    I really like the format of your videos. Its good to see someone trying to shed some light on the actual capabilities of these machines. I bought a random amazon welder and its something i understood when i bought the machine, but i feel bad for the people who dont know any better.

    I have only stick welded with mine at the moment, and it did ok for what I was doing. I bought this specifically to get back into MIG welding and was disappointed that the settings seemed to run cold in your experience. Hopefully the cut and etch shows a decent penetration for the samples. Good job on the videos, they are extremely informative and are a good representation of what a machine is able to reasonably produce. Thanks for making the videos.

      Thanks for the kind words. I now have three, multi-process welders with auto material thickness settings. I plan to do side-by-side cut and etch test comparisons on different thickness material. That's actually what I was cutting all that flat bar up for. I wanted to test the plasma cutter anyway, so two birds. I hope to get started this weekend, but there's always seems to be 8-10 things to do and enough time for 0.7 of them, lol.

    I'm glad you talked about the supposed lift TIG not being legit. I have this machine and it's my first time using a TIG, I have a heck of a time starting the arc without sticking it which isn't supposed to be such a problem with a lift TIG. Now I feel better about myself not being able to lift start it.

    Nice. I bought a cut35i and it's great for what it is for the price. Trips a 120v / 20 amp breaker under 10 amps if run longer than 30 seconds.

    I was really bummed at first that I missed out on the kickstarter campaign since the price offerings were so low. I had bought the 205DS a while back and for a little more I could’ve gotten the MP200 with plasma cutter. But after seeing reviews, now I’m glad I didn’t. I went ahead and got the 55DS, and considering I bought both units on the cheap (with discounts applied), I came out ahead. Thanks for the great vids!

    Welp, just got mine today. Thanks for the review and going at length to describe the faults of this thing - thought I scored getting this machine for $800 on BF. I don't plan to touch anything other than .065 steel tubing and maybe aluminum, MAYBE stainless, but the issues you raise are frankly inexcusable.
    A quick look at their return policy suggests one must show cause for return to get them to pay for return shipping... Guess I might have to look into how to rig up a similar testing setup with a multimeter? I wouldn't have the first clue how to do so. Seems they're aware and doing everything they can to avoid acknowledging it. Maybe a call to my CC company is in order instead...

    My cheap plasma had the same setup, leaky and all. But it was only 200 bucks, and got here in 2 days from amazon. Seems to function better aswell. Informative video, I feel bad for people that got this over a Hobart or even a noname welder that does the same except plasma, for less than it would cost to also buy a plasma.

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  2 роки тому +1

      The leaking didn't get bad enough to hurt function, but the constant hissing gets real annoying while working out in the shop, lol. And I didn't like getting my hand or face too close because I was worried the hose was going to blow at some point with how much it was bulging at the clamps. I didn't even stand behind the welder while the compressor initially pressurized the regulator in case the thing decided to let go. Even 90 PSI of compressed air is nothing to sneeze at if something decides to rapidly auto-disassemble.

    I figured it be mostly good for at home use but not industrial use which is understandable since i bought this and will mainly use it for practicing my welding techniques and cutting on the weekends in my garage plus most of the great plasma cutters cost upwards of 2k to 3k in which you need an actual air system to use them with in which costs u more lol

    Don’t try to remove the plug, in the provided air regulator, its not real. At least mine wasn’t. If you look internally it’s obvious whether it can be removed or not. I’ll be getting some 90 degree fittings and better hose as well. Haven’t tried the TIG but YES reconfirmed the “ lift TIG” in a recent Kickstarter response. Who knows?

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  2 роки тому

      Yeah, I didn't actually try to remove the plug or look that close at it. Wouldn't surprise me if it's just molded in and not really a plug.
      If they are calling it lift start, then they must have a different idea of what "lift" start is. Or maybe it's a language barrier thing. They may just call scratch start TIG, "lift" TIG and have no idea they are implying their machine has a feature it doesn't have. At least, that's my charitable assumption.
      With practice, scratch start is definitely usable, but there is a reason companies came up with lift start. "Lift" start is objectively better. There is a distinction. Yeswelder needs to learn the difference (assuming they aren't misrepresenting their machines on purpose) and advertise their welders properly. During my phone conversation with them a long time ago, I explained this issue regarding some of their other welders, among other issues. They claimed to be working to fix all of it. They also claimed to be working with lawyers to get official warranty policies written. Over a year later and none of their welders have an actual warranty policy claimed, including the MP200. Yeswelder doesn't care much about properly advertising features and specs.

    I enjoy your videos that you put out and I can agree with the same thing I have a Chinese welder named the susemse mig 255 and it has an output of 235 amps of MiG and Tig power supposedly a 60% duty cycle and also too I scored a prime weld cut 60 plasma and still under $1,000 and I can say the chineseium welder has a lot of good options and has manual settings on it too along with synergic would love to have your email so I can send you a picture of the welder so if you spot one they're cheap $300 let me know.

