Emma is a total package of soothing content. The voice, the presentation is just so calm and soothing. I could have the worst day but end up very calm and feeling so much better after watching Emma on youtube
Hon, I’m slightly later to the party than usual (shame on me), but from the title alone, I must say that if ever you’re feeling down or need to get some shenanigans off your chesticles, never hesitate to call upon any of your 133k subs - I think I speak for us all when I say you’re a precious bean that deserves to be happy and all the literature you could ever desire and we’re here to help if you need us :)
okay, i get completely what you mean about putting off books you know you'll love. i've been doing it with the picture of dorian gray for so long now, and i think the reason, at least for me, is because i know i'll only be able to read it for the first time once. which sounds obvious, but when you're so connected to a book and it's the first time you're taking everything in, it's such an indescribable experience. and i want to have the best experience possible, so i'll put it off until the weather is right, or until i'm in the right mood. but there's never an actual perfect time to read it, so it stays unread
I really felt what you were saying during your pj’s chat at the end. I was feeling very stuck in my emotional state this past weekend and remembered that everything passes so instead of shutting everything out I called a friend and we headed to the beach within the hour and had a super relaxing time, it really reminded me that it’s all a matter of feeling everything in the moment, knowing that nothing lasts forever (or even for very long)
I sort of understand the feeling you were talking about? Sometimes I find books or tv series or anime that I'm sure are going to mean so much to me and make me happy and enjoy them, yet I keep putting them off, and I'm like I don't want to get involved yet...? It's a really funny feeling. But I guess I also don't want to consume all these wonderful things at once.
Feel the same way! There’s a few books that I wanted that were out of print and very expensive but I tracked down them finally but I still haven’t read them after a few years of owning them.
hi emma, thanks for pushing through despite your condition. i feel it in my whole heart when you talk about "it's not all fun and reading in here" and how reading could actually be your source of pain, but i (we) really appreciate what you're doing for us! your vlogs has been one of my main source of comfort over the past year or so. i feel blessed with your frequent uploads recently and i truly don't care how long your videos are, you always manage to make it so cozy! do take some breaks for your own health. we're still here for you and, yes, it felt like you've just hit 100K but now look at that amazing 133K! sending love and hugs. take care!
I feel that way, too, about wanting to savor the things that make you happy. You obviously want to enjoy them, but it can feel so fleeting or overwhelming to feel so much so intensely. It’s like saving the best piece of food for the last bite. You get to that bite and you enjoy it, but then it’s over and you don’t have anything else to enjoy and it’s bittersweet.
the feeling emma has of not picking up books/movies she knows she's going to love, i have with these vlogs. watch a little during the whole day, everything for me
ever since subscribing and binging Emma's videos, I've gotten SO invested in classics, classical studies, and literary fiction, and it's changed my life honestly haha at the very least changed how I read. I've always loved reading philosophies and "bigger questions" and stuff in books and discussing them, and this is my niche to do that. not to mention the amount of poetry and plays I've also picked up 😂 thank you so much Emma!
There’s a brazilian short story written by Clarice Lispector called Clandestine Happiness (in a collection of short stories with the same name) that is an exact description of the feeling you mentioned (when you postpone doing something you know you’ll love/you’re very excited about). I think you’d enjoy reading it :)
Its okay to allow ourselves to just feel bad sometimes. It's not a failing, or a set back. Like you said, you're moving forward. Time does help most things.
Omg I feel the same way about things I love! Like when Taylor Swift's evermore came out, I was super hesitant to listen to it because it was so overwhelming; I felt like I was going to combust and wanted to appreciate it fully but didn't know if I could handle it. This happens to me with everything lol - music, movies, TV shows, books, you name it. It's so wild to see someone else talk about it.
You talking abt not feeling studio Ghibli movies is so relatable. Like i want to watch it but i m not ready to experience everything that has to offer....
Yeah, it's like you know you're gonna love it, you know you'll be so much invested and you cannot afford to atm as you've so much going on. Like I ain't watching any new studio ghibli rn and re-watching the ones I have already watched. (ps - I'm posting this as a separate comment too)
I totally understand what you mean about saving something you love for later. It’s like a savoring type mentality. Like you just don’t want to end it yet, you want to enjoy and savor it.
I appreciate the real talk about your illness/injury. I suffer from major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder which can cause physical symptoms that I struggle to push through. And sometimes all I feel up to is listening to audiobooks, which have always been there for me during dark times.
