  • The Austronesian Language Family includes the Formosan languages of Taiwan and the various branches of the Malayo-Polynesian group which have spread from their homeland in South East Asia to Africa (Madagascar), Oceania & the Americas (Hawaii & Easter Island). The unique feature of this family is that all member languages and peoples are Island dwellers (except for a few Hesperonesian languages spoken in Vietnam)

The oldest attested Malay dialect is the Cham language, from the Dong Yen Chau inscription dated circa 400 AD. Already from this inscription, many words are recognizable in Modern Malay. In fact there are researchers who claim that Austronesians ruled Funan, the earliest kingdom in Southeast Asia. Madagascar was discovered by people who spoke Dayak language with possible mix of Javanese and Sanskrit, around 800 AD. The outrigger ship used by these explorers is depicted on the wall of Borobudur. Given the navigational superiority of these ancient Austronesians, it's not hard to imagine them exploring the Pacific with the intention of finding riches to trade with the Indians, Chinese, and Middle Easterners.

If you study balinese and mayan architecture, you will find many similarities, even balinese 'besakih temple' actually has same architecture as 'chichen itza' in mexico. Many step pyramid like architecture very rooted in austronesian (islander) people. Borobudur temple maybe build in gupta architecture from india but it is actually step pyramid. Other structure like candi sukuh and gunung padang in java which reveal indigenous austronesian architecture. If we get resources and fund in the future we should study the java sea, there must be hidden civilization there sunken when ice melts and eliminate sundaland some thousands of years ago during end of ice age era in 'sundaland'.

Alright, but it needs a little correction. Cham is not a Malay dialect. It is a different language. Cham belongs to Chamic languages subgrouping that includes Cham, Acehness and Tsat language. Otherwise, Malay belongs to Malayic language subgrouping that contains Malay, Minangkabau, Banjarese, Iban, urak lawoik etc language.
However, the two group are united in a larger group called malayo-chamic languages. But still Cham is a different language that literally closer to Acehness and Tsat rather than Malay.

For O2b origin, I think they are Hmong-Mien. O2a are Austroasiatic (natives peoples of Indochina) like Vietnamese Khmer Mon, they never move to southern China. Hmong-Mien are thier brother. Hmong maker are O3d and O2*. They moved from thier homeland at Yangtze river to Shandong. Huaxia called them "Dongyi (Ku-Li or Korea)". Thier king Chiyou was defeated by the yellow emperor. Today Korean claim Chiyou is thier hero too.
Yueshi culture at Shandong have O2b along with O3d.
Other natives of Yantze is Tai-Kadai (O1+O2). No evidence for confirm they came to north.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hmong-Mien_languages
Tai-Kadai (O2a O1) and Hmong-Mien (O3d O2) language related to Austronesian (O1) and Austroasiatic (O2a) under Macro Austric language theory than Sino-Tibetan (and not related to Altaic at all). Example. snake AN-Bay Hmong- nab (e) AA-Pud TK- Pea (maybe Korean-Beam and Japanese- Hebi) crane AN-Tak AA-Tuk HM-Tus TK-Tok (Korean-twulwo Japanese-Tadu).
If Jomon are Austronesian. Yayoi are Austric sure. They are brother at all.
I'm Thai. My brother Tai-Kadai lived together with Hmong-Mien in southern China today. Tai-Kadai have countries Thailand and Laos. But Hmong-Mien not (they are highest claver in SEA but only ethnic who don't have country).
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tai-Kadai_languages
I sure Korean can't accept this fact. Only you Japanese who want to related with we southeast Asians.

@@lostdracco6744 But you can say that about the Maoris, Tahitians and Tongans mixed with Papuans and whites, or the Fijians mixed with Indians. The reality of any group of people is to adapt; the "mix and swirl" has always happened. Polynesians and Melanesians are a mixed people at their inception. Polynesian DNA overall is majority Austronesian, with a very significant minority of Papuan and European markers.
Austronesians (Formosans, Filipinos and Malay-Indonesians) had to put up with a shit ton of brutal colonization and imperialism from Europeans, Americans, and non-Austronesian Asians like the Chinese, Arabs and southern Indians, who tried to destroy their languages and cultures over centuries in their own homelands. They also had loads of migrants from the Asian mainland who intermixed with them in urban areas over the last 300-500 years, mostly poor farmers from southern China, but yet they still maintained and preserved their culture, language, identity and heritage.
So it doesn't matter what you're mixed with, just maintain your cultures and languages in order to maintain your distinct identity. When you guys lose that, you lose everything.

