@@cybercat29 There's been talk of reviving a lot of shows that have been long-since cancelled, but I don't think it'll work. The original magic that made Barney Miller so great is gone, and I don't think any modern-day actors can re-capture that magic. Besides, in today's PC culture where everybody is deathly afraid of triggering anyone's sensibilities, it wouldn't be as side-splitting funny as the original series was. Some things are better left unspoiled in the past so we can go back and enjoy what made them so special, rather than attempt to bring them up to modern times, suck all the life out of them and destroy that original magic.
They left out the part where Chano is forced to shoot a criminal, who eventually dies. Barney actually visited him at his apartment. One of the most serious and dramatic moments of the entire series. You could hear a pin drop..
I'm going through seasons 1 and 2 of Barney Miller right now. I watched some of this show in reruns as a kid but now I'm going through the whole series. Chano was a great character. So was Fish. Both casting choices were brilliant as fas as I'm concerned. It's a shame Vigoda and Sierra left the show. The later cast was great too, Dietrich in particular but these early seasons are a treasure
I thought he did a great job on this series and never understood why he eventually left after such a short time. I'm saddened that he's no longer with us, but I hope he's in a better place. Rest in peace Gregory!
He was offered a starring role in a new series that never really got off the ground. If you notice, in the opening credits of Barney Miller, he is given a "leading role" by having both his real name and his character name on the screen..
We watched this every night on me t v.... Great actors great stories... I was fortunate to visit ron's glass grave site.. On his birthday god bless your soul sir...🇺🇸🇲🇽🇨🇵🇬🇧
WENTWORTH, Linda Lavin was great also. A shame that Chano, Fish, and Wentworth left the show and RIP Nick. Harris and Wojo's characters evolved over time and Levitt and Arthur D started out as different characters. Lugar was great as was that sick bastard Scanlon and Marty and Mr Driscoll were funny!
Chano should never had left. I'm glad I was able to get his autograph before he passsed. RIP Gregory Sierra
I second that and agree with you 💯 I often wonder if Barney Miller could be brought back with a even more diverse cast 🤔
You could have had the perfect squad room---Miller, Chano, Harris, Wojo and Dietrich.
Agree, he was great!

Could you tell us the story of how you got his autograph?

Agreed.
Actually it was two criminals he killed.
Amazing scene.

Saw it when it first aired.
Remember it to this day.
Love it when he sees the money and sings 'Happy Birthday' to himself.

What I read via Max Gail (Wojo) is that Greg and Hal didn't get along and that's why Greg left

Best bit wasn't in here, the one where he arrests another Puerto Rican and talks in a British accent.

Indeed. I wished that they had kept those characters.
I’ve never understood why the actor left the show after 2 years. Chano was great. Were there problems behind the scenes?
I seen it on a video he didn't get along with Hal and I also wished he stayed longer on the show!
Same here 😢
I really liked Chano.
Sorry he left.

Left out the BB est one where he impersonates an Englishman
😂
