I am Haitian so i'm biased by liking the Haiti one more. rewatching this, I remembered what I felt hearing this song for the first time. I am proud to be haitian and with everything that's going on in haiti, this songs brings back chills to me.
I love them both but I have to say kudos to who put Haiti together there are a larger genera of musicians and singers and age groups that they both make me cry
I love both!!! I love how much Americans come together in times off need! WE NEED TO MAKE ONE FOR US TO COME BACK TOGETHER IN AMERICA AND WE REMEBER WE ARE ALL IN IT TOGETHER! ALWAYS!
Your reaction was amazing. I grew up with the artists in the first one so I like that one 100 times more. The one for Haiti has some good moments but it seems more commercialized to me and I just prefer things old school! But having Michael in the new one was great because of all the people in both versions he still is the one who stands out to me as the one with the most raw talent.
I love how they cut in clips of Michael. And you two probably relate to this version because you recognize more artists maybe. I'm old, so I knew 2/3 of this one, but everyone in the Africa version. Both are amazing & Quincy Jones told them all to leave their egos at the door, for both versions. The 'star' of this show was the benefit itself.
I think it’s great they made a golden era song renewed for Haiti’s I think that is great and amazing and why we stop at a song and don’t continue to do more in the eyes of the public I’ll never truly understand. But which version is incomparable. First is golden. The geniuses who made it and put it together can never be recreated. Phonically sound, perfect in harmony and lyrically genius is the first one. But love that Haitis is catching love. We should be doing this for all impoverished nations. All credit to Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson and Quincy “Q” Jones.
ya was good to see artists in 2010 come together and do a remix of the the 80s version,,, sad thing is the country is no where near as united as we were back then,,, was nice to see NIP in there as well as many actors was involved in this one,, Jeff Bridges, Vin Diesel , ect,,,
Gotta mention this 'fore I miss my chance; I been LOVE-IN'💖 that hair Jai's rocking lately❣️ Hopefully my gal's taking me for color tonight and one of us lol finds it. 💯😏😉
I thought he did great, though😂 and I took her face more as trying to understand what he was saying. Half of his lyrics weren't in English so to me it looked like she was trying to understand what she was hearing😂😂
at 11:29 there was a spirit orb going down from the top of the screen. i know that wasn't dust XD you guys might have a haunted house or a family visitor who passed.
Thank you guys so much. I've been waiting and asking for one of these. Hopefully you can do the Michael Jackson - Heal the World 1993 Superbowl Halftime Show.
It always makes me laugh to look at just how different Bieber and Miley looked back then. Man, they were still kids. Young folks nowadays definitely wouldn't even recognize them.
This was good and the reason was definitely important. I just like the first one it just flowed better. But they all did a great thing to come together and put differences aside. Once again this should be the theme song for America today but the version from 85 keep it original
Both versions are great in their own ways and incredible how many talented artists joined to do it. It is hard to believe it has been 10 years since Haiti had that earthquake and then a year later Japan got hit by earthquake and tsunami. I do wish this song was played more, so much hate has been going on, there is still good it just feels like people are seeing only the bad and not the good.
Lil Wayne is the only person they put the auto tune on. I thought that was Akon rather than Kanye! I think Kanye was in the red flannel shirt but I’ll trust y’all’s eyes over mine!! I somehow have never heard this. I loved it! I love how this is becoming tradition for helping others!!
The auto tune was on T-Pain. Not Lil Wayne. And that was Akon. I think they saw Kanye singing in the group when they paused to mention him. During Akons part.
There were quite a few artist in this one that were auto tune. Bieber's intro was auto tuned.. so was Miley's. Both versions were great but original was better in my opinion. The voices in the room on the first one just can't be touched.
I would have said Africa bc I was 5 yo when it came out and I rewatched the (cough) VHS tape (cough) ON REPEAT. I was a nay sayer when Haiti came out bc I thought there’s no way they can top the OG! But now rewatching both there’s a HUGE appreciation for the two equally - so I’m with y’all and say BOTH!!!
I love both of them in their own ways. Im a bigger fan of the original group of artists, and I have a soft spot for East Africa (first one being for the famine in Ethiopia). Plus it’s the original. With this one I liked the expanded instrumentation… I love LOVE that they included the original film of Michael Jackson and then juxtaposed it with Janet. That actually made me cry the first time I saw this. I really enjoyed the rap pieces - I like rap anyway, it made the song longer so it wasn’t over so quickly 😆 and the lyrics specifically written for the earthquake in Haiti…. I liked the footage…. Featuring Wyclef Jean was beautiful!
1st of all... reactions are my jam & you guys (& frankensteins lab) are my top picks! Now, I want to say the 1st one so bad bc it IS the Original & 2 wouldn't be here without 1. But I can't do it! I just love the 2nd one so much! I just feel like the voices were better (which feels blasphemous just saying that) & the rap (all rappers I grew up on btw) added so much for me. I got WAY more excited than an adult should get over a video when I saw you all were reacting to this!
