There will not be much USA Technology in it by 2023. Trump and Congress have ensured that. Acting like ass holes the USA has banned selling the raw materials for the Composite Wings etc. and also stopped them buying it from Japan or any European Nation by way of USA Secondary Sanctions. In due course the Prat and Whitney engine will not be used either. Russias new PD 14 engine has come up as expected in Tests. Is about 2% better in fuel efficiency than the P and W, is lighter and simpler will cost less and be 10/15% cheaper to maintain. Operating costs overall should be about 10/25% lower than the 737Max. Having to start producing the fibres in Russia has delayed it going into production by about 6 months. No big Technical Problem. Russia can make the composite fibres but there will be a delay. Thats Trump and Congress. No honour. Any dirty trick to help protect Boeing from Competition. Nasty little boys and girls. The USA got there answer. The Pratt and Whitney will not be used after a few years. The aim is to replace all USA components.
What are you talking about, the current US President is quite happy to work together with Russia's leadership. If only he were as happy to fulfill his oath of office.
The plane is likely very good but when customers buy Boeing or Airbus they aren't just buying a plane. They become part of a huge network of logistical support to supply parts and maintenance. The Russians can't offer anything even close to these networks so they will struggle to sell any of these aircraft unless they operate in Russia or a neighboring country. Russia will have to provide financing.
I think the target market isn't going to be large North American Europen or Middle Eastern airlines, instead I think they will focus on selling for former Soviet states China and South East Asia.
classicMaxReviews Possibly some African-based airlines as well, particularly the ones who operated Russian-made aircraft like the Ilyushin IL-62 and others.
classicMaxReviews wishful thinking, China is developing its own single Isle aircraft so there's no reason to think that the Russian version will popular in China or even Asia. No a handful of former Soviet states might buy it but it won't sell in large numbers.
I spent many years as a US Naval Aviator, so I know a thing or two about aircraft. This is a beautifully designed aircraft, produced by a partnership of quality manufacturers, and seems to have very good specs. The only thing that will hamper sales is the maintenance infrastructure. If that can be solved, this aircraft could ( and should ) give Boeing and Airbus some good competition. I personally would love to fly on one.
I've always been fascinated by Soviet/Russian planes. The MC-21 is another intriguing and I find, very beautiful aircraft. Many thanks for a very informative presentation. Working together is definitely for the best.
Good luck with the new airliner. I fly a lot, and would be glad to give it a try. Russian aircraft have often shown solid design, and genuine creativity,.....but you will have some Very Tough competition. VERY glad to see you included the little TV screens on the back of the seats, I just flew two lengthy flights with United Airlines.....they removed them, pushed the seats closer together to carry more cattle, served NO FOOD. Worst flights of my life. Be good to your customers, and you will surely be rewarded, I'll Never Fly United Airlines Again, even if they have a good ticket price.
Hello aboctok. One flight was San Francisco to Honolulu (737) and the next leg was Honolulu to Guam (777) I would guess the first was about 4-5 hours, the second 6-7 hours. I was very bummed out, I cross the Pacific from California to Asia 4 times a year. The movies and food (and nice friendly, helpful stewardesses) make the flight much more bearable. Both of these flights had neither....I couldn't believe I was flying a Triple 7 with no movies. They wouldn't even give me an extra blanket, as the plane was quite cold inside, and furthermore their blankets are smaller and made of cheaper material than any I've ever experienced. And food? NOTHING. Instead of a meal or two, the captain announced they would sell you a cheeseburger for 12 dollars. United was the TOTAL OPPOSITE of JAL, KAL, ANA, Cathay Pacific, Thai Airlines, they all treat you like a king,-extra snacks if you ask, decent food, and very polite friendly crew. I don't know if United is this bad on the shorter flights in the USA. But I was just plain shocked at how bad these 2 flights were, and the other passengers all felt the same. United? NEVER Again.
The plane is actually wider than most in its class and the widest if I remember correctly, so there is more room for the passengers but not enough to add more passengers. (Only leg room wise) so that means it basically promises wider seats.