18:53 I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I’m just not ready to feel the feels. I know that the movie or the book will literally push me to feel, but I’m so not down for that at THAT moment, so I will just keep procrastinating to watch/read that film/book forever and ever
I totally get your feeling about Studio Ghibli movies. They are my favorite animation movies but I can't watch them at any time because there is a certain feeling attach to them. Like I can't watch Totoro if I am not in a childish mood or The wind rises if I am tired. But when you feel it, c'est la cerise sur le gâteau de ta journée
i totally get what you meant about not wanting to pick up things you know you'll love! as one of my friends like to say "this looks like something i'll love and i just don't have the energy for that right now"
I couldn't agree more with the thing you said about being hesitant with the things I know I will like. I don't know why this happens but I waited four years to watch a movie because I knew I'd adore it, same thing happens with books all the time!
I send you the biggest and warmest hug possible and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your selflessness in sharing your passion for life and literature. But do take your time outs to look after your own health.I can only speak for myself in saying, however little or much you can give you are owed an unpayable debt of gratitude ❤️
17:20 i totally get this feeling! i think for me it's because i know i'm going to love it so much/already do love it so much that i don't want it to end, and i don't want to know the sad feeling of when i finish reading/watching it. not wanting it to end!
17:39 i was literally talking about this one of these days!!!!! it’s been like 3 weeks since i got to 60% of the song of achilles and i just DONT WANT TO PICK IT BACK UP (and haven’t for these 3 weeks)! seriously, just thinking about it makes me feel overwhelmed with every single (good) feeling you can imagine! i’m scared of feeling this much, i’m scared to go back 😭
Hope you're feeling better sweetie! I love what you said about being illl and the feelings that go with it. It's so true and I needed to hear that. Having fibromyalgia and having my body really turn on me this year it's easy to get frustrated and not feel yourself but like you said being good to yourself and accepting of what's happening help. A positive attitude and a sense of humor go a long way!! Sending you gentle hugs!! 💜💜💜💜
I totally know what you mean about that loving something/being happy feeling. I think you worded it well! It's so weird, isn't it? It's almost like a fear to be that invested and emotionally attached to something. Maybe because that's the one time it'll be so new? Maybe it's because there's a fear of being let down? I don't know. But it's definitely related to the overwhelming love of something I think. I know that I personally am very emotional so that probably helps it along hahaha Also, I'm so proud of you for taking care of yourself and trying not to beat yourself up about feeling bad. While I'm not in your position or anything like it, I think just the fact that you're still getting through things is so incredible and important to acknowledge even (and especially) when all you're doing is just getting through the day because that's super, super important. Not every day needs to be something amazing. But you need to get through every day
I made and ate my breakfast and tea while listening to/watching this and it just felt like a great, calming way to start my day. Now I'm gonna go read 😊
Yeah, it's like you know you're gonna love it, you know you'll be so much invested and you cannot afford to atm as you've so much going on. Like I ain't watching any new studio ghibli rn and re-watching the ones I have already watched. I get you, girl, thanks for stating it
definitely do the tbr! if not for its own sake, i like to see if i have a book on my own tbr, that i can read along with you. reading with (your) company is so much more fun than reading alone!
I 100% understand when you were talking about almost not wanting to read or watch something because you just aren’t ready for the feelings it’s going to give you even though they may be positive! I feel like that a lot, especially the first time reading some of my favourite books that I know I’m going to like because I know some part of me will be changed and it’s just so much excitement that you almost want to stay in the excitement and never engage with the media.
Sometimes I have a book hangover after reading a book where it almost feels like I'm grieving. Like someone died or I've been broken up with. I'm not sure if you were talking about the fear of that feeling around the 18:00 mark or not.
hii emmie, wanted to say that you really inspired and motivated me to open my own booktube channel which is my childhood dream!! i'm gonna start as soon as possible🥺i love your videos so much, you also motivate me to read more books too, thank you so much, you are amazing!!
Fantasy romance books, oh yes! Mostly during the summer, they can definitely cheer us up and help us disconnect! 🤩👍 Oh yes, I am a witch as well btw! 😉✌
I can feel you when you talked about not picking up certain books cause you are not ready to be invested and get hurt. I sometimes get into the middle of the book and get so scared to know what comes next cause I already know what comes next and keep putting it off until you just can't. It's like it will hurt you no matter what.
Totally get the 'putting off' engaging vibe with books (and films etc). For me it's like mood matching - and it can extend to choice of books too. Sometimes I just don't sync with a novel or what's going on in a novel, and have to postpone things.
I’m glad you’re enjoying Sailor Moon vol. 2 😊 it was the first anime + the first mange I ever picked up 💜 I also know what you mean about loving/wanting to read/watch something, but not feeling ready or waiting for the right feeling/mood to read/watch it. That’s such a mood! I feel that too. Also, I only found you a month or so ago, but I absolutely adore your vlogs and take inspiration from some of the books you’ve talked about xx
I'm 100% that person that avoids things I know I'll love because I'm afraid I'll be ~overwhelmed. Like it is too much or something. I've literally put things off for years because I just can't handle that much strong emotion. Idk. I'm sure its completely healthy 😩
I listened to/watched this video and a couple of your others while finishing an inventory and doing close-out tasks at the school library where I work, and it was such a calming and restorative accompaniment to my work today! Thank you so much for keeping me company
Hey Emma! If you're interested in reading more dutch works (there aren't alot of works that I've read that are translated into English) I definitely recommend Tonke Dracht's middelgrade books!
