I'm a new DVC member and I am having a great time using my points. I've stayed at five resorts already.

Very helpful...looking forward to this series as a person who has always been warned not to get involved with timeshares. I've always wondered how DVC might differ from the types of timeshare that cause headaches for people.
used to be completely different. now it's only sorta different... lots of resale rules and variations to keep up with but overall, resale still holds its value pretty well if your circumstances change and you need to sell.
as with any timeshare, plan to spend 3-6 months doing research before buying in.
1) do you intend to visit WDW at least every other year?
2) are you committed to paying extra to stay onsite at WDW?
3) can you make solid plans 6-11 months out? (things may change but at this point, DVC owners refer to a thing called "Fall Frenzy" where many owners like to book from Oct to January - due to reasonable temperatures, decorations and - historically - lower point costs - so if you want to book a stay during the Fall, plan to book 10-11 months out).
