you know what? i LOVE your choice of fabric! it really sets off your bubbly personality! adorable! you go gurl! you inspire me!!! it's fun, quirky and one of a kind! i vibe to that fabulousness!!!
Thank you for taking us along on your inspirational sewing journey of 2023! Happy 2024 , may you have many beautiful garments to share at the end again. Oh and best regards to grandma and her wealth of sewing knowledge too.
Hey Toni I just found your channel and I love it. I can’t wait to get caught up on all your videos. I live in a small west Texas town but am getting ready to move to north texas between Abilene and Fort Worth. I learned to sew as a teenager and then stopped for about 25 years and then started back up a few years ago. I hope after this move life with slow down a bit so I can sew more.
Hi Sherry! I’m happy you found my channel too❤️ Where are you in West Texas? My boyfriend and I just bought a place in Fort Davis! I hope you’ll have more time to sew too.
Here are my thoughts 🙂 when you swap out the fruit skirt try the lime green on the inside panel. I think that’s how that skirt worked. So that the majority of what you see is the fruit fabric. Then either your cocoon dress I think that would also look beautiful made up in a floppy silk (silk satin maybe).
I think it’s my favorite make from 2023. Plus I always get compliments when I wear it 😉 People are always shocked when I say “thanks, I made it”. Best feeling ever!
My favorites were the short skirt, which made you look young, and the pink top with the seam down the middle and wide sleeves. Your video reminded me that I want to make that pattern again.
I ended up flipping the hole on the waistband to the other side and putting the lavender panel underneath. It peaks out a little bit but it looks much better. Plus that was an easier fix than remaking the skirt!
I absolutely love your fabric choices! So bright, so interesting and so fun! I had a ton of favorites, but that killer circle skirt looks amazing on you! Love the black fabric from Amazon and the Japanese shift!
Your welcome! The cocoon dress is the only pattern I’ve used and the neck facing was a little small for some reason. I ended up tracing the pattern neckline to make a facing that fit. I love Kaffe too!
I am in love with the cape coat! I tend to throw on a cape until it gets super cold (it's about -30 right now...well beyond cape territory) and wasn't sure I ever wanted to mess with making a coat, but that pattern looks like one I could handle, minus the herringbone. I thought the black linen dress looked a bit plain, but then when you modeled it suddenly it all made sense and I fell in love with the simple lines of it.
This was my first cape ever and I love it. The herringbone wasn’t too bad, but I could have used another half yard so I didn’t have to skimp on the belt. I felt the same way about the black dress when I finished sewing it. Then I put it on and liked it much better. ❤️
The cape is my favorite though there are many of your makes that I like. And yes, I think replacing that heavier linen piece on your twirly skirt is a good idea. And please, let’s not go too cold here in our Texas winter! Been there, done that and had the broken pipes to prove it.
Just cold enough to wear my cape 😉 50s would be good. But I agree no freezing and losing the power grid. That’s WAY too cold. Swapping out that front panel is in the list of projects to remake in 2024!
Thank you. I love color! I can’t imagine sewing with boring beige fabric 🤣 I agree, the blue needs to go! Not sure what I was thinking when I put those fabrics together.
Lovely cape jacket. Maybe it's not cold in south Texas but I can guarantee it's cold in north Texas where I am. Almost 1 in the afternoon and it's barely 50 degrees. Tonight we drop to freezing. I hope 2024 is a productive year as well for you.
Thanks Robin! We are in the high 50s today. The temps have dropped since I recorded the video-thankfully! I’m hoping they stay low enough so I can wear my cape to work on Friday 😍
Fabulous....Loved the range of fabrics that you used for the different items you sewed. My favs were the winter cloak, pink dress and the full skirt. I was wondering if you would be able to do a sewing tutorial? Its a New Look pattern 6263. I have made a mock up of Dress B without a zip with cheap material and felt too apprehensive to cut up my material without the help of a tutorial. I would be very appreciative for your assistance. Thanks so much Alison (Australia)
Thanks for watching Alison. I’m totally open to doing a tutorial with that pattern since it’s something I would wear and I’ve got plenty of fabric that would work for that design. The funny thing is that I’m working on a video for sewing plans in 2024 and I was thinking about asking viewer what they wanted to see. So thanks in advance for your suggestion!
Really love your prints! The African wax print skirt looks great. About the beige pullover top, maybe next time try finishing the hem using a double needle.
Regarding mess-ups😢 In my early years sewing, I always thought the error was my sewing inexperience. I have recently had patterns and I'm sure they were not tested. Now if I'm in doubt I make half a mock-up, usually helps.
