    Why I like this scene:
    1: The Music, it works really well with it!
    2: The Effects, I don’t care if it’s cheap 80’s...This is awesome!
    3: Tom Baker’s performance, he’s just a really amazing Doctor!

      What are you people on about? 'Amazing acting'?! Can you please point it out to me. Tom Baker is utterly mediocre here...it just proves the ridiculous nonsense fans will spew....in much the same way they bemoan anything Colin Baker did with no foundation.
      Ton Baker here is clearly going through the motions, probably dying to get these scenes over with and get down the pub, and you morons think it's the best portrayal ever.... what a joke.

      Quantel was new and fairly expensive st the time. So was scene-sync, a new method to control multiple cameras with blue-screen effects (Meglos). It's amazing what JNT managed to accomplish at the time, especially considering how the show was seen as old and cheap in the previous season. 40 years on, it'll look cheap either which way, so with luck there will be a proper story and acting to keep a story going once the visuals aren't as exciting anymore.

    "You can't fight Time Lords, Romana." "You did. Once". "Mmm. And lost."
    I don't know why, but that particular dialogue exchange gets me right in the feels. It's very understated, but it's kind of sad that the Doctor, usually the man always ready to fight when he has to, calmly and quietly accepts that he would always lose against the Time Lords. I suspect losing his second self because of them still hurts.

      The Time War certainly soured the Doc's impressions on the Time Lords and I'm sure his actions as the War Doc gave him some bravado on resisting them. Though even before then, his experiences with the Trial as Six on top of the affairs of Arc of Infinity and the Death Zone as Five probably soured him further (including how Five Doctors ends with him daring to run away AGAIN.) And if you want to factor in the Wilderness Years media, there's all the shit Eight experienced between Charley and/or whatever the hell happened in the BBC Books.

      Andrewnuva199 The VNA/Bernice Summerfield books are supposed to be an alternate timeline now right? I think Nick Briggs originally kept it that way to make sure they didn't violate the licensing agreement, but kept it that way because seperating all that Lungburrow stuff from the Big Finish and NuWho canon made things a lot simpler for the writers.

    • @stephenmcconnell1000
      @stephenmcconnell1000 Рік тому +2

      According to the DVD, the dust you can see getting dispersed when the birds fly away was actually colouring which was applied to their feathers to try to make them look other-worldly, but because they moved so fast it's impossible to notice and all that's visible onscreen is the make-up being shaken off. So as the birds had to have this applied in advance, it was no doubt planned that they were released at that moment. But it is a nice moment.

    I don't think the TARDIS malfunctioned and fell into E-Space, I think the Time Lords had one final mission for the Doctor and Romana; this pocket universe was opening up, and they needed someone to investigate it to see if it was a potential threat. After all, the King Vampire was within E-Space, and their kind had once been at war with the Time Lords, and if he was still alive and hostile, the Time Lords needed to make sure he was dealt with properly.

    • @mortalhellion
      @mortalhellion 7 років тому +12

      +BionicNinja123. At the time, Tom Baker didn't because he was going through the emotional turmoil of leaving the show. If you watched "The Tom Baker Years" hosted by Baker himself, you'll find he rather liked the season 18 shows he saw in the random clips while saying at one point he'd like to watch them.
      Facts. You should try them sometime.

    • @UnchainedEruption
      @UnchainedEruption 7 років тому +8

      mortalhellion Yeah I remember seeing a clip on UA-cam from a convention where somebody asked him if he didn't like the Season 18 outfit, and he replied saying he liked all the outfits he got to wear. I, personally, really liked this outfit too. I think practically everything he wore looked good on him, but if I had to choose, I'd say the brown coat he wore with Romana in the Graham Williams years is my least favorite. I don't know why, but it just felt a bit empty.

    • @VinchVolt
      @VinchVolt 6 років тому +10

      Tom Baker's emotional turmoil wasn't because of him leaving the show, it was because of a combination of conflicts with John Nathan Turner over how the show ought to be ran (at a time when Baker was at the peak of his prima-donna phase) and his struggles with his own inner demons (specifically undiagnosed bipolar disorder, depression, and his perception of fiction versus reality growing increasingly blurry due to the fact that he had been playing the Doctor both in the studio and for children in public for six years at that point). Nobody knows exactly why Baker left the show, but the most probable reason was that it was because he got fed up with JNT.

    • @UnchainedEruption
      @UnchainedEruption 6 років тому +4

      game4brains I've heard people saying that but I've never heard Tom himself say that he left because of disagreements with JNT. Though that is plausible. He used to bully a lot of the writers and directors because he disagreed with the way they were portraying the character. If there is any merit to this rumor, it's likely because JNT wouldn't take that kind of shit anymore (he was pretty adamant about bringing a sense of seriousness to the show). I remember one of the things was that Tom didn't want to wear makeup when being the Doctor, which was another thing he disagreed with JNT over. But now he says he remembers the guy fondly and doesn't hold a grudge against him.

      What I dislike is how efficient the Tardis looks and acts now. I love the RTD era Tardis interior because of how the controls are made up of random pieces The Doctor's picked up over the years. Now it looks brand new ,and travelling is no longer a rollercoaster ride but an elevator lift. Hopefully they go back to the Tardis being a rickety, malfunctioning piece of junk: it provides the Tardis with much more character that way.

      Our local PBS station showed it on Saturday afternoons, right around the time of the Baker/Davison regen. We'd get the complete serials over the course of several weeks, but they wouldn't always show them in the right order. So, you just had to go along with the fact that the guy who died last week was still alive this week.

    Romana could‘ve gotten a lawyer on Gallifrey to try to fight for the right to explore the Universe with the Doctor as long as she likes after helping him look for the Key To Time. Romana didn‘t think of the possibility that the Doctor could get punished for failing to return her home after getting summoed to return. The Doctor fought them when he was put on trial for interfering in the Universe's affairs after he called them for help to return many soldiers from different wars in Earth's history who were kidnapped by aliens with the help of the War Chief,an evil renegade Time Lord,and lost the battle against his people after they helped him return the soldiers to Earth.
