The hallmark of a GREAT teacher is someone who can take complex concepts and make them understandable for ANY audience. Gracie, you are a PHENOMENAL teacher and musician. You are performing an incredibly valuable service with these videos, and you deserve all the success possible in your life.
Amen
Add another Amen!!!!
I agree
Brilliant teacher
Yes, AMEN
There is NO BETTER TEACHER OF MUSIC and MORE PROFESSIONAL!!!🎷🎷🎷🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎻🎻🎻🎻🎶🎶🎤
We laugh at YT lessons, but in the 1960's at a major university I took a full-semester course in music theory (classes, homework, exams), and they didn't cover half of what Ms. Terzian covers in a few minutes. And frankly, she covers it better.
Yep same here learnt this over a number of years 40 years ago one of the best middle class secrets ever...
I am a semi-literate musician and mostly self-taught. By self-taught I mean I learned through books and tutorials such as this. Yours is excellent!
Thank you!!
@Gracie Terzian Thank you for the constancy of your presentation. I am hooked...a fan.
As a working mum who struggles to find time for herself to devote to playing music. I thank you for your teachings and all while juggling a little one of your own. Apart from being a superb teacher with rare clarity. You are an inspiration. Thank you again.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your lovely and generous comment ❤️. Good luck on your continued musical journey & finding time to balance everything too!
Great lesson, but now I'm walking around my house with "This. Is. A. Dom - i - nant. seven." stuck in my head. LOL, but really, that's a great way to remember the sound of those chords.
Gracie is the best, most effective music teacher I have seen. And I ain't lyin'!
Awww thank you!
@@GracieTerzian thank YOU for your amazing lessons! 👍👍😃
You are correct !!
I wonder if she knows calculus though ...
@@terrybeaud9348 Basic algebra should suffice for conversion to the diatonic scale.
I’ve been spending many many hours trying to figure this out on my own and all I was getting was more confused. Watching the first fifteen minutes of your video and suddenly the light comes on ! Instant subscriber !
So far I have followed all your lessons and it's like your the only teacher who gets through my thick/old head. I have understood every lesson. Thanx Gracie
Aw what a compliment! Thank you very much Michael
@Qflick Good news / bad. Bad=My memory. Then I get to watch Gracie's vids repeatedly. I'll get somehow.
you said what i want to say.
@@genesislanfei5613 Best news, We get 2 review @ any time.
Same here.
This is by far my favorite beginner music theory channel. When I first was starting out w/ music theory, out of all the channels that I've watched, this was by far the best.
I love your style of teaching. You provide multiple examples, you do things at a pace that allows learning. Other people speak too fast...or make point too superficially. Great style, love it. Will watch your other videos for sure.
Thank you so much!! Your comment really means a lot.
Wow, What a teacher!! Fast, knowledgeable, understandable, plus. You make it logical.
As I have been teaching myself to play piano, I had a lightbulb moment about musical structures, and that is the fact that "intervals" are the KEY to music. In this video, you mapped out the interval structures of these chords, and showed how they can be applied to any number of different keys. It is these 'distance relationships" so to speak that are the underlying structures that cause our brain to identify these sounds and their associated feelings. I like to re-visit your videos because I find that as I progress along this path, I notice things I hadn't noticed before. Nicely done!
I like how you ask us the question before giving the answer. Made me think and interact with the lesson and by half way through the video I was writing the answers ahead of your next question. Thanks.
Simply the best theory teacher I’ve ever seen!! Ooops! Hope my prof from the university doesn’t see this post!!!
Hahaha
In these basic lessons, I smugly think, "I know all this." And yet there's always some little thing I DIDN'T know. Thanks.
The only music teacher you'll ever need. Great voice and pretty as!
Gracie you’re lesson is so amazing that I have fallen in love with music theory.
Finally I understand there are double flats in my sheet music when playing with my band. thank you !
When the student is ready the teacher appears. I appreciate your free lessons. "It's not what you do, it's the way that you do it" Thank!!!
As a former orchestral trumpet player (i.e., years of private lessons, high school band!), later dance-band bassist and saxophonist, and current geriatric armchair guitarist, I wonder why it took me 50 years to learn this. Thanks.
