I love that he doesn’t put in music. I love hearing the talking, sawing all the natural noises. It’s like we are there with them! It is a moment in my day that I can dream along with him. It is authentic and exhilarating. I’m so glad he has help! This mammoth job is really moving forward.
I do miss the music but I like both and I'm sure it helps cut down on editing too. 😊
He does put it on sometimes its naff and the only thing wrong with this brilliant channel
I like the natural & work day sounds too. He puts in music sometimes but it doesn't dominate. When he talks to the camera he's relaxed and explains without being condescending.
I like the music though
I enjoy the sounds of nature and the site too😁
Dan you dont need to apologise for short filming what your achieving is extreme and as a viewer its so thrilling
My favorite show. I watch every episode.
Me too
Snap
Ditto 😊
I’m following it every day in the last 18 months. Addicted? I don’t know. 😂
I do to! I love this!
This channel is a prime example why linear TV is done. Linear TV would have squeezed this whole project into a 2 x 45 min. episodes with boring editing. No way their business people could justify showing hundreds of hours of material spanning multiple years from a single project, but here we are over half a million subscribers tuning in regularly to watch new exciting content.
It's been featured on a UK TV programme, and yes, they managed to make it absolutely boring 😙
It’s the extraordinary combination of seeming fragility and astonishing strength, both in terms of human beings and wood, which keeps one open-mouthed with wonder. You expect the whole house of cards to come tumbling down, and instead, against all odds, it keeps going up!
Well said!
It’s Arthur Koestler’s paradox of true stability resting upon precariousness rather than solidity: the ultimate achievement of “high” art, though I never imagined the interpretation to be quite so literally high as Dan makes it.
@@bahiyyihnakhjavani3246 yes, it is incredibly fragile until it is all tied together, and every stick adds stability to the equation. I was bitten by the bug at 21, earned a degree biology, and went back to building for the shear enjoyment of actually building, (well truthfully the money doesn't suck, lol!) and rebuilding some things that will long outlive me. My laboratory is sawdust, sandpaper, sunlight, and staging and I wouldn't have it any other way!! Unless you've been 40 ft in the air, holding a 2 x 12 ridge poll on your shoulder, standing on a 10" plank, nail gun in one hand, rafter in the other, wind blowing 15-20mph, putting up the first pieces of what will be the roof, you just have no Idea the rush that is, and the total feeling of accomplishment as you are drying in another section of the house. It's special, and not a lot of us get to experience it. I know how lucky I am to still be able to do this almost 40 years later.
Watching the Olympics. Some incredible feats being achieved. The efforts of Dan and co would win a gold medal every time as their achievements are monumental.
Çh
Ce n'est que le début ! Ils sont vaillants !
That’s okay Dan. You gush as much as you want. You earned it.
Dang, that mansard is high! Woof.
Hope everyone is clicking the LIKE button. It’s the least we can do watching such an entertaining and addictive channel 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Always Mike
Never miss!!
I LOVE THESE VIDEOS!!! Dan always does just the right amount of talking and shows us his work. It is such a thrill to watch his dream come to life.
Thanks for reminding us. ❤
I'm a patreon so... I never miss!
I’m in Australia on holiday, but still watching !!!
Amazing job gents.
Yes, I often rush to UA-cam to watch someone build a mansard roof... Dan, what have you done to me?!?
Me too. If nothing pops up I check periodically …… ok, OFTEN!!
😂
🤣😂😅😸
Every day for me. Im addicted 😊
@@jamesnicoll8415 désolée, il n'existe aucun antidote, je le sais parce que j'ai chercher 🤗
You three are the hardest working people on this platform.
I've done a fair bit of restoration work over my nearly 4 decades in the trade, and one thing most people don't understand is that the structure kind of tells you what to do to it, you just have to read the signs carefully and thoughtfully, then listen to what it is telling you. And always give it a night to ponder, answers often pop in your head, around 3-4 am for me usually, lol! It Looks absolutely amazing, I wish I could come and help you, that's a really fun roof to frame, lots of compound cuts on the hips, fun stuff!!
I love how they anticipate each others moves. Especially Nic!
Finally, a bit of blue collar banter I miss from a long ago workplace. Thanks Dan!
