These tv specials were a must see for any kid and they kept making them for a long time. One memorable one from the 1980's was hosted by Roddy Piper. It's too bad these kind of things can't be made anymore.
Josh, your dad was a genius, and he means so much to those of us who grew up at that time. His sketches were great, and I still can't eat nacho cheese Doritos without picturing him. He was (and is still since you have made his videos available) a true icon. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you for sharing this Mr. Schreiber. A flood of memories and more happy times as a kid besotted by the Superfriends. Also wonderful to see your very talented & missed dad. My sincerest best wishes.
I remember when this originally aired. These were the BEST shows for gearing up for the first Saturday of the new season. It made having to go back to school worth it, knowing that you had this stuff to look forward to every Saturday morning. Good times. Good times. Thanks for sharing this little nostalgic gem. :)
Hey Josh: I was able to tell your dad how much I enjoyed his & Jack's comedy as a kid when I worked with him on Days of our Lives in the early 90s. We ate lunch together in the NBC commissary a few times too. That meant more to me than working on the soap. Years later I saw him on the picket line during the 2000 SAG strike. Avery was a true talent and genuine great guy! I'm going to watch every one of the videos you've shared. Thank you.
Thanks Josh Schreiber for sharing this video. I remember when the Big Three tv networks still produced animation, and Saturday Morning Cartoons were a big event. Now, there are 24 hour cartoon cable channels, and websites that offer cartoon instantly at a mouse click. I remember when these Sneak Peaks were events I anticipated to see the next season of shows. I feel nostalgia for that era even though it was still in the middle of the dreaded Cold War. Avery Schreiber was a funny, talented man.
Great stuff! Always thought Mr. Schreiber was a riot! An old friend of mine worked on one of his feature films years ago! Thnaks for posting! You brought back alot of pleasant memories!
WTF did I just see Chuck Woolery as Superman and Rick Springfield busting out an acoustic bomb of a song set to early 1970's era "Yellow Submarine inspired" graphic animation?!! Haha this was fantastic. This showed how excited we got as kids for the new Saturday morning lineups that they had a primetime preview show to get us all even more pumped up! Thanks for finding this it's totally awesome!
I remember this show, my parents had just reconciled from a separation and we had moved into a new house. For a brief moment - everything was right. I commend your fathers craft - reaching out to other people and trying to bring them a little joy. Its meaningful.
man, Avery Schreiber is such an icon. i loved him. he was everywhere in the 70s, and always fun (and funny). Doritos and Watta Pizzaria Junior, anyone?
Those Sneak-A-Peek shows were a big deal to us. We always had to know what the new cartoon line-up was! I actually remember this episode. That Yeah -huh? Yeah-huh? Yeah- huh? guy got on my last nerve.... Xp
This is truly a classic item! a Saturday morning preview from Fall 1973,when most of the cartoon shows that Fall were mostly based on classic TV series, which was very, very rare! this ABC-TV sneak peak special, though edited, saw the debut of "SUPER FRIENDS" (1973-1986) "LASSIE'S RESCUE RANGERS","MISSION:MAGIC",and "GOOBER AND THE GHOST CHASERS",that featured animated guest appearances by some of "THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY" cast, one year before CBS's "PARTRIDGE FAMILY 2200 A.D." in Fall 1974,,and of course,"The SATURDAY SUPERSTAR MOVIE" second season opener,"LOST IN SPACE",which was recently released on the "LOST IN SPACE" BluRay set. but given the appearance of Jack Burns and Avery Schreiber,it is pretty interesting, especially since NBC used the two of these guys for their "Two In a Taxi" Fall 1966 sneak peak-pretty classic stuff,,but then,so was Saturday morning TV,back when the cartoon studios were in full bloom-not to mention seeing Batman and Superman together for the first time,in an TV special, some 45 years before their soon to be released "BATMAN V SUPERMAN:Dawn Of Justice" movie-an amazing bit of trivia!
