Jonny I have this exact heater, if you hold in the 2 left hand buttons it goes to alpine mode for higher altitude. It shows ups 2 mountain peaks on the display. Makes it slow down uses less fuel and slightly less heat.

@@jonnytacooutdoors yeah it's a handy setting, just makes sit sweet topping up the heat without over heating. Also the display is actually a count down not a clock, so you set it to come on and off.

The quick connect exhaust is awesome. Might think about getting a copper “union” fitting (1/2”? ). It’s a two part threaded “nut and socket” fitting that threads together. Less chance of the coupling heating up and falling out the bottom of the heater. Can’t swear it would work. Just an idea. Awesome video!
That’s a really good idea the fitting that I used it’s actually pretty loose because the exhaust pipe is really thin material and so you can’t really get it that tight. I have yet to have the exhaust fall out but it’s definitely a possibility. I love your idea about a threaded fitting. That sounds awesome. Let me know if you get that figured out.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I just saw the video oxfoot had with the heater. You did a real nice job setting up the heater. The fact it uses so little fuel for that long runtime is great.
I’m currently testing it out right now! New video coming Monday. And he’s Oxfoot is where I got the idea for the tire step mount! He’s the genius behind it.
You have a great setup here! Thanks for the tips and installation video. I probably won't go camping in the winter, but this would be a decent option to use if I ever had to. Do you have a video of it all packed away when not in use? Do you keep it in a box and then pull it out when you want to use it?

In regards to packing it away I thought of maybe getting a PC cover for it. But there’s not many extra parts. There’s only the exhaust, and the vent hose . Those I must throw in a front runner storage bin. 👌🏻 I decided to keep the power cords always attached the the posts on the heater and I just bundled up the wire and Velcro tied them to the top plastic handle piece.

Like the mods you did thanks for showing us. I want to get one of these for my four wheel camper but I just dont know the right power source to use. Definitely dont wana go off my truck batteries, how many days can you get on that blue charger you have? If running it while sleeping all night like 9 hours lets say, hanging out and sleeping lol
The bluetti will last 2 and a half days powering my dometic fridge. If I plug in the solar panels into the battery it’ll run indefinitely. A couple trips ago I finally got to use the solar panels because we were parked in the same a lot for a couple days and it’s awesome what they do. I linked the bluetti battery in the description. However that’s the 300WATT battery you can get bigger but they just get more expensive. I opted for this one because it was in my price range and I wanted the solar panels. Thanks for watching!

FYI when your doing vids and your talking about someone else’s video you used and got some information from it or liked the idea, put that in your video. Try explaining this over and over to a guy who watches the work and pretends he dosen't understand that you have to add mods somtimes to have the product safe! @@nathanmciver6496 instead of the 3 inch elbow look for "3 inch semi rigid aluminum duct" its very sturdy, flexes well and bends to a sharp 90. Ditch the elbow and only use this. Its 8 feet long and gets the main heat away from the soft ducting(the stinky stuff) that i use.

Just two quick questions;
1. How loud is the clicking noise? Since you are using it near your tent, isn't that too loud for overnight ?
2. How strong is the exhaust smell? Isn't it irritating to keep it close to the tent?
Thank you. The clicking noise isn’t loud and I never got a strong exhaust smell inside the camper shell or my truck camper now. The heater works great & if the click bugs you then you are supposed to hang the fuel pump by zip ties instead of having it solid mounted inside there(supposed to quiet it down). Mines still hard mounted I don’t hear it inside my camper with the sound of the air blowing into it.😎💪🏼
Great build! Might I suggest a carbon monoxide detector for the tent. The unit's build quality looks surprisingly good, but you can never be too safe

The heat vent doesn’t blow any exhaust fumes. It’s a heat exchanger.

@@timjchick - The exhaust vent is still down below the tent. As is the truck. Never a bad idea to have a Carbon monoxide detector. Sure, CO2 falls, but hot air rises.
What size inner diameter hose did you use to feed the fuel filter? I got quarter inch hose but the plastic fuel line is smaller. Or did you get a smaller size nipple on the filter?

Not a bad idea. My new vevor I’m currently using I did not install a filter.
How do you maintain the temperatue when in automatic mode, isn't the thermostat built into the controller? I am considering doing what you have done but also extending the wires for the controller so i can have that inside the truck camper.
Extending the controller would be sick. I just learned how to use the remote and can turn it on and off. Other than that . In a few months I’ll be solid mounting it into the back of the truck. I just put it on the low setting and let it do it’s thing.

I have the same setup going into my RTT. My issue is that if I run the heater over Level 3, then the heater goes into overheat mode. Have you had any issues like that?
It’ll do that if it’s not cold out or try running a 4” hose instead of a 3” my buddy had luck with that

I bought that blueetti....i turned it on after a good charge....and by morning it was 80 percent dead....with no load....does yours hold a charge w the diesel heater fan running all night???

You just need to expand the tire step arm that goes over the tire (it's adjustable) and it's gonna sit perfectly flat, no washers needed.

