    GREAT VIDEO!!!!. Little hint on the fuel pump. When replacing diaphragm while on engine, use Vaseline on springs to hold in place. The fuel will wash it off. Just helps hold then while assembly on the engine

    Nice job. I got a Murray mower with the same opposed twin 14.5 hp rider mower last year that the guy was going to junk. Did the same carb overhall you are doing. Ran great, new blades and belt. Gave it to my daughter. She loves it. I think that was one of the best engines that Briggs ever made. Thanks for the video's.

    i love my opposed twins, 1986 16 horse mowed in summer & plowed the driveway in winter for 30 years.my 1995 19 horse runs ok, but hard to start.i got to adjust the valves this winter.their far enough out, the cranking speed compression release no longer works properly.dont want to spin over with full compression.if you change the oil every year & keep clean fuel & air filters on them they will run many, MANY years.neither my 86 or 95 burn oil.original rings on both.

      Interesting, I started working on the three machines I figured I'd re-learn plus small engine repair with riding lawn mowers with; Snapper with 280000 series, Poulan Pro with 31000 series and a Murray with a 422000 series (like in this video). I didn't realize the L-Head Opposed Twins have their own style Walbro and Nikki carbs. Have a Yard Man V-Twin I have to pay for and pick up later this week that is a 22HP which will be a new design to learn with also... though sounds like that engine is OK and runs. Neat watching and reading into. So far I have the Poulan Pro system up and running and made some UA-cam videos on my channel since I figured I'd share since others shared to show how to also. I've been documenting all the work on my Facebook also more-so: facebook.com/james.analytic
      Thanks for sharing!

    The best thing I did for mine was get a fully adjustable carb. The factory job was jetted way too lean and it had to be choked all the time. Not the adjustable. It will just putter along. That engine sounds fine! No junker there. My starter has been rough ever since I got it 2 years ago so I thought I'd check it out before the grass got cranked up so I was going to pull it out in the sun where I could see what's what and when I tried to start it, it STRIPPED totally out. Good timing. I had to go get a puller because with my hands bad I'd never get the inside starter bolt and a BARELY got the flywheel off with the puller. The pry bar and 3# hammer method didn't work. Finally got a gear at ACE but ordered 2 online with a 10 pack of 'C' clips so now I'm set. New gear sounds smooth as a car. And I broke the nipple off the plastic carb block when I rebuilt the carb before I got the adjustable. They've got them online too. Guess you pulled the dipstick tube when the shroud was off. Folks do strange stuff. Now I'm ready to mow and even cleaned and painted the mag and flywheel. You can have that wretched factory carb if you want it. I don't! I really ;like these motors and you did GOOD! Pick me 1!

      I hear ya, i hate that. I like some adjustment. I hear ya, its a pain pulling flywheels, sometimes they stick big time. I took the carb off 1992 18 HP 422707 with the 3 bolt fuel pump like this. today. Mower worked fine last time I used it couple weeks ago but now it would not start. It was surging pretty bad last season and I'd have to run it with choke open a bit. I'm thinking it the main jet dirty but not sure I tried adjusting the float first and still would not start. What's the best thing to clean the carb with while I have it apart that won't damage the old gaskets in case I want to use them since they seem ok? Do I just need carb cleaner to clean it good and wipe it out best I can? Thanks. Great video and these machines are the best imo because I've cut with the 46" MTD garden tractor for 27 years and nothing major has went wrong and I cut like 3 acres. Got Troy Bilt big red horse and have 230 hours on it an rearend is about to go out it clanks when it gets hot and now seems to be struggling a bit to pull. Got it in about 2006 and it's 50" cut but not been the mower that the MTD has been. Not half the mower actually.

    Mine is real intermittent, and I don't know why... I bought a new coil for it, now the spark is good. I've changed that 3 bolt pump kit more than once. I don't understand it... Once I get it running, it works fine for the day... then it will randomly not start, even If I pour gas down it?? I'm pulling my hair out at this point, this has gone on for a couple summers now. Everytime I have to mow, I'm rebuilding the carb and trouble shooting everything-- and I never actaully figure out the issue... it just all the sudden starts? I don't have any kill switches hooked up or anything.... Spark looks good. I sometimes I'll have it running, and if I lower to about mid throttle, all the sudden it bogs and dies... and I can't get it to start again... almost like the governor kicked the throttle all the way down and it stalled?? and after that I can't get it to start again.. almost like a compression release is stuck or something. Its driving me crazy because I fix this type of stuff all the time, but this thing has got me scratching my head. any insight at all would be great. is there not a better carb setup for these? other than the 3 or 4 bolt carbs with the pumps? I don't like those little pumps, they're so problematic.

    Great vid.... Glad to see a full breakdown on this engine and carb. Also in slow terms vs a speed vid with junk effects and music. I need some input and help on a matter. First, I have the 4 screw pump. I'm playing hell finding the part number for the guts inside the pump. I need to rebuild it. Anyone know that part number? Carb is # 69281. Next, I am in the stage of cleaning carb and forgot the line hook up. Meaning hoses and fuel line. On my carb there is 1 line to go to pump. On the carb is 1 brass copper hook up on side. One hose is short going to carb other is fuel line. Where does fuel line go on carb? pump or carb side.

    I have an old Sear's Craftsman 18HP lawn tractor with the exact same engine and carb. I'm having an issue with it not getting enough gas upon start-up after it's sat for a while. • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  4 роки тому +1

      This one doese the exact same thing, if it sits for more than a few days it takes i'd say 10 seconds of cranking. It did help after I rebuilt the carburetor this last time, the fuel pump diaphragm was stretched some. I also put a fuel valve on it thinking maybe it was siphoning out of the carburetor somehow, but it didn't help it. Also check the fuel filter if its clogged it will slow the fuel down getting to it. You didn't put the other spring in the fuel pump...there are TWO small springs that go in that fuel pump. When you get a kit there are TWO springs...one where you put it and one goes on a little post on the plastic block to run the other little diaphragm flap. You need to put a little grease on it to hold it while you put the plastic center piece in place.
