We took a back to back cruise on the discovery ship for Easter (14 days) this year it was fabulous we loved it ! it was one week up the coast of California and then it was one week in Mexico !we had a fabulous time. We absolutely love the discovery ship after 35+ cruises it was definitely in our top five cruises of all times… the ship was beautiful the medallion was extra special for us since we have never had Wi-Fi on any ships before. The itinerary was fabulous and the ship itself with everything it had to offer was excellent.. we definitely give it a five star. We are re-booking it again next year spring…hopefully with a different itinerary. It would definitely be spectacular if they would have a couple of the voyages going round-trip California to Alaska. that would be fabulous for all of California natives.
Thanks for the short thorough review. I just need the overview and don’t have an hour to give! I appreciate knowing Princess sponsored to inform us as the audience. Safe and happy sailings!
I was on the Discovery this last November, and thought the whole experience was terrific. Duvall has to be the BEST cruise director I’ve ever encountered on any cruise I’ve taken. Food is one of the most important things in any cruise I take. If the food scene isn’t excellent, the rest of my cruise isn’t so great. All food I had on the Discovery was excellent. Bistro Sur la Mer seemed like a bit of a snoozer to me, so not all that memorable. But Crown Grill I thought was fabulous. I actually thought it was just a little better than Cagney’s on Norwegian. The nights we went to the MDR, all the food was spot-on - WAY better than Royal Caribbean. I just got off an 8-day itinerary with Royal Caribbean, and was not at all happy with the included dining. Princess, however, is still great. Gigi’s out-does Alfredo’s by a long shot. I absolutely loved Gigi’s. Had World Fresh Marketplace for every meal (even pre-dinner dinners!) and thought it was extremely good.
a very good video. Most videos show the pools and common areas. Yours show the cabins and what is in there, which is what we need to know. Pools etc, we know from Princess corp video. Hope there are more videos showing cabins interior, corridors outside cabins and medical facility.
Excellent, unbiased review. Thank you kindly. Sadly on Princess you need to upgrade to a deluxe balcony stateroom in order to get that (standard on Royal Caribbean) coffee table and loveseat. Which is honestly the only difference between the regular balcony cabin and a deluxe balcony cabin. We are at the same tier on both RCCL and Princess.. We are doing a final Cruise with both Cruise-lines to determine which of these companies we’re going to advance with. We are just a few cruises away from the highest tier w/both.
Great video. I'll be cruising in April next year and am looking forward to eating at Crown Grill. Looks amazing. As do the rest of the ship. Can't wait.
I've been on 10 cruises with Princess and have totally enjoyed them. I will be sailing on the Discovery Princess April 2023. The balcony cabin does look much smaller than the ones I've been in on Ruby Princess. The layout however is the same. Happy sailing!
We have sailed on both Majestic and Enchanted, I agree with your summation of the French restaurant’s starter selection. However, the filet was phenomenal!!! Better than crown grill. Also the biggest draw back on this new class of ship is, on the cabin decks the carpet on the port and starboard sides used to be red and blue. So when you came out of the elevator you looked at the carpet and you knew. Now it’s all the same color.. I like the red and blue. Overall, they are truly beautiful ships. And the crew’s on both we’re always above and beyond..
Great review! Thank you! We are on the Discovery August 14th to Alaska.. We've been on several different princess ships, most of them older, but we loved the Majestic! I'm hoping we enjoy this ship... I'm a little apprehensive.I know already I'm going to miss an indoor pool, Wheelhouse bar and Skywalker's. They were great places to find a more quiet spot to just relax and read a good book!
@Dustin T Seloover it was a nice cruise, although we didn't make it into Glacier Bay-too foggy, so big disappointment there. We liked the ship just fine-like the new buffett configurations on the bigger ships, but hate the tiny balconies! Annoying that you pay so much extra for balconies and they are now so small you can barely be comfortable in a chair. Food was ok, not spectacular. Quality of cocktails varied from bar to bar. All in all a nice ship. Majestic is our favorite.
@@karenlira2143 I’ve been on the Majestic. It is a very nice ship as well. Although I have to say, the food scene on that cruise was utterly abominable. Granted, they were just emerging from being shut down for over a year, so I gave them lots of grace and made the best of it! Yes, I agree the balconies are quite small on the Discovery. It was a little bit shocking.
On Princess website it says there is a Crab Shack on Discovery Princess but I don't see it on deck plan or listed. Is it there?? Is there crab boil on the ship?
How is the spa on a Princess cruise? I tried it out on Royal and it was terrible. Nothing like overpaying for a service just to hear the person try and upsell you the whole time. it is like paying for a timeshare sales pitch.
It seems to me that are pushing all the viewers to purchase the Specialty restaurants, I have seen other reviews where they explain that the food in regular dining rooms its very good.
We have never been on a cruise. We travel a lot and even though looking at cruise reviews on UA-cam makes it enticing, I fail to see how on such a large ship it is possible to ' get away from it all'. I can imagine there must be people everywhere, long lines at the buffet, crowded pools etc. Can anyone who reads this please tell me I am wrong.