Watching you makes the world somehow postive and perfect. Even the sun shines a little bit brighter 😉 🎉
I'd climb up to the roofless part at night with a blanket and lay on it gazing up at the stars. It must be spectacular!
This part of the Chateau Chaumont rebuild is beyond awesome. Well done you guys - none of this looks easy
My tummy has butterflies seeing you guys out on the scaffold like that!
Yeah, not sure safety is being observed here.
I agree, my stomach flipped
Oh, me too😮
@@StillAliveAndKicking_Englishmen are often like that..they just don’t really care too much ,seen it so many times coming from a builders family ..
@@Sally237-s4w It’s odd as Britain has strong health and safety laws.
I do love these daily episode, loads of excitement and great photography.
Now, that’s a feat!! I love the conversations where these gentlemen were like bellying up to the bar, except it was the framing, who knows how high up in the air! Captains Courageous up there on the roof!!
Oh, wow! That is flipping incredible!
I love it. That place is massive....😊
My favourite show, that chateau was hopeless and you have done the impossible, can't wait for the rest of the chateau restoration
As soon as Dan drops an episode, I rush to click on it. I'm sure I'm not the only one
Same for me!
Absolutely. Best Chanel on UA-cam.
Thank goodness it did not rain whilst you were constructing all this! Amazing work guys as always. xxx
If ever there was a time you needed Nick and his safety gear!!!!!!
You can practically see the curvature of the earth from that high up. What amazing views from up there!
I’ve been watching since day one, and you amaze us more every day!! I even have my son in law watching. We live in an old town and recently a brick hotel caught fire and the only thing left is the shell. My son in law said “ too bad the chateau guy is not here to rebuild it”. Anyway I am enjoying your journey!!😊
Ive been following you for a few months now and I'm finally commenting. I'm amazed at your talent and drive. At some point in your life, your children will be telling their friends how their dad accomplished this amazing feat by transforming a shell of a chateau to its former glory. They will be proud and you should be proud too.
Every day it gets more and more exciting. The best château video on the whole of YT by miles. Keep going Dan..
Definitely going to have a topping out party. Good excuse for a knees up .
I like your thinking there Dan, organic. Just because something may be drawn on a plan or done one way in another room doesn't necessarily mean it should be built that way in the real world. My brother, a craftsman carpenter, helped build my first home and in the process designed and built nine curved walls that weren't on the original plans. He added a double height curved ceiling with a skylight in the main bathroom along with countless small features that came about because of his organic thinking as the structure grew. Organic indeed.
And very expensive if you have to actually pay your craftsmen 😂😂😂😂
If anyone is interested, the pitched section against the chimney is referred to as a cricket, built so the water runs off the side instead of against the brick off the steep mansard slope.
Hi Dan
We can’t wait every day to watch you and those wonderful guys
You make our day!
Lots of hugs to all🐶❤️🐶❤️🐶
When this structure is completed it's going to be colossal and brilliantly executed ,well done Mates
I love watching the progress on this beautiful old home!
Mr Dan and Mr Nick, and all who are involved, appreciate all you do.
There's something really wholesome about this channel. I just love it, and I've just found Brian's channel, so a double win. Great progress Nick, the chateau is really coming together. Thanks for keeping us riveted 😊
The attic room above that tall middle section could be something very special
Yes, I’ve been dreaming about there being skylights there with a bed that rises up with a telescope attached. Just dreaming you know, lol
It's amazing what you 3 have achieved. Looking forward to tomorrow. It's 22h00 here in South Africa. I'm now going to bed. Good night
I just like listening to your banter and watching you blokes working hard.
Here in the US, that chevron attachment between a chimney and a slanted roof which allows water to drain away is called a "cricket." I had always assumed that was a British term.
The château is becoming so solid and beautiful again. Great job Dan
Love the way Dan explains the next steps on doing the renovation. Couldn't ask more than be able to enjoy this journey with Dan, Nick, and Brian. Please many like ans subscribers let's support this amazing family ❤ USA
Pressing refresh often so I can watch IMMEDIATELY!
Yep, me too!!
Me, too!
Click the bell icon
Dan, you guys are going like gang busters. So satisfying to watch you every day.
Cheers to all of you.