OMG... I'm a child of the 80's.. I thought this was the Quincy Jones version with the artists from back in the day... I just started watching... and yes i recognized Bieber... but I'm scared to keep watching because I don't think I''ll know anyone... Take me back to Michael
I don't know how to take this... I love that they keep going back to Michael. But on the other side I'm thinking.. there's no one out today that can compare. Truly I just love the orignal.. Michael was still alive and it was EXCELLENCE.
I don't think you can compare them. The original was perfect for that time and stood the test of time. To remake it in 2010 for Haiti, it makes sense to add something a little bit different or extra into it, to distinct it from the original. I think Michael would have approved and loved the 2010 version.
I'm going to be completely honest, not negative, honest. I have to question the motives of quite a bit of the artists in this version. I know for a fact that a few artists snubbed it back in 85 due to the fact they couldn't check their egos at the door. They were trying to make it about them and not about the starving people dying in Africa. I see quite a few in there that were very big when it originally came out yet they didn't participate. Which leaves me to believe that they saw how monumental USA for Africa became staying top of the billboard charts for periods that were unprecedented. Every artist in the original were top of the charts artists at the time they did the song and they were good to just be in the background and the solos were small. LEGENDS! Paul Simon from Simon and Garfunkel, Diana Ross, Kenny Rogers, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, James Ingram, Bruce Springsteen, Dionne Warrick, Willie Nelson, Kenny Loggins (Footloose, Danger Zone, etc) Steve Perry (lead singer from Journey. It's un-American to not know Journey), Daryl Hall from Hall and Oats, Huey Lewis (he was definitely at his peak that year after doing the song Power of Love and Back in Time from the Back to the Future soundtrack), Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings, Cyndi Lauper (Girls Just Want to Have Fun, also topping the charts), Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson (goes without saying) and Jermaine Jackson was there, The Pointer Sisters, Smoky Robinson, Lindsey Buckingham (from Fleetwood Mac), Sheila E, Bette Midler, etc.. they raised millions for the starvation problem in Africa. What was happening there wasn't due to a natural disaster it was just poverty and death. Had they made a video back then and showed children on the verge of death due to starvation and living in unimaginable conditions it would've ripped your soul apart to see while listening to these amazing artists sing that song. It can't be duplicated. Period! I can appreciate what they were doing for the people of Haiti but I also have a serious mistrust of these organizations today. They've never received any of what they should've had all monies gone straight to them but it didn't. Greed is horrible today. It doesn't feel genuine to me. I feel some of them are probably very serious about wanting to help the people of Haiti and I feel very strongly that there's quite a few with an agenda that had absolutely nothing to do with charity. They saw what the original became and kicked themselves for not participating. Prince was the worst! His ego was out of control.
any artist you would want to see that were not in it? great view.. and have to agree with @Tracey Raffle - the second one might not exist without the first one.. so to me it goes to the original..
I love the Africa one but there are actually even more than these 2. Just look up we are the world and you will find 2 to 3 more and 1 was made just in the last couple of years.
I remember this songs first broadcast on MTV in the early 80s it's about the AIDS pandemic in Africa. All the sale of this song went to benefit South Africa. This wasn't the original one. Get to the original with Michael Jackson Bob Dillon Paul Simon Cindy Lauper Peabo Bryson Donna Summers Kenny Rogers Stevie Wonder Bruce Springsteen and the real Legends of music. This version has nothing on the original version.
I LOVE Celine for Lauper here. I also love that we get the footage of Dion watching for her cues. Also shoutout to Orianthi the prodigy.
I love both versions, but the second one probably wouldn't exist without the first one :)
Jai love that hair color on u absolutely beautiful as always no matter the hair color ur beautiful! Love,Light & Blessings to you,Half & ur family.
Original is my favorite has the legends . both for good cause and shows how awesome America is when we are united for common good of humanity
I am Haitian so i'm biased by liking the Haiti one more. rewatching this, I remembered what I felt hearing this song for the first time. I am proud to be haitian and with everything that's going on in haiti, this songs brings back chills to me.
I just played WE ARE THE WORLD for two of my grandkids maybe a month ago. Told them about the hands across America
I love the first one! The legends!
I love them both but I have to say kudos to who put Haiti together there are a larger genera of musicians and singers and age groups that they both make me cry
In complete agreement.
Same. I cry when I hear either one. For some reason, as soon as Lil Wayne's part hits, that's when the tears start. I don't know why. Lol
@@9zero7four5 same here
I love both!!! I love how much Americans come together in times off need! WE NEED TO MAKE ONE FOR US TO COME BACK TOGETHER IN AMERICA AND WE REMEBER WE ARE ALL IN IT TOGETHER! ALWAYS!
It’s bad luck to take your tree down before New Year’s day!! I’m right there with ya. My tree is still up. I’m taking it down on Saturday!!
I knew you would love this
Love, love, LOVE the hair color!
Mad respect to this version and the cause❤, but I like the first more. Probably because it's from my childhood.❤
Ty for a positive start to this new year