We have sailed on the world’s largest ships and have found spaces to relax like adult only solariums, thermal suite, or waterfront promenades. Sure, if you walk into the buffet on a sea day at noon it will be busy, but that’s true on any vessel. We might be biased, but we think cruising is the best way to sea the world. You should try it.
First cruise: We sailed on Discovery in late-April, 2022. Main dining room quality was hit or miss. Crown Grill was AMAZING (both times). Buffet was very disappointing, but Gigi’s pizza was awesome. Drinks and entertainment were very good. Unfortunately, we had very rough weather 3 of 5 days. Staff was very friendly, especially the bartenders. Production shows were great. Darren put on incredible show. I look forward to next cruise. Any suggestions on which line to try? We’re both in our late 50’s and want to leave from LA area.
My sister and I have been on 2 NCL cruises (Alaska & Caribbean) and have been WOWED by both of them. We got a free Princess Cruise from a local casino offer so decking between this ship and the Royal Princess for our next cruise. Highly rec Norwegian out of L.A. Happy sailing!
My wife and I are currently on the Discovery for the California coast trip (10/01) The ship is great, rooms are great, staff is friendly and great. However, the dining room experience was not good (Ketchikan). Service slow, no silverware to start, wine service slow and was not delivered with meal. took forever for get our food ordered, then forever between courses. Salmon was dry, pasta clam sauce cold. Very disappointed. The next night we tried the French restaurant. Food was good, slow, doodling service again. We are just disappointed and is something we have not experienced on any 😅Princess ships. The Princess theater show and entertainers were the best we have seen on a cruise! We are accompanied by family in a separate room and we are embarrassed as we talked up the great dining experience and quality of Princess for their first cruise… I don’t know if we will go back. 😢
Unfortunately, they made the bigger portion of the casino smoking so if you’re a non-smoker, be prepared to feel nauseous or don’t plan on being in there long. Also, plan on washing all of your clothes. It’s awful.
I’m staying at the Doubletree. Could you comment on your stay there? Is there a shuttle to the cruise port? How is the food? Is it safe in the area? I would appreciate your response
The stay there was fine for a few days. Rooms were what you would expect from a Doubletree. It is a short walk around the harbor there which is beautiful. There is a shuttle, and I believe it is a nominal fee. We grabbed snacks and drinks at the hotel and the food was just okay. The second night we ordered from Door Dash and got a really good tex-mex from a local place.
@@Eatsleepcruise1 once we stayed at the Vagabond which was just down the road. It was horrible, my poor husband has never been able to live it down lol. They had the smoke detectors covered in plastic bags. I appreciate your feed back. We are just staying one night. I really liked your video. Keep it up
Hi .we recently booked a cruise on the diamond princess for three weeks in November going to Mexico and Central America … we have never been on that particular ship with Princess before ..and would like to know if you could tell me any updates about the ship’ interior since the Covid restart on this particular ship ? Besides having the medallion can you tell me any other upgrades they have done that they did not have in the past? It will be a three week cruise for us so we are very excited to find out what amenities will be offered on that particular ship thank you again in advance
Hi, nice review. We haven't sail on Princess before because we heard that Princess Cruises tend to be cater toward older people in their 70's and up. Some of my friends who have sail on Princess said it's the most boring cruise they had been on. We are loyalists to Royal Caribbean Cruise, but with that said we wanted to try Princess Cruise to see if what our friends said are true. I do have 2 questions for you. 1). Did Princess remove the water fountain in the pool deck on this ship? I saw that Royal and Majestic Princess still have them. I was considering Royal Princess once the ship is in San Francisco in Oct 2022 or fly down to LA for Discovery Princess. 2). During the day, are their any dance classes like Zumba or other dance classes? I searched but don't see a video of your review on Royal Princess. I assume you didn't review that ship? I think I came across on your review on the Majestic Princess. Thank you
We started cruising on Princess ships in our 30’s. We enjoy Princess as much as RCCL. We have noted that the food on Princess is superior to the food on RCCL - yet RCCL has larger cabins.
@EatSleepCruise - Your experience & perception is almost an exact opposite of mine during our April 15 Mexican Riviera. This was my worst Princess cruise in sailing with them for 30 years, in terms of ship, food, service. The whole experience reminded me of staying at a theme park/ corporate chain hotel, not a relaxing ocean voyage. I boarded with a positive attitude & open mind well aware Discovery Princess is a mega ship. Prior to this cruise my last six cruises have been aboard Viking Ocean. Now that's a line that meets my expectations & desires in what I'm looking for when cruises. That's just my perspective based on MHO.
@@jmanjr That was a bit harsh. I’ve cruised on Viking and couldn’t understand the hype. Viking was adequate = nothing more, nothing less. I actually prefer Princess. Different strokes for different folks, that’s what makes America great.
If you can afford Viking, by all means! Of course the experience is totally different as the cost of one Viking cruise is 4 or 5 times the cost of a Princess cruise... And not many can afford these prices.
@PrincessCruises booked cruise based exclusively on the 4 two tank #scuba dives offered. Systematically have canceled all. #Roatan #Cozumel #Belize #CostaMaya . Not impressed! Gives your #AnimalPlanet partnership a bad name. Offered $75 credit… absolutely insulting. Sad!
