@GENXPERIENCE reruns can never replace the Saturday morning cartoon experience. Saturday mornings were more than just the cartoons, we had the toy company commercials with all the big brands competing against each other with great toy advertising. Cereal commercials, Mcdonalds hamburgers advertising and School House Rock! It was a time in history that can never be duplicated by the cartoons alone. We did not know at the time that we were living through a very historical moment.

Some of the Chan Clan kids and Charlie Chan were voiced by actual Asian American performers with ace detective Charlie Chan being voiced by familiar actor Keye Luke (blind Master Po in the David Carradine Kung Fu series) and the oldest son Henry was played by Robert Ito of the Quincy M.E. series. The kids did not practice martial arts or work as servants for a positive change than the past cartoon portrayals of Asian characters.

Because they didn’t really have any competition back then. Up until the 1980’s, H&B had 80% percent of the cartoon viewership. It’s why they were pumping out so many shows during the 70’s; hence all the clones. Even though most of their 70’s shows only lasted a single season( except wait till your father gets home ), it didn’t really matter because H&B was such a monopoly that they had to rip off themselves, because they were all there was

Interesting alternate Cartoon series attempts back then at Scooby Doo. Herculoids, a cool series. I haven't gotten a chance to see some of these yet. Thanks. Scooby Doo's horror theme remained consistent for that franchise thankfully after all the series made, in that they most times didn't span out into just regular crimes or non-horror mysteries.

Great rundown on the original Scooby Doo series and the following cartoons patterned after them. Most I remember, but some, like Fangface, I don't. Interesting how the Scooby Doo characters were copied in the other shows, not only in personality, but looks, such as Shaggy and Tinker. Some, like Jabberjaw, I thought were just too silly. Have you thought of doing a series about animated shows from the mid to late 1960s. Some of those have been released on DVD, but some haven't, like Hot Wheels. Sky Hawks, and The Cattanooga Cats.

In the UK (IIRC) we only got Fangface, New Shmoo, Captain Caveman (possibly the best and the one that entered the cultural zeitgeist), Goober and the Ghost Chasers, The Funky Phantom and Jabberjaw and only CC was run on repeatedly over the next decade or so.
I like the titles to Butch Cassidy, the animation and art seems a step up from other show intros of the time, some rotoscoping going on?
And did I imagine a number of crossovers at the time? I'm sure Scooby met the team from Goobers at one point.

    • @GENXPERIENCE
      @GENXPERIENCE  10 місяців тому +2

Love that you mentioned Rotoscoping, as I didn't have time...but it is such a unique technique used during the time and through the very early 80s. Yes, the opening Credits to BOTH Butch and Josie used Rotoscoping for when the band plays. It gives that fluid realistic human motion that I think made us buy into it more. Scooby did meet SPeed Buggy and more recently Funky, not sure about Goober (but quite possible) Thanks for the comment.

Clue Club has really grown on me over the years...mainly because Woofer and Wimper were the comic relief, and I kinda sorta maybe had a bit of a thing for Dottie.
Dottie is my absolute favorite in Clue Club because she's sassy and spunky, but the only thing they really did wrong in the show is have the older kids act as jerks to Dottie, but its understandable, because in that line of work, you make enemies, so that was their way of protecting Dottie.

Most guys would probably go for Pepper, but she doesn't stand out like Dottie.
CC in Live Action would be interesting...especially if they get Dottie's voice actor Tara Talboy involved, since David Joliffe(Larry) and Patricia Stitch(Pepper are older now.
The only thing I'd really change is instead of Larry, Pepper, and D. D. act like jerks to Dottie is have them have a more heart to heart on why they don't want her on the field with them, because that actually could have backfired on them in a few ways.@@GENXPERIENCE

Thank you so much for watching and enjoying. I'm still finding my place here, but glad you shared. The FONZ and those TV Based Cartoons I have done in another video, so please watch. But yeah, I think the 80s had plenty more. All the ones you named, wonderful entries and classics for each of us. Thank you

Hello there! I just discovered your channel. Great job on analyzing all these cartoons. One of my friends once told me that, in his opinion at least, the cartoon Meatballs & Spaghetti from the early 1980s was also a late addition to the emulators of Scooby-Doo. Meatballs & Spaghetti were a husband-and-wife team (matching their names, a big rotund long-haired guy and his hot blond thin wife) who were in a touring rock band with a dog playing the drums. The dog acted as the comic relief character in most episodes. Their vehicle was a mobile home, or RV, as they say, in which they travelled from town to town. The show was in re-runs several times in the 1990s and into the '00s in my area. It used the rock band trope and had a music video once per episode much like Jem had later.

Really? If this is ringing a bell, I think I am simply making it up in my head, because I can't place this. Alright, I am looking it up, just for me, so I too can be in the know. Thank you for watching, and more importantly adding to my knowledge with something new.

@@GENXPERIENCE Thank you very much, and it's nice to be of assistance. Trust me, Meatballs & Spaghetti was very real... (apart from being among my favorite dishes growing up)

The flute with the reel to reel echo was the signature sound of the pussycats.

Awesome topic 😎 I love Scooby-Doo and I am big fan of Captain Caveman and Funky Phantom too but definitely I agree with you that Clue Club is the best "clone" of Scooby concept 😉

They are all worthy of course, but yeah, CC could have been Live Action.

I watched most of these religiously when they were originally on. But I have no memory of Clue Club. So for me . . .
    Captain Caaaaaavemaaaaaan!

13:00 Don't you also recognize how Puggsy and Sherman Fangsworth both look like the two 1950's Bowery Boys Slip Mahoney and Horace Debussy 'Sach' Jones?

Although Puggsy as a Bowery Boy did make it in the original cut, I decided to edit it out for the final. I have a different show about cartoons from classic Hollywood in the future.

And who says we can't have Saturday mornings anymore? Just buy some DVDs of your favorite cartoons and watch them on Saturday mornings.

Clue Club was the bomb, I'm glad you also noticed the similarity of dogs to Aristocats Napoleon and Lafayette (those two stole the show from the cats).
