Does anyone else get incredibly Nostalgic when watching the Disney Princess movies? I swear, this song makes me feel lonely and old at the same time. This is a song that could play during a video scene of a post-apocalyptic world, it could play during a dancing scene to make it more powerful... it could play during a scary scene in a movie.... this song is a master piece. I honestly love this... Lana Del Ray did an amazing job with this song. It fits the entire lonesomely haunting persona of Maleficent. She is both dark, sad, and beautiful... just as this song is.
Do yourself a favor and read the original stories all the Disney princess movies are based off of, makes this song and the retelling of Sleeping Beauty that much more beautiful. A lot of the ones based off of books are now free, currently reading Peter Pan and Wendy, totally different story once you know what's actually going on in the Disney movie. The reason that the kids in Neverland never grow old is because it's a place for wandering souls of children that have died to gather and play for forever. Most of them pale in comparison to their original works.
Mustang McKraken If you actually read original fairy tales, you'd find out that they were much more sick, twisted, gruesome and perverted than the ones Hans Christian Andersen wrote, well re-wrote. For example, in original Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, when princess (Aurora) fell asleep, prince (whom we know as Phillip) came in and raped her, and she gave birth to twins. That's not actually something I would want my kid to read and know, well at least not before they're at least in teen age. Disney, however, does the marvelous work with fairy tales, and this song is absolutely amazing. :)
This is literally the most enchanting song ever it makes me want to go back and re-watch all the Disney movies Lana your voice is incredible love love love
Lana Del Rey's voice was beyond ideal for the movie. Very unique voice and rich in an old school cinematic vibe. The right kind of voice for a dark fairytale. Enchanting in a spooky way.
This was the first time I heard Lana bc I remember hearing this song at the end of film and then my mom said this sounds creepy so she dipped out 😂. I wish I could’ve stayed in the theater to hear the whole song.
You've just described how I feel listening to an instrumental track from years ago. You might want to check it out, if this song brings that image to mind. It's called 'Nightingale II' by Judy Collins, from the album 'Whales and Nightingales'. Hope you like it.
This music is beautiful, the movie it went with was groundbreaking. Such a beautiful story. Full of hatred jealousy and anger turned into mercy, love, and passion. How beautiful to have love grow within someone who never thought she'd love again 😭😭
briar rose Actually, I think that Maleficent is singing about Stefan because I’ve read that this version of the song is about how love was found, felt deeply and lost somehow, but not forgotten.
They couldn't have found a better person with the right voice for the movie. Lana's voice is intoxicatingly gothic. She sounds like she is right from the 60s. Cinematic and a very rich voice.
It's interesting because the way Lana Del Rey sings this song is quite haunting yet luminous in a way that enchants you. This is the first Lana Del Rey song I have heard, yet I would love to hear more.
I visualize myself wearing a long and beautiful gown while walking calmly into the deep forest as in hypnotized by this beautiful and mysterious voice singing such an enchanting melody.
I love hoe Disney is branching off to show the different types of love, before it was all romantic but now they show how true love is also sisterly(Frozen) and maternal(Malecficent) I think the message is beautiful.
It is, but that doesn't mean it's the only type of love, I think its good that Disney is sort of coming out of it's little romantic bubble and, in my opinion is giving more substantial material.
Perhaps the reason they've done so many romantic movies is because people wanted to feel in love more than they wanted to feel fondness for family members.
I loved the alternative meaning of Maleficent singing this song, in light of the story line. Where once Maleficent hated this child of the man she'd loved and been betrayed by, she came to love her as much as she'd love her own child. I thought it splendid.
It took her over 15years before she even tried once to remove the curse. Maleficent never did anything motherly in the movie. At best, she loved her like a girlfriend.
Went to a wedding where this was the first dance for the couple, she was in a fitted lace gown, the lights went dim, and the floor was lit with blue led lights with a fog, there was also a strobe effect on the ceiling cloud decorations. Still replay it in my head from time to time.
one thing that I love about her voice in this song is it doesn’t seem too bubbly, it almost feels…darker in a sense. It feels like something that I can’t really describe. It almost seems like a dark academia vibe. I love this version so much.
@@lechatte6482 I mean, sixty eight people got a kick out of the comment while you decided to act self righteous. Dunno if the OP is the one being a snoeflake here, friend.
It could actually because maleficent really loved Stefan but he didn't so all this was like a dream and I also think this suits maleficent way more than Aurora
I can picture a "what if" twisted version of Aurora dancing to this while still eternally sleeping after the Prince failed to save her. On her own in the field of thorns. Everyone back at the castle still asleep. She’s sleep walking/dancing if you will. And her dreams never come true.
How does she sound like that?! Nobody can sing this song better than her. How lucky she is to have a voice like no other.. she has her own genre I feel. She's just the luckiest ever and most blessed ❤❤❤
Just imagine a pair dressed in black dancing ballet but the girl's eyes are closed throught the whole dance, until the end when she opens her eyes and her partner is nowhere to be seen, in that moment she relizes it was all just a dream...
LYRICS: I know you I walked with you once upon a dream I know you That look in your eyes is so familiar, a gleam And I know it's true That visions are seldom all they seem But if I know you, I know what you'll do You'll love me at once The way you did once upon a dream But if I know you, I know what you'll do You'll love me at once The way you did once upon a dream I know you I walked with you once upon a dream I know you That gleam in your eyes is so familiar, a gleam And I know it's true That visions are seldom all they seem But if I know you, I know what you'll do You'll love me at once The way you did once upon a dream
When I was a little girl this song was my favourite and I'd skip around singing it. I thought it was all about beauty and how love would always be perfect, how life would be perfect when I was older, how I'd find Prince Charming and the princess life. But nowadays 20 years later, this song fills me with tears of regret and sadness because life didn’t turn out how I expected, and I look back on those early childhood years, wishing to be back there and regretful of how I wanted to grow up so fast.
I'm a Psychiatrist. There are so many women that grow-up with the idealistic Disney -- Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty syndrome, into what's referred to as a "social imaginary" conceptualization. These people, unfortunately sabotage their own marriage(s), trying to find their "Prince Charming". This is the main reason why mother's are so important to their son's -- Conversely, the same with father's to their daughter's. Although, this is not an absolute law; however, it's a good indicator. The individual usually defines romantic relationships in accordance to their parents, as the template for that ideological love. Please don't regret your life-decisions. We all are in a state of flux, so just be yourself. If you show who you truly are, then your future partner will find you... !!! When we focuses on "active searching" then, it's usually is perceived as desperation. Women should not look for a "fixer-upper guy", as well as, confident men don't want the eternal "helpless little princess". I'm happy that Disney is finally portraying girl's as adventurous, independent, and the hero's of their own adventures. If there is a boy, he's usually placed in the background, but he doesn't always come to her rescue. We need more "Wonder Women" influence -- refined, educated, self-assured, independent -- Yet, still very much a lady. Just like Lana del Rey's singing: a bit of mystery, strong on her own, some depth with a dash of darkness, and very, very beautiful.
This song has a dark, comfortable feel to it that makes me imagine myself in a black, elegant dress in a big, dark hall lit by moonlight, dancing with the shadows of my imagination.
I don't picture this as dark. I picture a by chance meeting where a woman and a man lock eyes and are drawn to each other. Everything fades away for those mere moments but to them, it seems like their souls are trying to catch with what has happened, leading up to the moment they met. Their minds think of the future of what could be. The happiness, the beauty, the closeness. And in that moment, the line between dream and reality is shattered.
Honestly, I don't think of super creepy things when I listen to this song. It's more mesmerizing than depressing to me, kind of like a spell, not necessarily an evil one, just one that's mysterious and haunting.
Truthfully, I think that it's as mysterious as it is depressing. It puts you in a mood you've never felt before, and keeps you there, waiting until you understand what it all means.

