I always remember my grandad taking me to the football, the dizzy heights of Greenock Morton. Just before kick off a big side gate would open and around a dozen invacars would smoke their way into the ground and park up in a row at the side of the pitch. It would have been late 60s early 70s I reckon back when I were a lad.
I had a disabled friend who had an Invacar and he loved it. It had a Villiers 2stroke 197cc engine which could be temperamental. It only had one seat but it was in the 60s and he often carried passengers. I suspect the police turned a blind eye. It was before the breathalizer and the car was always parked outside his local pub. He always got home without any problems, he always said the little car took him home. I wonder what would happen if they gave disabled people cars like this now.
They even featured early in the Simpsons as the ex-Eastern Bloc economy car (with extra fins!) I’m surprised enough Americans knew what it was in the early 90s!
@@paulbennell3313 haha yeah, or they’d maybe seen some historical photographs from a bunch of them at football games (which was popular in some cities)
I'm old enough to remember these being a very common sight, mostly old timers taking them for their weekly shop! They looked absolutely lethal things to take on the road even then, but the fact that they were given out for free to disabled persons to give them some independence is pretty awesome. Thanks for keeping this piece of history on the road, but be careful!
Literally laughed out loud when you said yes it is as dangerous as it looks! I was thinking just that. Also half expected a #notmywashingmachine at the end there too 😂. Good to see Twc back out scaring the natives!
TWC is easily the most infectious car of the fleet, and I mean that in the best way. Whenever you go for even a short hoon in her, she just brings all the smiles. Thanks Ian, you've made my day much brighter.
This is brilliant Ian seeing Tuc out and about again, it must have made her day as it almost looked like she was smiling at the end. I guess it's a sign that I'm getting old but at least one person remembered the Invacar when I wore my Tuc t shirt to work a few weeks ago. Others thought I was just a bit mad, maybe both are true.
The Invacar is definitely my favourite of your car pool! It's the most crazy one and makes a Reliant look like a Volvo when comparing the two. But you are absolutely crazy driving TWC at 50 mph on thrsre è
I remember a guy who lived next town 6 miles away. He would bomb around in his in car at very high speed. I thought is was so cool as a kid. His had the 10 inch mini wheels. My 1956 oval Beetle i owned used to do the oil smoke after sittng a while over winter. I love air cooled motors. I have bought a 412 VW and soon in the pipe line a Tatra 603.
Nice to see an old Dynastart still in use. Did you know that Valeo have brought the concept back? they have a series of products called IBSG that are start-stop motor, alternator, and mild hybrid assist all in one unit. It's also the main drive motor in the Citroen Ami (2022 variant)
Procrastination is probably your next favorite activity next to tinkering on your cars. especially when procrastination involves TWC or double chevrons 💗
Glad you’ve got your voice back, more importantly TWK’s rolling, and even more importantly than that, the MASSIVE smile on your face ! Excitedly expecting a Chemmy update soon! When’s the Sana departing ? Keep ‘em comin’!
I do remember these in the 1970's but disabled were rarely seen out and about, NHS wheelchairs weren't the height of luxury either, it wasn't really till the middle/late 1980's thing began to change, the charity motability came about and thing have drastically changed since then, you definitely couldn't get a good modern wheelchair in TWC though. Great to to see TWC out and about again Mr HubNut.
Oh, the feeling when you're back in your favorite car after winter break... the seasonal registration on my Seat Marbella starts today and I don't have its suspension back together yet. Next week, i'll get this feeling back! Thanks for the motivational part, I really enjoyed another run in TWC!
Glad you got TWC out for a drive. She deserves a complete service over the summer. A shame to see the Camry sitting there. It will, given time, be properly repaired. Thank you very much for the update Sir HubNut.
boxer engines often display those cold start up oil plumes . Same on a BMW R motorcycle. Even the BMW K100 (flat inline 4) did the same thing. It happens because after the engine is shut off the (hot)oil film on the cilinder walls runs down to the lowest point in the bores where it accumulates and cools off. Then when you do the next cold start that pooled oil burns off. No biggy.
In the early 1970s, after a gig, i had a lift in the back of one, hugging a pair of spotlights from Elephant & Castle all the way to Colliers Wood. I knew three friends who all had these amazing little cars. I mean, i've driven lawn mowers with bigger engines. The thing is, like most things if used properly, they were perfectly safe, same as the Robin Reliants. So out of interest, what is their miles per gallon? I mean at one time i had a moped that only did 38mph, but gave me my independance and that did 153 miles per gallon and 15 miles on reserve and possibly 2 miles on fumes in the fuel pipe.
I’ve just been watching someone who did John'o Groats to Lands End in a Peel P50 for children in need and thought wouldn't it be fun to do a Totally Inappropriate Car Rally like say around the NC500 for charity with cars like the P50, TWC, G-Whiz and so on
I can proudly say that I've sat in TWK when she was in the NEC classuc car show a few years back. To say it's basic inside us an understatement!! Ian I really don't know how you can get such speeds out of an invicar!
I am from US across the pond. I would love to have tuwc as a disabled veteran in a wheel chair and have difficulty feeling with my feet those hand controls are great. I wish we had those for sale here powered by tesla battery!
The ideal family three wheeler, a Reliant robin or Rialto estate..my dad had them for years.......i would never allow him to pick me up from school when he finished early on a friday ....Now..i want one
You are a better man than I, Gungadin! TWK looks a load of fun, but man, that seating position looks painful on the shoulders. Always fun to watch, though. Keep up the good work, Ian.
Still remember seeing these things for real running around when I was a lad. Lol

