We laugh at YT lessons, but in the 1960's at a major university I took a full-semester course in music theory (classes, homework, exams), and they didn't cover half of what Ms. Terzian covers in a few minutes. And frankly, she covers it better.

As I have been teaching myself to play piano, I had a lightbulb moment about musical structures, and that is the fact that "intervals" are the KEY to music. In this video, you mapped out the interval structures of these chords, and showed how they can be applied to any number of different keys. It is these 'distance relationships" so to speak that are the underlying structures that cause our brain to identify these sounds and their associated feelings. I like to re-visit your videos because I find that as I progress along this path, I notice things I hadn't noticed before. Nicely done!

In my opinion EVERYONE should learn music theory on a keyboard, regardless of what their chosen main instrument is. It's just so much easier and less confusing, and teaches and prepares you better for orchestrating and arranging later.

This has been the best and simplest explanation I have ever heard. Always wondered of the difference between mayor 7 and 7th. Thanks you!

Thanks, Gracie. The 7th chords have always been a mystery to me playing the guitar. You are the first to explain how to formulate them in an easy way. Congratulations! I just take it the formulas are a given, so there is no need going over them!? Now if I'm playing a song with those weird 7th chords, I am sure I will know how to play them (provided I remember the formulas!).

    I sincerely appreciate your Formulas.
In learning my guitar fretboard and scales, I can now play select parts of the scales that sound good together, selected knowingly rather than by chance, making up simple melodies, or "riffs". Many thanks!!