Thank you so much for sharing this...I knew about this special but didn't actually get to see it back then. It may be 45 years later but better late than never
I was a child of the 80's and I remember these "Sneak Peak" things, too. Saturday Morning used to be awesome. Sometimes certain innovations in Cable TV suck the wonder out of things. No more Saturday Morning TV and the quality of News journalism is crap. I'm not one to fall into the "Old dork who laments the new generation/new technology schtick" but some things I just miss. "A 'Smurfs', a bowl of 'S'mores Crunch' & me". I miss those days...they had a certain...(Aussie Rick voice) "MAGIC".
I came here due to a Rick Springfield post on FB. Good memories although I never saw any Mission Magic episodes. I was surprised at how different Rick sounded back then with a full blown Aussie accent. Thanks for the memories.
This has to be for ABC 1973. Mission Magic premiered that year. Yogi, Lassie and Superfriends also premiered in 1973. Previews typically focus on the premiering shows.
This is very, very RARE!! it was aired on Sept.7th,1973 on ABC,one day before all three of the networks at that time, aired their cartoons on Sept 8,1973-and ABC began its line-up with the debut of "SUPER FRIENDS",which went-on to run, until 1985,along with "LASSIE'S RESCUE RANGERS","MISSION MAGIC",and the second season primiere of "THE SATURDAY SUPERSTAR MOVIE" opener,"LOST IN SPACE",which of course was based on Irwin Allen's TV series-this was a great period for Weekend TV!
Yes How I recall first seeing this on a Black and White TV on A Friday night in September of 1973.Yes It's also very interesting to both see and hear Rick Springfield here both before he was famous and lost his foreign accent and to top it off was even the star of that old time cartoon of Mission Magic of which I didn't get to see because it didn't play on my own local channel.Too bad that 2nd half of this is not available here on UA-cam.I hope that it will be sooner or later too ASAP & Truly.
I saw this when I was 6 and couldn't believe my eyes. The introduction of the Super Friends alone was enough to blow my mind...and I still bite down on Doritos like they will break stuff thanks to your dad
holy crap how am I just now seeing all of this retro goodness! bugs, batman, and a plethora of iconic characters not the least of which the great Avery Schreiber!
Looks like the "Three's Company" set with the step and the door placement. I notice from a comment below this was for ABC - but "Bugs" (The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show) was on CBS throughout the '70s - so I'm a bit confused.
Comedic Team Jack Burns & Avery Schreiber did their famous 'Human Computer skit' , shown here from (1:40 - 1:50), during a year a 1972 or 1973 live TV Special filmed at Canoga Park, CA. or Buena Parks's, CA. "Japanese Village Deer Park", an amusement park that lasted from the late 1960's to late 1976'. My family visited this amusement park in 1973, the same year I had visited the Park with my 4th Grade Class on a Summer field Trip. Supposedly only a 'TREE" remains from the Park somewhere around KNOTT Ave. & Beech St. I dont remember Much about "Mission: Magic" TV show..But I do recall another Magic Themed Saturday kids TV show ..called "Lidsville" starring Comedic actor Charles Neilson Reilly & Butch Patrick (from "the Munsters" fame), a few yrs. earlier.
The bit with the kid getting a glass of water gave me a chuckle. I mean, even if a person holds still, someone's bound to notice....unless the boy was assuming that bugs was a throw-rug and Rick was a cool new statue. Round little guy comes out in feetie pajamas...the kid just looks funny. I start riffing like the guys from MST3K: "*oogh* Gonna get water...thirsty...lights on...hi, Chuck Woolery in a Superman outfit...Lassie......I'll just step over Bugs Bunny here...Eeyup....tall pretty guy in white with invisible dog...oh well...water...hi, Batman....I saw nothing, just half asleep & getting water....*gulp gulp* here's the glass, Uncle....goodnight!"
I don’t remember this, must not have seen it. Fall of ‘73 Saturday cartoons I do remember though, and I remember a different preview show. Think it was on NBC, it used the premise that the new shows were being delivered by the Enterprise but it crashed somewhere...
MUSICOM PRODUCTIONS - The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show was on ABC for the 1973-1974 and 1974-1975 seasons. But yes, other than those two years, Bugs Bunny was on CBS for the rest of the 1970s.