You broke the glass with the circle of 5ths/4ths , you are awesome.
Thank you :)
@@GracieTerzian Thank YOU!
Surf endlessly in your guitar journey, then be presented with knowledge so easily digested. Wow! Thank you.
yay that makes me so happy to hear!
In my opinion EVERYONE should learn music theory on a keyboard, regardless of what their chosen main instrument is. It's just so much easier and less confusing, and teaches and prepares you better for orchestrating and arranging later.
@@EgoShredder it is that transition, for me personally, when I started to see my guitar as a way to, loved the word you mentioned, orchestrate what I could hear in my head. Easy chord theory was that lightbulb moment for me :-)
@@philippaz7850 I learnt the guitar really quickly, but only because of my 5 years on the keyboard first. However I was self taught on the keyboard, and so it took me longer on that, although the good part is it makes you more unique and less "schooled" sounding.
You don't save on time and details so your students will see it clearly; that makes u an excellent teacher. Thank you.
This is the first time I fully understand a major 7 and minor 7 concepts.
For all the years I've been playing instruments, these are the best and easy so far lesson to understand. 👍🏽 Thanks Gracie may God reward you as your wishes arep
Love your style of teaching so clear thanks Gracie great voice also very understandable
Very beautiful clear teaching Patrick Ooty

Now that I have revisited this I realize you have refreshed my memory about dim/half dim - thanks. (removing my previous comment from last year)
Great! :)
Merci. Came back to watch it a second time. And I saw that you told about the trick to speed up the videos. I've been telling everyone that I was time travelling to my music classes since they asked me how I could listen to 40 hours of Gracie's videos each day.
Ms “G”, just when the internet seems like a connection to everything bizarre, controversial, meaningless, immoral, nonsensical, political, (I could go on trust me), I stumble into this ray of hope in the form of the most intelligent, articulate, professionally presented, and for an old geezer musician like me… INCREDIBLY HELPFUL lesson! (and unlike other subject matter… FREE).
THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART!!!
A great teacher!!! I hope all teachers will watch her videos regardless of their discipline.
Unbelievable teaching method....God gifted talent. It's really awesome.
Thank you very much!!!
I have studied music at major music school. Your teaching is much better. Gracie, you are the best.
Woohoo thank you !! :)
Two years ago. We need the formulas for 9ths, 11ths, and 13th.
Even though I do know them, your style of teaching helps reinforcing it. So please consider this. You could make three different videos, one for 9ths, one for 11ths, and one for 13ths. That would be great! Thanks. (Sus and Aug are two more).
This Lesson is awsome, it has pefect explanations and the correct naming conventions. Thanks Gracie
you're a great teacher...very knowledgeable, a great communicator and patient lol
I've been singing out the chords now, and I think my cat likes it when I do.
Very helpful! The video for "secret to key signatures" was not only helpful to me, but my piano coach is now teaching the method!!!!!
Oh that’s awesome! I’m very glad to hear it.
No one does it better❤❤❤
My favorite on guitar is a major 7. It sounds so optimistic.
Have been to a music teacher for years and hardly learned any theory. Your videos have helped fill in the spaces and I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, albeit still a long ways off. Thanks
Thanks for explaining this in an easy to follow and understanding way! Makes sense now 🙏🏻
Glad it was helpful!
This is the absolute best explanation I have seen and now understand completely. I have watch many videos to try to understand and now I do! thank you so much!
Thanks so much!! So glad it helped you understand!!
THANK YOU GRACIE🙏🙏🙏. YOU ARE SUCH AN EXCELLENT TEACHER!!!! Sooooo APPRECIATE IT!!!!😍. PERFECTLY EXPLAINED✅
What a way to start the weekend better than learning with you Gracie :), thank you, and Happy Friday!
You're very good with your instruction. I'm a teacher/guitar player, too, & you're a breath of fresh air in the over crowded guitar "teacher" video genre. You're excellent with your methods & style. Thanks for your work & your giving heart to share & help others. Bless you!!