I love them both...they both give us the best of the best for our times
Love them both. Both helped a lot of people 🙂
Great reaction! I love how you just react by not making unnecessary pauses of the song!
I know y’all see nipsey behind snoop throwing up the set🤣🤣 #ripnipsey💙🕊️
Omg!! Thank u for doing it. Love you guys!!

I love this song. Greetings from Brazil.

I love both of them
Mannnn LOOK! The song is good, but ain’t no way Wyclef Jean thought he ate that 😂😂😂😂😂😂 And the way she stopped vibing, she knew he was dead wrong 🤣🤣🤣
I thought he did great, though😂 and I took her face more as trying to understand what he was saying. Half of his lyrics weren't in English so to me it looked like she was trying to understand what she was hearing😂😂
Both are chilling, Different era,actors,too,,❤❤❤❤❤
It's not Kanye that's Akon 😂❤
They were both there 😅
Just saw you did, gonna watch that next. ALWAYS makes me 😭
You should react to the spanish version of we are the world ; Somos el mundo! That version is great too! 😊

Love this they are famous diffent voices different types music. Come together for a common bond. # LOVE.
Y'all keep it real. I'm Mexican
I love it .. Keep it going
This was good and the reason was definitely important. I just like the first one it just flowed better. But they all did a great thing to come together and put differences aside. Once again this should be the theme song for America today but the version from 85 keep it original
I love you guys so very much ❤️ 💗 💛
As far as the tree ! You got till the 3rd lol . Great reaction!

I do wish this song was played more, so much hate has been going on, there is still good it just feels like people are seeing only the bad and not the good.
Yo I love the show
I thought the original was better musically and connection to the song however this one was with more relevant artists today so it made it cool too.
I never heard of this but I enjoyed it as much as the 1st
Have ya’ll done a reaction to the original? If not, would LOVE to see that!!!
They had
Celine dion ❤
Looking good Jai.
All the musicians got PAID from the donated funds.
There have been many celebrity fund raisers to end poverty. Name one that made a difference?
always the original

You guys should react to the Pentatonix '90s medley. That'd be lit.
Try the one Canada 🇨🇦 did for Tahiti it another great song
The original We are the world is even better !!!!
the guy in white shirt isnt kanye, It's AKON.
I like both of them too..

The fact that Michael Jackson is even in this one hit harder back then, because he had Just died in 2009, and this came out in 2010.
i love both, each to their own generation...
That song cost more than the aid which is insane
I'll always love the Africa version one better. But I do like this one also.
