There is a quilt shop in Canada called Paisley's that specializes in William Morris fabrics, as well as gifts, China, puzzles, etc. that are all William Morris .
What a shame you didnt make it over to Shepherds Bush to the west of London, just 15 mins on the tube. There is a whole street of fabric stores, amazing selection and prices, it would have blown your mind!
I agree, shepherds Bush/Goldhawk Road one of the best fabric shops in London, so many fabric Shops in Goldhawk Road and and in Shepherds Market, great choice, great prices.
Just in case you didn’t know, there’s the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow (end of Victoria line) which was his family home. No fabrics on sale from memory but large collections of his furniture, wallpaper, textiles, writing etc. Like most museums it is free entry, had a nice place for tea and cake when I was there.
I went when I was in London!! It was such a beautiful house and there were stands outside with fresh flowers and patisserie. We ate cakes in the garden❤️ I recorded footage to use in a video when I sew up my strawberry their fabric.
Thanks for sharing these lovely shops!!!❤❤❤ Living in a tiny state myself its always such a joy to see what fabric shops exist outside of my little world. ☺️
Oh my word! My absolute dream :) I just love spending time walking around fabric stores and I get so excited and happy that I can look at a fabric and just know what I can make with it. Beats walking around a general clothing shop and taking something off a rack that maybe dozens of other people are wearing ;) Sure, it takes time and can sometimes be more expensive to make a garment yourself but you are wearing something unique and just for you!
Omg I feel the exactly the same way! Shopping in stores is completely underwhelming with the boring fabrics and styles. I would much rather buy fabric to make something unique to me ❤️
Wow! What an experience. I think I need to set aside a London Fabric Shopping Spree piggybank. Thanks so much for sharing. I live in upstate NY and basically get all my fabrics online, the majority from British companies. But to be able to go in and see, touch, would be such a dream.
Liberty does William Morris prints that you can get in the states in Joann's online shop... maybe also in some of the stores. William Morris fabrics and wallpapers have been available for "always." I still have a pamphlet style catalog I ordered from the back of a sewing mag in 1975. Lovely, lovely stuff.
Buying Willam Morris printed fabric in the UK was more satisfying that getting it online from Joann’s. Interestingly enough, John Lewis had all sorts of home furnishings in William Morris prints which were also beautiful. Unfortunately I didn’t have room to bring back bedding!!
wooo expensive ..very expensive ! 68 dollars? for 1.5 meters? omg! With fabrics at those prices I don't sew, I have never paid more than 10 euros per meter of fabric and that is something special...the normal thing for my purchases is a maximum of 3 euros per meter...sometimes 5
Exactly! I sewed all through the 70s and 80s and enjoyed creating my own wardrobe for a fraction of the price of store bought clothes. Once clothes became cheap, fabric became expensive and has all the same issues of product miles and sustainability so the fabric stores closed in hoards. Add to that the fact that a pattern is the price of a complete garment from a high street store! Now fabric and patterns are exclusively for the affluent hobby sewer, or sewists as they have been rebranded. The Sewing Bee has inspired people to sew until they realise fabric prices mean the options are now to up-cycle or alter thrifted clothes.
Well sometimes you need to thank the algorithm! Recently moved to London, been sewing my projects that were "set aside" due to the move. Ready to buy for potential Ascot dress. Family friend here is fashion designed, and recommended two of the store you visited! Now I know what to expect! John Lewis sewing machine colours! Thank you.
Oh yay! Glad that my video gave you a sneak preview. John Lewis was quite the surprise for me and a last minute addition. My friend Mathijs recommended it so we went!
New to you and loving your shopping trips. I also am a huge fan of William Morris. FWIW, I’d use those fabrics to cover the cork boards behind you. At least for me, seeing them everyday would make me so happy. Just a thought..,
Thank you for watching! I love William Morris too; I need to figure out what to make with the fabric I bought in London. Fabric on corkc boards is a good idea, but I think these will end up as clothing.
Another fabulous video. I have that exact Strawberry thief fabric; I bought mine at B&J in NYC… they have a great selection of Liberty fabrics, not just tana lawns. I suspect my London trip will now be more expensive than originally expected. 😮 I thank you😂
If you are going in the next week, they are having sales on fabric and other haberdashery. If not, then be sure to check the 4th floor for discounted fabric. I spent all of my “souvenir” money on fabric. Happy Shopping!!
Lovingly I always see you wear black t-shirts and jeans I wonder if you might consider wearing what you make or an awesome updated sewing apron would love to go to London some day for fabric and yarn
After going through my me made creations I’ve realized that I mostly make dresses and skirts; the latter would not show up on camera during filming. I’m planning to sew more tops in the coming year. The black t-shirt and jeans is a uniform that creates continuity through my videos and gives me one less thing to think about when planning and recording videos. I am planning to make my own black t-shirt using the #skylinetee from @sewhouse7
Great overview, and I loved all of the video that you got at the various places. I believe the William Morris patterns are still owned by Liberty but they do allow other groups to print them from time to time. By far the most popular print is the strawberry thief, and I believe that’s why John Lewis got the right to produce it. I love Liberty and they have a great website. Plus the building is amazing. I am sure you know all about Liberty. My next trip to London, I am going to remortgage the house and buy some fabric there. Lol.
Surprisingly Liberty didn’t have any William Morris prints- or at least the ones I was looking for. John Lewis also had William Morris printed bedding, lampshades, and other household goods which were quite beautiful. I did buy fabric at Liberty- that video is coming next month 😉
@@SewSewLounge I can’t wait! I do know that John Lewis has all the accessories, which is fantastic. I have my eye on a smaller sewing box/case for my living room. My various projects are spread all over and it would be nice to have a place to keep them organized outside my sewing room. I love Liberty but they know that they have a following and price their fabrics to reflect this. I try to get things that are marked down starting the day after Xmas each year from them. Seems like the best prices or at least the best chance of good prices. Can’t wait for more from your trip and I wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed your videos. I have just found you but I plan on staying around!
Howdy from Bryan/College Station 👋🏼 Is the chore coat/jacket the man is wearing in this ideal a handmade item? If so, what pattern? I like the style and looking to make one for myself. Maybe versions in different colors/fabrics.
Howdy neighbor! It is not a handmade item, but the jacket is very stylish. I’ll ask Mathijs to send me pics and see if I can find a similar pattern to recommend 😉
I spoke to my friend and it's a Levi's jacket. There are patch pockets on the front towards the lower edge and a slightly smaller one on the chest. Looks like a basic oversized work shirt-- he calls is a shacket 😂
Just to let you know, Berwick is pronounced ‘Berrick’ and even some of my fellow English people don’t get it right like the street in my town that’s written Belviour but pronounced ‘Beaver’, I know, confusing right! Lovely fabric, I was born here 52 years ago and have been sewing for 40 of those years but have never been to London to shop for fabric 😳
Thanks for the heads up- good to know for further reference as I will probably go shopping there again. I chose these shops because they were centrally located and east to get to on a visit to London. You should totally go!!