Thanks so much!! That means a lot, especially coming from another teacher!! I really appreciate this nice comment.
First time I listen to your lessons…Superb , easy to understand and made it so simple thank you
Ah and You are beautiful too
Extremely helpful for an old 🐕. Thank you!
This is the best 7th chord video I have ever seen, Excellent Job, Gracie
Best explanation I've ever seen/heard on 7th chords. Love the maj7 chord.
Thanks!! Me too!
I recognize that you are a great teacher. But I maybe I am not a great student. In any case I thought that playing Happy Birthday or Jingle Bells would be less complicated. But i have to admit that your way of explaining the whole musical theory is the best way. I’m sure I would gladly pay for a manual in pdf that explains these concepts to complement what you have done here in your UA-cam channel. Thanks a lot. Impressive!
I love how you sing and play the chords and notes. You are a natural when it comes to teaching, you’re using a good inquisitive method. I also like that you don’t come off fake nor a big ego, you’re creating a safe space for learning. I am sharing your videos with some of my musical friends. Hopefully I can return the favor by getting you more subscribers and helping more people relatively new to music. Thank you Gracie, well done.
side note: nothing is ever boring on this channel
OMG - THIS LESSON WAS EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU GRACIE!!!😍🙏🙏🙏. ✅Feel like i sat thorough an EXCELLENT MUSIC THEORY (FULLY LOADED) ON 7th CHORD LESSON THEORY from some IVY LEAGUE or JULLIARD SCHOOL OF MUSIC!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉. EXPLAINED TO PERFECTION!!!
Best music teacher I have seen on the net. Thorough explanations spoken clearly and not too fast.
Not only do you know the music theory, but you are also a good teacher. The "pauses" work....
Gracie, you are a remarkably talented teacher, gifted musician, and vocalist. Unique among your peers.
Aw thank you so much David! You are the best!
7 chords? I mean 7 times I love the way this lady teaches piano ! She clears up the air make things simple! White board and her piano demo really helps without rushing it all!
Gracie you are such a wonderful music teacher everyone can understand
In my K-12 Education I had 2 or 3 teachers who were like Gracie with the ability to simplify the complicated and make it easy to understand. She is the kind of teacher that changes people's lives. Thanks for posting all these lessons, Gracie. I have learned a LOT from you.
Aw that is such a nice thing to say, Jeff. Thank you very, very much!
I'm guessing that We all learn a bit differently. We can remember those instructors that hit that grandslam.
Yes, my first time every learning all 7 chords. Thanks again!
Today I under stood the Chords and You are my REAL TEACHER of Key board. I am very much thankful to you Gracie.
Yay!! Love to hear this :)
I started grabbing my guitar (haven't played in a long time) and forming the chords with you, so this wouldn't just fade into "theory." You're a great teacher! Thank you!
I like the ear training that goes along with this lesson. So a Major 7 chord sounds like the the first bar of Chicago / Color MY World . In fact the whole song is filled with 7 chords of various qualities. Another Great Job!
Nice...
It's important to study music theory and the seven chords.
Gracie is an excellent teacher.
I’ve been trying to learn more music theory for months… and yours is the FIRST lesson I could understand. Instantly subscribed.
I’m in your debt, young lady. Thank you! 👏🏼
Awesome, thank you!!! Keep up the great work on your journey learning music theory! It should be fun! :)
Love Her style, It could be condensed somewhat w/out losing anyone(rewind is at Our beck & call).
I love the way you explain the music. Thank you.
She is NOT Gracie, this teacher is Amazing 😍🦊🤩🙂 Grace! She breaks down lessons in SIMPLE terms! Love this woman! Her dark pen helps to see what she is referring to!
Gracie this series is so good. I am watching a second time through most of them. You make it so easy to learn. The harder thing is to practice and retain the information - but watching the videos again is just as much fun as the first time - although easier because I know the theory now. I would highly recommend the PDFs, but also take your own notes as you watch (which I didn't do first time). Thanks you again.
This is my favorite of your videos that I've seen so far, closely followed by the video on why there are three versions of minor scales. Thank you.