Just SO impressive. And the pace of the build is so much faster these days. Feels like the exterior is nearly done. Go men!
Well Done
Dan, Nick and Brian
The Chateau is taking its final shape, Wow now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dan, stop telling me that you will "see me tomorrow" then stand me up. !!! 😁😁🤪
Don't look down boys!!. I said out loud, then I say hold them Lord. The transformation is incredible. Absolutely beautiful. " Organic ", love it Dan the Man.
I look for the next post everyday like a rabid ferrett😂 best thing since Porter cake and strong cheddar!!!❤
The roof is becoming magnificent making the whole chateau come to life.
It's become so addictive! I look forward to a new episode every night. The last time I was this excited was when Elon Musk started building the Starship. I followed that progress daily for 4 years. Now I have Escape to rural France. Thanks!
What fantastic progress is being made!
A good night sleep, always make it easier in the morning. The Château thanks every one of you !
Impressive! Still can't picture it but you seem to know what you're doing! Can't believe I opened this 15secs after posting and by the end over 10k had seen the video!
Go back in time and see the old photographs. A picture tells a thousand stories.
Every episode brings me Joy.Thank you so much for saving this amazing home.I long for the day when i see you living there.
You, Brian & Nick are doing a great job to get the Chateau done. Looks like maybe only one more tree to remove at the top! 😂😅😊 can't wait to see the outside all done! Hello from USA, the state of Michigan!
Wood, wood, wood :) plus my favorite Team....plus Beautiful building
Plus noggins 😂
yes.....:)
Amazing to think this chateau was originally constructed with very few power tools. Awesome work - my dudes! 👍😎
Not that amazing... you can build anything if you throw enough manpower and time at it. They built the pyramids with little more than manpower and hand tools.
It is very exciting, very jealous of the wonderful smells you must have with all the gorgeous wood.
Dan ALWAYS works it out. I never doubt you Dan! 🤘
That aerial view was so cool!! 🎉
I enjoy watching your amazing progress with your positive attitude. Each episode is fun to watch. Thanks for sharing your adventure with the world.
I've been waiting a long time to see what that top piece will look like :)
I'm embarrassed, I had no idea what the magnificent "top piece" would look like! It is more than a chateau somehow. I suspect that as the first owner was Russian, this is Russian architecture?
Those dizzying heights.......... at times I dare not look. Good work lads. ✅✅✅✅
Dan wins gold for the noggin Olympics! Fantastic work. This always leaves me with a sense of satisfaction at the end of the day. 👍
Loved seeing you at your “desk” in your chateau on Steph’s YT channel video. Not only will you have the finished product, but it will be memorialized in each great video you share with us. I love this journey so much ❤❤❤❤
Love the 10 minutes videos. Just enough to whet our appetites.
I love to see how once seems lost forever building is coming to life again, thanks to all these hard working men. Nice job.
Dan I have complete faith in your ability to rebuild that chateau. I look forward to tomorrow’s vlog.
James
I'm really getting EXCITED !!! 😊
Wow, just wow, no words for that it’s huge and beautiful 🌸
Pheonix is rising.....
Looking good. It really is going to look majestic when the roof is up
When I look at the old photograph and now, I'm beginning to see it coming together! Great Job and team work.
You men must have nerves of steel doing the things you do.😊
For more than a year I’m following your channel, it helps me trough the news of what is happening in the world these days. Watching something positive and real friendship. Greetings from Bourganeuf.
We are long, long time viewers going many years back with Stephanie and of course with Dan’s first post! We have never left a criticism yet feel we must leave a suggestion at this point. Dan, when you say see you tomorrow and there is no post, sure it’s a little disappointing but when it happens 2 to 3 times a week then it becomes more than disappointing. So we have a suggestion, maybe you shouldn’t make that commitment or promise and the expectation will be lessened. Certainly there are things that get in the way and we understand that, so perhaps a new line at the end is in order, something like Hope to see you, see you when I see you,I’ll do my best to see you tomorrow… We know you will figure it out. Your longtime loyal fans.
