I had not had to take a test to renew my license for at least 15 yrs. At 71, I had to take the test, but I took the e-learning test, and it was so easy
I drive a lot almost everyday. One of the rare people that doesn't tailgate etc.. Have been a licensed California driver since 1967. Haven't had a moving violation since mid '70's. The state shouldn't even bother testing me.
Agree, E-Learning is hard for the seniors. You can ask your relatives to help.
I'm now almost 92 yrs. old, just renewed my Class C , took the written test, vision test, photo taken......

Took test and went to DMV , finger print, eye test, photo and receiving license in 2 to 3 weeks. Thanks
Doing this for my dad glad I found this method.
There is another official DMV.CA.GOV test that I know for sure you can take online here on UA-cam. It has the official logo, verbage (see example at the beginning of the last sentence}. That is the test you want to do here on UA-cam BECAUSE you can either print out your results (pass) or send your results electronically straight to the DMV site. Otherwise, if you physically go to the DMV to take the written test, you must pass the test in only 3 attempts (with possibly one person one either side of you also taking THE test).
The California DMV website WILL NOT ALLOW 70+ the eLearning option until 2 MONTHS BEFORE your License expires. John M.
You have to wait for the renewal letter from DMV then you can take E-Learning
I received an email reminder since I opted for paperless notification. Should that qualify me to use the e-learning option? My license expires Oct. 10th.
I did all these steps last week before seeing this video. I had no idea this would get me out of the test! When it was time for the survey, I was quite negative haha. One thing, your documents for the Real ID can be government licenses or vehicle registrations or many other things. I used my driver`s licence and a vehicle registration.

You have already paid the renewal fee at the DMV office. Please note that you are required to complete the written test 3 times at the DMV. If you do not pass, you can visit www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/ and follow the steps outlined in my video provided there.

@@justbecause502 what I did on line was e-learning, you go thru about 7 lessons, after each lesson there is a simple quiz to test your knowledge. It is not graded, it is just some sort of a review if you understood the lesson.

Yes, you can renew your DL by taking ELearning. After completing the course, you still need to visit the DMV for a vision test, document, and photo.

You don’t have to. You make take E-Learning because it very easy to get your license. Otherwise, you have to take the test every 5 years

E-Learning is applied for class C driver license. It costs only $45. You may ask DMV to refund you money. And also E-Learning is only for renewal driver license for senior.

What if I can’t get an appointment for the vision test before my license expires but I can complete the online learning before my license expires?
When you complete the E-Learning, you can walk-in person at DMV office, it may take longer time to wait.

Yes, you should bring them together for sure, DMV website mentions about these documents. You don’t want to go back home to get them.

You can only renew your license if your license is expired in 60 days. Yes, you can renew by E-Learning.

I'm 72 and already went to the DMV, picture taken fingerprinted, and passed the "C" test but failed my motorcycle test. They told me I needed to reapply and start over, even though I told them I didn't need the motorcycle license. I didn't see any option online for me to take the e-learning test.
If you passed class C test, you will receive your driver license within 2 weeks. E-Learning is only applied for Class C.

Is everybody eligible to take the test online thru e-learning? Or does it say on the mailing you get that you're eligible? This is confusing. I don't want to wait til the last minute. E-Learning is available for obtaining a Driver's License, including the Real ID. Everyone aged 70 and above is eligible for this online course. There is no test-simply complete the 1-hour study session, and you can receive your driver's license. You are definitely qualified to take the E-Learning course. Well, i tried to register and the system refused my password no matter what i did. So i now have to go to the dmv and wait forever toget help. Everyone and everything says its so easy. How can you do anything if you cant get registered ? Its all blah blah blah.

@@lualuadmv thanks, no. I'm in the central valley. I finally got in and was almost finished with the test when the page went blank. Header said error. Will try again and then that's it. I will just have to walk in and wait for hours. I'm a paraplegic also.

Two days ago 5/25 Sat, I successfully enrolled the eLearning course with payment paid and got receipt with Payment Confirmation Number, but still unable get access to the DMV Virtual Test Center to start my learning, had tried clicking on "click here" wordings several times yesterday and today (Sunday) in same DMV email which showed payment confirmation number although DMV email said Virtual Test Center eLearning course available 27/4days week. Seemed eLearning access still not available or activated, is it because of virtual training center only operates on week days, not on Sat/Sun perhaps also Holidays (incl. 5/27?). Found also DL application confirmation code not shown on email. Please advise how could I resolve situations or get access to or have it activated so able to start course learning ASAP. I'm 81 years old. Thx.

As said maybe wrong step or missing step, will hold n wait couple days, awaiting possible update at DMV as paid 3 days ago, but seemed not yet processed till today due holidays. Although no virtual test but virtual test center still existed to monitor course. Will ask for help if needed then. Thks.

Yes, it works. You have to complete 3 attempts of writing test, if you are still not passed , then you can make payment for the E-Learning.
Does this procedure applies to all states in the U.S.A ?
This program is applied in CA. I don’t have information from other state.

@@tranghoang6248 Yes, it is true. Indeed, if you opt to take the exam at the DMV and do not pass, you cannot switch to the E-Learning option. You must continue taking the exam at the DMV until you pass.
