eerie sounds added in
(The name is very fitting)
What a cool concept for a boss fight
I love how its just a messed up version of "It's Pizza Time!". The music even overlaps to the next part, which i think is cool.
Shame they nerfed the escape sequence, on release that son of a bitch was really quick and really gave you the feeling that you need to GTFO of there immediately.
And then they brought it back for the Noise…who scares him off
My own theory for this guy is that Pizza Face wants Peppino gone so that he can control it, creating Fake Peppino so that he can be more of a silly, memorable mascot of the pizzeria.
this track is insanely cool thematically
This track folded me like a piece of paper
Those out of time rythem parts are oddly really catchy and go well with the theme of the song.
Two things I especially like about this track that make it so unnerving:
Around 2:25, the Pizza Time motif comes in, but the first and second halves of it are swapped between measures.
Gonna admit, first thought of me seeing this boss was: SKINWALKER
Idk I guess it was the lankiness of fake peppino made my mind this that, but honestly didn’t expect to fight a fake version of peppino.
Y'know, I wasn't expecting a skinwalker for boss 4, but when I walked through that boss gate there was Fake Peppino in all his uncanny, terrifying glory
I love this unhinged, funky-ass game
the beginnning its sounds creepy but when it gets further its just....amazing
Gotta wonder if the speech bubble is gibberish or a secret cipher.
Even has the leitmotif seemingly related to Peppino.
2:05 here's my favorite part

i like to think that the people at peppibot factory and the lab workers at WAR made this. the peppibot factory workers probably convinced the workers in the lab to make the perfect peppino clone, and fake pepinno was the first model. it obviously didn’t work out, so they took over some poor guy and his restaurant, and let fake peppino in there, and the clone did him in there are other failed models, explaining why peppino is in the trash bags and pizza boxes. The lab workers in WAR eventually made their peppino, and forgot about fake peppino, but the lab was invaded or something, explaining why the peppinos in the lab aren’t perfect.
