    Nice update!! This camera is undervalued by the market and the market dynamics taking place, aka a severe continuing drop in camera sales. It is a truly professional camera and system that gives outstanding results in the hands of someone who has the time and inclination to learn how to use it. Ergonomics are excellent, image quality is great and competitive, the price is acceptable, and lens support gets better all of the time. Except for autofocus issues, this camera should be at the top of the heap in the FF market.

    I love that you are doing these follow ups. It’s very useful and very thoughtful and balanced as usual. The one thing is miss the most right now would be more affordable and lighter primes like the f/1.8s from Nikon for Z Mount. I fully understand why Panasonic didn’t start with those but it’s a pain. Basically the only native ~85mm prime is a Leica 90mm f/2 for 5000€. This is bananas.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you, I also miss smaller lenses, that is probably the main reason why I didn't invest in L-mount system.

      The Hybrid Shooter have you ever done a comparison with the Nikon Z6? I wish I could rent one but it’s difficult where I live. It’s the only alternative system I would find interesting but I think it still has more/worse compromises despite the “better” (for me) Lens selection. I really dislike the Sony bodies, not the least because I have very big hands.

    • @TheHybridShooter

    I'm a documentary filmmaker for cinema and I love working with your LUMIX S1.
    But I have three big problems with it, which in my should be changed vie Firmware to make working in the field better.
    1.) The rec button cannot trigger my external recorder from ATOMOS, because my S1 doesn't put out timecode over HDMI and no trigger signal. This is problematic because I want to record externally and internally at the same time and I have to press always two times - which is a pain and sometimes to slow to react in shooting in a documentary.
    2.) I would love to shoot in some difficult situations without an external monitor/recorder. The great EVF would allow that. But I shoot most of my films for cinema in cinemascope. But there is really no options for framing markers inside the camera. Only helping lines for photo. That is really a shame. So I cannot frame my picture without monitor. (I think the S1H has the same problem).
    3.) The switch to APS-C mode is not assignable to function buttons. You have to go into the menu and click twice. Simply to long for some situation where you have to change it fast or when the camera is on a gimbal. An my Sony a7M3 you can have this switch simply by pressing a button. This is a joy to use. When you record with external recorder only you can change it during record - like a cut. That would be great to have on the S1 also.

    Very interesting video! I am also looking forward to your review of the 16-35 mm f/4 because I am a L-mount user and I need a wide angle lense. I am going to use it for real estate, for photographing interiors, and there are two possible lenses that I have found, and that I now have to consider - the Sigma 14-24 mm F/2.8 DG DN Art or the Lumix S Pro 16-35mm F/4.0. The Sigma is faster, but also heavier. The Lumix is more versatile, since 35mm can be used everywhere. The price is about the same for both lenses. Now, I would love to hear what you think I should buy!

    Thanks for the video. One issue I have seen with my S1 and 24-105 f/4 lens is that the exposure is often lower than when shooting with my a6400, which tends to get the exposure pretty much right all the time. To me, it seems like when using matrix metering on the S1, it factors in the brightness of the item where the focus point is, while the Sony a6400 seems to factor in more of the overall scene brightness, at least in stills. I tend to use manual focus in video so maybe that has less of an effect on exposure in video?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  4 роки тому

      Manual focusing has no effect on automatic exposure. The easiest way to fix that would be to use exposure compensation.

    Discovered after purchase that The S1 does not
    output Trigger signal via HDMI, and also doesn't output timecode. Therefore the Camera can't trigger recording to an Atomos Ninja Unit which is a Big Flaw in my opinion... Maybe you could suggest this feature added in the Next Update... Cheers!

    For me- personally - the S1 is too big + heavy (and expensive) and the biggest weakness is the (not hybrid-) autofocus in comparison to Sony for example. So in total it`s not my camera. The new Olympus 1 Mark III seems interesting - for me - because of all the features, that i really need. OK - smaller sensor, not cheap...but so many needful things as built in stabilisator/ND Filter, f r e e h a n d pixelshift to 50 MP , automatic starfocussing, stacking, art/scene filters and handling for instance. Therefore it is a matter of taste which company/model you like and need. IMPORTANT: how sympathic is one in use - next imagequality...

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  4 роки тому +2

      I agree, the S1 is a niche camera at the moment. The EM-1 Mark III is IMO by far the least interesting new camera in the last couple of years. There is just too much of outdated tech in in, including poor EVF and screen, no 10-bit video, no 4K 60p, UHS-I slot and so on. There is no built in filter in in, jut composite live view. At least there will be nice discounts soon.

    • @wickie4801
      @wickie4801 4 роки тому

      Yes, you can think so. Good to hear - so it will be cheaper soon. Older technology (sensor) - ok. But two points: Sonys newer 6XXX models do have same older technics (= EVF, screen, average in datatransfer speed...) and second: the Mark III ist an ideal traveller outdoor camera with many features I like. Video I don`t use very often - more stills. So all depends on personal use

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  4 роки тому +2

      @WICKIE Yeah, it is just as bad with Sony, but 2020 release year makes it even more unacceptable on EM-1 III. EM-1 III is also high-end camera for Olympus. A6000 line are basically "beginners cameras" for Sony.
      If you want a good value you can just get the G9 now, that is a better camera overall.

    So as a Lumix G9 user (8-16 / 12-60 / 50-200 / 100-400 / 25 1.7 ) is it worth starting to move the L mount.. S1 + 24-105 / 70-200 / 16-35 F4. Weight is a big concern, along with concern over future of M43. Investing in 42.5 1.2 and 12 1.4 seems a little pointless when Sigma L mount's equivalent focal lengths are available and would offer more separation/bokeh. Any thoughts?

      @@TheHybridShooter Thanks for your thoughts. So logically then Fuji would be a sensible move from M43 with S1 weight being a concern. Wish Panasonic would release a G9 but with the FF sensor. S5 has no top display and EVF is low res. Maybe this year they will release a G10/S6 with EVF from S1, FF sensor and flippy screen. :)

      @@andydean6781 That is a complicated topic, S1 is the closest thing to G9 with FF sensor, there always have to be compromises. Sony and Fuji are safer options than L-mount.
