Had a sternum fracture when I was 11 while playing football. Used to wrap myself with a ace bandage and suffered (I didn't want to tell anyone 🙄). Found out it was a small sternal fracture at the end of the season (I played 7 games). Just the bounce from jogging hurts. Smh....
I have sternum fracture in car accident, first week was painful but 2 week it’s getting better. I slept in Couch and use me foot finger under Couch as Support to get up from Couch. One hand at my chest. 1000mg Painkillers tablet for 3 to 4 times a day. Stay safe
I feel getting out of the shower and hit the top of the tub which was three feet from the shower. I went for an X-ray to a small town ER since we were out of the state when this happened. I was told nothing was broken and they put in an IV and filled me full of three pain meds, one being morphine. I was sent back to the hotel room with Tylenol #3. I was in so much pain the next morning and the pain med didn't help at all. I had a long ride home so I got plenty of ice and pillows and a cooler full of beer and this is how my husband got me home. I went two days later to another Dr that I had known for years and when he walked in the room his first words were you have two that a broken and one fractured. I got so upset mainly because no one believed me. He showed me the X-ray and it was clear they were broken. I had also developed an awful chest infection that required a round of antibiotics with little difference noticed. So I was placed on a stronger antibiotic and a stronger pain med. Cough syrup, Prednisone, breathing machine and told to ice and rest. So after two weeks my ribs were much better but I still had this pain at the sternum. I'm going tomorrow for a mri or CT scan to check the sterum because something is definitely not healing. It's been six weeks now. I'm concerned that I have a lung injury or heart problem going on. I hope you are feeling better.
how frustrating! It’s hard to imagine how they missed the rib fractures in the first doctors office. It also sounds very serious, having breathing problems and developing what sounds like pneumonia adjacent to the injured area. The CT is definitely a great idea. I would have a lot bigger peace of mind just knowing what is going on. and then the question becomes, if there is a bigger injury to the lung, what kind of doctor should you see. Believe it or not, the doctors who specialize in these types of injuries are cardiothoracic surgeons. These doctors are most famous for doing heart bypasses, but they’re also Lung doctors, and they’re the ones who are generally called in for drama. If you need a referral, oddly enough, it should be to a heart surgeon.
I fell against a sharp countertop breaking My sternum, right above my heart hurts horribly. It has been 5 weeks and still in terrible pain, especially laying back, breathing, coughing etc. I just recovered from pneumonia because it hurts so bad to cough. How did an athlete play with a sternum break? I have had 14 broken bones in my life. This break and the femur are the most painful. Ugh
I am still in horrible pain, after rib fractured over my heart. I have had 3 bouts of pneumonia since I broke my rib sterum. . My Dr is sending me to get another M.R.I. 😫 I am a heart patient and have had two Miocardial Infarctions in the last 3 years. I now have stents at the age of 56. My first M.I. I was 53 yrs old. I also have Congestive Heart failure 💔 Thanks to you and your interview with the Dr. I will ask my Dr about a cardiac contusion. Thank You so much. 💓
Was in a car accident over 2 months ago.. I experience pain in my sternum bone/left side on collar bone on a daily basis. I have iced, heat, and rested since then.. nothing is working. Should I consider it to be possibly broken or bone dislocation?

My goodness that sounds painful. Fourteen broken bones? Have you been tested for osteoporosis?
@@BestPracticeHealth Yes, I was diagnosed with it. I also have osteoarthritis and Osteochondromas.
I know and the worst of it is the Dr.s are afraid to write for pain meds the Dea has them scared shitless
