    I believe the exhaust is suppose to be angled down to ensure drainage of condensation.

    Thank you Matt for posting these types of reviews! As someone newer to these, it's been a bit daunting understanding all the options around them. Super helpful as I dive into this review today, especially as I'm in the market to get one in a week or two! As always, safe travels, thanks for all the great content, and happy trails!

    DIDO...lol. Well said. Me and my wife work outside everyday all year round. We love our all in one 5K chinese diesel heater narrow tower. We found in our rooftop tent and now our GFC we use about 150-195 watts of power and 1/2 gallon in 9 hours. Running it in the middle settings #3 - 3.5(1.6‐5.5) Outside temps around 12f - 23f with inside temps around 60-70f.
    A couple things no one talks about as a bennifit with the all in one is that when the temps are below 15f your less likely to have issues with your diesel gelling up. Since the tank sites right above the heater box.
    Now on side note we moved away from using our dryer hose due to the off gases. Even after running it for some time. I'm sure products will very from one to another.
    Great video! Best money ever spent. (2 seasons going strong. Plus we move it from camper to camper to camper)

    PERFECT TIMING !!! Have a Silvel sitting in the basement in a box for the last month. Have the tall thin all in one option. Was going to fire it up today to test it. Have the FF Power ( previously Bibene, 614 watt power box) to run it as one option. Watching many YT vids on set up. Liked this simple no frills approach. Yep....we can dig into other stuff later. Although one YT'er did suggest just making sure all internals were snug as far as wire connections and fuel clamps finding some minor tweaking may be needed there in his experience.
    Keep warm.......sending Colorado negative temps your way......sorry.....hehehe......Happy Ground Hog Day.

    Matt great video as always! I have same Heater different brand. I use mine with the little Jackerry 240 from Harbor Freight for now.
    Tips/ my limited experience 2x trips totaling about 4-5 nights.
    ***First time I used the heater I had a power error code (was afraid I had a lemon) and heater wouldn’t fire. It Turns out if the supplied power voltage drops below 9 Volts it will shut off. Like you I bought an extra length of cable 15ft. Ended up having to do a bush fix and cut the cable shorter (You loose voltage over distance)
    Lessons Learned: 1) Use a Shorter Power Cable for smaller power supplies
    2) If You can buy a heater with a longer Thermostat cable that would be better so you can put the thermostat in the tent for more consistent heating.
    3) Rarely do the wireless remotes come with the Battery…
    Overall 2 nights on one tank of Diesel (Might not last a 3rd night). The little Jackerry can power one of these for one night, Dropped to 56% by early morning, but you’ll want to recharge while on the go. During the day I plug mine up to the 112v Aux plug in the rear console.
    There’s a great PDF that I found to help decipher the controller. You can google “Mastering the Diesel Air Heater” it was the only source I could find with 1/2 bars of cell; so I saved it to my phone. Jon @StartBuildingYourDreams. PS: Let me know if y’all come over to the SE… we enjoy beach camping in the Off Season (NC) and have some more exploring to do in the Appalachians, Gulches, Beasley’s Knob, and Windrock…

    Matt - Great video, very detailed thank you. One more bit of advise for anyone watching, when running the exhaust pipe, the output/muffler needs to be the lowest point. The pipe should not be sticking up like the video showed or else condensation in the pipe will cause problems. Also if you do us a muffler it should be mounted vertical with the notch on the bottom pointing down to allow for drainage.

    Good how-to, which helped me. If I could add to it - while putting on the intake and exhaust on the Silvel/Wippro - there’s a slot on the side that a screw driver can fit in. It shows in your video. I figured that out after trying for 10 minutes to get my ratchet in along with my sausage sized, old man fingers (w/no success). The slot and a screw driver works like a charm! BTW my Wippro uses 5mm socket. Hope this helps someone.

    I am not an Overlander. I have done plenty of car camping and hiking. These days there is comfort and safety in outback boonies. Good you guys. Happy journeys. I have viewed couple of videos to see what I missed out on so far. I'd rather do religious pilgrimages. But for sure for camping and Overlanding one could bring Bible. I have an All Wheel Drive but not 4x4. I don't expect to obtain a 4x4. The main reason I viewed this video was about the diesel heater, nice. I thought the diesel would be Loud. But doesn't seem so, was surprised. Nice to know. When I've been in the outback it's been on tours, horses or 4x4.

    Not sure if you have spoken about it before in other videos. But the heaters can put out an odd smell. Which I believe to be from Diesel spillage from the trek to camp being sucked into the inlet for fresh air. The fuel caps these come with don't seal very well. It could also be from the vent tubing I'm using, offgasing an aluminum kinda metallic smell.

    Do you have any thoughts on full electric tent heating using a jackery or ecoflow battery type system and a regular old space heater? The youtuber "tinkerer's adventure" recently had a really interesting video about this. He was even carrying a microwave on the trail!

      Heating with electricity uses a LOT of power. I don’t see how you would get a full night out of one even using a 2000wh power station.

      @Casey250 Рік тому

      With full electric, your looking at using your heater to get your tent warm to go to bed, and warm it up in the morning before you get up. You can't run electric all night on a portable power station. I use all electric right now, and that's what I do. Id addition I have a USB powered heated sleeping page and some really warm blankets ( a wool military blanket is great in humid cold environments over top a normal camping quilt).
      Keep an eye out on Ecoflow's Wave 2 though, it has a heat pump system built into it which will be way more energy efficient but I'll want to test it out in person to see what it can handle.

    Is it ok to set the heater out in the weather? Snow or rain doesn’t bother it? Just curious.

    That heat wrap is good. But first cut a length of that carbon or whatever it is black welding/soldering flame fire blanket. Wrap that around the exhaust. Than wrap that tape wrap around that.

    Mount the exhaust pipe exactly like in this video pointing away far from the air intake. You don't want gases going into the air you breathe.

    All you need is a bison hide...although getting into a cold one is miserable. That is where a diesel heater comes into play.

    I'd do some YT research on these. There are a lot of little things to know and tweak about these things that'll make them last longer.

    Aren't you concerned that the exhaust and intake are too close together oh, that the intake may bring in some exhaust fumes

    • @OzarkOverlandAdventures
      @OzarkOverlandAdventures  Рік тому

      How? The exhaust is higher than the intake and it’s outside. There’s zero chance of that.

      $2000 + for a portable heater (the ROAM container alone is $@400 ) intended for a RRT or even a ground tent is a tad excessive, IMHO. I don't go into the "wild" to sleep in a 68 degree environment. If I want to do that I take the 22' trailer but that is a different experience altogether. I did build a Planar / Autoterm unit some years back and that thing has been rock solid. No thermostat but all I want is to heat up my RTT or ground tent so that I can enjoy a few hours of reading, etc before calling it a night. The heater goes off until the morning when the heater comes to life and heats up the area in a matter of a few minutes. I get it that some folks want a different experience but that seems a bit excessive to me... "Different strokes for different folks!"

    Diesel fuel only has a thermal energy output of around 3.5kw.. So technically... None of these diesel heaters are 5 or 8kw.....
    They can only blow as hot as the fuel can burn......
    Diesel has a lower energy output.. Hence the need for higher compression in a diesel motor, vs a gas....

    Careful with the dryer duct hose off of Amazon. The stuff that claims to be insulted...has a black plastic around the outside of it that puts off nasty fumes. I literally woke up the next morning vomiting with a terrible headache
