Your planted tanks are absolutely beautiful and you do a great job explaining to beginners how and what to plant. I’m really glad I found your channel because I’m new to the hobby and you give me confidence to try and work with plants!🤗🐟🤗
Thank you so much for this video. I've looked up to Tom Barr for years now, and this is the first time I have seen him or his tanks on film! You sir, have an instant sub from me.
Met Tom Barr a few times years ago when I was part of SFBAAPS and SAPS. Super friendly guy and very knowledgable and matter-of-fact when it came to plants and caring for them.
Beautiful tanks! Those tanks didn’t fall together by themselves. All the tanks have their own uniqueness. Enjoyed watching! Thank you for sharing! Tank you Tom! Ha! Ha! Ha!
I never thought that there was such a thing as too much light in a fish tank but GOD DAMMMM TURN THAT HIGH BEAM OFFF!!!!!! shit is bright as fuck! It hurt my eyes through the camera I can imagine how bright that would be in person already, like I'm not dead yet but I think I can see JESUS. NOOOOOO I DON'T WANT TO GO INTO THE LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!
Holy, it looks like he's got around 8 T5's on that show tank spanning multiple frequencies. That must have killed the eyes. I've got 4 T5's in my 90GAL and they are blinding. I didn't balance enough C02/plants I got green water for my troubles. LOL.
I think the plastic tool was literally just a piece of plastic lol! Someone asked about it after my camera died and he said you could use a credit card. I can't remember about the cotton string part though. I think most people use superglue gel to great effect.
He says "cotton string rots after about a month anyway", so yes use it. It gives the plants time to grip on and after a while the string will simply disappear.
ive noticed most if not all of these nice planted tanks do not have any snails, is that because they will eat all the plants ? i want to do a heavily planted tank but when all my seeds sprout the snails that were supposed to be plant safe ( Malaysian cone, rams horn, mystery and nerite) eat all the baby plants and i havent been able to pin it down to a single culprit
Snails, in general, will only eat dead or dying plants. If your snails are eating your plants, those leaves are probably dead already and you should trim them so the plant won't waste energy trying to save dying leaves. Snails are not a plague (!!) and are a serious member of any good tank clean up crew. It is pretty common for plants to have some die off when they first get into your tank, since most plants are grown emersed at the farms, and need to adjust to life submerged in your tank. Trim dying stems and leaves, and check for common signs of plants distress like low iron, etc.
He's fallen of the radar. I don't think he's even posted on his own board in the last 4 or 5 years. Was he wrapping with thread or mono? Never saw how he ties it down after the loops. Interesting to see his largest aquarium is all fluorescents. I prefer them to LED..they might cost more to buy and run..but they are so much better at growing plants. They look better than most LEDs..you can adjust to your heart's desire.
Wow! I Live right here in the San Francisco Bay area just across the golden gate bridge 10 minutes from San Francisco... Does Tom Live here or was he visiting? Where is the Bay area Aquatic Plant society located? I am thinking it somewhere off or close to 19th avenue. Someone mentioned that to me a year ago... Thanks for the Video... Cool... p.s. I subscribed... :) and Liked!
Tom lives in near Sacramento. I think BAAPS changes their meeting location - this was the only meeting I ever went to lol. You can join their forum for the latest updates!
What about a Fish tank group in San Francisco that is about Breeding fish? I was talking to a guy inside 6th Avenue Aquarium store, about breeding German Blue Rams... he told me to go to this meeting a few blocks off of 19th avenue. Does that sound familiar...? He was a customer not a worker there.,..
A cheap hydroponic light, the ATI light broke 2 days before the event. So the tanks were much more a mess as I tried to get a light asap the last 2 days, rather than tend the tanks.
He lives in the bay area? Too bad he never posts on his plant board anymore. From what I've seen,he hasn't written anything in nearly the last ten years, I just started with intense aquarium plant growing..but with no Co2. Those plants that are not usually found submerged in habitat are the ones who need Co2. I just avoid those.
Inglorious Bettas - I hope so. I run my eheim wet in the day and wet/dry at night. I don't mind running it wet/dry in the day, I'll just up the gas.... I was just wondering if it cause co2 to be unstable.
Enjoying the video but what's up with the horiible background music? It is 100% not adding to the content. We can BARELY hear him anyways. Why the hell would you add rock music to it......??? Just my opinion. I am a lover of rock music but I would love to hear this video without the background music.

