    Just so you know for next time: I'm a vet tech, and it's ok for Ollie to be with you when your tube is being placed! It's ok for him to be exposed to the radiation. X-ray gowns for dogs don't exist because they don't need them--we don't put any kind of gown on a dog, even if they are just having their paw x-rayed. The amount of radiation coming from an x-ray machine is not enough to impact a dog in their lifetime. We try to limit a human's exposure to x-ray radiation because if we are exposed to too much, we may see the effects when we get older. However, dogs do not live nearly long enough to see any of those effects. If you and Ollie want to be together during the procedure, go for it!!Also, I'm sending prayers your way, Mary. I hope this tube goes better than the last one.

      But that radiation can still damage the dog’s dna and cause cancer.

    Mary, you are very lucky to have Peter. Not just the fact that he understands what you say when you can't talk but the fact that he's by your side.

    Hi Mary and peter I'm a rmps student from Scotland and I've been studying Christianity as part of my course I was wondering if I could as you a few questions about your faith if you wouldn't mind also today I was learning about worship and listened to a song that if you haven't heard of I think you'd like it's called mighty to save by hillsong

    I totally agree with your comments about care providers "niceness" not being enough. I am having to learn to be my own advocate and stand up for myself when it seems like im slipping through the cracks in the medical system. man is it exhausting. but family and faith make it possible

    • @elizabethanne6361
      @elizabethanne6361 7 років тому +4

      Michelle G It is exhausting but you have to stand up for yourself. Nice doesn't cut it when it comes to your health. I have learned over the years you have to speak up to get good care. Nice is appreciated and goes a long way sometimes, but there has to be skill too.

      shannonflh H get off my comment feed. no one here called anyone incompetent and im sure mary didnt mean it like they didnt know what they were doing but probably just that the other person has more experience doing it. no one said healthcare was easy.

      @puppielove591 7 років тому

      also note if anyone wants to attack me when I posted about my current experiences and issues I will report your comment. I was looking for support because I've experienced stuff in the health care system where I have in fact dealt with people who didn't know what they were doing. the reality is that there are people who don't do a good job in the field and pointing that out is important. for example I had someone recently try to diagnose my current issues based on testing from 2 years ago. that isnt acceptable health care.

    I am appalled at the amount of negativity and rudeness in the comment section of this vlog. I don't recall ever seeing these type of comments in their vlogs before. People need to remember that we are all God's children and we need to support each other and lift each other up, not tear each other down. I will say a prayer for everyone here having a difficult time. Mary tries so hard to be positive and upbeat in these vlogs. The least we can do is to do the same for Peter and Mary and each other.

  • @CynHatmaker

    Hey folks! If Mary's throat does start bothering her again; she may be becoming latex sensitive or intolerant (my husband is...he's also allergic to the adhesive on any tape used except for paper wound tape).
    See if the team has anything made from silicone.
    Praying for you all! With much love!

    I think you should consider filing a complaint with the facility. Those people weren't "nice." They were monstrous, and they completely crossed a line there. Patient dignity, safety, and comfort should always be the highest priority - not "giving everyone the opportunity to try nailing a tricky NJ tube placement." Unacceptable. How DARE they.

  • @silverbroom02
    @silverbroom02 7 років тому +10

    Hearing about the "rug burn"... :( I wonder why they wouldn't lubricate the outside of the tube. Is that a thing?

    • @expression3639
      @expression3639 7 років тому +1

      Because it can accidentally go into the lungs and you don't want to get any sort of lubricating substance in there.

    • @sorchaoreilly2633
      @sorchaoreilly2633 6 років тому

      It's a thing. But I find the only bit it helps with getting the tip past the nose, otherwise it just collects in the nose, making it more stuffy and painful in my experience. With extra thick mucus affecting her sinuses with CF, it probably would be sore and stuffy already.
      You can get local anaesthetic sprayed in your throat though but it doesn't coat your entire oesophagus.

  • @laylyoldwild

    Can you get your enzymes in liquid/powder form and mix them with the formula or do they have to go separately/through your stomach?

  • @KenzeAndMakki
    @KenzeAndMakki 7 років тому +13

    I hope it doesn't hurt as long as it did last time! I know when I have to get NJ tubes placed its hard to talk for a couple days after, I hope it stays in place this time! I did have a question though, how come your stomach doesn't digest the tube since it goes past the stomach? Sorry if that's obvious 😂 I also have a service dog, along with multiple chronic illnesses!

