    Are dates bad for you?
Dates, despite being sweet and high in natural sugars, can be a healthy option even for diabetics when consumed in moderation. Here’s why:
    Nutritional Benefits
Natural Sugars: Dates contain natural sugars like fructose, glucose, and sucrose, which provide quick energy without the negative effects associated with refined sugars.
Fiber: Dates are high in dietary fiber, which helps slow down the absorption of sugar in the bloodstream, preventing spikes in blood sugar levels.
Vitamins and Minerals: Dates are rich in essential vitamins and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, copper, manganese, vitamin B6, and iron, which are beneficial for overall health.
    Glycemic Index (GI)
Dates have a medium glycemic index (GI) ranging from 35 to 55, depending on the variety and ripeness. Foods with a lower GI do not cause rapid spikes in blood sugar levels. This makes dates a better option for diabetics compared to high GI foods.
    Antioxidants
Dates are packed with antioxidants like flavonoids, carotenoids, and phenolic acid. These compounds help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, which are linked to chronic diseases, including diabetes.
    Portion Control
For diabetics, portion control is crucial. Consuming a small number of dates, typically 2-3 per day, can provide nutritional benefits without significantly impacting blood sugar levels.
    Studies and Research
Several studies have shown that consuming dates in moderation does not lead to significant increases in blood glucose levels for people with diabetes. For instance, a study published in the Nutrition Journal found that dates could be included in a diabetic diet in moderate amounts without adverse effects on blood sugar levels .

I add 2-3 dates (depending on their size) into my cancer fighting salad to add some sweetness. I buy dates with pits because those that are pitted can “dry out”; and I have experienced that. I just tear them in half, remove the pit and cut them into small pieces into my salad. I also add them to a smoothie made with sprouted oats, water and fruit; however, for the smoothie, I soak them in hot water to soften them up so they will blend better. Probably a VitaMix would do an excellent job but I do not have one of those. Any amount of time you can get them soaked to soften works - I’ve done 5 minutes when I’m short on time or you can do longer if you are on top of things. Thanks Annette!

Buy dates and put in food processor? I’m thinking that will just make goo. Buy processed date sugar? Would that have the same benefits? More info please.

Hi Annette! This is totally off subject, but I figured I'd ask you about the situation I'm in because I can't get clear information from anyone else. I'm hoping you can help. I've been exposed to toxic mold and have been sick for 5 months now. I'm doing a multitude of things to regain my health, but it's slow going. Do you have any information you can give me that will help. I can't afford to go to a holistic Dr. They don't take insurance, and one told me a 6-12month treatment plan would cost me up to 15k. What a pirate! Anyway, any help you can give me would be sooo much appreciated! Blessings to you, Annette!

Celtic sea salt. All your minerals but mostly it's a detox. I put 1 tablespoon in a half gallon of water each night before bed. 1 gallon total, actually. Careful, tho. In the beginning a bunch of toxins will end up I'm your gut giving you nausea. And if you don't eat much you could be peeing thru your butt.

@@sixpackbinky i am not diabetic. I just tell Annette that any kind of sweetness will affect blood sugar. The brain cannot tell the sweetness comes from STEVIA, monk fruit, dates or table sugar etc... If the tongue taste sweet, it will send the signal to the brain. And the brain will send signal to the pancreas to secrete insulin, no matter what kind of sweet it is.
      Thanks.

Just a thought.....you may have candida problems. I also can experience that with different sweet fruits. I have a confirmed candida problem. Sadly is was years ago from over prescription of antibiotics. Even though I can control it with a low carb diet I usually comes back if I start eating sweet fruit again. I monitored my own blood sugar for a year to make sure I wasn't diabetic and I wasn't. So you might think about that.
