    I’m a senior, here’s some of my problems driving:
    People riding bicycles in the dark at 4:30 am, no lights, no reflectors.
    Cars driving before dawn with their lights off.
    Super hyper bright headlights, they blind everything. This is safe?
    Red light runners. I was hit by one of these.
    Speeders.
    Cell phone users.
    Sudden lane changes, yep, one of these got me.
    This test doesn't seem to cover any of these problems.

    I'm 69 years old and I only got the railroad crossing sign question wrong. It wasn't on my written driver's test 50 years ago. Somehow I managed to avoid hitting a train or anything else.

      @brucecampbell6578 9 місяців тому +5

      I was the one hit by the train in some verdant terrain. It happens. The railroad companies always have the right of way. I have paid closer attention over the past 50 years to railroad crossings. I was distracted at the same time of my own crash by a local resident waving her arms feverously at me. I didn't understand what was really going on until the whistle blew, right before the the locomotive struck my WV bug on the right passenger side. Dragging me down the tracks some one hundred yards before hurtling my vehicle and I down an embankment and into a mobile home park. Where I proceeded to tear out a porch and patio of one of their residents. I almost made it across the tracks, and always have felt lucky to make it out with my life. Exactly 50 years ago.

    I believe the answer to the Rail Road Crossing sign is incorrect in the video. THIS SIGN THAT IS SHOWN NEVER indicates the direction that the tracks cross the highway! Rail Road Signs are universal across the USA and DO NOT indicate at which angle the tracks cross the roadway. They only tell the driver that tracks are present! There are other yellow signs that may show tracks crossing at an angle, but the sign shown in the test video is definitely not designed to do that. It merely indicates that it is a Rail Road Crossing.

    • @sandovalperry2895
      @sandovalperry2895 2 місяці тому +1

      The test has the wrong sign, the sign is yellow not the old fashion X crossing sign
      The following is from the Federal Highway Administration
      Section 8B.19 Skewed Crossing Sign (W10-12)
      Option:
      The Skewed Crossing (W10-12) sign (see Figure 8B-5) may be used at a skewed highway-rail grade crossing to warn drivers that the railroad tracks are not perpendicular to the highway.
      Guidance:
      If the Skewed Crossing sign is used, the symbol should show the direction of the crossing (near left to far right as shown in Figure 8B-5, or the mirror image if the track goes from far left to near right). If the Skewed Crossing sign is used where the angle of the crossing is significantly different than 45 degrees, the symbol should show the appropriate angle of the crossing.

    I’m a senior and had to take the written test at DMV because the online test wouldn’t download to my iPad. The test had very little to do with a regular driver on the road. Most of the questions were for truck drivers or something…even the lady who gave me the test said that was stupid. Thankfully I passed, but it was close. Your right about these questions, they are very poorly written. Next time I renew, I will review beforehand, because there are a few I would have gotten wrong. Like about the blind pedestrian. @Weathernerd27 10 місяців тому +1

      Testing everyone is a waste of time. What is the point of testing someone who has driven for years without incident? Obviously they know how to drive safely. You can be a safe driver without knowing every obscure rule in the book, people have enough stress in their lives they don't the additional stress of studying the drivers manual. I would only test those who had alot of tickets/accidents and seniors showing obvious signs of dementia. Now I don't have a problem with requiring people over 75 to provide proof of a doctors visit within the last few years where they were evaluated for dementia and if the doctor thought they had dementia then they have to take the written test. If a dementia test is required then there needs to be a clear definition of what dementia is. I'm a really shy man and I'd worry that someone would think that because I didn't talk very much I must be stupid/demented but if you put a logic test in front of me I'd ace it.

    100% at age 73. Most of these questions are common sense. A few I best-guessed as I don’t live in CA and my state doesn’t have a senior test. IMO, the real danger is from younger people who are more apt to be texting while driving an older model car not equipped with hands free technology. Those of any age lacking in driving experience can also pose a hazard.

      some times the test questions are close but not accurate in the available answers...other times it is their all right but which is the "most right" and that kind of a test is not about knowledge it's about passing a stupid test !

    This comes from the tyranny of a full-time California state legislature. Actuary wise, there's no solid evidence that seniors are responsible for a greater number of auto accidents than any others. I was an auto liability claims adjuster in California for close to 30 years and never experienced a disproportionate number of claims involving senior drivers. California drivers with vision impairments often have to renew their license by taking a driver's road test every two years. So, while taking that every two years special vision test you could fail that test because you did not signal or change lanes properly, which has nothing to do with your vision, and lose your driver's license.

      Where we lack in eyesight and reflex our experience has reenforced with abundant caution. Also this senior is not obligated to be on the road to support the household. I was far more prone to make mistakes in my more vigorous youth. I was just sent notice of my own renewal and am about to go online to take the test and pay the required 49 dollars. It has been quite a while since requiring anything more than a fee. I am more concerned with some form of driving test or the vision test. This seems relatively painless. Thanks for your support of seniors.

