I was at a pirates game a couple weeks ago with my dad and three year old sister, and had the privilege to meet him, he was the sweetest man ever, when he wasn't helping other people he was talking to my sis, he even came and sang take me out to the ball game with her, brought me to tears
So I live in Pittsburgh and in 2016, my family and I went to a Pirates game and Phil showed us to our seats He is one of the nicest people I have ever met
Here's an update: Phil officially retired in 2018 at age 99. He'd suffered a fall that caused a head injury and couldn't continue his work. The Pirates and the city of Pittsburgh honored him. And, as far as I've been able to Google, as of this writing in November 2020 -- he's still alive at age 102. God bless him. :)
From the nation's capital: Just think, he worked thru eight decades, incl. five all-star games, three W. Series, nine NLCS series & the '14 Div. Series plus a brief list of all-time BUCS greats- brothers Lloyd & Paul Waner, Ralph Kiner, Mazeroski, Clemente, Stargell, Bonilla, Bonds, Doug Drabek, Jason Kendall, Andrew McCutchen & Gerrit Cole. There needs to be consideration given to possibly having a bronze statue of Mr. Coyne in front of the ballpark!
We need more of these feel good stories and Steve Hartman delivers nicely as always. What a life. When he was a kid that was when Babe Ruth was in his prime.
I am posting this on January 21st 2020 and I would appreciate anybody that can tell me if this fine gentleman of our greatest generation is still at it.
The best apart of it is that he is a WWII Vet, from the steel city, and working for my favorite ball club which I'm a diehard fan of, the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hes a great man.
@@pghyinzer1472 he just recently passed? Ahhh man. I met him when I was a teenager. He joked me and my friends the whole game long because one of my dumb friends wore a Cardinals jersey. I am 50 now, so he must have been in his sixties then, incredible. He really was a sweetheart, and a Pittsburgh Gem.

He was proof that the players shouldn't be the only ones honored with statues at this ballpark.