Another example of very RARE material from ABC's Saturday Morning TV line-up from Fall 1973 as Jack Burns & Avery Schreiber introduce ABC's cartoon line-up on Friday, September 7, 1973. Burns & Schreiber previously hosted NBC's Fall 1966 TV preview, "Two In A Taxi", so seeing these two guys usher in the cartoons for Fall 1973 on ABC was historic, given that all the Saturday morning cartoons that were launched by the TV networks in Fall 1973 were all spinoffs of popular live-action shows of the 60s, as exampled with NBC's "STAR TREK" from Filmation Associates and Roddenberry's Norway Productions banner, and "LASSIE'S RESCUE RANGERS", based on ABC's SATURDAY SUPERSTAR MOVIE" segment, "Lassie And The Spirit Of Thunder Mountain" in Fall 1972, and the return of the Super Heroes since their cancelation in 1969, as ABC debuted "SUPER FRIENDS", from the ratings success of "Batman & Robin" s guest appearance on CBS's "THE NEW SCOOBY-DOO MOVIES" in Fall 1972, and "Cindy's Super Friend" segment from "THE BRADY KIDS" also in Fall 1972, but in the case of "SUPER FRIENDS" first TV season (1973-74) ABC had hired Child Psychologist Haim Ginnott as a consultant, so that the actions of the Super Friends were not violent like the previous Filmation cartoons on CBS in the late 1960s that resulted in parental backlash which led to their removal from the Saturday morning schedules by 1969.
I have always remembered this special. Used to love the Friday night previews of Saturday morning cartoon. Absolute angst trying to watch two at the same time, and then complained if one aired a couple of weeks or a month before the new cartoons. They were supposed to air the night before the cartoons premiered, I thought. LOL! While I remember this, where the kid was supposed to be asleep and all the cartoons visited, mainly remembered Rick Springfield coming in with Goober on the stiff leash with the attached hat. Thought that was so corny. I didn't remember it being Burns and Schrieber. Couldn't recall who the celebrities were. And don't recall Yogi and Bugs appearing like that either. I guess costumes just didn't register with me. I do remember Lassie appearing like that. Don't remember Superman or Batman appearing like that either. Chuck Woolery and Jack Burns all but sound the same. I remember that kid walking thru to get a glass of water and all the characters stopped moving like that. I remember him stepping over someone like he did Bugs, but again, didn't remember Bugs or Yogi (or Superman and Batman) being in it at all.
I do not recall seeing this Sneak Peek show, supposedly on Fri. nights. Then again, my parents & I would either go out for dinner & go shopping afterwards or stay home and watch the hour-long action dramas that were on Fridays: Incredible Hulk was one-that was around 77-78 and the $6million man & then the Bionic woman and other cop/crime/action type stuff. Or the parents might have a party on Fri. & when I woke up at 6am on Sat. I'd see what kind of food was left over and eat that for breakfast - plus, a bowl of cereal, if the party food didn't fill me up! Then, I'd settle in & watch Scooby-Doo, which I think, started at 7am, maybe showing again at a later-in-the-am time and there was Captain Caveman, That Yogi Bear show, which I dug for the Snagglepuss & Huckleberry Hound. And there were more too, like Space Ghost, etc, but it's been so long, I just can't remember them all. But I do recall the live action shows they'd have on Sat AMs too - like the Captain Marvel ("Shazam!")/ Isis show, where they'd have a 15 min. episode of Shazam & one of Isis - a female superhero, named after the Egyptian goddess. if I recall, there was something "Egyptian" about Isis. She had this white jump suit as her uniform and dark brown hair, done up in a bun. But I don't remember a single storyline of either one's show. Also - the Bay City Rollers had a show, as part of the Krofft Superstar Hour, wherein they'd mix it up w/a bunch of various characters from individual Krofft shows, like Lidsville, Puffnstuff (think: "Puffin' Stuff") and Haunted Hotel, Lost Island, Dr. Shrinker and more. And I also used to love watching Land of the Lost too. Most of the other Krofft shows would come on at different times, except for the Saturday Morning Superstar Hour. They'd do a bunch of sketches, etc and then the Bay City Rollers would "perform" (a la 'Lip-synching') a song. See what I mean - w/only 3 networks back then and before cable, there was surprisingly good variety on Sat. mornings.
