This is how quickly you can lose control when wind speeds are high and blowing across Wyoming. Heed the closures if you are traveling in a light or high profile vehicle in strong winds!
I have driven almost every type including semi and entertainer bus with mega trailer! You can clearly see he slowed down because of the trooper and he JACK KNIFED!!!!
The drive wheels broke loose. The back trailer wheels wood have been the ones to slide from wind most likely. Engine power or drag usually causes drive wheels to loose traction like this. You are probably correct, he came off the throttle and the drivetrain drag caused a loss of traction.
@@ohyeahthatsright3155 if you put time into big rigs you might be able to understand, but probably not considering your name and comment. Yes we got smart from driving and you got dumb from living
I have spent many hours listening to drivers talk themselves into a ticket. Works every time. In 30 years they are still complaining and working for pennies. So Sad but we all have choices.
@@ohyeahthatsright3155 never talked myself into a ticket and as a proud member of the International Brotherhood Of The Teamsters, I don’t make pennies. I make the roads everyone drives on better and the runways for the airports. I guess I made better choices than whoever you’re talking about. Hooray for me
I think they should make more rest areas all over I-80 so the semi rigs can safely pull over and wait out them bad blizzards so they don't wreck so bad in the winter time they don't have to make stores at each one of them they should make them areas where them rigs can safely pull over and wait out blizzards storms with icy slick roads I know I didn't have no fun driving in them in the winter time in my semi rig
I didn't see the container / trailer appearing to tilt because of the wind before this happened. It looks like a plain old skid to me, on a slippery / maybe icy surface.
The Driver Might of had A Light Load on is that Hiway 30 in Wyoming. If I Had A Light Load I would Go 30 Around Elk some times to Windy to Stay on I80 around Elk.
I know the wind caught the trailer but I think the driver had his Jake on and when he saw the HP he took his foot off gas and the Jake engaged cause you see the tractor start to jack knife and then the trailer slides
Agreed. A simple blow around would have mostly only involved the trailer until it swung so far it would have slowed and pulled the tractor with it. The tractor was very involved here, so there was a certain amount of operator error.
@@42lookc- Like you, I don't think it was the wind. If it was, the butt end of the trailer would have snapped first. This was more a driver judgement problem. Driving on packed snow, in the wind, maybe a light load, and no iron. The winds out there can be terrifying even on dry roads, especially if you're light. He should have at least had minimal chains on, or parked it. Sure, you may have only been doing 30-35 mph with chains, but you'd have got to where you're going. IMO though, I would have waited it out until things got a little better, or taken another route.
Of course a Knight, all these companies just want you to keep driving. no one should have been driving in those conditions. Drivers use your heads, tell your Dispatcher you will not drive in those conditions… Period!
Worked for that company 10yrs. Knight never told me how and when to drive my truck. You just call up and say you have a weather delay and give them a new eta. We would get msgs daily warning us to make good decisions in the winter with weather updates. They would even shut down all the trucks in a region during bad weather events This iis all on the driver my friend. Pride and money over good judgment.
Drivers decision to drive in those conditions. Dispatcher is driving a freaking desk, not my truck. My dispatchers always knew I refused to drive in snow and ice and hurricanes. NYC, yes, but ice never! And that road has turned to ice pack with snow on top. Now the video: it looks to be an up hill side he's on so why did he slow down causing a jack knife when he saw the cop unless the fool was driving to fast for conditions while empty? He would or should have been doing less than 30 on and in that crap, not worth even driving, just killing the log book. A loaded trailer would not get blown in those winds unless over 40mph but would have jackknifed the same when he took his foot off the brake and maybe he had his jakes on. The wind was not that hard if you watch the cloud of dust move along the back of the trailer at maybe 15 to 20 mph and as that officer managed to make it over there without becoming airborne or on his arse. Hours are more valuable than that $.35 cpm in winter. That dispatcher he's so scared of doesn't care about his hours either, as he has maybe 50 trucks on his board? Sorry but I'm calling it a bad move on the driver taking his foot off the pedal. Unless the company downloaded his CPU and can post those! There is the truth teller! Oh, I have 32 years OTR with my last 2 years doing a dedicated Midwest to NYC 2 day multi drop load. Just calling it as I have lived it and seen it. Blue Sky's and Safe Journeys!

I’m glad you saw what he was thinking and informed us all. You got smart while driving.

Even with a heavy load, on slick roads that wind will just shove you exactly like that.
0:19 What comes off the rig on the far side? You can see it hit the ground and head towards the rear of the trailer.
Kntryhart , the spare tire.
Ah...thanks!
Driver tried to slow down causing rig to jack knife.
Thank you Captain Obvious!!
anytime

*Internet high five* lol
......so basically, the cop caused the crash lol jk
yet another job opening in the trucking industry

High wind accident
Wipers please!
Похоже на то что трак разогнался с горочки,а когда увидел копа стал притормаживать.Сильный ветер и скользкое покрытие привели к складыванию.

Michelle Ricard i think it had alot to do with it being knight transportation

Nope. Most trucks r automatics now so when his drives kicked out he couldn't remove the power off the drives so it kept going
Trucking Man
Autos will automatically disengage the clutch if a wheel slip is detected.

Driver should have stirred in the same direction in which the slid was happening.
Could have been gently corrected, In my opinion.
don’t look like a high wind crash to me, most likely that was skidding on the ice, … don’t even look like a crash to me, either 😕🤣
Where was this? MP?
Saw the cop freaked out, took foot completely off accelerator...... which in some cases is all it takes. you are welcome
The Jake's no have nothing to do probably is not enough wage in the drives axells
Too fast for conditions (maybe exceeding normal speed limit
Tried to slow when he saw cop
Skid started and wind brought it on around.
Speed limit is anywhere fron 75-80 in Wyoming. That’s a knight truck which is governed at 65mph Wyoming is known for high winds
💀
Super trucker's

It's always like that in Wyoming
Thumbs down. Was this filmed with a potato?
