Glad you made a follow up video, maybe it's a European thing, but none of my co2 extinguishers fit my regulator, so I cut the extinguisher horn/spout and took the nut off and fit it to my regulator, now I want to build a trolley with two wheels and one handle that straps the bottle upside down for portable work 👍🏾😊
@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 I have a CO2 specific flow meter, fits my cga320 co2 valve that I used to convert one of my extinguishers for refilling, but the other extinguishers have a different thread, it's close but only catches the first thread then gets tight, so I stole the nut off the nozzle and used it, awesome temporary solution 😁
@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 yes, they were being thrown away, I thought they were empty, as the bottles are due to be hydrotested, so I was going to get that done and have the place that does the testing put the correct valve on. (they told me they do it all the time for aquarium guys) but both 10lb bottles had co2 in them and I couldn't bring myself to dump them out and waste the co2, so I'll weld with it for now. Strangely my issue using them upright is different to yours, my regulator starts to freeze and the flow seems to become restricted? Doesn't happen during small jobs, only happened while testing the machine running beads at max output. I plan to build a small cart/trolley to wheel the bottles around that can mount them upright or upside down. 😊👍🏾
Depending on distance see if they have any out of test (single use ones)ask them to contact you and go colect a few at a time I pay 15 quid for single use
Crazy Idea.... I wonder if one captured the exhaust from an engine and compressed it in a tank with a compressor, if that would eliminate enough oxygen to cause the wire not to burn which is the job of the Co2? Does the extinguishers you get have a threaded Nozzle or where do you tap into?
That's carbon monoxide not carbon dioxide so I'm not sure if that can work. Also this is no longer mig welding its mag welding. Carbon dioxide is an active gas not an inert gas you need to add a lot of argon to it for mig but, mag welding gives deeper penetration. Anyway the purpose of the gas is to create a neutral environment for the arc to burn I'm responsible sure carbon monoxide would cause loads of porosity and inclusion.
Won't there still be liquid co2 in the pickup tube inside the extinguisher when you turn it upside down? Surely you'd have to blow what's left in the tube off first
Yeah sounds like your getting dooped there. I do keg beer these days and my size d co2 bottle costs me $35 au for a swap witch would be like $19 of your dollars. Haven’t yet to try it as a shield gas yet but can’t wait to try. For the proper stuff it’s around $300 for a size d bottle but then only $100 for a swap. But yes very clever using the fire extinguisher 🧯 bottle.
That's pretty weird that it's costing you that much for pub gas, I reckon you're right about someone taking the piss there. Have you chatted to your local? If I recall correctly, I was swapping cylinders with my local for the princely sum of £15! It does mean taking a trip to the pub every so often though, which is obviously a bit of a hardship...
Hello chap. I'm paying £34 for my refills on a 20 litre tank at 200 bar. But I'm having issues with supply and the guy charged me full price for a bottle he had decanted into and it was under 90 bar last time. So couple of questions, do you know the volume of a fire extinguisher and what pressure are they at?
That 200bar is the bottle's rated pressure, room temp liquid co2 is about 900psi or 70bar but I can see you getting 90 on the gauge if your shed is hot, I don't know about the argomixes though or argon. So the real question is how much liquid do you get in a bottle, I've not actually measured, was using pub gas size bottles and have convinced myself these 5kg extinguishers last longer and I got scanked by the pub gas guy so its been these ever since.
@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 I can get a 5kg extinguisher for £30 but I'm talking to a guy who has the big 50kg extinguishers on a trolley. I think it will be cheaper and more reliable then the company I've been using.
@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 the guy is a fire marshal of sorts he services and refills them. He said he might be able to refill my argon bottle too.
@@BensWorkshop I think it's 3/8 bsp but what I'm saying is as far as regulators are concerned they are just referred to as pub gas fittings and it's 5kg of co2 in an extinguisher, they are always rated by contents not gross as the bottle material can vary, I've got my spam settings cranked right up so posting links is hit and miss but I'll try otherwise just search for 5kg co2 extinguisher.
Any reg that fits a pub gas co2 bottle will connect straight to the extinguisher.
The refurb extinguishers are available on eBay.
Neat idea I’m lucky enough to be able to get co2 from my local at matesrates dreading replacing the Argon for the TIG 😮