I dread to think... I already struggle with airline seats at the best of times... But if even relatively small people are starting to complain... Yeah, that's no fun at all...
I can not even fly Commercial anymore. I need to book on specific types: 747-400, 747-8/747-8I, 777-800/B77W, 787-9, A340-600, A350-900/A350-1000, A380-800 and in First-class Suites or double booking seats for myself; since I am so tall (6'7"/2.04m/204.21cm). I simply cannot help how I grew up. That is on domestic flights-only. I can not even imagine going International by myself; let alone with 6 others(my wife and children). American-domestic Airlines really do not even like me, since I am part of the LEOFA Program*. LEOSAs fly armed with our sidearms(yes concealed on us); domestically to assist in the shortage of Air Marshals. Same reason Pilots got allowed to get qualified to fly domestically whilst armed. Commercial Pax Aircraft being so small really defeats the purpose of even having the program. LEOFAs have to plan days to weeks ahead (with our Agencies/TSA/FAA/DHS/the Airline), before we even think, about setting foot into an Airport alone. That is for them to have me in a seat with a strategic and/or tactical overview of the plane, cockpit and other passengers and to not be shot outright (by Airport-assigned LEOs/Air Marshals). I simply do not get trying to pack cattle. It makes in-air travel even less secure from attacks or unruly passengers/flight staff/pilots. I would have to open fire over/around/above other innocent passengers and flight staff to neutralize an in air threat on smaller planes. Now, factor in stress, emotions and adrenaline from me actually having to "go" in an air situation, as well. LEOSAs, participate and go through the program voluntarily (with our own money to pay for the abbreviated Air Marshal-type training), as a courtesy to the Airlines/Airports; for extra safety during flights.*
Very much looking forward to the English version videos on Il-18, An-2, Caravelle & Co. I really like your focus on civil aviation and industry trends. Well done, Sky!
The nasty comments here tell me that there are some very nervous people here. The piece of the pie is about to get smaller and this brings out the color green.
Oh, don't worry. Plenty of us hate Americans too. XD Of course, that's neither here nor there, but eh... Just, since America is our 'ally' and Russia is not, America still does a pretty good job of antagonising a lot of it's 'allies' anyway. Mostly with extreme arrogance... Anyway, whatever. It's all really petty, but when countries have petty arguments, people suffer. So... We could do without that really.
either boeing or airbus need to be nervous about that plane. its maybe good they have other markets than russia. and technologie of this companis is still better.
I say it's a big improvement for the Russian aircraft industries. Even those wings look like the are from the 1990s but it completely composite fiber. The real aircraft that's going to make a change is the that lighter or faster. As long as the plane is safe(fly by wire and hydraulic) it will give a better ego to Russia's aviation. In my opinion I would rather buy the MC21-300 instead of the A321neo(more of the centerline competitor). Boeing really needs to make a new design of an airplane because they last design from scratch they made was the 787 back in the 2008.
Will never happen now for decades. Since this Trump and Congress acting like the assholes they are have blocked Russia buying the Composite Fibres in the USA, Japan and Europe. No big technical problem but it has been delayed while Russia sets up there own Factory. The Russian response will be to have no US Parts or Components in it by 2023. If it is a big success Russia and China will produce it. Russia has not really got the manpower to produce hundreds every year. Simple answer would be to build a Factory in China and take a big slice of Boeing and Airbus sales in China. This sort of belligerence is going to cost the USA a lot in the future. They also are not going to use the P and W engine past 2023. Russia's PD 14 in Testing has come up better.
It could have happened but the USA was too arrogant in 1990 when the USSR broke up. It will never happen now that the USA has broken every second treaty. Put Sanctions on Russia continually. Even tried to sabotage this Aircraft with Sanctions since this was made. Moved NATO to there border etc. Russia will go with China now and all the Brick Nations. India etc. At least they can be trusted. The USA is not worth wasting there time on.
It's a collection of plagiarized works from the USA and France. While Russia will be proud of their assembly work, they'd be playing out of their league against the MAX and NEO. No US airline would give it any bit of consideration.