Taken me 7 years to get here and understand this part of music theory. Thanks.
You make a complex topic easy to understand. Thank you!
You ARE exactly what I needed at this stage of my musical development. It’s amazing when you think about it: being taught exactly what you need to know and how and, on the other hand, actually know that what you’re getting is exactly what you need to receive. With surgical precision. Thank you.
I knew Gracie would straighten out my seventh chords enigma! Thanks Gracie!!
You’re welcome!!
thank you so much for your teaching , everything is so clear and easy to understand. I've been struggling for a year to understand chords, and especially the 7th chords in Blues
watching dozens of videos on the subject and most of them let me in a state of emptyness because of the lack of explanation until I found you ! Your way of teaching, taking the viewer by the hand and going step by step is what someone like me who never studied solfege or music before need to understand music in a simple way.
It's one thing to play these 7th chords, but completely understanding the theory really completes it. Thanks Gracie!
Add: awesome, wonderful gorgeous educational Gracie 😚
I love the way 😍😎😍😎 ❤️ this woman teaches! She is soundly clear with examples ! Keep your marker dark my dear ! And play a demo for us too , plse do!
Grace, God bless you. Your teaching skill is unique.
Thank you! 😃
Gracie you're astounding!! Thank you!! For the lesson
Wow, you made me understand 7th chords , I'm blown away, I can be taught!😳
Gracie, absolutely the best explanation of 7th chords! I love your work and videos!
Thanks so much!
awesome teaching methodologies, very easy to understand first time too! I've great admiration for your skill in making these problematic theory concepts so seemingly obvious! Subscribed and will share with others struggling with music theory! Thank you so much Gracie!
I simply enjoy when you sign along the chords, 😲😵… so smooth!
Great video! Great content.
Thanks a lot!
Hi gorgeous 😜 love all yr theory lessons (iv done grade 8 and this is great as a refresher course), wud also love to see hw you wud teach jazz as I find this a bit challenging it doesn't come easy to me as it's easier just to read a music sheet, you are a wonderful teacher n u probably play so beautifully, thank you fr all yr theory lessons you make it sound so easy🤗
This has been the best and simplest explanation I have ever heard. Always wondered of the difference between mayor 7 and 7th. Thanks you!
I saw this video a year I saved. I said to myself I’ll need later on my musical journey boom today I wanted to have a better understanding of 7th chords etc…. I watched this video thanks ever so much Garcie God bless
Thanks, Gracie. The 7th chords have always been a mystery to me playing the guitar. You are the first to explain how to formulate them in an easy way. Congratulations! I just take it the formulas are a given, so there is no need going over them!? Now if I'm playing a song with those weird 7th chords, I am sure I will know how to play them (provided I remember the formulas!).
Gracie you are a great 😊 teacher
Laszlo from Hungary,👍
Thank you Laszlo!
Thank you so much Gracie! your videos are the best, so helpful and concise! I also love your worksheets in paetron, SUPER HELPFUL! Amazing teacher and beautiful soul!!
I would love to see a video on modes and how to remember these scales as a vocalist ❤
Gracie's lessons are proper professional lessons - much appreciated!
great basic intro very helpful
Great job Gracie. You always able to turn something difficult into easy to understand. A big thank you.
This is the best explanation I have listened to. Thanks a lot. Really appreciate you Gracie!
I sincerely appreciate your Formulas.
In learning my guitar fretboard and scales, I can now play select parts of the scales that sound good together, selected knowingly rather than by chance, making up simple melodies, or "riffs". Many thanks!!
Thank you for clearing up this topic for me, it'll take a bit to sink in, but so helpful
So happy to hear that!!
Love your teaching. Learning so much. Thank you!
Been scratching my head over how chords work for ages, Gracie made it real easy to grasp. Cheers Gracie and many thanks.
Aw thank you Lez! :) sooo happy to hear this!
Thank you so much for uncomplicating my music - Great tutorial!
Dear Gracie: Thank you for this information. Take care!
Thanks, Gracie, for the most comprehensive description of 7th and diminished chords I have ever heard! You are the best!