    • @tiff2106
      @tiff2106 7 років тому +7

      Kenze And Makki there's no such thing like a dumb question!
      Your body can not digest plastic or latex. The acids in your stomach are not strong enough as plastic is very hard to break down.

    • @KenzeAndMakki
      @KenzeAndMakki 7 років тому +1

      tiff2106 thank you! I've been wondering this for a while lol

    • @missRachelElizabethA
      @missRachelElizabethA 7 років тому +1

      tiff2106. Yeah they can't be ingested, but as a student nurse who has seen them be removed after being in place for a very long time, you can tell which part of the tube sat in the stomach as it looks more worn, it's really interesting

    • @vividdawn913
      @vividdawn913 7 років тому +1

      As far as I know, my tube (straight in the stomach through my skin, not nose) is silicone. They usually try not to use latex stuff, in case of allergies.

    • @KenzeAndMakki
      @KenzeAndMakki 7 років тому +1

      Julia Despain weird! If I ever had to get a tube like that Idk what they'd do, I'm allergic to silicone AND latex 😬 that's why I'm nervous about my port surgery because I don't know what they are going to put in me

    • @kelseys628

      (1) Her coughing makes her throw up a lot. (2) She cannot digest food very well as it is because her pancreas does not work. (3) Being sick all the time gives you a poor appetite.
      Being underweight makes her body even weaker so it can't fight her disease as hard. The tube is to give her more energy and make her stronger! (It goes into her small intestine so she cannot throw it up)

    You know what's so adorable, she said she didn't want him to call it formula, and to call it fuel. And he hasn't called it formula since, he's made a full effort to remember. It's not needed, he did it because it made her feel more comfortable. And he made a conscious effort because he's kind and truly loves her. This makes me so happy for them, she is a lucky girl, and he is a lucky man. ❤️

  • @Anna_Beth_

    Just love you three to pieces!! Mary you said something earlier in the Vlog that is SO TRUE! There are a lot of NICE people that do try and do their jobs for our procedures! HOWEVER, being nice doesn't always make you comfortable! You can have nice people around you all the time! I always felt like I would sometimes just rather have someone with a stern bedside manner than someone nice if they knew what they were doing!! Hospital procedures can be crazy ridiculous between in-patient and out-patient! Radiology can only administer certain meds due to their schooling background vs having it placed in patient with an anesthesiologist on board! Even if you were doing out-patient now that you know they don't offer the helpful and more comfortably medicated route even with low lung function due to CF they can still give you something to relax you enough that you're just woozy but not out! You're your own BEST ADVOCATE!! We all are! No one can feel being stuck, poked, pricked, tube insertions, testing, etc. I was always afraid to say something! Now I've learned after experiencing all my bad memories and moments that's make me have more anxiety now due to past history that they never had to be that way before! I didn't know that because I didn't know MY VOICE AND MY OPINION mattered! I didn't consider myself part of the team but I soon realized, I was the "I" in team that everyone says never exists! Without me they wouldn't be working on me! You do have a say! The worst they can ever say is NO we can't do that! Sometimes choosing to stay inpatient for 48 hrs is really worth the extras because it's the difference of having a surgeon place it verses having a radiologist place it! I'm sure they're very good at what they do! Since you're a tuff placement I would no let them know this outpatient did not work as well as you expected it to without having fluids to swallow while moving the tube down!
    Again, I know they're following protocols for their jobs but protocol and comfort don't mix well and help the patients! I had a biopsy done once with a regular Dr. then one with outpatient and radiology! I about flipped our! They didn't do anything before taking a chunk of my liver like they were supposed to give me! All due to the fact the guy performing the test was NOT a Dr. or a Specialist! So we've have literally stayed 24hrs 1 minute to have that done so it doesn't hurt so bad! Although you looked great by afternoon.. I wonder if you being awake helped them placing it easier and slower knowing you could feel it! I just hope they didn't injure your throat from the last time if you're not allergic to the tubing and it makes your throat sore! Praying for you all!!! I've enjoyed all your videos and you guys really are famous to all your watchers and fans! We care about you all! Take care guys!
    We'll watch tomorrow!! GOODNIGHT!!! 😂😍😉🤔😀😀😀👆🙏🏼

    Hey Mary, so glad you got the NJ tube placed back in, now you can continue to get those nutrients you body so deserves. You know what I was thinking?, maybe you can get few hooks positioned through out your home, so that the feeding bag can be hooked up on it wherever you're at in your house, don't wanna stay in one place all the time. Another thing that crossed my mind is, maybe you should avoid coughing if you can because doing so will shift it's placement and well... if you can't that's fine, I'm not a nurse - just a viewer but I believed that's why it came loose the first time. Anyhow I'm so glad that you got back the placement and well I'll encourage you to continue fighting, you're a strong woman, never give up and God richest blessings upon you, your husband and Oliver. Great job.