Lucky you!! I love his designs.
I am binging your videos. I am enjoying your content. I am so glad that you are based in states and in Texas! I’m in Austin.
Howdy neighbor 🤠That is awesome! I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos.
You lucky girl getting to shop fabric in London. I'm bit green with envy.
I’m even luckier that I had friends to stay with. That way I could spend money on fabric instead of a hotel room 😂

Thanks for that info. I will.have a look next time I go to London.
Great video! If you like the Strawberry Thief, you must go (next time) to Liberty of London for their Tana Lawn ….. so many fabulous prints!
I did go to Liberty and bought LOTS of Tana Lawn. That video will be coming out in August 😉

Yes at Lyon Park! Our air B&B was 2 blocks away!
Oh and more, lots more fabric shops on Goldhawk Rd. Off to them tomorrow. For your next trip.
So I have heard! But I didn’t have time to make it to that part of London. I’ll have to go next time 😉 happy fabric shopping!
Thanks for sharing these lovely shops!!!❤❤❤ Living in a tiny state myself its always such a joy to see what fabric shops exist outside of my little world. ☺️
You are so welcome! I realize that I am fortunate to be able to travel and I love sharing my experiences. Thanks for watching ❤️

I believe that the William Morris prints are now in the public domain, at least in the USA. So you could print them on anything.
I will have to check that out as I love his prints ❤️thanks for the tip
Good haul! Can't wait to see what you make!
I’m excited too!! Now I just need to find patterns.
@@SewSewLounge Buy the fabric, the pattern will come! Luckily it works both ways!😉

Yes it’s expensive but it was very special fabric. Silk fabric isn’t cheap in the US and the price was in the range of what I’d be able to buy here.

I always have an urge to go to London. I left plenty of fabric behind at Liberty 😉

I was at McCullough and Wallis in May to buy Vlieseline. When I’m able to get back to London, I’ll try your other suggestions.
You won’t be disappointed!!
I went to Milan in April! I bought two cotton shirtings that are sooooo soft!
That’s awesome. Milan is on my list for fabric shopping 😉

For Liberty fabrics it is always worth trying Shaukat - a big range of Liberty, but a little cheaper.

What pattern for 2 hour knit dress?
It’s an out of print New Look pattern 6374.
@@SewSewLounge Thanks for your prompt reply.
Did you ship it home or put it in your luggage? Thanks
I put it in my luggage. And my sisters 😉
Those look like raspberries.
I thought so too the first time I can across the fabric. But they’re strawberries, seedy, seedy strawberries 😂
It's pronounced Bear ick Street!!!!
Really?!? I didn’t realize that the “W” was silent in British English. Here in the U.S. we like to pronounce all the letters 😉
Indeed … “beer-rick” for those of you across the Atlantic …..