I wouldn’t leave it out in the rain . I’m sure everything is waterproof besides the electrical controller. I will cover mine with some type of easy up or awning. Video of us using the heater coming soon !
Nice video on your diesel heater install. Just curious how it has been going since then. I tried a similar setup and found my external battery (1200 watt hour Lithium Cube) was shutting off because the heater was drawing more than 10A, which you also mention at 15:05. Jackery and most others also limit their DC output to 10A so just curious if there has been any issue from your end. It is not a huge deal, you could use an AC to DC converter with higher amps produced, but just one more thing to have to deal with in the setup.
Hey I used it for the first time this last weekend and didn’t run into any issues. However I didn’t run it the entire night. We will see how it does throughout the next trips.
I ran into this issue with my EcoFlow River 2 Max. Luckily I already had the dc to ac converter on hand. I’ve ran it a few times with the converter and haven’t had any issues. Although I was definitely bummed when I had the overload message on my EcoFlow when I was trying to run it on dc

Looks great. However you should replace that red can with a yellow can. Red is only to be used for gasoline, yellow for diesel and blue for kerosene.

How well does a pump air through all that hose
Pumps air well. The heater is adjustable the higher you set the fan speed to the more it’ll blow.
Would you say the diesel heater is pretty loud? I occasionally camp in state parks where the campsites are within 20 - 30 feet of each other

Hey! 25mm copper coupler, can you clamp it tight enough on the exhaust exist? I am planning to do the same setup but not sure. Because I will install it in my canopy camper and needs to be sealed well and safe.

Any reason why the exhaust pipe needs to be so ungodly long on these? Why not just a little non flexible L pipe out the bottom?
That’s a good question. You could always cut yours to make it shorter.
That exhaust wrap will make it MORE likely to start a fire! You're keeping that heat inside the tubing until all that focused accumulated heat escapes at the muffler exit.

How do you prevent the diesel fuel from freezing/gelling? I'm concerned.
Since this happens as high as 32F/0C.
Do you use additives?
I’ll have to keep you posted on that! The fuel tank is inside of the unit though and the heater does stay a little warm to the touch. I think that should help a lot. 💯
Gas stations use winter blends if you buy the “premium” I ran 70/30 mix in my diesels in mn with no issues and no additives 70% #1 diesel and 30% #2 diesel cause #1 has very little lubricant products
Much better efficiency can be obtained by running a second hose (same size as the one feeding the hot air into the tent) from the air intake end of the heater to the inside of the tent. As it now stands you are always heating outside air. The heater can raise input air by a finite amount which creates a differential of a fixed value. For example if the heater is capable of raising input air by 40 degrees then the output air temperature will always be 40 degrees higher then the input air. If the input air is taken from outside the tent and that temperature happens to be, say, 25F then the heated air entering the tent would be 65F - not bad but for every degree that the outside air drops, the heated air also drops by the same amount. If you take the input air from inside the tent you will stay much warmer with less fuel and be less sensitive to outside air temperature. Those numbers may not be what your heater delivers but the principle is the same.

This is a very bad idea as it creates negative pressure which can draw exhaust fumes into the tent. Always draw air from outside to create +ve pressure inside to prevent killing yourself with carbon monoxide. Same reason space heaters have been banned in Australia. Too many people dying

If anything the air intake is more likely to pull in exhaust gas as it's setup now.
If the air intake was inside the tent it would be farther away from any exhaust gases.
thats not how negative pressure works mate. The air intake must come from outside. The same reason that space heaters are banned in Aus now too many people die from carbon monoxide poisoning. Idea is to create positive pressure in the room being heated so air is pushed out of the room not drawn in. If you air intake and your hot outlet are both in the room you cant help but create negative pressure which draws air form outside in including exhaust gases. Im just a plumber that installs heating for a living so what would i know. Also these heaters need to be run above minimum setting to stay efficient. Ticking them over on minimum causes the jets to foul with oil residue and premature failure and/or incorrect combustion also leading the carbon monoxide build up.
@@GregBatt66 I think you’re thinking of the combustion intake. For the actual clean air intake this doesn’t make sense as the total amount of air in the space, assuming it’s air tight, which it is not, remains constant because it is heated and recirculated.
The combustion intake on the other hand is air that leaves via the exhaust so if that is inside the space then that would create negative pressure as you’re effectively removing air from the inside.

Does that hose leading to the rtt cause any foul odors when the heater is running?
Sure did when the hose was new . My advice is to run the heater with the hose on it for a couple hours before you use it with your tent to burn off the smell.

Question: I purchased the 25mm coupler but... the cut part slides in as you did but the other side (the clean part of the pipe is probab 1mm smaller so it is way too loose. How did you make it work? Thanks a lot.
Mine actually isn’t snug when I install the exhaust into the coupler but it has not fallen out. If it does become an issue I will come up with a solution! Keep me updated on yours.👌🏻I usually put it in and bend it a little if that makes sense to make sure it has a decent grip.

