C3 Gas Tank Installation Tips

This is a video about how I installed the gas tank on my 1971 C3 Corvette. I show you a few alignment points and tips on how to get the tank gas filler neck aligned with the filler cover hole. I also talk about the correct way to install the support brace, bolts, and retainer straps.

I have a 69 and replaced the tank. How the hell do you get the strap all the way down? Using new straps and they are 3 or 4 inches short. Good video and good luck.

Are you using all the original bolts and hardware, except for the straps? Make sure you start with the bolts fully extended (nuts loosened). When you say “get the strap all the way down” do you mean getting it over the tank and down to the bottom support?

@@thedrivewayC3 I did it ass backwards lol. Put the tank in 1st then the straps. Now I'm gonna do straps with bolts loose and hook the tabs thru the support bracket and set in place to the frame.

@@joeapicelli8367 Sounds good. Note: the plastic “rattle guard” that the straps go through sits on the back of the tank (not the top edge). I’ve heard you can also get the straps down by using longer bolts if needed, then switch over to the original-length once the straps are formed to the right shape.

I need to order a new emergency inflater hose. My original hose has a crack in it, so it won't hold pressure.