The hanky skirt is pretty and the fabric is beautiful but I agree that the stripe fabric is too dominant. Is it possible to wrap it in the other direction so the stripes are only peak out from under the pretty patterned fabric?
Unfortunately it’s not. That front panel is a different shape. I think the only way to make it better is to use the lime green fabric and recut a panel of the fruit fabric as the top layer.
The black linen dress and the cape are my favorites. Lots of lovely makes though. Have you ever used SewkeysE double sided stay tape on hems? The woven kind can be used on knit hems if they are loose such as the top you made. It resolves the wavy issue nicely and adds a slight bit of weight.
I haven’t tried that hem tape-thanks for the suggestion. I’ll try it out. It sounds very helpful! So far the black linen dress and cape are the winners for last year. Thanks for watching ☺️
I love all the makes. The construction is great and I say this with great kindness…. You’re too beautiful to hide yourself in these shapeless, boxy pieces.
I have the Everyday Style book and have tried the Esme top and Owyn shorts. The shorts were a bit tight around my thighs and low at the back waist but, with modifications, I have a go-to shorts pattern. I made the Esme top with calico and couldn’t even get into it, it was so tight! I have no idea what happened with the sizing.
I’m glad to know it’s not just me. That book needs to come with a disclaimer!! I know she’s a fabric designer and had a pattern maker help with the designs but they still don’t work.
I liked too many of your makes to pick just one. I will be making my mom a fleece jacket thanks to the ones you’ve made for your grandma. Interestingly enough I set aside my S1318 struggling with the band. I have it on my to finish list for 2024
Aww so glad to know you are making a fleece jacket for your mom! She will love it. The full length separating zipper is so easy to put in compared to the half zip from the pattern.
I just found your channel… LOVE. You present so well ! I’m a very new clothing sewer, do you have a video on how to use the same pattern for many sizes ? thanks 🙏🏼
Thank you for watching and welcome. I don’t have any videos for using patterns for multiple sizes. If you are using the same pattern for costumes or bridesmaid dresses, I’d start with the biggest size and cut and mark as needed and then repeat for each size as you cut it smaller. But , if you just want to save the patterns for further use in other sizes then I’d recommend tracing off the pattern in the size that you need and then that way you can reuse for other sizes. If that doesn’t answer your question, let me know ☺️
I agree about the Lotta book. I had bought that book several years ago and made a few things, which I never wear. The sizing was ok but the clothes are just shapeless and frumpy. I really like patterns by Atélier Scämmit-do you know that company? It’s French and they have UA-cams (in French). The instructions are in both English and French on the patterns. I also like Merchant and Mills patterns and made several of the Eve Trousers, which turned out well, though the technique with the zipper was confusing. My husband helped me though-he sews better than I do!
I am new to your videos and have just subscribed. I also like the Merchant and Mills patterns. I made the Landgate twice and love it. The Camber Tee is in multiple fabrics in my closet and the Camber in dress length is in plaid flannel for those cold winter days here in Canada. I also made the Harlene Overalls and sized down.
I would use the lime green fabric as a panel and switch panels so that the citrus fabric is on top. You'd probably want to switch out the band/ties to lime green or citrus print fabric since you said the skirt is too tight. Unless you meant remaking the entire skirt in a larger size? I really like your cape coat and your Frida dress.
I think I would use the blue stripe panel to cover the bottom over your tummy area and replace it with the first panel that matches the rest of your fabric….if that’s possible. Maybe make them a little bigger with the new material to add a bit of width?
Thank you for watching! Here is the link for the Frida fabric: Indian Hand-Block Printed Jaipuri Print Tropical Paisley Floral Ethnic Sanganer Kurti Print Cotton Fabric (Black Frida Kahlo, 5 Yards) a.co/d/gBWNkmw
I have had some success with jansdotter patterns. I have the same book and made fhe eseme top and the same dress you made. Nith worked pretty well for me but the skirt and pants were a complete bust for me. I even tried to make them bigger but that made them worse...
Good morning from Maryland. I just found your channel as well and couldn't hit the subscribe button fast enough. Thank you!!!! Great content. My question is for the Simplicity jacket. You mentioned you were having a bit of trouble with the facing. Were you able to remedy it and if so, how? Oh, and can you come and organize my fabric?