I don't know..if you'll receive my message..Mr.Schreiber? But Thanks for sharing this rare piece of network kids tv history..in which..you appeared with your dad,Mr.Burns and Mr.Woolery.
Burns & Schreiber were no strangers to "fall preview" specials- they previously presented NBC's 1966-'67 prime-time fall preview, "Two in a Taxi" [9/4/66], as an extension of their "taxicab" routine....
I remember this from when it originally aired, and have wanted to see it again for years!! Do you have the second part? Please post if you do, or if anyone has it please let me know where it's posted! Thanks!!
"Huh?" "Yeah." "Huh?" "Yeah." "Huh?" "Yeah." Avery Schreiber did show up as Mr. Mertz on "Saved by the Bell" years later...and Jack Burns was on an episode of "The Simpsons". (Where they did that bit...) And both had connections to "The Muppet Show" in its early seasons.
Mr.Scrieber also performed on the tv version of"Story Theater","Wake,Rattle & Roll"(as the nutty scientist & inventor) and on"The Harlem Globetrotter's Popcorn Machine" as"Mr.Evil"(The program's resident villainous fink).
Awesome!!! Jack Burns replaced Don Knotts on the Andy Griffith Show and later got into that staged fight with Andy Kaufmann on Fridays! Chuck Woolery as Superman!!! The guy playing Batman looks like he is an old man! Avery Schreiber! Rick Springfield (Jessie's Girl) ! Great stuff!!! As a boy I used to look forward to these fall previews! It was what we had back in those days!
These tv specials were a must see for any kid and they kept making them for a long time. One memorable one from the 1980's was hosted by Roddy Piper. It's too bad these kind of things can't be made anymore.
It's too bad these preview specials or the weird and wacky Sid & Marty Krofft shows can't be made anymore. R.I.P. Marty Krofft (1937-2023).
Thanks Mr.Schrieber..for sharing this rare piece of ABC TV kids tv history..that was hosted by your dad(God Bless his soul)and his partner..Mr.Burns.
Josh, your dad was a genius, and he means so much to those of us who grew up at that time. His sketches were great, and I still can't eat nacho cheese Doritos without picturing him. He was (and is still since you have made his videos available) a true icon. Thanks for sharing this.

The Saturday morning sneak peak was 30 minutes, and only these 15 minutes were found!
George Carlin was Jack's partner before my dad. Two birds with one answer.
Are you related to Avery scheiber
I loved your Dad! I remember him from my childhood. Thank you for posting.
Hey Josh: I was able to tell your dad how much I enjoyed his & Jack's comedy as a kid when I worked with him on Days of our Lives in the early 90s. So glad to see this. I used to LOVE these shows! Every September all 3 networks would have one.

Thanx for sharing brings back fond memories of my childhood. Loved your Dad so much in the 70's truly a great man. R.I.P Avery Screiber.
Great stuff! Always thought Mr. Schreiber was a riot! An old friend of mine worked on one of his feature films years ago!
Thnaks for posting! You brought back alot of pleasant memories!
I lived for these fall previews. Was I the only kid that watched with pencil and paper planning my Saturday morning ritual? ❤
Avery Schreiber was great and wonderful to be a human computer. Nobody could do it like him.👌👍👍😂😎
Chuck Woolery as Superman? Lol...now, I've seen EVERYTHING!
Me too!,I have.
I thought that's who the Superman guy was...whoa!
Avery was one my favorite actors/comedians. He always makes me smile and laugh when I see him in reruns!!
And he played a semi-bad guy in the Angel gets married episode of Rockford Files! God I miss the 70s soooo much!
I remember well, Frank Ozaki!
I remember him from Days of our lives. Leopoldo Alamein.
Avery Schreiber never played"Angel Martin"on "The Rockford Files"..Mr.Stuart Margolin..played that conniving character on the detective series.