Tom Barr is one of the best in the world. Maybe the best. His Dutch style tanks are incredible!
The Man, The Myth, The Legend.
Cool video....I could watch Tom Barr talk planted tanks for hours
Kind of funny! I've heard of Tom Barr from everyone but never saw him before this video...
Thanks for posting! :)

Thanks so much for uploading this. It's like a masterclass from him and so helpful!
His tanks are insane, the layout, growth, colors, plant selection. Wow Some serious Jedi mastery going on.
even Tom Barr using kitchen scissor for trim his plants...

These are so gorgeous!!!
Congrats on 5k!! Awesome vid as well : D
Thanks Lucas!! It was a treat to see his tanks!
Did not expect him to be so young, I pictured a very old man for some reason haha
same here. Ive been following his methods for a few years now and completely thought he would be a older man lol
I use Oil of Olay every day.
You need the advantage of youth to be as ferocious and ever-present as he is.
Me too, like wise old guy image in my head. Especially since it feels like hes been around educating people on plants for so long.
Beautiful planted tanks ❤️
Love the Harlequins! My all time favorite fish!
Oh and love that wood! I actually got my driftwood that's in my 180 discus tank from Tom 👍

Lovely Tom
Stunning!
What's the name of the moss-looking plant at 11:50? It almost sounds like he's saying bradycardia.
Holy, it looks like he's got around 8 T5's on that show tank spanning multiple frequencies. That must have killed the eyes. I've got 4 T5's in my 90GAL and they are blinding. I didn't balance enough C02/plants I got green water for my troubles. LOL.
what rasbora's are those in the Dutch aquarium(the one with red plants) if u know? harlequin, pork chop, or narrow wedge?
Sorry I don't know what they are called :/
Harlequin
thanks! what was the plastic tool he was using? also, was he saying "cotton string rots" and therefore don't use it or do use it?
I think the plastic tool was literally just a piece of plastic lol! Someone asked about it after my camera died and he said you could use a credit card. I can't remember about the cotton string part though. I think most people use superglue gel to great effect.

wow!!,can i know the type of Lighting you use? thanks. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You can ask Tom Barr on the SFBAAPS (San Francisco Bay Area Plant Society) forum himself!
Holy shit! At the beginning of the video there is a freaking Perfect fish tank piece of wood thing. Almost like the Gods put it there! :)

At 10:40 what kind of plant is he talking about? All i heard him say was "HD".
Emily Stubbs i think he said "HC" (dwarf baby tears)
BEAUtiful tank!

Inglorious Bettas do you know other forums?
Something Fishy that's the only one that I know of that is still active. Everything has pretty much moved to FaceBook groups.

beautiful
What is the fertilizer sir
Wish my tanks looked like that... mine just have colorful gravel and fake plants XD
The first step is a few hardy live plants and some more natural gravel. You won't believe how much more alive your tank will look.
Does Tom Barr have a UA-cam channel?
No but he is active on the SFBAAPS (San Francisco Bay Area Plant Society) forum!
how were you able to go there?
What was the lighting he used on his Dutch Tank?
I'm sorry Nicko, I don't remember
Inglorious Bettas what can you remember? Anything, is it a custom made? T5? Led?
Inglorious Bettas and what type of co2 diffuser he uses?
A cheap hydroponic light, the ATI light broke 2 days before the event. So the tanks were much more a mess as I tried to get a light asap the last 2 days, rather than tend the tanks.
Tom wears short shorts.

Wet/dry with CO2?
Not sure, maybe Tom will comment?

Argh! The very shaky camera work makes this impossible to watch
dvoshe wade sorry dude, was one of my first ever videos
