I wrote on another recent reaction page that this is an absolute British anthem of the 1990s. Pretty much anyone who is over 30 and was born in the UK will know this song, and it's one of those - like "Wonderwall" - that is guaranteed to get a bit of a singalong to the chorus in a crowd, especially after a few drinks! And this was a well established song before the Manchester Arena attack, which is why it could resonate so much when that did happen. The driver of the cab is the late actor Patrick Macnee, who was famous for the 60s TV show The Avengers (not about the Marvel team!), and the shot where he stands twirling his rolled umbrella is a nod to the character he played. Surprised you've only just discovered this track, but glad you've both seen and heard it now, and very timely with the Oasis reunion coming up! You're right to pick up on nods to The Beatles, as there are several deliberate references to elements of Beatles history in this (and other Oasis songs) - so much so that a lot of people who dislike Oasis feel they are too derivative in attempting to be inferior copies of The Beatles, but I've always just appreciated the band for what they are. Not all their songs are great but this is one of their legendary tracks that has already cemented their place in British music history. Well worth checking out more of their catalogue, especially from their earliest albums "Definitely Maybe", "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?" (where this song came from) and "Be Here Now".

According to Liam & Noel's older brother Paul, their violent and abusive father used to make the boys stand by the fireplace and shout at them to "take that look from off your face" when taking family photos, which he wanted to show as happy to the outside world. As Noel was apparently the one who got the most abuse, it's not really surprising that he is reluctant to acknowledge such things as being an influence or an inspiration. The expression "you ain't ever gonna burn my heart out" may very well therefore have initially been directed at Noel's father. Of course, I don't know for sure but if one reads Paul Gallagher's biography which was published in about 1996, he does mention this.
I’m from the uk and I was about 12 years old when that song came out and I remember thinking to myself this is a moment. I believe this was the height of the Britpop movement and don’t quote me on this as I’m not a Oasis super fan but the first time Noel Gallagher took the lead vocals on a song. Before I believe he wrote songs played the guitar and had backing vocals to his brother Liam. And it was one of the biggest selling singles of the year and got to number 1 in multiple countries and arguably their biggest most popular song
For some reason I can remember exactly where I was when I first heard it - sitting downstairs in a pub called The Gazebo, on a Fri night in around Feb or Mar of 1996. I was with some school mates and would have been 17. Not sure why I can remember that so clearly.
Slide away Live forever Acquiase Supersonic Morning glory Masterplan These ones really define Oasis But since you've heard some ballads so far, it's time for you to get into the more ricknroll ones I'd say - Supersonic or Acquaise, ti get acquainted with the more harshe sound And if not - Slide away which is a combination of both sounds
11:41 they were born and raised in Manchester. And Noel is not a really emotional guy, but you could see how moved he was during that clip of the city coming together to something he wrote in the face of tragedy. Gives you hope in the face of adversity.
the singer in this was Noel, his brother Liam, the one doing nothing in the video, is their main vocalist...you referenced the John Lennon resemblance, but even the beginning of this song starts off like John Lennon's Imagine
I didn't even realize it was a different singer than in the last songs I listened to! Or maybe it was just Champagne Supernova that was Liam? 🤔 This is news to me that there was a brother lol. Guess I gotta dig a little deeper for the next one! 😜
Noel said he wrote the song alone in a Hotel room whilst completely drunk, likely once he returned from the strip club. Waking up to seeing his guitar on the floor and the lyric and chords written on paper sitting on top of bedside table.
Good reactions and great to see more fans of the band..... if it helps you, as a fan since 94, one of the draws to Oasis were their singles, in particular their bside in the 90's because many of them were and are considered to be superior. Check bsides such as Talk Tonight (acoustic), Fade Away (punkier), Listen Up, Underneath The Sky, Rocking Chair, Acquiesce - this will give you a good understanding of why Oasis were loved. Good luck.
This was one of the few songs sung by Noel. While he was the primary songwriter, his brother Liam sang most of the lead vocals. Unrelated, this is my go to karaoke song...