I always get chills when i listen to this song. It's truly magnificent, just like Maleficent! My inner Disney soul always comes out to this song, as well as other Disney jams.
Since Larry Boy and the Rumor Weed and Duke and the Great Pie War,everyone enjoys Royalty and Lulu Plummer was there for her. Lulu was never afraid of Maleficent.
I saw the movie when I was pregnant with our first child :) I was mesmerized by it and kept singing it over and over. When our son was born I sang it to calm him down while wearing him in a sling. Now it's his lullaby :) whenever he hears this, he's off to Dreamland 😇 I need this in a loop!!!
This sounds like an immortal being singing to their reborn soulmate. Maybe this is only the second time to have had their beautiful soulmate, but they know their love so very well. They just wish they didn't have to go through heartbreak every time their beloved died.
I have so many thoughts on this song. I feel like it’s about having a dream state and just being so happy with someone in your life and the song is about later when something bad happens and you reflect on it. I feel The song is kinda about being somewhat in denial but also just reminiscing on the dream that you found out wasn’t really what you thought it was and you are kind of longing for the dream before you found out that it was fake or faded away. I think it’s a song about sadness and denial and pain and wishing it could have been different, but also accepting that it was all fake.
I watched Maleficent all the time as a kid and I used to think this song was kind of creepy, but now that I'm older it just brings me so much nostalgia whenever I listen to it. It also reminds me of my Gigi (Grandma) because we used to watch it all the time together and it was our favorite movie to watch whenever I went over to her house for family dinners or to spend the night. :)
This song is perfect in the Lana Del Rey's voice. Angelina Jolie was a bright Maleficent. Great actress and beautiful woman. I love the part when Maleficent arrives at the castle and says: "Well Well Well" I think it's so dark.
I love how hypnotic her voice sounds, it’s the kind of song that’d be used for a “we could’ve been something in another universe” sort of dynamic. Maybe I’m just reading too many fanfics