    I was told nobody would ever love me because I'm sick. The comment left me feeling really self-concious and sad. Your Vlogs make me not only keep pushing when I feel like I can't do it, but also give me hope for the future. My illness doesn't define me, and more importantly, it doesn't make me unloveable. It isn't easy, but the love between the two of you really gives me hope.

      I pray you've found that wrong! My fiance is like Peter & 12 yrs younger than me. I ask him all the time why he picked a broken person to love (several chronic pain causing illnesses plus PTSD) & he shakes his head telling me I'm not broken & you sometimes don't pick, your heart & soul do. He's amazing when a 4 hour job leaves me on the couch the rest of the day. I'm an ASL interpreter so schedule varies daily.

    Ollie certainly has had lots of noisy toys lately! And my dog has noticed! ;) My dog loves squeaky toys, but he also eats them... Like fully ingests every part of the toy, fabric, plastic, whatever, so we mostly stick to antlers and bones.
    On a deeper note, I have to say how inspiring you and Peter are together. The way you care for each other and the love you share is visible even through a computer screen. I know no human relationship is perfect, but I admire how determinedly you keep your hearts set on God and on loving each other even when things are tough.

    As a Nurse, I have to stick up for the radiology team. Since this was the first you where there for NJ insertion neither you or they knew what was going to work best for you. I don't think it was lack of knowledge on their part. They probably have placed hundreds of these tubes. Everyone's anatomy is different..So now you and they know for next time to make you uncomfortable right of the bat and use a rigid guide wire. I strongly encourage you to place your back pack on your back to prevent the tube from catching on anything. I would hate to see you go through this again.

      I am NOT a NURSE but I do have lots of my own medical problems (Cauda Equina Syndrome, Paraplegia, etc) and live in the REAL world and have to live everyday that is adapted to real LIFE! This was not the first time she had the tube placed, she had it placed less than 10 days ago and they did it by having her drink not by having her dry swallow the tube and wire. She had also discussed with them in advance about the method they would be using to place tube and told them her concerns about them not using any premed, etc. The tubing on her fuel line has a long extension tubing on it, she is very, very used to being hooked up to IV's, etc. she will have her fuel on 24/7 and although in a perfect world yes, you would put the backpack on but Mary is not running around town she is going 20 feet from one room to the other, from the couch to the bed, to the kitchen to the office to pack orders, so hanging the backpack on a hook is not going to be the end of the world.

      Oh Brenda, I'm sorry if I upset you. I do follow the vlog everyday and know Mary already had an NJ placed. The procedure the first time was different however. The first time it was done in her room at the bedside. I am very aware that this different approach caused Mary anxiety. I do know Mary has had to deal with a life time of IV medications thru her port.My suggestion was only to point out that she may very well know where her tube is but others may not and this is something to consider. Ollie may not know its there and catch it while walking by or anyone not familiar with it since it's still relatively new for them. I am sorry I upset you Brenda.....and I too leave in the REAL world. If I didn't I would still be able to work in the profession I love.

      Barbara Mason she had the nj placed once before while inpatient and they medicated her and had her sip water to help it go down. this time as an outpatient they didnt medicate nor give her water just had her swallow air which i assume would be uncomfortable and dry for the tube to go down. but this time for sure she knows who to ask for and what worked best out of the two placements. sometimes patients are scared to speak up to the medical team, im one of them but i realized that sometimes its necessary. not being mean of course but just standing up for yourself like i had a home nurse try 3 times to access my port, her technique was different but thats ok it was on the 3rd try where she was pushing so hard she actually bent the needle that i had to say no were done here. i had to request her not to return to my home. its a tough balance but im always cautious to be very nice and understanding. nurses are amazing btw thank you for what you do, i know you guys dont hear that enough.