Hi there! Thanks for subscribing and welcome ☺️ with the simplicity jacket I guess technically it’s the neckband I’m having trouble getting it lined up with the shoulder seams and making it fit around the jacket smoothly. It’s still a work in progress. Sometimes I hang things up for a while and come back to them with fresh eyes. I tend to figure things out the second go ‘round. While it would be so much fun to hang out and organize with you, I’m still working on my own fabric stash 🤣
Leo 9 Textiles is located in Smithville Texas. They do have a website www.leo9textiles.com with some of their fabrics listed. It’s easier to navigate on desktop than mobile. Thanks for watching!
Where did you get the fabric in the top (in the beginning of the video that has hexagon shapes in it and has white facings around the arms and neck? I luv this fabric! Pleas tell me where you got it from! Tx!
I bought it at the Texas Quilt museum in La Grange, TX. They have a much of beautiful fabrics in 1 yard cuts. This particular print isn’t available anymore, but they do have an online shop you can check out!
Can you not just tie the wrap skirt the other way?‽? Wow that black dress was gorgeous 😍. Looked so much better on, then the hanger. I love all the patterns, but quilting cotton and wax cotton don't always have the best drape unfortunately.
I couldn’t tie the wrap skirt the other way as it was originally made. I ended up taking apart the waistband to it would tie the other way instead of remaking it with another fabric. Much easier solution and it still looks good. I love the Farrow dress pattern that I used for the black dress. It’s my go to fancy day dress. I’m probably going to make it again since it’s so comfortable!
I see what you mean about the apron look on the skirt, even though I do love the two fabrics together. I think its because of the waistband being the solid fabric too, so it looks like apron ties. I think if you made the opposite pannel of the same solid fabric, the apron look would go away. I'm not sure it would make it look better if you used the new fabric, because the original solid has a more boho look to it than the new solid, which matches the skirt style better and the apron shape would still be there. Leaving the original solid waistband might help, or it might just look like you ran out of fabric. I think maybe the waistband should be from the print if you want just one panel from a solid. Maybe draw your options out and see how it would look? I have a question for you that's totally unrelated. I thrifted an entire bolt of mustard coloured fleece sweatshirting (for $10 Canadian), which I love, but the problem is, it has no stretch at all. Do you have any suggestions of what I could make from it? Could I just use a pattern that calls for something like corduroy or denim and treat it like a heavier woven? Mustard is one of my best colours and I treat it as a neutral and I have about 12 yards of it. So I'm open to any patterns or suggestions.
I might have to draw it out as you suggested! I think you’re totally right about the waistband and ties adding to the apron effect. Re: the non-stretchy fleece you bought- I’d totally treat it like a wool felt or corduroy and find a pattern that would work for one of those fabrics. Good luck ☺️
I get the idea of making a muslin, but for quick, easy sewing, who has the time? And you don’t need to, right? I’m lucky if I get the pattern cut out with the final fabric. Now if you’re using expensive fabric for clothing that is more body hugging and/or tailored, then going to the trouble to do a muslin makes sense.
Love all the items And the fabric from cocoon dress and hanky skirt BUT hanky skirt is not working,…cocoon dress, is just too “out there” for me, maybe redo as a top? I have / made the Simplicity pattern but never thought to do it in a print, Thanks for the inspiration! Your energy is terrific! Keep on stitching girl!
I changed moved the opening on the skirt to the other side of the waistband, so now the striped fabric is under the fruit print. It looks much better. I only wear the cocoon dress to the art museum 🤣 it is out there for daily wear. I’m so happy to hear you’re inspired after seeing my video. Thanks for watching!
@@SewSewLounge I have the Japanese book and totally forgot about it. I am going to make the cocoon dress . I may add a panel of pleats down the back to make it more poofy. Thanks for reminding me of this dress :)
you know what? i LOVE your choice of fabric! it really sets off your bubbly personality! adorable! you go gurl! you inspire me!!! it's fun, quirky and one of a kind! i vibe to that fabulousness!!!
Thanks Dottie! And thank you for all the comments. I’m so happy to hear that I inspire you ❤️
yeah sweetie, i agree with you on that hanky skirt. seam rip the stripe fabric out! it won't play! the fun print is adorable! do it with the green!
You’re too funny Dottie 😂 I think I’ll try swapping the pieces across the front and use the lime green which makes the skirt pop!
Grandma looked ADORABLE IN HER JACKET!! SO PRETTY! LOVE IT!!
I will show her your comment. I had to take her jackets back after I filmed because she wanted to wear them.
Okay the cape slays. You need to make another one out of a light crepe so that you can wear it more!
Thank you for the awesome suggestion!! Now I have a good reason to buy more fabric 🤣
I just found your channel. I really enjoyed your presentation of what you made in 2023!
Aww thank you!! ❤️
Love love love the black linen dress on you. And the coral necklace is fantastic.