FloatingGoat new wing designs for e.g. in the 787 or the 747-8 don’t require winglets and give you the same amount of savings in terms of fuel. And that also means a little less turbulence.
@@dimitriskaligeris5506 eh not really...many carriers care about a few things: - fuel consumption - range - ease of maintenance and parts interchangeability Many operators will prefer a smaller plane that trades passengers for fuel as it will give them more flexibility if flights do or don't sell out. The A220 is already cannibalizing some of the A320neo imo (and obviously the 737). The Embraer lacks the range of these, but is supposedly more fuel-efficient and somewhat cheaper to produce with a 'good-enough' range. Factoring in that the majority of operators are trained to repair Boeing/Airbus aircraft and the public perception of Russian planes (whether deserved or not), it's gonna be a TOUGH sell to any operator unless its significantly cheaper than a Boeing or Airbus...and I have my doubts they can make it that much cheaper. We also don't know what the fuel consumption will be for this jet. It'll need to operate comparably to even be competitive.
Very informative commentary. The discussion of support infrastructure is especially enlightening and explains why the 737 Max can be competitive even with inferior specifications and higher price.
@@dominikprymus2149 will you be the first one to climb that plane and take the ride to show us its reliability? id hate that feeling during the flight when even slightest strange sound or plane movement because of the wind make your bones freeze...
As a customer of airplane companies ..namely the low cost ones, I can not but be happy for More competition on this area that is much much needed. Also let's not forget that Both Airbus and Boeing have combined about 12.000 airplanes on order ... no one can order a new airplane and expect to received it at best in the end 2021 ... this of course If the current Options to buy more are not executed ... in that case expect delivery in 2022/23 ... So this is nice market for new airplanes to compete. Also let's not forget that the listed 110M$ is the List price for the Airbus A320 Neo (price also differs a lot with options). No one pays that price since most order are much higher then one airplane ... Actually the biggest orders have been made for example by IndiGo ... in 2011 their made the worlds biggest commercial aircraft order to that date : 155 A320's Airplanes... then in 2014 they broke their own World record with and order of ... 250 A320's !! and ... not happy with that in 2016 they broke their own record again : take a seat: 500 A320's brand new airplanes!! Yup ... 500! World Biggest Ever commercial aircraft Order ...undisclosed price but I bet Way Lower then the listed 110M ... And yes folks ..that's the kinda guys you have to compete in order to get a airplane ... this is all good news to the MC-21 ... I must add that RyanAir has 350 new 737 on order also ...
Actually Airbus is the best plane around no doubt's about it ..I simply tend to promote competition. that's healthy in a marketplace. I, as a Customer of airline companies and traveler, aim to get the Lowest price possible on a ticket ...and part of that is to take out the 110Million USD$ out of the price tag on say a A320 Class airplane ... Competition Makes that ... Airbus, Boeing will not even try to come up with ways to lower the prices ..that is more efficient airplanes ... if they do not have competition.
I am wondering, although being more efficient and cheaper than an A320 or a 737, why the hack do airlines still prefer buying the A320 or 737. I mean, what are these additional benefits? Does anybody know?
It's mentioned in the video. Familiarity, maitenance services, support, everything that comes after the sale. You'd need a massive effort to build that in the USA for a russian company, and I don't know if they are able to do it right now, specially when the authorities that decide upon allowing an actor enter the industry are always under political control.
(everthing else aside) There are certain caveats with a plane that is *totally* new. Whatever airlines save if they buy the MC-21 will just be used for pilot re-training, new simulators, maintenance crew retraining and everything else. A320 and 737 has been there since forever, they have the entire system figured out to keep these planes up and running.