Altaic is not disproven they are only criticisms about it and minor connections with Austronesian language family. Japanese and Korean are partially isolated with more connection to the Altaic language family than to Austronesian one. It is still considered part of Altaic family. @@flyingwhales1991 then what does really "pacific islander" and "asian" mean in terms of ethinicity or race?
Austranesians are mongoloids and generally, people refer mongoloids as asians but contemporarily asians are just those people who live in continent of asia, which includes non-mongloids like arabs, indians, bengalis, etc. Even pacific islanders are not just mongoloid, themselves because papuans and australians live in pacific as well.
Hence the two terms only refer to cultural circles nothing really specific about descent of different ethnicity.

in world, there are also another race, for instance mongolid, caucasoid, etc
if you think malayu, javanese, samoan, maori, etc are race, actually you're not wrong but it would be wrong said the people is different. all of that mini race has similarity in face, skin, hair, and other
actually the correct one for race is austronesian then it divides small or sub race like java, melayu, etc
but the right one is autronesian, because we can distinguish the people from their appearance, we can distinguish austonesian, melanesian, caucasoid, mongoloid, and other to see the differences of language, appearance, culture

This video is technically wrong. All the different Austronesian languages spoken outside of the island of Taiwan by the Taiwanese aborigines belong to a single branch - Malayo-Polynesian.
All the other indigenous Taiwanese languages spoken on the island of Taiwan, however, are of different branches. This goes to show how much the Austronesian languages have diversified on Taiwan and that relative to the time period these Austronesians have spent on Taiwan, their migration across the Pacific & Indian oceans are relatively recent.

Yeah I don't know, I'm Indonesian and I really hate it when people just assume that I'm 'asian'. Because when people say 'asian' they associate the word with the chinese, japanese, korean etc. We are not part of the sinosphere and we have different physical characteristics. We are only asian geographically just like the indians, pakistani and those people who are not in east asia.

we japanese are known para-austronesian. we are not typicall east-asian.
We are mix of the ancient Jomon people and Yayoi people.
Jomon are from southeastern asia, Yayoi from yangtze river located in eastern china.
we have also connections to native taiwanese and polynesian group.
japanese and austronesian languages are sister branch of the austric family.

All Austronesian speaking peoples ultimately came from the island of Taiwan; in fact, Taiwan has the highest diversity of Austronesian languages with all other Austronesian languages outside of Taiwan being part of the Malayo-Polynesian branch of the Austronesian family.
This shows that the Austronesians have had a fairly long history in Taiwan (long enough for their language to diverge into many different branches) before they migrated south towards the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, west towards Madagascar and east towards the Pacific Islands / New Zealand.

Thanks for sharing! Here from Madagascar as well. And native Austronesian Malagasy Merina. You unfortunately do not have a picture if an Austronesian Malagasy native here, I can understand not even Google does Haha. I suggest you look one of my cousin picture former Miss Madagascar Madagascar "Domoina Rahobiniaina". Madagascar Natives are Austronesian pacific Islanders/polynesian and the Malagasy official language is Austronesian same as the language in Hawaii, Cook island, Easter island. Many Malagasy don't even know the history if our country but only the education and Western lies as always. We do have many immigrants in Madagascar. From South Asia, Southern Africa: African Ethiopian/Somalis/Bantu, Northern Africa: Arabs Moors, Ottoman, Turks already mixed with the African Malagasy our former slaves, we have Indians, Italians,Chinese, Japanese,Greek,Indo Pakistani, French descent from colonisation but natives are Austronesian and only about 25percent of the Population in Madagascar. The picture of the girl from Madagascar here, she is a Malagasy of mainland African descent (Ethiopian/Somalis), she is not a Malagasy natives not an Austronesian descent. South East Asian looking are very similar to the natives in Madagascar sometimes it us confusing but not in Body stature and face and they know they are not natives Merina, we call them Vakinakatra (South East Asian) and Betsileo (Indian Malay) It is just like your picture here of both President one is of Malagasy Austronesian descent "Marc Ravalomanana" and the other is of South Asian descent "Andry Rajoelina". By South Asian descent a mixed of Negritos, Chinese, Indian Malay same as people from Philippines and Indonesia, Malaysia today except those of Dayak ancestry : igorot, mindao Mindanao, Cebu, Javanese, Balinese ( if the last if them still survived we know that the Dutch killed them all but kept their culture), And Thai, Vietnam, Cambodia, Borneo, Laos they have been mixed with Chinese and Indians too from 600AD. Indian Buddhism invasion and Chinese colonisation of Indo-China. Perhaps there are still few natives whom are few left, like the case if Taiwan and Singapore the Austronesian natives are only 2percent of the population. The rest of Philippines/Indonesia were Negritos mixed with Chinese and Indians again and again. Thanks again for sharing!