2021 Rules forever I'm Avery Schreiber Wade's Jack burns. Love Avery and he's a Chicago bear like me. 🐻👍.
Huh??
Yeah
Classic....words escape me ...only CLASSIC comes to mind...
Those Sneak-A-Peek shows were a big deal to us. We always had to know what the new cartoon line-up was!
I actually remember this episode. That Yeah -huh? Yeah-huh? Yeah- huh? guy got on my last nerve.... Xp

I miss Avery Schreiber. He was so funny, a great schlub.
Came for the Schreiber. Stayed for the show. Thanks for sharing this, man!
My era in cartoons. I was just the right age at 7 or 8. I was so excited for the Superfriends, but I loved all those shows.
Thank you so much for the Memories.
I really looked forward to these on Friday nights B4 the new season of Saturday Morning shows the next day
One of the highlights of the kids' year calendar back in the 70s. I'd never miss them, either.
I love seeing and hearing a very young and beautiful Rick with his Aussie accent! I was older and not in Sat morning cartoons when this came out..
Thank you so much for sharing this...I knew about this special but didn't actually get to see it back then. It may be 45 years later but better late than never
That bushy mustache, those fantastic Doritos commercial
Great find and I really want to see the second part if possible.
Wow, Avery was such a memorable character in everything he did.
Awesome clip... loved seeing the old cartoons from my childhood, and especially a young Rick Springfield!
Avery Schreiber was everywhere on TV when I was growing up. He was such a familiar face but I didn't find out his name til many years later.
I I've right, I miss those days.
One of my favorites😍Great entertainers at work.
I remember being so excited to find these preview specials in the TV Guide. That meant it was time for new cartoons!

Dear Lord in heaven! I saw this when I was four!
I came here due to a Rick Springfield post on FB. Good memories although I never saw any Mission Magic episodes. I was surprised at how different Rick sounded back then with a full blown Aussie accent. Thanks for the memories.
Oh, wow. I actually remember this. Never thought I'd see it, again. Thanks!
The LOVE CONNECTION GUY😂😂😂😂
avery schrieber used to be all over TV back in the 70's
Indeed!,he has!,R.I.P. Avery Schrieber!
I was such a fan of all of this, including B&S!
This has to be for ABC 1973. Mission Magic premiered that year. Yogi, Lassie and Superfriends also premiered in 1973. Previews typically focus on the premiering shows.
+Patrick McNamara At the beginning the copyright notice is 1973
This is very, very RARE!! it was aired on Sept.7th,1973 on ABC,one day before all three
of the networks at that time, aired their cartoons on Sept 8,1973-and ABC began its
line-up with the debut of "SUPER FRIENDS",which went-on to run,until 1985,along with
"LASSIE'S RESCUE RANGERS","MISSION MAGIC",and the second season primiere
of "THE SATURDAY SUPERSTAR MOVIE" opener,"LOST IN SPACE",which of course
was based on Irwin Allen's TV series-this was a great period for Weekend TV!
That Avery Schreiber...I only remember him from Doritos advertisements back in the early mid 70's, lol.
Thanks for sharing.

holy crap how am I just now seeing all of this retro goodness! bugs, batman, and a plethora of iconic characters not the least of which the great Avery Schreiber!
Rick still had his Australian accent. I think that may have been Kurtwood Smith under the Batman cowl.
Superman will be back in two 'n two.
Huh ??
I remember seen this as young boy.
Thank you for share it.

Dude - LOVED your dad's stuff when I was a kid. Great to see you've posted this.
i'd like to see the 2nd half again too.
Looks like the "Three's Company" set with the step and the door placement. I notice from a comment below this was for ABC - but "Bugs" (The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show) was on CBS throughout the '70s - so I'm a bit confused.
Bugs Bunny was on ABC during this time. The BB/RR Show (Hour)was on CBS from 1975-1985.ABC continued with a similar version until 2000.
The screen graphic at the very beginning shows American Broadcasting Co. 1973 so it is def ABC.