    For those who have run into issues with output, do you have the earlier version with the main power line that has the 110 plug and then the 220 adapter? I’ve been wondering if those machine are being starved of power due to the higher gauge wires. I’m thinking the same may be true for the torch lines. I think the machines are great but step down wiring might be holding them back from their max capabilities.

    I bought this for the Kickstarter. Was very disappointed in everything except the mig. It migs great. We make the tig work, but eh, and like you, I had problems with the plasma unless set at 40a. Did you have any luck stick welding?

    • @bigtb1717

      Stick welding is basic, but okay. I couldn't detect any measurable hot start and the output was well below the claimed max.

  • @nickjones886
    @nickjones886 2 роки тому

    Too late for me, already done the kickstarter routine. Can't wait for you to rip apart the CT2050.!! - you getting one?. For me, I've done some testing using a scope with a current probe. The "so called" hot start feature is ridiculous fast, upon initial arc the current does go above the set value, ramps down to below then returns to the set current, all in 0.2 second. If this is what YW call hot start then fantastic, I don't think it meets the description. The lift start on the TIG is laughable, the initial touch current is 50A regardless of setting, that's why it sticks all the time. Once you manage to obtain a arc without lifting away too far then set current is maintained, even at 20A. Everything I read about lift start online is exactly the opposite of the MP200. It's amazing how many folk have got sucked into the spec's, like you said, it's the basic of basic machines, noting special AT ALL. I also noticed that the outputs are LIVE even in the main menu, you don't have to select the process.. However, now I got the thing it's the best welder I've got and I'm making use of it, if it fails in the 1st year I will attempt a warranty if not try and fix it myself but alas it's a switch mode power supply and usually when they fail the domino effect makes for a catastrophic fail with all the stored Joules in those capacitors dumping through many components/pcb tracks until it finds the short. So, it has "hot start" and "lift tig" but YW's version of these features isn't anything any other manufacturer does nor what I read online.. They missed a huge opportunity here, imagine if this could have updated firmware, imagine adding features or tweaking existing features but I've reached out to YW and they say no!.. I will never ever buy anything like this again, wish I could turn back the clock.
    In your next MP200 video can you do some duty cycle tests, see how long it lasts before whining about over heating. Circa 1.3kW is binned inefficiently, can those heat-sink's and fan cope for 6 minutes??

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  2 роки тому

      Interesting that you are seeing a 50 amp lift start current. To me it seemed like it gave full current instantly. Either way, it certainly doesn't behave anything like the lift start I've used on Miller, ESAB, Fronius, Everlast, Klutch, etc.
      I'd really like to check out the CT2050. I just hate the idea of giving them another $1,000 via yet another Kickstarter campaign. But they stopped offering me free machines to test out a while ago, lol.

      @@bigtb1717 there's a surprise!!.. I have another basic MMA welder here I'm fixing for my good friend. Its control power supply has failed, cooked the fan which went short. New fan on order, then I'll have to work out why its not regulating.. (should be 24v, not 30v) Still, it has lift start feature for a basic TIG torch (like the one I got with my MP200) so you know I'm going to test that the same way I tested the MP200..

      Well, I just pre-ordered the CT2050 from the Kickstarter. As I suspected based on a few details I saw, they are, in fact, claiming power factor correction. If so, that would be a big step up from their other welders. Turns out, the $1,000 kickstarter price is half off. It will eventually be $2,000!

      What is the price of the yes welder

  • @98248cre
    @98248cre 2 роки тому

    I had been thinking about getting this unit. But now I’m not sure. I mostly need a mig welder and plasma cutter. What are your suggestions for other welders and cutters that are still affordable?

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  2 роки тому

      What is your budget? The price has gone up since I reviewed it, but the Vulcan MIGMAX 215 from Harbor Freight is pretty good. My cousin has been using the heck out of the one I reviewed for years and he still likes it. I don't know if the Titanium MIG welders from HF are any good, but they are a bit less expensive than the Vulcan machine.
      Companies like Klutch, Everlast and even Hobart make MIG welders and even Multi-process machines for around the same price as the Yeswelder. No plasma cutter included with those though.
      I've only tried one super cheap, stand-alone plasma cutter; the S7 Cut 50 with pilot arc. They do have some reviews on Amazon saying they failed rather quickly, so I can't say what the reliability will be, but the one I tested worked okay and was only $200 or so. Definitely nicer to use than the cutter built into the Yeswelder.
      At this point I really haven't tested out all that many MIG welders, but I'm planning to test some more. The Hitbox Synergic MIG 200 Pro I'm messing with right now seems to have more power than the Yeswelder MP200 and it has the option for fully manual settings, which is nice. Mine did arrive non-functional. Before starting the return process I opened it up and found a disconnected wire harness. I plugged that in and it works fine now. Still, it's definitely a cheap machine, so I can't say what the reliability will be. I plan to test at least one Everlast MIG welder eventually, but I haven't gotten to it yet.