There's no denying it though- romantic love is one of the best feelings in the world.
Not even joking, this song use to actually put me in a hypnotic state. It's so beautiful, so ominous.
Yes lol
It's the Lana Del Rey effect
Give it the thanks to Tchaikovsky.
He's the one who made the main melody.
Although Lana Del Rey it's a very good singer.
@@leonardogabrieltrevinoloba2377 I knew I heard that tune somewhere
the instrumental is also so soothing and gorgeous, makes me want to drift into a 100 yr sleep

At best, she loved her like a girlfriend.
her voice with this music is just beautifully haunting
Her voice has such a haunting melody, I love it!
Went to a wedding where this was the first dance for the couple, she was in a fitted lace gown, the lights went dim, and the floor was lit with blue led lights with a fog, there was also a strobe effect on the ceiling cloud decorations. Still replay it in my head from time to time.
Claire Knight that’s beautiful
Wow
Claire Knight I have no words 😍😍😍
Pics or it didn’t happen
Claire Knight is perfect for a wedding if the bride or groom were in their dreams before they met ❤
Such a beautifully haunting and dream-esque reinterpretation of this classic.
I’m hypnotized by this song, I can’t stop listening to it
neither can I 💙🥺

IM PISSED THEY DIDNT INVITE LANA BACK TO MAKE THE NEW SOUNDTRACK
Yes. Lana Del Rey is more epic than Bebe Rexha.
She got to be in the first and only most important version of the story. Not looking forward to the 2nd movie.
Me too
lana was amazing but i also liked bebe
The first Maleficent was amazing, the new 2nd movie was ass
Bro, i really love this version, I can’t describe what I feel when I listen to the instrumental
one thing that I love about her voice in this song is it doesn’t seem too bubbly, it almost feels…darker in a sense. It feels like something that I can’t really describe. It almost seems like a dark academia vibe. I love this version so much.
i can imagine listening to this in the car at night time in the winter maybe after it rained SO BEAUTIFUL
YES
Exactly what I thought but I'd be listening to this and look outside to see it snowing with trees covered with snow, my narnia.
Yay much aestetic
Wow I was thinking the exact same thing wtf.
oh my god. I'm picturing it....so beautiful
I can imagine maleficent singing this while softly combing aurora' s pretty blonde hair in a large window as the thunderstorm passed by their castle.
That would be beautiful to see
Lanas voice really fits maleficents character. They lyrics also makes me imagine that maleficent is talking about stefan after he leaves her

The original was sung by Sleeping Beauty. But this version sounds like it's sung by Maleficent if Angelina Jolie could sing. Fitting!!! xD
The original music is from late XIX century
Tchaikovsky was the composer of the sleeping beauty waltz written for orchestra
It could actually because maleficent really loved Stefan but he didn't so all this was like a dream and I also think this suits maleficent way more than Aurora
I legit thought Angelina sang this, but Lana splayed this!
*"If Angelina Jolie could sing"*
I can picture a "what if" twisted version of Aurora dancing to this while still eternally sleeping after the Prince failed to save her. On her own in the field of thorns. Everyone back at the castle still asleep. She’s sleep walking/dancing if you will. And her dreams never come true.
That's deep man

It's like 2 am here and istg this creep the shit outta me, but it's sad at the same time lol.