Mostly it's about getting parts. Russia doesn't have a good relationship with the West and if a western country would buy this plane and then suddenly Russia or another country places sanctions on imports or exports the airline won't be able to get parts for their aircraft, that's why you see mostly countries that are in a good relationship with Russia purchasing their planes. Also it takes a long time for a company to build up it's reputation that it's trust worthy. The aircraft market is incredibly hard to break into. Would you spend millions of dollars just to find out in a year or two you're not able to get any parts because sanctions are in place?. It's extremely risky to buy from a company that's new to passenger aircraft market, it took Airbus almost 20 years to prove it's self and to fully break into a worldwide market, for Russia it's gone be twice as hard to break into the market because a lot of countries simply don't trust Russian companies. I always laugh when I see these comments saying "Oh that's it Boeing and Airbus are done because Russia started building passenger aircraft again". These people don't realize how hard it's gone be for this Russian company to break into the worldwide market.
MC21 is a good plane, glad to see that Russia and Western countries came together to build something. Good luck to Irkut. but to be honest, Irkut are far away to replace Airbus and Boeing.
Skyships, could you do a 2020 update on this aircraft? Like how many have been made, when might it come up for sale, the situation with the engines (I read there are sanctions of the P&W engines and they are making one with PD-14 already).
8:04, as a Brit, Thank You! But politics aside, do you think the fact that the plane is Russian will hurt its sales? I mean, imagine United Airlines ordering some Russian plane made by a company you can't pronounce. Nice video as per the usual, keep this up!
Flyer Killer Even nowadays, Americans can't pronounce foreign brands. They just all agree on an incorrect pronunciation and roll with it. It's more about confidence in pronouncing the name than it is about getting it right. Companies also roll with it to cater to their customers. One example is Mazda, who changed their name's spelling (supposed to be Matsuda) for the American market.
To be honest, your right, when some other airline starts routing them to the US or they market it very well to some LCC, they will probably eventually be able to sell some to one of the more major carriers. And to clarify I meant Yakovlev, or I suppose UAC will be the company is would be marketed under to keep things simple.
PW is an engine option on the MC-21. Even better would be winglets. After MAXgate, I can wonder if this airplane will be safe, reliable, and efficient.
@@vatnikxxi7717 We'll see if it's safe, reliable, and efficient. Can almost guarantee it won't sell really big worldwide, but that doesn't mean it won't sell.
Some airlines have abandoned the Superjet 100, because it has a lot of foreign parts and the French "hot part" of the engine, which does not meet the warranty period. The French partners do not deliver spare parts on time and therefore the aircraft are forced to stand idle on the ground for a long time. This is not the problem of the Superjet, it is the problem of the French company Safran (as well as other Western contractors who disrupt the delivery of spare parts). This says a lot about the reliability of some international corporations, but not about the Superjet. Now this problem has been solved - the Russian Aviation Corporation has created a large warehouse of spare parts and most importantly a large engine warehouse. Now you do not need to wait for spare parts from the French, but you can put a "replacement" engine for the duration of the repair.
I really look forward to seeing some new Russian aircraft out there in the world. PS: JetBlue’s A320-200 is a lot more comfortable than Southwest’s 737-800 or 737 MAX 8. Fight me.
Well, this airliner doesn't have much of a future seeing that Russia relies on an overwhelming amount of parts from outside Russia. With Russia being the new North Korea I would bet we won't see this aircraft any time soon at airports around the world.
There are work is underway on import substitution of MC-21 parts. Russia is too big, too rich in recourses and has too good relationships with a biggest world's economy and third world's economy to be so poor and helpless as North Korea is.
Great video - and thanks for reminding us that we are all members of the earth, no matter what our politicians and their lobbyists might think. Looking forward to the next :)
One of the most complete and unbiased video about this beautiful airplane. It was very clear in presenting the facts as they are withouth making the mistake that many youtubers do when presenting things build in that or this country as an inferior or superior. I am totally agree with the author when he states that engineers should work together regardless of their origin country. Furthermore I think that if it was the case we would be more advanced that we are today. The science man and women must rule the world instead of stupid politicians. They, together would work for humanity, instead of just profits approach.
Beautiful plane, no idea why so much hate. I would have no problem flying on it. Just as long as Economy class as sufficient legroom. I could not give a damn about the rest.
Nobody in the West trusts Russians in this day and age. Also, Russian commercial aircraft have a mediocre track record, even the newer ones. Read up on how Interjet is doing with their superjets; I bet they wished they had never bought them in the first place.
