The snow and Hope scene is probably my fave in the game, because there's so much raw emotion in it. The voicing is incredible and the music really sets the mood. It's just perfect
It's just too easy to call Snow an idiot though given that Snow is 100% in the wrong cause he has no grand rebellion plan and DOES CARE; if Hope said this speech to any other rebel character or what not he'd be told to just shut up by both the audience and the character being yelled at being like "Well I don't see anyone else saving us you can't just stand around thinking that instead of complaining why don't YOU do something and quit whining it's not going to stop me"
one of my favourite in the whole franchise tbh, not just game. I mean, tell me like...3 scenes better than this one? I can name the Tidus and Yuna scene...that's about it?
In this Final Fantasy, Eidolons show up when you decide to give up. Hope isn't deciding to give up in this scene. If anything, he's more motivated than ever. Admittedly, he's motivated by a desire for revenge against someone who didn't do anything wrong but it's not the right emotional state for an Eidolon appearance. If anything, this could have been Snow's Eidolon release. It's not precisely the correct emotional state for it, but it's a lot closer than Hope's emotional state at the time. Also, I find it the epitome of hilarious that that airship decided to try and murder two L'Cie at the exact moment when one L'Cie was in the middle of trying to murder the other. They could have waited for Hope to land the blow and kill Snow, then fired and finished Hope off. But some overzealous Cocoon gunner just had to get that UAV killstreak, and so neither L'Cie ended up dead. Never interrupt the enemy when they are making a mistake: it's terribly rude and you can always take care of them after.
One of my favorite, if not my favorite, cutscenes in all of Final Fantasy history. The emotion in this scene from both characters is so incredibly palpable. Troy Baker and Vincent Martella do an AMAZING job reeling you into it all. Also, besides the dated textures, this game still looks incredible 10 years later.
Eventually Hope moves on and starts to trust Snow. But, Hope's mother made a choice. Her choice was to fight. Fight to protect her son, she may have died, but she wanted to keep her son from being Purged. Too bad Hope never figured that part out.
Hope already figured that out. He already knew his mother made the choice to fight against Sanctum, how Sanctum killed his mom, and how he shouldn't have hated Snow. However, Snow being the closest one to his mother when she died and his influence on her made Snow the target of Hope's hate. He knew it was wrong but had to put the blame on someone to not have a complete mental breakdown.
Hope was like a 13 year old kid here though. If any child saw their parent join a fight because someone inspired them and then their parent died, of course the child would shove all their grief onto that person. Hope didn't know how to handle his grief, like many other characters in FFXIII, and so simply blamed the closest person they could to give them something to aim that grief at aside from themself.
@@hyperion2841 Honestly blaming himself wouldn't help. It's not Hope's fault his mom ran off and got herself killed. She may have died to protect Hope, but it was her choice to make the sacrifice.
Such a good scene--from the beginning of the game, they build the confrontation up and you're waiting for the tension to break. Too often, passionate scenes feel like they come out of nowhere and feel awkward, but this one is set up perfectly.
@@DemetriusAniketos Except that that wouldn't have made the game interesting at all. Making Hope a dark or villainous character would've been a cheap way of denying him any real character development. Which would suck because Hope has (in my opinion) the best character development arc in the whole game. I'm so glad the writers actually tried instead of being like "ope, he's evil now". Like, what? Who, outside of edgy teens, thinks that this would be a good idea?
People give FF13 a lot of deserved flack, but no one can deny that this game had great character building. Both this scene and the one between vanille & sazh were both peak moments of this game. Great build-ups and payoffs.
Imagine how hard it must be to fight and work along side someone who you truly believe is responsible for your mom's death. Square enix story telling has really grown up over the years. I'm hyped for 16
Best scene in FF. Sure Aeris's death was a shock, but this scene didn't need a surprise to be epic. As a matter of fact, it was the opposite. the characters respond to one another with emotion that they have been either barely containing or hiding away and it all came out in this scene. So, yeah, I think this scene should be way up in the greatest scenes in FF history.

NeoTheChosenOne Final Fantasy 13 has a lot of well-written scenes, actually. Also, the character development is great too. While I think the comments about the convoluted narrative and hallway-esque game design are valid criticisms (even if the game opens up a TON later), I still wish more people would've given this game more of a chance. It's easily my favorite in the Final Fantasy series, and I've played almost every game, sans 12.
@RisenAngel17 I know right! I never figured it out until they had him with his voice high pitched..and then I was laughing at the fact that I was shocked. lol
@hurricane327 More like she is a fusion of the 2. When Lightning's character was in question they wanted to make a character that was like Cloud and Squall especially after having 2 very lighthearted main characters.

Why am I just noticing the parallel between Hope and Nora both being blown forward by an explosion? That just makes this so much deeper
...I totally just realized that Hope's voice is Phineas from Phineas and Ferb...huh
Oh shit it is
I didn’t even realize it until you guys brought it up

Anime Labyrinth ikr
Same but is it bad that I ship hope x snow. Sorry that I brought it up😫
April Pounds .....stop
This would've been perfect for Hope's Eidolon, in my opinion.
OMG is that Phineas' voice for hope as a kid?
I might have a little, itty bitty crush on Hope, he’s so cute!!!
Hope’s scream gives me chills everytime I watch this
Lighting and Fang together reminds me of Cloud and Zack at times LOL
Emerald LockHeart how so lol
Vanille and Fan bro

Will always my favorite chapter in the game!!! FF13’s release date still feels like yesterday for me

The best part of the game besides the end... and one of best moments in the FF history.

Snow an Absolute Monster of a Man with a heart of Gold
This scene was very well written.
This scene always stuck with me since I was a kid because I can relate to hope and his anger
lmfao hope sounds like phineas when he says mommy :3
Lumina Farron he is
This is why I love snow, always busting and charging through being the hero, not second guessing himself for his actions, AW YEAH!

@psychee1 Lightning is a girl version of either Squall or Cloud...I can't tell yet.
it's called "sustained by hate"
Fang is Lightning with a personality... my kinda woman.
.. Yeah, I think they kinda did that on purpose. Snow couldn't save Nora but he risks his life to save Hope even though he was about to kill him.

Its called "Sustained by Hate" if i remember right
Damn, tears won't stop
what is that orchestrated song called that plays severl times through out this part?
sustained by hate
I remember playing the first and second but not lighting returns but I watched it for everyone happy ending 😭
.. Kinda like his chance to make up for not being able to save Nora.
@kh2userx that's becuz Hope's VA is Phineas's LOL!

Please help wat is the name of the song when hope confront snow
"Sustained by Hate", sorry it took you this long to get a reply but you might've found it by now.
D: no way. that's so cool XD
If memory serves me right, Vanille is the only character that doesn't suffer domestic violence at the hands of Lightning.
So Fang and Lightning are just speaking in normal voices and PSICOM does nothing about it.
They forreal said, "If we pretend we don't see them, they won't hurt us."
Snow: Why doesn’t no one like my ideas?
Hope: BECAUSE YOU KILLED MY MOM!!!
Snow: SHUT UP HOPE!!!
500 years later hope leaves snow in charge of a city he leaves a cult to form a church and control the world
maybe explosion runs in the family lol
Sustained by Hate