This is like the lady of the lake in The Haunting of Bly Manor
How does she sound like that?! Nobody can sing this song better than her. How lucky she is to have a voice like no other.. she has her own genre I feel. She's just the luckiest ever and most blessed ❤❤❤

LYRICS:
I know you
I walked with you once upon a dream
I know you
That look in your eyes is so familiar, a gleam
And I know it's true
That visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once
The way you did once upon a dream
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once
The way you did once upon a dream
I know you
I walked with you once upon a dream
I know you
That gleam in your eyes is so familiar, a gleam
And I know it's true
That visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once
The way you did once upon a dream

When I was a little girl this song was my favourite and I'd skip around singing it. I thought it was all about beauty and how love would always be perfect, how life would be perfect when I was older, how I'd find Prince Charming and the princess life. But nowadays 20 years later, this song fills me with tears of regret and sadness because life didn’t turn out how I expected, and I look back on those early childhood years, wishing to be back there and regretful of how I wanted to grow up so fast.
Aw💗💗💗💗
I'm still a kid but I really wanna find true love wich is weird for me..
and now you’re shitting on her new music 💖 hate that for you
I'm a Psychiatrist.
I felt this in my soul
Prince Phillip: But don't you remember? We've met before.
Aurora: W- we have?
Prince Phillip: Why of course you said so yourself, *once upon a dream*
dashie's bbgurl So creepy, I heard their voice in my head

Imagine the creepy version of it now. Its not about fantasy, but its about death
This song has a dark, comfortable feel to it that makes me imagine myself in a black, elegant dress in a big, dark hall lit by moonlight, dancing with the shadows of my imagination.
Fr
I don't picture this as dark. I picture a by chance meeting where a woman and a man lock eyes and are drawn to each other. Everything fades away for those mere moments but to them, it seems like their souls are trying to catch with what has happened, leading up to the moment they met. Their minds think of the future of what could be. The happiness, the beauty, the closeness. And in that moment, the line between dream and reality is shattered.

Honestly, I don't think of super creepy things when I listen to this song. It's more mesmerizing than depressing to me, kind of like a spell, not necessarily an evil one, just one that's mysterious and haunting.
for me eerie and soothing. I really like it ;-)
+Kim Uitslag I've been listening to it non-stop for days 😅
yep
Truthfully, I think that it's as mysterious as it is depressing. It puts you in a mood you've never felt before, and keeps you there, waiting until you understand what it all means.

Good God I love this song.
Not only did it fit the theme of the movie extremely well, but Lana's voice makes the song have such a haunting twist.
Also Disney used an old 1950s vintage microphone to make her voice sound different. Like she's on those old radios
Nikita Komatsu you guys do know this song is a remake right?
No bullshit Sherlock. I wonder where DISNEY'S maleficent came from.... Certainly not from an animated movie it's so original

It's so eerie and dark, gives you the shivers but it's enthralling. Beautifully perfected, cannot wait for Maleficent
Yes it does this song is amazingly beauiful.
I remember going to the movies. And at the end, it was dark and cold. I stayed until the end to listen to Lana loud and clear.
Her voice is haunting, it's perfect for the Maleficent movie they knew they picked a good one.
Angelina Jolie hand picked her cause they're homies apparently
it's soooooooooo amazing.
This sounds like an immortal being singing to their reborn soulmate. Maybe this is only the second time to have had their beautiful soulmate, but they know their love so very well. They just wish they didn't have to go through heartbreak every time their beloved died.
Honesty reminds me of Elizabeth and Meliodas in the 7 Deadly Sins where he has seen Elizabeth die thousands of times but he always finds her.
So she loves a baby 🤨🤨🤨
I'm sorry, but, what the heck?!
You described exactly what I feel everytime I listen this song
they literally chose the right person for this soundtrack
I watched Maleficent all the time as a kid and I used to think this song was kind of creepy, but now that I'm older it just brings me so much nostalgia whenever I listen to it. It also reminds me of my Gigi (Grandma) because we used to watch it all the time together and it was our favorite movie to watch whenever I went over to her house for family dinners or to spend the night. :)
This sounds like its playing from an intercom in post apocalyptic earth. I like it!
Oh my god imagine if this is one of the songs that plays from the radio in AHS Apocalypse!!! That would be music and tv magic!!!
It does
This song is perfect in the Lana Del Rey's voice. Angelina Jolie was a bright Maleficent. Great actress and beautiful woman.
I love the part when Maleficent arrives at the castle and says: "Well Well Well" I think it's so dark.
I loved how she did that entire scene exactly like in the original cartoon. She sounded identical to that voice actor in this scene.
