  • Hey folks. I’ve got a new long-form conversation for you about Earth, humanity, and the deep connection between the two with my good friend, Kate Kavanaugh.
Kate is a farmer, butcher, holistic nutritionist, and host of the Mind Body Soil podcast. In this interview, Kate shares her personal trauma story and how she found her way through several “rock bottoms” in her health (including chronic intestinal issues, anxiety, fatigue, and depression) by reconnecting to food and the biological world.
We also dive deep into regenerative agriculture, Kate’s opinion on diagnoses (including the many she received in childhood that are now irrelevant), and why accepting the complex and interconnected nature of our health and healing is essential.

I first experienced Rick Rubins when Lex Fridman interviewed him. At the time I believed there were " magicians". O thought he was one. I was blown away by that interview.
Im a student of yours Irene. I am healing, yet thats not been overnight. Thanks for saying that healing comes through not just one thing. I wish that I had a somatic healing community that I vould talk with others through.
This interview is soothing and I find myself thinking that Im meant to be here and that its part of finding answers that Im seeking ❤
Its profound what you say Irene, "that youre not trying to change the world, its just my job". We live in a neurotic world with many voices shouting, do this! Its the answer!
I work in a school and its "getting better", but then, how do those whos job it is to read accurately whats going on, read it accurately and know what to do?
Brilliant, enlightening, and so helpful: regeneration and relationship to self and other.❤thankyou.
Im starting to get it Irene, the healing power of "following impulse".
Medicalizing the human experience: possibly frightening is that so many kids are coded today.
I made it through this video😊

This was such a wonderful interview. I've been diagnosed as an adult with Autism Level 1 (formerly Asperger's) and I also see this as a natural response to my life experiences. I do believe I can grow in capacity to connect with others. While I have found the diagnosis helpful in many ways in order to manage and accomodate myself, I see achieving safety in connection as the larger goal here. It's inspiring to hear your story, Kate.

I used to rush around like a maniac tidying and cleaning my place when someone was coming over. I would stress and freak out so much, it was awful for my health and awful to my hubby and daughter who would put up with my meltdowns. My big aha momemt was the day I realised that I myself did not care what a friend's place looked like - I was just happy to spend time together. I realised that I could ease up on myself and my own house!

I haven't had so many goosebumps listening to something in a long time! and I have to share my extraordinary experience which I felt while eating mussels picked in the ocean (in Portugal) by myself with frieds (i was on vacation there) . I've never harvested animal food by hand before, and haven't had the opportunity since. when I ate these mussels, I felt my heart OPEN , I felt a CONNECTION with NATURE and GRATITUDE to IT. It was an absolutely spiritual experience for me! I have tears in my eyes when I remember this :) thank you for this amazing talk❤️❤️❤️

Thank you both for that inspiring interview. Love the connections. I could feel the interview. A combination of learning + feeling for me. Awesome nervous system trainin, too. A year ago I couldn't have handled the long form in one go. I would have been too restless. Now I enjoy calmy "interacting" with it (ventral is on❤). Thanx SBSM and Irene!

Thank you for this both of you. My trauma started at 6 years old and I ended up with a diagnosis of chronic depression and anxiety at 8 years old. I then got a diagnosis for borderline personality disorder at 18 and eventually CPTSD when I was 22. I am refused treatment to a psychiatrist because I won’t take medication as it made me feel so much worse. The dsm is absolute BS

This was really great. Irene, I have been following your work for some time and I am a fan. Kate, I love the way you express yourself. It’s very poetic, and well explained.
I would like to say, that I miss the timestamps greatly. I have listened to every single video that I am aware of. It really helps to have the time stamps when you want to go back and capture a thought or sentiment that was particularly important. You can’t do that anymore. I wish the timestamps would come back, but I guess it takes a lot of work.

49:13 - I think there’s a big difference between trying to save the world, as opposed to trying to provide leadership and good direction. The former is usually a kind of flight-fight response with a heavy dose of self-blame, the later is a kind of creativity and spontaneity that comes from being grounded. Both Irene and Kate show what smart leadership looks like.

It shocks me that people can do this work of nervous system healing, which brings about so much compassion for self and others, and then go on to mention slaughtering innocent animals like it is nothing 😢 Feeling the trigger for a moment before I return to pressing play 😅

Well I tried to continue but what I am hearing is disgusting. Really disappointed that this has been put out on Irene's channel. I refused to believe that someone with a regulated nervous system can cause harm to others in this way and take so much pride in doing so 😢