I remember looking into a book of the month since I kept seeing it on booktube and was so disappointed that all the box subscriptions are mostly states or in Europe which they do ship but have been on wait list. Then I found Sweet Reads which is Canadian and the goodies in it are all Canadian. I've had a few boxes, they are a bit pricey but it's a nice treat every month especially during these times. Anything to give a little pick me up
I remember in german class that we had a discussion wheater animals are as intelligent as humans or not. And I remember my teacher saying they aren‘t because they aren‘t able to speak. This was so long ago but I remember so vividly how it threw me off immediatly. How can we make that comparison and judge? I mean if you look at it animals have a lot of skills that we don‘t have.. It always depends on what your judging factors are I think. As that quote goes „don‘t judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree“
Hi Emmie and everyone. I love your vlogs a lot and I literally watch your videos every single day. thanks a lot for your cozy, beautiful, and lovely vlogs. 😊❤️
Yeah, it makes sense! I have a list of books i know for sure I'm gonna love, but I'm still hesitating to read them. I think the reason is that I'm scared of the intense feeling and reactions they're gonna provoke in me.
where did we come from? Well your video on planning a month of reading was recommended to me and I’ve been binge watching your videos ever since! So happy to have found you 🤍
I have so many books on my shelves that I just gaze at and think about how much I’m going to love it! I also do it with tv shows, sometimes I’ll just refuse to finish it because I don’t want it to be over. It’s like I need to separate myself from my connections with these things that I love so much. It happens to me in social situations too so maybe I’m just insecure about vulnerability and attachment feelings. 🤣
The "putting off stuff we know we're going to love" part is so so familiar to me... I do it because I daydream a lot so I'm scared of getting into it too much by falling in love with another story. Also, the fact that I can predict how it's going to make me feel makes it a bit boring. I'd rather remain neutral or become curious of how that book could make me feel instead of holding on to a certain idea. The surprise outcome is always a bigger motivation than an outcome that could be almost guaranteed.
History is all you left me by Adam Silvera, Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, Everything I never told you by Celeste Ng, and Second chance summer by Morgan Matson
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah And DEFINITELY read Hosseini’s books, maybe the Kite Runner. The book hits you real hard in the first few pages itself
i could literally listen to her talk abt books for days

I remember looking into a book of the month since I kept seeing it on booktube and was so disappointed that all the box subscriptions are mostly states or in Europe which they do ship but have been on wait list. Then I found Sweet Reads which is Canadian and the goodies in it are all Canadian. I've had a few boxes, they are a bit pricey but it's a nice treat every month especially during these times. Anything to give a little pick me up
I'm enjoying this so much
Could please do an updated bookshelf tour??
It's so cute that bella in the shelf 😅
been yearning for a reading vlog from u, yesss✨✨
I remember in german class that we had a discussion wheater animals are as intelligent as humans or not. And I remember my teacher saying they aren‘t because they aren‘t able to speak. This was so long ago but I remember so vividly how it threw me off immediatly. How can we make that comparison and judge? I mean if you look at it animals have a lot of skills that we don‘t have.. It always depends on what your judging factors are I think. As that quote goes „don‘t judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree“
Loved it, I am speechless ❤️❤️❤️
Sending you lots of love and strength !
I personally love the TBR/planning out the month videos, so I would love for you to do one for june
I love monthly planning video.
Hi Emmie and everyone. I love your vlogs a lot and I literally watch your videos every single day. thanks a lot for your cozy, beautiful, and lovely vlogs. 😊❤️
Here is a big virtual hug for you Emma! 🤗
Im exactly the same. I rarely finish tv shows, and even video games!
I get what you said about Romance, I’m trying to discover the genre as well 🥰
sending you love and strength 💜 keep going!
Can you please do a video on wholesome/clean book recommendations?
You're the best emma
I’m trying to get the sailor moon vol 5 and some are soo hard to find. Sailor moon is my fav series.
The surprise outcome is always a bigger motivation than an outcome that could be almost guaranteed.
emma you're my fav studio ghibli character
Y'all i need some sobbing at 4 am in the morning book recs
ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES!!!
That’s just fan fiction 😭
@@user-om9op9kc7h ok hosseini books are good to cry to, ur right 😫
History is all you left me by Adam Silvera, Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, Everything I never told you by Celeste Ng, and Second chance summer by Morgan Matson
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
And DEFINITELY read Hosseini’s books, maybe the Kite Runner. The book hits you real hard in the first few pages itself