I really do hope the best to this plane, it seems great and also very good looking. As the S100 did, I hope this one also finds a place in the market, specially in the Latin American one. Interjet’s Superjet 100’s are far more confortable than the A320 that the airline also operates, and although they had problems with the vertical stabilisers, they soon prove being great liners. The same shitty company (Rockwell Collins) that did the avionics for the Boeing 737 Max did the cockpit for this plane. A real shame. Hopefully not too many people will end up dying as a result.
its nice to see that US and Russian companies can work together to build fine modern day aircraft.. too bad country leaderships cant come together at the same level. politics is such a chore and a tax on existance, literally!
Pratt and Whitney is Canadian
@@Muscovy7 Hamilton Sun is from USA... Watch at 7:40
There will not be much USA Technology in it by 2023.
Russia hasn't been able to come to such friendly terms with a single Western country. If any 1st world nation at all?
What are you talking about, the current US President is quite happy to work together with Russia's leadership. If only he were as happy to fulfill his oath of office.
The plane is likely very good but when customers buy Boeing or Airbus they aren't just buying a plane. They become part of a huge network of logistical support to supply parts and maintenance. The Russians can't offer anything even close to these networks so they will struggle to sell any of these aircraft unless they operate in Russia or a neighboring country. Russia will have to provide financing.
John Ferguson wow cap
Some time ago China represented nothing of itself, and look at this country now! The road of thousand miles starts from the first step.
I like the way he said " fast flights and soft landing you " .... 😇😇🙏... Thankyou for sharing 🙏🙏
Very well done video... Professional and thorough intro to this new aircraft.
I've always been fascinated by Soviet/Russian planes. The MC-21 is another intriguing and I find, very beautiful aircraft. Many thanks for a very informative presentation. Working together is definitely for the best.
MC 21 IS A SISTER OF MY FAVORITE PLANE MIG 21 AND THX 4 POSTING !
(Only leg room wise) so that means it basically promises wider seats.
hey Patrick, it's a good thing they included engines...
The hatred for Russians is amazing. I wonder if Americans know that we can also read in English. 🤔
Oh, don't worry. Plenty of us hate Americans too.
XD
Of course, that's neither here nor there, but eh...
Go fuck yourself!
@@sebs.3917 i disagree with the "technologie of this companis is still better" thats not true since UAC has easely chaught up.

I agree with your comment at 8:00. Screw the Politicians on both sides of the Bering Strait.
Have to admit the MC-21 have the best front end design in its class.
Boeing really needs to make a new design of an airplane because they last design from scratch they made was the 787 back in the 2008.
this guy's accent varies almost as much as mine. this guy's great . Go skyship go.
I'd give a hundred thumbs up for Russia and U.S. working together. Give a thumb up if you agree.
Please explain, the aircraft manufacturers working together, suppliers in the West working with the Russians??????
@Thinker , ага Ту-144 полетел раньше Конкорда, а до Ту-144 уже был Т-4 (100). F-35 содрали с ЯК-140
Sales and support networks are needed. Good ones!
Can imagine the MOscow NEw York version.
But the Cost of Purchase are way lower than a 738 max.

Wow, this plane looks like some great competition for the NEO and “MAX”. I hope I get to ride this beauty with Aeroflot some day.
It's a collection of plagiarized works from the USA and France. While Russia will be proud of their assembly work, they'd be playing out of their league against the MAX and NEO. No US airline would give it any bit of consideration.
It is an honor to fly one of these birds👍👍

I worked at Douglas when the seat pitch was 44 inches, a full 12 inches more than todays high density layouts.
Nice looking plane . Good video .City Jet , Ireland are pleased with their Su 100s .
Thats because they leased them all to Brussels. After sales care is hampering the SJ 100s reliability when there is no one to maintain them.
Mexico's Interjet doesn't think the same...
Not gon lie, it looks beautiful.
The MC-21 looks a fine example of Russian engineering. I wish the makers every success for worldwide sales.
Fine example of stealing technology from Boeing, all they did was the name, MC21
Speaking about Rockwell Collins avionics, why didn't you mentioned the 4th "brother" with identical cockpit - Bombarier C-series?