Somehow I didn't realize the singer was different. 👀 I'm gonna blame being a noob to this band as the reason lol. And that's a good karaoke song to have! 🎵
I remember buying this single when it came out in the 90’s… it’s a real classic pub singalong song! Keep em coming 👍👍❤ Please check out She’s Electric by Oasis: another one I think you’ll find catchy
You should listen to the whole (What's the story) Morning Glory album. Every song on there is a banger. This song is a tribute to John Lennon. The intro is the same chords as Imagine. "Gonna start a revolution from my bed" refers to when John and Yoko did a bed in for peace.
Usually Liam Gallagher sing songs for Oasis like Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall, etc. This is Noel Gallagher singing and he is the main songwriter and guitarist of the band.
It's their best song. It has about a dozen Beatles nicks in it, but it's the most complete, emotionally satisfying song of theirs. I have a weird relationship with Oasis: I love them when Noel sings. Can't stand them when Liam does.
Now, try ""All Around the World", "Whatever" "Don´t Go Away", "Little By Little", "She´s Eletric", "Cast No Shadow", "The Masterplan", "D´You Know What I Mean", "The Importance of Being Idle", and good luck! Oasis are back, the most cool band of the 90th´s! And I hope they come to play in São Paulo, Brazil. Good job by the way!:)

He looks like John Lennon because John Lennon and Beatles are the favorite band of them. Not just sunglasses but their hairstyle also resembles Rubber Soul era Beatles styles.
@@nikkireviews The two brothers, leaders of the band, were famous for their on and off stage fights and breakups. THERE IS NO SALLY. Liam misheard him singing some lyrics and thought he said So Sally can wait, Noel thought it sounded better & put it in. NME interview with Noel, 1996.
This is the best Oasis song in my opinion, but if you try and listen to it live at their really big concerts from the past, the crowd overwhelmingly takes over the song. This is a powerful thing to hear but unfortunately it's rare to find a really good version of "Don't look back in anger" sung by just the band and not the crowd live. However this does add to the songs legendary status among all time great favorite songs in concert because of the interaction of the crowd.

There was a phone call between Liam and Thomas(the father) where Liam threatened to break his father's legs should he see him again.
Wow, that's so sad.. and very well what this could have been about. 😕
Headshrinker and eyeball tickler if you want a couple of bangers
I added Headshrinker to the poll this week! 😊
For some reason I can remember exactly where I was when I first heard it - sitting downstairs in a pub called The Gazebo, on a Fri night in around Feb or Mar of 1996. I was with some school mates and would have been 17. Not sure why I can remember that so clearly.
Gotta check out slide away, aquience, and supersonic
Slide away
Live forever
Acquiase
Supersonic
Morning glory
Masterplan
These ones really define Oasis
But since you've heard some ballads so far, it's time for you to get into the more ricknroll ones
I'd say - Supersonic or Acquaise, ti get acquainted with the more harshe sound
And if not - Slide away which is a combination of both sounds
This was on the radio 100 times a day, how can a human not have heard it at this point. Amazing song still though
the driver of the taxi is a VERY famous british actor cf john steed.
Noel said he wrote the song alone in a Hotel room whilst completely drunk, likely once he returned from the strip club.
Waking up to seeing his guitar on the floor and the lyric and chords written on paper sitting on top of bedside table.
What a way to write such a good song! 😅
Oasis - The Shock of the Lighting
Thank you, I will add it to the list! 😊
@@nikkireviews you’re welcome
"A bell will ring" from their album, "Dont Believe the Truth" is a great one.
My fave Oasis track is called Gas Panic from the Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants album, Deffo worth a listen
Welcome to the Gallagher Brothers world.
This is the oasis song. So good.
I remember buying this single when it came out in the 90’s… it’s a real classic pub singalong song!
Keep em coming 👍👍❤
Please check out She’s Electric by Oasis: another one I think you’ll find catchy
You should listen to the whole (What's the story) Morning Glory album. Every song on there is a banger.
This song is a tribute to John Lennon. The intro is the same chords as Imagine. "Gonna start a revolution from my bed" refers to when John and Yoko did a bed in for peace.
This is my second favourite Oasis tune. You definitely need to listen to Stand By Me.
Usually Liam Gallagher sing songs for Oasis like Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall, etc. This is Noel Gallagher singing and he is the main songwriter and guitarist of the band.