    My father was not doing well and should not have been driving due to arthritis. My sister said he was fine! One day her son and my nephew that were teens were in his car and he froze at a major intersection! A nurse behind him in traffic checked on him and had him move over and she drove him to my sister's home and her daughter drove her car. Both my nephews had permits but were so scared to drive! My father said he just froze and forgot what to do! A couple months later my mother pointed to a hotel near that same intersection and she commented that they are so nice at that place! Apparently they stayed there because they got lost! They lived 1 mile away! She never said how many nights they stayed there and to be honest I still freak out each time I think of it! A fellow employee said they worked as a front desk person at a major hotel chain and they have a whole training about seniors. They get lost locals all of the time! Being older now I realize that driving is a privilege! Thank God for home deliveries and senior ride services. It's sad when things we take for granted are now getting harder and harder! Getting old is for the birds!

    I have been reviewing ... youtube 6 videos .. test for Seniors. Also another video .. supposedly from DMV .. that they are showing consideration to the Seniors .. that there is A Senior test with only 18 questions. I reviewed these Senior Test 6 of them. And when I was at DMV this morning ... they told me .. NOT TRUE FALSE INFORMATION.
    The test are by random. NO SPECIAL SENIOR TEST .. . I failed it this morning. I saw some questions at DMV test ... that didn't appear in these .. so called Senior Test. I was very very dissapointed .
    So I learned a lesson ... STUDY THE HANDBOOK. And that's what I'm going to do. Thankfully , I had an extension and another chance for test. Or just ... don't review .. so called .. DMV Senior Test. View others .. that are current .. 2023 ,. But I appreciate your efforts.

Most bikes sold do not have fenders, "It is the Thing" these days. And buyers don't car. Also Bikes Must (by law) travel With Traffic to the side of a traffic lane, yet riding on sidewalks, crosswalks, and against traffic is common. @6:29, In my state It is 'approaching a Crosswalk'' OFTEN at a School Zone, too. Some of these are Tricky, My car will not allow starting without holding Brake Pedal, It BEEPS loudly as an alert if anything is behind (camera), it even stops when objects are too close as well as as alerts (beeps) showing all around the car on screen, and points to where the object is. Cannot open doors if traffic is moving too close. (Child/passenger Safety) @8:15, with the Blinkers on, a camera lights up the side on the dash, and may sound an Alarm. Note: Blinkers ON. In olden days Standing on the Brake pedal stopped a vehicle, Now with ABS pumping may not stop the vehicle, and even with ABS the vehicle may not stop in the least possible space.

Also when I get to that point where I can no longer be a safe driver and I don’t have the facilities to realize that there must me a path for the state to take me off the road. I knew a 91 year old lawyer who took turns car pooling people he worked with into downtown Los Angeles. The DMV tried to take away his licence because of age - only. He took them to court and won. Now the California DMV have to judge the individual's cognitive ability instead of an arbitrary age. If your father's friends did not have the loss your father had then anyone condemning them for driving is simply uninformed or prejudice. Remember they once did not let blacks or women fly military aircraft as it was assumed such was beyond their ability.

I had a neighbor who did this and was sad for his loss of freedom but he started to take the bus and adapted. Another neighbor put his foot on the gas instead of the brakes in a parking lot and smashed directly into another car, totaling both of them. If someone had been in front of him loading groceries there would have been a human tragedy.

      California! You know, it’s the state where lots of substances are hazardous or deadly, but become benign by simply crossing into Nevada! It’s the same with driving.

      Those criss-cross signs NEVER indicate the angle of the tracks. They are all exactly the same at every crossing, but are rarely even used these days.

    I renewed my California LD at age 79, and never saw a senior test. It this test actually by CA DMV or one of the commercial clone sites?

      @sitbone3 9 місяців тому +1

      there is no "senior test". Its just that seniors are required to take the test more often.

    Simple solution, since the gov thinks we the elderly are a hazzard on the road. I pose we all change our license to include motorcycle, then we can do
    so many fun things, make left turns from the right turn lane or make right turn flip a bitch and then another right or even make a right
    turn from the left turn lane. Not to even mention flying between cars going 30-70 at 80 to 100. How about fix your bikes before coming after us

    So many of these questions have nothing to do with evaluating a persons ability to drive safely.
    Procession window stickers?
    Angle of train tracks?
    Etc

    The question about what should you do before starting your car was bogus. I said put on your seat belt. The 'correct' answer was make sure the car is in neutral. There hasn't been a car built in the last 70 years that could be started in gear that I know of.

    • @tommybotts
      @tommybotts 2 місяці тому

      That was a ridiculous question! I drive a stick, so in my case, I step on the clutch, which puts the car in neutral anyway, but the emergency brake is on so.....

      @dougiefresh9618 If someone abandons a dog on the road and you get in a wreck trying to avoid hitting it you'll know what it has to do with driving.