Bloody Hell! Im 58 years old and I just found out Rick Springfield was Australian AND that he had a Saturday morning cartoon! 😮😮😮
That's Chuck Woolery playing Superman lol.I remember watching this when it originally aired.
And Chuck Woolery as Superman.
How many of you clicked on this vid hoping to hear"Yeah-huh yeah-huh yeah-huh"?
i did. did u? huh?
Comedic Team Jack Burns & Avery Schreiber did their famous 'Human Computer skit' , shown here from (1:40 - 1:50), during a year a 1972 or 1973 live TV Special filmed at Canoga Park, CA. or Buena Parks's, CA. "Japanese Village Deer Park", an amusement park that lasted from the late 1960's to late 1976'. I actually remember watching this sneak peek when I was six years old. Too bad only half of it is here now.
I don’t remember this, must not have seen it. Fall of ‘73 Saturday cartoons I do remember though, and I remember a different preview show. Think it was on NBC, it used the premise that the new shows were being delivered by the Enterprise but it crashed somewhere...
That's Chuck Woolery as Superman. OMG!
Sounds like Alex Trebeck as Batman.
Chuck Woolery as Superman. Before Love Connection, SCRABBLE and Wheel of Fortune.
great show!
MUSICOM PRODUCTIONS - The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show was on ABC for the 1973-1974 and 1974-1975 seasons. But yes, other than those two years, Bugs Bunny was on CBS for the rest of the 1970s.
bookhouse88 The inclusion of Mission Magic times this special as being for the 1973-1974 season.
+bookhouse88
it has an American Broadcasting 1973 copyright at the start of the show.
bookhouse88 also the Bugs&Daffy h0ur was on CBS Till 1987 it went back to ABC
Now that was a funny and awesome show. Why can't TV now a days be like this?

Burns & Schreiber were no strangers to "fall preview" specials- they previously presented NBC's 1966-'67 prime-time fall preview, "Two in a Taxi" [9/4/66], as an extension of their "taxicab" routine....
super rare. thanks.
Cool thanks for the cool time machine fun:)
I remember this from when it originally aired, and have wanted to see it again for years!! Do you have the second part? Please post if you do, or if anyone has it please let me know where it's posted! Thanks!!
That was just amazing! I grew up with a lot of these characters...the real good old days. And Rick...how cute was he?
Chuck Woolery as Superman, I vaguely remember this
Wow! Memories.
a side note..just watched a saturday movie of the week ( 1971 ) called escape that also has Avery Schreiber..very good stuff indeed
Jack Burns had to have influenced the "Cliff the postman" character on "Cheers".
In 1973, I was 6 and half years old and they sure don't make those TV shows cartoons like they used to.
I do remember that guy in the mustache was in a lot of Doritos commercials back then.
Chuck Woolery as Superman! Chuck was on "New Zoo Revue" too, playing an old man character.
"Huh?" "Yeah." "Huh?" "Yeah." "Huh?" "Yeah."
Avery Schreiber did show up as Mr. Mertz on "Saved by the Bell" years later...and Jack Burns was on an episode of "The Simpsons". (Where they did that bit...)
And both had connections to "The Muppet Show" in its early seasons.
Mr.Scrieber also performed on the tv version of"Story Theater","Wake,Rattle & Roll"(as the nutty scientist & inventor) and on"The Harlem Globetrotter's Popcorn Machine" as"Mr.Evil"(The program's resident villainous fink).
And Jack played Deputy Warren for a few episodes
I remember Jack Burns from Fridays.
R.I.P Avery Schreiber (1935 - 2002)
LOL... Chuck Woolery as Superman.
I was always a big fan of the Double D Nose because 'Thou Shalt Rock"
A few years after the guys did "Two in a Taxi" for NBC's 1966-1967 Fall line up :)
6:23 is the meme i've been looking for. This is for you Tom
Was that a young Chuck Woolery playing "Superman"?
What a find!
THIS IS AWESOME -- and positively cheesy. but i really enjoyed it! :)
I was thinking "corny", but "cheesy" works too.
Remember the cartoon dr.shrinker!