If you liked this live, watch the live version of Champagne Supernova at Earl's court in 1995, you will be absolutely mindblown.
Stop Crying your heart out - you would love that one
such a great song, you should react to Noel singing this song in River Plate
Honestly I'm just learning there is a Noel. 😂 But I will add it to the list to check out! Thank you. 😊
Gunna b amazing .there from ENGLAND!!! UTFB
Watch it live in Argentina, unbelievable
I will have to do that! Lots of people have been suggesting a live version!
React to , Oasis - whatever
This is a great song! You should listen to She’s Electric as well !!
I recommend checking out his solo stuff, "If I had Gun" is a good song to start off with
Please please please react to live forever 🙏
Wow, a lot of people are requesting this one! I will add it to the poll tonight. Thank you! 😊
@@nikkireviews it's a song from their first album and I would say the song that really made people sit up and take notice of them
You should hear his live version on Howard Stern show. Dude was a belter.. he sings it more gently nowadays but it's still great.
british bands loves the 60's
I hope you realise it's Noel singing this one.
Enjoying your reactions 👍
It may be a simple song but its a beautiful song
The glasses remind you of Lennon, the beginning was total Imagine. I love Oasis and am 🏴. But I more fun at Nirvana gigs!
Oh wow. I was unfamiliar with that video.. but even the pulling up to the house was similar. Very interesting!
And I could imagine Nirvana shows being wild!! 😂
He looks like John Lennon because John Lennon and Beatles are the favorite band of them. Not just sunglasses but their hairstyle also resembles Rubber Soul era Beatles styles.
Yep! Their whole look really.
If you like Noel's voice you need to check out his other band, Noel Gallaghers High flying Birds.
Another good Oasis song is Acquiesce.
I honestly didn't even realize that it was Noel. 🙈 But yes, I definitely wanna check more out! Thank you. 😊
If you enjoyed this - I suggest you react to Oasis playing it live in River Plate stadium in 2009. It's on another level.
Lol, Liam just sitting cause he didn't get to sing this one. Probably would have sounded good with him.
Quietly seething.
He has sung it live a number of times. It does sound good. But this one is Noel’s!
I guess I don't know the band well enough to pick up on all this. 😂
@@nikkireviews The two brothers, leaders of the band, were famous for their on and off stage fights and breakups. Liam is the lead singer (didn't sing on this one), Noel is the songwriter and main guitarist and occasional singer. Liam got mad in one of their early tours, left the tour, and Noel sang all of the songs himself. Liam has a great Lennon-esque voice.
1:08 you don’t say 😂 (they absolutely love John Lennon. Liam in particular)
This girl needs to watch some live stuff
Ariane grande and coldplay performed dont look back in anger at a concert for the victims, 2017 , its beautiful
I would say only Coldplay performed it. Ariana just stood there.
I will have to check that one out.
@@overwatchvoice-092 👀
Also talk tonight live with Paul weller
He does say that he's going to start a revolution from his bed, the John Lennon glasses weren't on accident
happy you are finding out how good Oasis are , could you jump forward a few years and listen to "Shock of the lightening " or go back a couple of years and listen to "the masterplan" but take your time
Live forever, Supersonic, Cigarettes and alcohol, Some might say and Rock n Roll star are all worth checking out
Noel the songwriter of the band and the far better singer of the two. Noel also has many great hit songs solo and as colabs.
Stand By Me and also The Masterplan are good Oasis songs
Oasis is the second coming of the Beatles . The other best songs of Oasis are Masterplan , Little by Little , She's Electric , Acquisce, All around the world , Stop crying your heart out
The stone roses ...i appreciate you, but your a bit simple
@@RamblesBramblesthere are a lot of songs that I can recommend but I just chose the more melodic songs .
Thank you for the suggestions! And I agree, second coming of the Beatles for sure!
Lovely reaction. Not sure if anyone mentioned it here but it's Noel like Soul as opposed to No-El.
You don't need to understand any of it just enjoy the lyrical genius that is noel gallagher
The live version at River Plate with the crowd singing is amazing.
I will add it to the list, thank you so much. 😊
