    Just wanted to say thank you! I rebuilt my 4 screw Nikki carb that's on my B&S 19.5hp Opposed twin in April 2018, and it ran fine for about 5-6 cuts before the surging started slowly coming back again, only once blade load was removed, wouldn't idle worth a darn. I've tinkered with it off/on ever since, then just happened to see your video Sun morning. Went out to the garage & did basically as you described in your video. To my surprise, 3 hrs later of cutting the field, I was able to disengage blades 4x & put mower to idle to clear grass from the deck, and no surging!!! I thank you again for taking the time to post. Cheers!!

      Just to update, I've performed this little carb "clean-up" procedure 3-4x since originally posting, as mower did have a slight surging episode once... no issues. This seems to happen more in the hottest summer months cutting when grass is really dry, I have Gator Blades on my rider, which makes mincemeat of the grass. So I think the engine sucks more grass particles in @ this time of year. Again TY for the tip!!

      Buffalo Blue yeah they mower is gonna surge in the hot months u less u have the best gas online for your specific engine and good luck getting lucky to find a gas your small gas engines love I found a certain gas station I use locally to
      Fill up all 5 of my 5 gal gas tanks every morning and my small 2 gallon mix gas tanks for my lawn care business and I can tell a difference in how they run if my guys have to get the gas while out on a job sounds crazy but I ain’t kiddong

    A little air bleed cleaning like you did helps fix a rich hunting idle and mid speed running condition like you had. Mine was doing this the other day and I did the same thing before seeing this. Now that the grass is cut I'm just gonna do a complete rebuild along with putting everything in the ultrasonic so it will get me through next season with no headaches.

    My twin opposed Briggs was doing the same thing. I replaced the carburetor and it ran good for a while, then, started surging once again. Still have not found to cause. Will keep looking till I find it. Thanks for posting.

    My Murry, same setup you have is doing the same thing and separated the top of the carb so I could clean it even more. Ran the same jet wire you used and it's still surging. I will try it again. It's been a good mower and this is the only issue it's got. But thanks for the video

    • @57bagre
      @57bagre  Рік тому

      If I remember right the main jet is accessible through a bolt plug on the side of the bowl, you take the top off and that plug and a screwdriver through that hole to get that jet out to clean it. Try that, I think I did a video on that, it should be in my small engine video playlist.

    Dude! ya got me to cringe with them screws at the open Carb. (-:
    yeah, today my '87 B&S same carb setup needed more choke time, and was surging.
    Btw you don't need to pull that lower air filter box to access that hole....that's when I made myself cringe. Putting them wingnuts back on the bolts so not to lose, over open carb. Be just like me to fumble such and nut falls in carb...teaching neighborhood kids some new words. (-:

      oh yeah, thanks. Not a carb person at all. I did spray that hole but not much changed.
      At least from comments saying it's something for idle gives hope before farther, as idle is mostly my problem now. Two days back it even started at idle/no choke.

      x2 on the thank you Gordon, and your fans. A debt of gratitude sending over y'alls gunwale.
      ~ I'm not one to poke an orifice with a paper clip but I sprayed the idle thang hole a buncha with carb cleaner I happened to have. Even back down that other hole north. Blasted it with pinpoint air fitting off the compressor every which way I could.. and popped a beer...blew excess carb cleaner 'n gas off(looked like a fire Haz), said a prayer and BAM! My '87 B&S/Simplicity was running at far bottom idle again.
      Woot! again, Thanks everyone!

    When my Briggs twin does that, I just unscrew the needle valve adjustment screw all the way out and while it's running I take an air nozzle with a tapered end, stick it in the hole where I unscrewed the adjustment screw and blow it out while it's running. Works every time. No more loping.

    I don't have this kind of problem for my own personal and the one's I work on , I use 93 octane ethanol free with fuel stabilizer and seafoam in all small engines . Been using this concept for probably 6 years now , for I was told if I did it would cut down on Carburetor problems in the future . And it has .....

    I got a tractor with this motor that runs when I feed it fuel with a spray bottle but I can’t get the carb to run the engine itself for the life of me. I’ve cleaned it as much as possible with all the jets and pathways clear and still got nothing. What’s the most important parts to make this carb run??? Maybe I’m missing something???

    • @57bagre
      @57bagre  3 роки тому

      are you sure it is filling with gas? maybe you have a fuel pump or vacuum leak issue. I think I did a video on cleaning this carb at another time, look in my playlists for one called small engine repair or something like that. I know I did several carb cleaning videos. Good luck!

    I have this engine and need to remove the old carb and replace it. No videos on UA-cam about this particular model. Can't find any identifying numbers on the engine....do you know what carb to get? I'd love to see a video on removing and replacing this carb.

    • @57bagre
      @57bagre  3 роки тому +1

      Sorry I don't have time to do a video on that. Usually there is a sticker under the seat on a lawnmower that will tell you what model and serial number you have, you can go to partstree.com or a number of other small engine parts sources and look up your part number and order from them there or cheat them and take that part number and put it in the search on amazon and probably get it for a lot less money.

    • @gman4dx266
      @gman4dx266 Рік тому

      i bought a long throttle cable and dedicated choke cable from Amazon because I put one of these opposed twins on a 2013-ish Cub Cadet that needed a motor. The throttle cable I used is 48" long. Its a touch too long and you can cut it very carefully to shorten it but I didnt, I just pushed the loop behind the steering shaft under the dash. The choke cable is 37" long. It didnt need to be cut it was perfect for me. Amazon Item # for the throttle lever I used is B00D9TI6WI and the Amazon Item# for the choke lever/knob is B0948FJG88. I hope that helps you.

      A lot of could be's on that, usually takes me about 5 minutes to narrow it down with a test light and an ohm meter. Safety shut down switches like (low oil, under seat, mower deck clutch, etc.) ignition switch, coil, spark plug wires, bad or dirty wiring, bad or broken ground etc.
      Let me know what you find.

      Could be dirt from the fuel tank or the old fuel line could be deteriorating from the inside and contaminating the fuel. These usually run very well if maintained. Ive had quite a few machines come in after a new carb was installed, but the root problem was something else. Just sayin