I don’t think you should treat his sign-off as a commitment or promise. I go get coffee most days at the same coffee shop and the barista often says ‘see you to tomorrow’, and due to their shifts and my decision whether to have coffee means we don’t actually see each other every day…that doesn’t mean I berate the person next time I see them! It’s not exactly a social contract if the person isn’t a close friend or family member, it’s just a throwaway phrase often used as a close to an interaction. If he says “see you next time”, will that stop people being disappointed? Probably not…instead the comments would be full of “when is next time? Why don’t you tell us when you’re going to release another video!”.
Thanks for explaining that bit of flashing on the chimney. I could not get that to make sense!
Another lovely day! But organic seems chaotic…and Dan….theres still a greenery up there! I assumed you’d move it while putting that frame up! 🆙?? Do whatever needs but stay as true to original as you can….its gorgeous so far. The view is stupendous…. Tin Tin would be proud!! 😊More noggins …long sigh.
I'm astonished at the amount of work you have done. So much is left to do. At first I thought it couldn't be done or was even worth it. You have an unparalleled work ethic Dan and the vision needed to get it done!
Looking good Dan and crew it’s going to look amazing❤❤
❤🎉 loved every minute of this. I am so looking forward to tomorrow how this tower frame is coming up. Thanks Dan, Nick and Brian for giving us nice progress in your journey "organic" renovation. Till tomorrow then 🎉🎉🎉
He's working on the mansard roof, not the tower (turret). That's next.
Wow! must admit I checked the roof height on the old b&w photos of Chaumont, your new roof lines are spot on!
It's so exciting watching each of these videos. I wondered yesterday about how the roof shape was going to work with the flashing marks but as I have no idea how any of this is calculated I am just prepared to sit back as usual and be awestruck and amazed as you take us along for the ride Dan. Once again, thank you for sharing your wonderful journey 😊😎
It is gonna be impressive Dan. It already is. What you’ve done so far is phenomenal and it gets more so every day. ❤👏👏👏👏🏰
The Chateau is slowly coming together and looks fantastic.
Man ! Dan you are something else, this thing about you know what you are doing: You bought this and just spread your wings one a whim and catched the up wind pushing you into unknown territory but you thrive and I love the way you do it and by now I believe you when you say you know what you are doing !
Not saying it's easy BUT imagine the disservice you are doing to roofers by showing that it CAN be done, with a gardener, an Irish brogue, some orange pants, tattoos and puppies !
And a tree surgeon
Carpenters
Yeah, stupid carpenters and engineers who need five and more years of training to be able to do what a cook/gardener can do on the fly over night 😂😂😂😂 OMG the ignorance in this comment section is breathtaking.
They have a lot of experience between them. And they are doing a fine job.
But even so most dedicated tradesman could do any particular task neater and in half the time.
You would need completely dedicated carpenters, roofers, plasterers to achieve that though.
@@PreservationEnthusiast Yes but whereas a professional would see it as a job with a deadline and a paycheck, Dan is on a learning curve, a very steep one, and making entertaining and instructional videos that in turn make him money to he can do the job! It's a win win win for Dan and for the viewers. I do hope that I live long enough to see him lay a table with fine china ! hihihihi
This work is going along like a steam train at the moment, but please lads, take great care working at that height. I'm sure you do, but my heart is in my mouth watching you!
You certainly know how to keep us on the edge of our seats!. I think i'll need an extra blood pressure tablet before tomorrows update.
Well done lads, keep safe.x
Big Fan of the videos. And I‘m hooked. Though I would love a video explaining the static of the old walls, roof, your inlays etc. Or it’s already there and I did not get it. So point me to it. Thanks! Keep up the great work!
After watching all the challenges that were/are being solved on the outside, think how much easier the inside is going to be.
Over 2000 thumbs up already. Dan's the man.
Organic as you say!!! Really? Well I really do admire your positive mood. CU tomorrow ❤❤❤❤❤
Yet, more exciting times. Well done team Dan.
So glad you’re getting the roof done before winter. We just need a little more time to watch you do it.
My fav priceless sunhat ❤
So exciting watching it all go up like a puzzle. So proud of you Dan and how brave to take on such a project. Nic has been a faithful helper. Such a talented humble man. Brian is also is such a hard worker. Poor guy will look like burnt toast by the end of the summer. Carry on.😊
Incredible, Dan! So happy Nick and Brian are there with you! Amazing crew!