The thought of people seeing TWC on the road and having a "What the hell was that?" moment never gets old...

TWC is 50 this year. She deserves something special!
TWC is the only reason I subscribed to this channel.
Love seeing TWC in action, great little drive Ian.

Great to see TWC coming out for a spin, it seems to shift a bit too, I remember seeing many of these cars in the 70s and into the early 80s as a lad
Can't beat a bit of TWC speeding along the lanes! Thank you for the update. She certainly puts a smile on your face.

This is good quality procrastination. I approve!
Such a happy little car! So much character!
Great to see you enjoying your lovely Invacar.
It feels good to see you happy and relaxed in your preferred three wheeler... See ya --- Martin
I remember seeing loads of AC Invacars stored at Taggs Island having been built at the nearby Thames Ditton factory.
The hoodie in brown has something monastic about it. Like a Franciscan car mechanic.
When she first starts, those bell-like dings and sudden pops are a big laugh. She’s very talkative.
Always good to see TWC in action, looks like so much fun 😀
So good to see Tuk whizzing along. I love all her noises and the grumpy post-winter slumber breaking start! Great video Ian

You're absolute legend sir. Pleasure to watch it!
Woohoo, Ian has been out for a jolly good ride in TWC the Invacar to blow away the cobwebs & have a great time.
My lawnmower was like this after not using it for 5 months. When i finally got it started the smoke cleared up afterwards.
THANKS FOR THE SHOUT OUT MR HUBNUT 😀
Good old TWC. Brings out the "Toad of Toad Hall" in you.
I simply adore TWC. Absolutely lovely to see her out and about. And... 70 mph... You, sir, are completely mad, and I think it's brilliant.
Fascinated with those doors. Great to see her out again
'Passenger carrying is forbidden' that reminds me of my Raleigh Chopper every time I see it.

The pride of the HubNut fleet…. Really hope to meetTWC one day!
Just love this little car more and more.
My wife's grandad had an Invacar and put it on its side, my grandad did the same with his Reliant van. Shows how suited we were for each other!
Not been my greatest day today, but am better for a bit of TWC therapy, thanks.
Oh I like the clunk of the centrifugal clutch on this one! If only more cars had that and you could tell people that it was perfectly normal 😎

Growing up in Portsmouth , I remember there was a garage of sorts where there must have been about 10 invacars outside .

Have you seen Oxford Diecast have recently introduced a 1.76th scale model of an Invicar to their range?

TWC is back . excellent ! I love the headline estate of the nation too. Would you consider a TWC badge
Do love a Tuc vid...my favourite being when you drove through the rainstorm with no window in your door ....hilarious 😆😆😆😆
All us hub nutters look forward to a twc drive.
A TWC video. My day has suddenly improved immensely.
TWC the best car on your fleet , Great to see her in action again
I'm really hoping to see the Toyota getting sorted soon too! Hooning around in that will be 'all of the good times' methinks.
Yes! TWC out in the sunshine and flying about. Love it.
Good old Twc :) She always reminds me of an episode of Juliet Bravo in the 80s where some troubled kid steals one and is chased by the police :)
Good stuff Ian, what a legend TWC is, take care to all.

That first video where you did 60 in it was one of the most gripping things I've seen on UA-cam. Great to see it back.

I find the dynastart fascinating, the same way that some trucks use compressed air, and tractors using shotgun cartridges! 😁

Best wishes to you all.
I never tire seeing little TWC. Great to see her on the road again. 😁 Also Happy Betty day for April the 1st
TWC seems to take corners really well!
On the video 50 miles per hour in TWC looks and sounds like it is terrifying. I can't imagine what 70 is like!

Excellent. You have an amazing collection of what my Dad would call “Death Trap Motors,” which wouldn’t be a bad name for a UA-cam channel.
Had my 1st drive in Agatha on the weekend since October 21, I know how your joy feels!

That sounds always funny when you give revs and then comes that loud KLANG from the centrifugal clutch. 😄
