It really is. Its one of those weird waltzes where it goes against the traditional 3/4 time and 84-90 bpm. Even the Hyena theme from Lion King stuck to that lol.
I dont care how stupid this movie was. 1.) Edward Gracey was hot 2.) Eddie Murphey kept me awake through out the film 3.) This movie is good with a decent soundtrack and creepyness.
I think most feel the movie tried too hard to be funny But what some people don't realize is that the original ride is a mix of funny and scary. Sure, the ride can be creepy at times, but there many more humorous moments, especially in the second half with all kinds of quirky-looking ghosts like the Singing Busts, the party guests in the Grand Hall, the decapitated knight, the executioner, the prisoner, and the Hitchhiking Ghosts. Still, I gotta hand it to the movie crew for trying to tie all of these elements together, as the ride itself didn't really have much of a real story at all... Except maybe the idea of the Mansion being a "ghost retirement home".
I love this movie, it has a ton of stuff that is from the ride. The singing bust, Madame Leota, the Hitchhiking ghost, the changing portraits, and the graveyard ghost.
2:55 They should play that version at the actual ride at Disneyland. It would be OUTSTANDING! Everybody walks into the ride and the second they step into the front room with the fireplace that is what they would hear.
"Oh, I didn't mean to frighten you prematurely. The real chills come later. Now as they say look alive and will continue our little tour, and let's all stay together please."
Easily the best part of the movie. The opening credits and this music. What I'll always remember and take from this movie. But I think it's about time for a remake...
+MDR173 I AGREE! Whenever I think of this movie, the first thing that comes to mind is the opening credits and Overture. My favorite part of the Overture is definitely 2:09
+Alex S My favorite parts were the two parts that included the theme from the ride. It was awesome how they made it sound so much more sullen and ominous. The visual aspect of those parts is also superb. In the beginning, the floating candelabra ALONE gives me immeasurable nostalgic pleasure, and then in the end, the pan out from the mansion, going through the swampy estate, is perfectly chilling.
This movie failed so hard that if Disney would have to choose a failure for a remake it would be or Treasure Planet as it doesn't have such a bad score on RT or Atlantis which at least was nominated
Yeah and those heads were the singing voices of The Dapper Dans they are a Barbershop Quartet Group. They also sang the voices of the Be Sharps Homer Apu Skinner and Chief Wiggum later replaced by Barney just like Pete Best was replaced by Ringo Starr (based off of the Beatles naturally) in the Simpsons episode Homers Barbershop Quartet which starred the voices of David Crosby and George Harrison.
SFX grade: A+ (those zombies!!) Music: A+ (Perfect.) Cast: B- (Eddie Murphy offset by Terrence Stamp) Overall story: C+ (kinda hard to base a movie off a ride, but reminds me of Phantom Manor with the wedding)
After seeing the movie in college and immediately falling in love, this week I went to Disney World and finally rode the ride! I thought it'd be fun, and it was even better than I thought!
lilbunnylily as someone who worked at Disney World and rode the ride A LOTTTT, there are so many nods to the ride in this movie, I think they did a great job!
Does anyone else hear the Simpsons theme song in the start? I watched them both very close together and can now hear it so much getting the two stuck in my head together!!
Deucey Dee "Which offers you this "chilling" challenge: To find a way out! (Hahahaha!!) Of course there's always my way........." Oh I didn't mean to frighten you prematurely. (Evil Chuckle) The real chills come later. Now as they say look alive & we'll continue our little tour and let's all stay together... please."
2:55 I work at a haunted attraction and we have that clipit part of the haunted mansion. As you walk into the haunted that piece begins to play and the main fireplace is rigged to ignited as you walk in and one of our actors comes walking down the stairs. He's a headless butler that tours you through the first part. The second part is completely up to the patrons to find their way out.
The movie imo was alright, but I do feel there can still be a remake at some point in the future. Maybe even include some of the elements from Phantom Manor as well.
Gosh darnit. This opening set up such an intriguing and fascinating plot and style, and then WHAM it's all jokes and giggles. I mean, I appreciated that as a kid but I hope the Guillermo del Toro version comes out soon.

I don't get it, a baroque masquerade in the victorian period? It's a bit strange that this house is a mix between Venetian Renaissance, French Baroque and Victorian Era, excellent movie though
+Cinedragon I love this movie!! Watch it every Halloween and before Disney trips :D it's just as scary as the ride I guess, which is Awesome! It's a comedy for Disney fans and families, doesn't need any scares. Happy Halloween!
@@stefanmovieflixtomasi and thats the kind of music I go for! Intense lol. That's why I tend to stick with danny elfman a lot, even though this isn't his score.
It's kind of a given that this movie would turn out to be more than a little campy, considering that Eddie Murphy is the main character, but the premise itself wasn't bad. And the music is awesome, and there were several genuinely good lines, like when Master Gracey says, "If you listen closely, you can still hear the beating of his broken heart."
I think if there were to be a Phantom Manor movie, this piece, or a variation of it, would be used somewhere. I agree that it sounds like Phantom Manor and I think that it was probably inspired by it to some degree.

Because it's campy and some of the dialogue could use a major rewrite. However, it is definitely a guilty pleasure.
I guess because some of the writing is pretty awkward at times and cringe jokes lol
2:55 They should play that version at the actual ride at Disneyland. It would be OUTSTANDING! Everybody walks into the ride and the second they step into the front room with the fireplace that is what they would hear.

Love this, I want to buy an old victorian/neogothic house from the 19th century and design it like the disney haunted mansion.
