I'm a lifelong Mets fan & I love Bobby Cox. You're absolutely right in what you say, I don't I've ever seen a manager who stuck up for his players more than Bobby did.
I am watching braves beating the marlins in game 3 NLDS right now and they brought up Bobby cox which then got me looking up this video. As soon as I read your comment, Adam Wainwright says on fox sports "nobody stood up for his players more than Bobby cox." Lol very weird.
When current manager Brian Snitker stood up for Ronald Acuña Jr. as a rookie, when an umpire was treating him like garbage, Snitker put that umpire in his place and made that ump look like a fool and he is now Snitker's bitch.
I watched a lot of Braves baseball during the Bobby Cox years. He was such a pro at getting ejected. The umps knew he had an eagle eye. He always stood up for his guys and got his money’s worth without looking like a jackass.
That’s also why I lived him so much. My granny got me into the Braves when I was super young n they’ve always been the only team I pull for essentially lol. I know I miss the days of sitting up and watching baseball games with her no matter how long they lasted lol. That was my favorite thing to do other than go to football games with my grandpa on the other side of the family lol. But yeah, Bobby was always so professional even when he could’ve went out there and blew a gasket like everyone else.
mike taylor He’s definitely one of my favorite managers ever. And he’s got that fighting spirit, so I am hopeful for his recovery. Glad he’s walking again.
The best manager who will stand up for his players. Had a lot of ejections for a reason. 1996 WS I still believe to this day that the Atlanta Braves were hosed/screwed. Yankees got multiple breaks that whole postseason (more than twice). Bobby Cox still the best of them all. At the end of the day the umpires have a lot of respect for him. The last regular season game back in 2010 shows that.
@Steven Irizarry Not hating the Yankees here. Respect the Yankees and their history....DYK (Did you know) that Bobby Cox was part of Billy Martin's coaching staff back in 1977. The same WS where Reggie hit his 3 Home Runs in Game 6.
holds the record for most career ejections for a reason. I always loved bobby cox. old school manager that never hesitated to stick up for his players.
And the call of Grissom out at 2nd makes me remember just how much I hated playing the Yankees in new York. They had a tough team to beat but throw in the home team friendly umps and they became nearly unbeatable.
A true leader. Ready to go head to head with anyone that tried to undermind his team. They loved and respected him and that is something you cannot buy. He earned all of it.
I know I am biased as a braves fan. But this is why Bobby was beloved, because he had his players back 100%. When he got tossed. It was for a legit reason.
Henry Hill was on the Howard Stern show a few days prior to the start of the series. He said,"It's a fix. The Yanks in 6." We got screwed on every close call in that series. Every one of them.
I have much love and respect for Bobby Cox, he was a great one. Growing up in the 80s and early 90s, WTBS showed more Braves games than the local channel showed Indians games. So I grew to be big fans of the Braves and many of their players over the years.
A huge reason in why the Braves have such a massive following everywhere. TBS. In Atlanta we knew it as channel 17. We got Andy Griffith reruns, wrestling and the Braves and it was awesome

14 years ago I went to the pro ump school run by the Wendelstedts. During the classes on ejections, one of my classmates asked Hunter which manager he hated dealing with the most. It was Bobby Cox. He said "If he came out to argue, I just walked in the opposite direction into the outfield. Most of the time he would give up so he didn't have to hobble his ass all the way out there."
I wish there was a heart option instead of like for this vid. I loved going to Turner Field as a kid and watching that legendary Braves team mid 90s - early 00's in person was awesome. PS, I knew this was going to be a long video lol.
I was hoping to see the Bobby Cox ejection out at Dodgers Stadium, when Ron Gant was struck out on some really bad pitches. Bobby Cox threw his snuff towards the umpires shoes. The best Bobby Cox ejection 🤣🤣
I love the ejection at Fenway at the 5:00 mark because Bobby just predicts which way Chipper was gonna try to get around him until Terry can come in and get Chipper.
Thank God for instant replay nowadays, I forgot all the times the braves have been screwed in those postseason series back in the day. Every bad call by the umpire is magnified 10x in the playoffs because you just don't have many chances to overcome them.
This man is so loved. Even if ya didn’t love him you respected him. Our Braves took that trophy to him and put it in his lap. He can no longer move his lips to smile but we are told that he smiled with his eyes and was so happy 😌. Respect
The *general* idea is that it's a swing if the batter breaks his wrists, which the batter didn't do which is probably why the announcers thought it wasn't a swing. I had to look this up because I didn't know it, if the bat goes over the plate it's a swing even if the wrists don't break. I played/watched baseball from when I was 5 until I was 18 and I didn't know that, so I'm willing to bet most people don't as well. If the announcer was an umpire he'd know that, but he's not, so try not to be too had on him lmao. Props to you for knowing
@@tylermuzzy1527 Yeah I'm sorry for being overly hostile because it's not exactly a common occurrence in baseball, but I feel like announcers should be more impartial and well-versed in the rules of baseball than 1) A guy from England (me) who didn't even grow up watching the sport and 2) A guy who doesn't get paid to commentate like they do. I can understand an average fan not knowing that rule but it seems like announcers protesting the call should know that.
I love Bobby man. He loved his fucking kids (players) and would go to war for them. This is the manager i grew up with and miss him everytime i watch a braves game. Miss seeing him out there defending his boys.
Pirates fans in the 90s loved watching Cox getting thrown out. He barely missed an entire 162 game season for being thrown out lol. Also Cox is pretty much right about all of these bad calls, lol. I wish Cox managed during replay to show these umpires up.
@10:07 the other Problem, he will not be in the dugout to begin with and just be paying attention to the games that are worried about what people are saying to him.
Being a life long Braves fan; I have to say Bobby Cox was the best manager the braves ever had (in Milwaukee Atlanta or Boston), and quite possibly in all of baseball. He was never ejected for acting like a jackass. He was ejected to protect his players which is what any good manager should do. And also in that 1996 World Series the Braves got screwed every call. It wasn’t just that game it was the whole series.
Tom Glavine has said he felt sick that he had to hit Dale Murphy, who was a good friend and former Braves teammate, and didn’t want to do it. But Cox thought Phillies pitchers had been throwing at Braves batters and told him to hit the first guy up in the 9th inning, which was Murphy. So Glavine threw some soft stuff inside, which missed him. But the fourth one in a row was so obvious, the ump tossed him. It was the only ejection of Glavine’s career.
Bobby cox stood up for his players that’s why everyone loved him