@@araskazar yes didn’t think of those! I was thinking of maybe getting a pc type cover for it just for storage but not sure if that’ll work while it’s running. So yeah maybe some plastic type cover to cover those two top parts.
I’ll actually be running a 270 awning in the future so I’m hoping that should be enough to keep the electronic parts dry.🙏🏼

How does it regulate temperature inside the tent?
You set it on whatever fan speed setting will maintain the temperature you want. From what I’ve seen they don’t have an actual thermostat like a normal heater/furnace setup.
How many hours/nights usage do you get out of your Bluetti when using the heater? And what size battery? I’m thinking of getting this set-up.
The bluetti is linked in the description make sure to buy using my link it helps out the channel. Sooo The heater draws barely any power what draws most of my power is running my fridge off it. Which is does fine. I could run the fridge for at least a couple days without re charging. I got the solar panels with my bluetti also.
This is how I run my setup. Plug the bluetti into the 12v plug in the truck(buy an extension on Amazon) then plug the fridge into the bluetti. That way when you start the truck the battery is charging and when you turn off the truck the fridge is using the battery.👌🏻 HAPPY CAMPING!

Great question. Yes the hose I will be trying to find something more metal with less plastic. @@jonnytacooutdoors Awesome just ordered the same one but going to let it run out in the open to get the smell away. Just a headsup for anyone looking to run this off a bluetti. I have the Bluetti EB70S and the startup with the glow plugs triggers the 10A safety in it and it shuts down. The work around I found was to use an AC to DC converter rated to at least 15 amps and run it that way. There is some efficiency loss but I'm hoping that with the bluetti will have enough overhead to get through the night and charge with solar in the morning. I still need to test it for a full night though

Have never found the need to. It always smokes for a few seconds when it starts up which tells me there was no need. Now if you over prime it I’m sure you’ve seen how much it will smoke. 😆

I imagine the electronic screen module part is not. I will have the heater covered with an awning. Or mounted inside the new camping setup

I will say the only real downside to these is the screen and settings. It's a pain to learn and even then once I figured it out, I occasionally have to look up my little manual to make sure I am doing it right.
I couldn’t figure out the manual and my screen doesn’t work with any of the UA-cam video instructions. Seems like my unit self primes when I turn it on and I’m able to adjust the fan and temp. Not sure what else I need to adjust.
@@jonnytacooutdoors Yeah thats pretty much it theres just different cycles. I'm going to try a unit this winter that just has on and off and then a dial. And Also this year I'll be switching to kerosene as it's better on the unit in the cold. So I hear.
According to my experience in China, there is a problem with this case: when the exhaust outlet faces the strong airflow, it will blow the waste air back into the car, so the exhaust outlet should avoid the wind and go down

@@jonnytacooutdoors Always make sure the exhaust going down so you don't get any water/moisture to get back into the heater when it's turned off. Inside an truck isn't an problem as long as the exhaust is well insulated from burnable parts.. I have it mounted under an bench in my RV and it have worked just fine for like 5 years now...

@@jonnytacooutdoors it is diesel that does not have the road tax on it. It’s meant for farm vehicles and other off road vehicles. I run my diesel heater on it and it burns the exact same as road diesel. The advantage is it cost $0.50-$1.00 cheaper per gallon because it doesn’t have the road taxes on it. Not everywhere sells it so you have to look for it. But if you find it, use that instead.

There’s things that are flammable outdoors such as brush on the ground
the shorter the air hose, the less heat is lost. then maybe you should have a return line for the air back to the heater, then you don't have to heat up cold air and it can save a little on diesel.

Safety Warning: beware doing this if you have a sealed environment (like a camper). For a tent, probably no problem because they are not as air-tight, but I’d still worry a little even then. Recycling the air like this can burn off the O2 in your space over time and you can literally suffocate in your sleep. Probably best to just keep the air inlet sucking outside air rather than air from your confined sleeping space.
@@figmojustfigmo3820 this is how heaters work in mobile homes. but certainly take the air from the outside where it can suck in the exhaust gases from the burner. then there is usually ventilation in both mobile homes and tents. but of course you have to be careful. it applies to everything.
@@figmojustfigmo3820 good words. I might actually not solid mount it in the truck (so I have more storage room. ) and just bring the diesel heater out on the winter trip. Leave the diesel heater on the tire step(suck air from outside) good idea right?
Also I’m mount a carbon monoxide sensor inside the camper.
Also I always sleep with windows cracked.

@@jonnytacooutdoors my hose needed replacing and I ordered what looks to be the same as you got there. The minute I touched it I knew it would never work. I went with a 3” heavy flexible expandable aluminum hose. I had to modify it a bit to a 2 kw heater, but it gets so hot you can’t keep your hand on it for more than a second.

I accidentally just bought the 5kw version. I was not aware that there was more than one option.
What's the difference? More heat? Should I be concerned that I got the 5kw instead of the 8kw?

Yes it is Chinese. When I first researched these heaters I did hear about Germany making the heaters and they are super well built and also way more costly. The Chinese heaters are a copy of them’ !

@@jonnytacooutdoors i live in sweden and 70% of cars have factory installed hydronic diesel heaters for engine and cabin heating. German heater are more expensive but consume 50-70% less fuel