Does anybody know why the russian planes are not equipped with winglets? It can't cost that much more and the fuel savings are pretty important :/
FloatingGoat new wing designs for e.g. in the 787 or the 747-8 don’t require winglets and give you the same amount of savings in terms of fuel. And that also means a little less turbulence.
I know that, but on the SSJ and the MC-21, they don't have the same design on the tip
MC-21 wing is a composite wing, like 787 wing. Composite wing does not require winglets. For SSJ winglets are currently in development.
They are only capable of creating crude bootleg copies.
Learn what a composite wing is; you caveman!
SKY your the best at what you do.
This plain is amazing love it.
I love the front end windshield look.
Make a video about Embraer, please.
Andrei This video is for mc 21 from UAC , Embraer 195 belongs to lower regional jet category , similar with sukhoi sulerjet 100
Guys, we will make a videos about the regional jet after, don't worry)
@@dimitriskaligeris5506 eh not really...many carriers care about a few things:
- fuel consumption
- range
- ease of maintenance and parts interchangeability
Many operators will prefer a smaller plane that trades passengers for fuel as it will give them more flexibility if flights do or don't sell out.
@@jonathanpusar5931 A220 canibalize some of A320neo no, they make good call with A220 because revamp A319 means less cost to A320neo program

The MC-21 has awesome lines coming off the nose.
Outstanding narrative of the aircraft!
It's defenitly missing some winglets or wingtips.
max chilla yep, I was just about to say that
Like he stated, the wings are made of composites so the vortices are dampened without winglets.
Mountain Whale you’re actually correct.
Gonk Droid The construction material has nothing to do with the air flow around the wing
turbofan ct I was saying that because Carbon composites flex more without breaking. So winglets are not needed.
Did I see the rudder on the Il96 flex back and forth when you showed it landing?
I am wondering, although being more efficient and cheaper than an A320 or a 737, why the hack do airlines still prefer buying the A320 or 737. I mean, what are these additional benefits? Does anybody know?
A320 and 737 are familiar. Arilines are working with the Boeing and Airbus for a long time. And financial theme, also)
Commision....
Yakovlev bureau does not work on the MC-21 projekt. Irkut (as UAC subsidiary) only!
Doe it have a Russian version of the Mass Casualty Activation System?
in Sowjet Russia, you kill MCAS.
MC-21 is a competitor for 737 Max , A320Neo and Comac C19 BUT WHERE EMBRAER 190E2
MC21 is a good plane, glad to see that Russia and Western countries came together to build something. Good luck to Irkut. but to be honest, Irkut are far away to replace Airbus and Boeing.
Would be interesting to know whether there will be more orders for the MC-21 now
Perfect competitor for now.
A320neo production is saturated for next 6-7 years, MAX8 is disabled.
Go for it.
Hahahaha... Airlines would better wait for 5 years than buy this junk without spare parts and without any service system.
What company we can't pronounce?)
Trash4Cash Companies Midwesterners can't pronounce.
Economy solves everything. 10 years ago nobody in US couldn't pronounce Chinese phone-producers brands)
With the whole self inflicted Boeing 737 Max debacle, the prospects for the MC-21 are looking better and better every day.
Looks VERY CS 100 ish....Good looking aircraft
thats a good thing imo, CS series (now a220) is probably the future of medium/short haul, its also so efficent passenger and airline friendly
NICE PLANE I LIKE IT AND THX 4 POSTING !
if P&W, or GE & or RR were engine options, I'd give this a serious look!
PW is an engine option on the MC-21. Even better would be winglets. After MAXgate, I can wonder if this airplane will be safe, reliable, and efficient.
@@ecoRfan We'll see.
Sounds like a winning way forward.
Please make a Boeing marathon. Cool video though!!
I love the fact that you can go to the bathroom while they are serving food.

Great job, sir. Always learn a lot from your videos.

Unbiased? There was almost no criticism. He is Russian if you didn't notice.
Cooperation not confrontation is what brings peace