Aww thank you. I got the necklace at Zara and didn’t have anything that properly showed it off. I made the dress to go with it 🤣
Your love of pattern and color is so very apparent when looking at the whole year’s makes. Bravo! A lot of beautiful garments to show time well spent!
Thanks Betty! I do love color and print. I like to sew things that I can’t find in stores. Thanks for watching ☺️
My favorite is the black linen dress. Happy New Year! Cheers to fantastic sewing adventures in 2024. 🥂🎆
I like it too, it’s such classic style. Thanks for watching. Happy New Year to you too 🎉
I love the cape coat! My fave! Happy New Year 😊
that cape coat is killer! i love it too! so fun to wear!!!
Thanks Karen. It was cold enough this morning and I got to wear it to church.
I admire your sense of style. Fabrics are beautiful. Your cacoon dress is so cute. My favorite is the black linen. Well done!
Thank you! I just can’t resist a colorful printed fabric 😍
The wool cape is stunning! ❤❤
Thank you! It’s one of my favorite pieces. I wish I could wear it more often but it never gets cold for very long in Texas.
I love the coat!! So gorgeous, all your makes are beautiful, even the ones you're not too crazy about
Aww thank you! I love most of the things I made last year too ❤️
Love those fleece jackets!
So does Grandma!! 😉

Aww thanks Cynthia! I’m hoping to make more videos with Grandma in 2024. She has to teach me how to make bound button holes!
I absolutely love your pinky-purple cape!
It’s a great cape. I wish I could wear it more often but it rarely gets cold in Houston.
Cape coat and blk dress are my favorite ... Thanks for recap
Glad you like them! Thanks so much for watching ☺️
That coat is stellar! your choice of fabric and patterns is fun!
Aww thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed my video ❤️
Yes, swap the lime green for the other end panel, so that the citrus print is in the front. Will look great!
Thank you! That seems to be the general consensus. Fingers crossed it works.

Aww thank you! I made the black dress in October and I’m hoping to get more wear out of it this spring and summer. Happy New Year to you too 🎉
Here are my thoughts 🙂 when you swap out the fruit skirt try the lime green on the inside panel. I think that’s how that skirt worked. So that the majority of what you see is the fruit fabric. Great idea!! I think there needs to me more fruit showing too. The cocoon dress would also work a in silk. That would make it super comfortable ❤️

The cape coat is a stunner!

I love them all. Your fabric choices are beautiful and full of color. I love it.
Thank you so much! I love color. I just don’t see the point of sewing with drab fabric. Color makes me feel alive
I loved grandma’s cardinal jacket!
Thanks! She loves it too. When she opened it at Christmas she said she was hoping for another fleece jacket.
I agree that Fasset’s prints are focus-worthy. Like that dress and the black linen with pockets.
The black dress is a Grainline studio pattern. I’m really happy with the way it turned out ❤️

On the skirt, I would like the lime color for that panel that is now lavender. I want to see what you decide.

@@cjhines726 thank you!! I really love my fabric choices ❤️ I’m glad that you like them too.
I love your fabric choices…great prints and colors. Where is leonine? Is it an online shop?
@SewSewLounge OK, thanks. I'll do that. I've found a couple of cute coats that might work well.
@@sew_So_beautiful I think a coat would be super cute! And mustard will really pop during these dreary winter months.
I’m fortunate that comercial patterns generally fit me, so I don’t usually make muslins. Because you’re right, who has time!
Each to her own! 😆
@@SomeBuddy777 I actually wish the cocoon dress had more volume so it would be even more out there 😉
@@SewSewLounge I have the Japanese book and totally forgot about it. I am going to make the cocoon dress . I may add a panel of pleats down the back to make it more poofy. Thanks for reminding me of this dress :)
I love my cocoon dress! I wish I would have made it in the bigger size and had more volume-- NEXT TIME!!
Blouse and my trouble is the back shoulder area and arm hole are to tight.
That is a challenge!
The skirt with the mauve and yellow with orange doesn’t go together. I think it’s probably the colours that make it look badly.
The fruit skirt? It looks better in person as it’s not mauve
Cannot understand why People who are suppose to sew do not measure their patterns and do not take their garments who fit them perfectly as models.😅
It’s surprisingly hard to measure yourself without help! If only I had an assistant 🤣
@@SewSewLounge x⚡actly!
@@SomeBuddy777 my assistants only have paws not thumbs 😹
I love your taste in prints, gorgeous! Id definitely get rid of that blue in the skirt, both the print and the green would be cooler choices❤
❤️❤️❤️
