  • One machine can do it all, MIG, TIG, Plasma, Stick welding. This is a great entry level welder for a car guy like me. Weld sheet metal, roll cage, make brackets, fabricate everything! Yes Welder!

    The pink ceramic nozzles with the small holes are for welding with flux core wire. It insulates the contact tip and prevents the gas holes in the torch from getting clogged with splatter since they aren't being used.

    Tom Hold your tungsten in an electric drill and spin it when sharping. Also I bought a cheap 3" chinesium diamond disc to grind them on. Works well, The plasma cutter will work in anything that will conduct electricity, even carbon fiber.

    • @GarageTimeAutoResto
      @GarageTimeAutoResto  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks John. I should get a little mini grinding wheel for those tungstens. spinning them in a drill is also a good idea. If used the drill method before and it works best for shorter tungstens. The .040" ones get a little bendy.

    Great video Tom. I like watching reviews of products... call me crazy. I'm not sure I would like a machine that adjusts my MIG settings. It seems that I am always adjusting them. If I have a big gap vs. no gap. If I want to do filling vs. flat welds in the case of rosette welds. Or if I'm welding on a vertical surface, at least for my welder I need to adjust the speed higher so the wire does not bounce back and ball up, same for when you are welding upside down. As for the TIG welder, I would think the YES Welder would be very difficult. You have to be in super control to have it start right away, you need to be ready to go, and it looks hard to shut off as you have to pull it away. I have two bottom end welders from Eastwood MIG and TIG. My TIG has a peddle and a switch on the torch for off / on. My welding teacher was saying that you really need to be able to adjust the power... When I was using the TIG I always thought that was a limiting factor for me. I need to go back to the TIG, I bet it would be a lot easier now that I know how to weld with a MIG. But for $500! You can't go wrong. Especially if you are not using it all the time. If I could go back in time I would have invested the money and bought a really nice Red or Blue machine. I wish I was in CA I would have definitely gone to your welding class. Have a great week!

    • @GarageTimeAutoResto
      @GarageTimeAutoResto  2 роки тому

      Hi Rodney, stop by anytime for some TIG practice. My belief is that TIG will make you a better MIG welder. It's all about the puddle control and visibility.
      I do prefer the variable foot pedal. The pedal can be a pain when working in and around a car, but the ability to control the starts and stops is huge.

      @GarageTimeAutoResto  2 роки тому +1

      High Frequency start is easier, but it doesn't mean you can't get used to it. One thing I noticed is that the work needs to be clamped down because when you lift the tungsten it sometime takes the metal with it!

      If your looking for a decent multi-process you'll want to go with fronius/esab or a primeweld MP for $900 if your more budget minded.
      I would avoid yes welders machines and I don't recommend the multimatic 2xx's or lincoln 210mp either as the service from both companies is pretty crap now and the consumables are not interchangeable with other Miller and Lincoln machines respectively. The Lincoln Mp is a particular disappointment because you need to buy the TIG torch, pedal AND plug for another $1000 CAD after you've already given up 3500 for the machine. You have to pop the cover off the machine to install the plug which is just a bad joke and the machine doesn't utilize the gas solenoid in it for TIG only MIG. Meaning when you TIG you have to plug your gas line into the bottle and manually open and close the valve on the torch.
      If your still looking, get a dedicated C.C source for SMAW and TIG and a seperate C.V. source for MIG.
      Primeweld 225x, HTP are good choices. They have all the settings you need AC, downslope, pulse etc.
      For MIG and material up to 5/16 with hard wire, I'd have a scope locked on local Craigslist, and marketplace looking for a millermatic/migmatic 200, or a Mk Cobramig which will generally be in the $600-1000 USD range depending on condition.
      If your good with re-wiring wire feed motors you could go with a Hobart Betamig200 (old hobart before IWT Miller bought them out). They can be found sub-250$ up here. Prob less in the states.
      You will find you generally get more features on a dedicated machine at a much cheaper price.
      MP machines are a bit of a gouge IMO.
