- The CW's Green Arrow series "Arrow" has been out for 2 seasons now, and with so many fan requests to review it....I still never watched it. Hiwever, I have finnaly watched season 1 and can't wait to talk about it! Here's my review of "Arrow" season 1!

Arrow is SO much better than Agents of Shield. The ONLY reason it is staying on TV is because of all the MARVEL fanboys who are so arrogant they can't even admit that it's terrible.
Personally I like both. Both have their place because they have different tones, just like The Flash has a different tone than Arrow. The only arrogance is in thinking one fandom is superior to another.

Season one was the season that got me into Arrow of course, that's kinda obvious. But season two was so much better, When you see Slade go all Deathstroke on those bitches you just think to yourself "Never piss off Manu Bennett"
I'll just say this. Up until Arrow came out, Ron Perlman had the indisputable crown as greatest incarnation of Slade Wilson on Teen Titans.
Then Manu Bennett came and said "psh, I can rock this character" and kicked Perlman off his throne.
Perlman's the best animated Slade, Manu's the best Live action one. Just like how Mark Hamill is the best joker even though he's animated, so Ledger takes the Live action one for me, just above nicholson
well i REALLY love the voices behind the animated slade but Manu Bennett is an amazing Slade! He is freaking intimedating and does one hell of a job acting out that villain.
As good as season one was, season 2 was like 10 times better because of all the Deathstroke stuff.
And Oliver becomes more of a hero because of the end events of season 1
Malik McAdams I personally don't like Oliver's little "must not kill; must not kill at all" Batman phase, but he does get his shit together as a superhero, and it's awesome.
I still think Deathstrokes motives could have been a bit more logical, I find his vengenge a bit shaky, and i would have liked it a more cut and dry motivation. (Trying to avoid too many spoilers here) But its like we know Oliver wasn't exactly guilty nor in a position to effect the outcome, hating him doesn't make alot of sense to me.
They want to say his Slade's mental state is in question, but he seams fairly placid, both in the past and present, you think he might stop and question it himself. He wasn't obviously disturbed enough to explain his determinated motives from very flaky grounds.

They claim that after the fact, the whole things just feels... so forced. I feel it could have been handled or portrayed just a bit differently to much greater effect.

Such as actually making Oliver pull the trigger or actually making a choice. Or showing us slade's mental demons a bit prior to the event. Ok sure he's a tad more aggressive but thats not entirely far off from his normal self, and he appeared to be quite placid.
Slade Wilson / Deathstroke is one of those villains that you think will never be defeated. You have to watch the whole season 2; you'll see what I'm talking about.
I can understand people falling off the show after season 4, but damn has season 5 cleaned up the problems

This show is one of my favorites on TV now. Season 2 was indeed awesome, Season 3 is shaping up very well, and The Flash...if the pilot is any indication, the series will be every bit as awesome.

Being "Episodic" doesn't bother me at all. I Enjoy the characters, so i like seeing them in stuff. Buffy and Angel and Firefly were all Episodic and i loved the shit out of all of them. Also, I HATE 13 episode seasons. Loving Legend of Korra. I want more episode per season. Love Game of Thrones, i want more per season. Then again i Binge watch shows, so slow episode don't bother me cause i can just watch the next episode.
I'd take 13 episode seasons over the 6 episode seasons that you tend to get over here in the UK :(
pixelpi funny thing is i hear alot especially with many shows in the uk and ireland is even with the 6 episode format they end after 3 series (though mostly with comedies ) and the usual response is either to end on a high or because they have ran out of ideas exampls /father ted/faulty towers/porridge

I used to dislike the Legend of Korra (i saw the second season and changed my mind), but i did read up that the fact that there are so few episodes per season and almost an entire year before the next season i can see why the show turns people away. Game of Thrones im willing to wait for, because we all know it will be worth it.
I agree being episodic makes it interesting for me and makes me interested into what the next episodes plot will be. I just hope Jeremy gets to see seasons 2 because I think its gonna be one of the best when all of these superhero shows get going. It's gonna be up there with The Walking Dead. And just a little side comment here but I like all your deadpool videos especially the PSA's and was wondering if you were gonna do more, big fan :)

granknight Constantine the series hasn't even aired yet. The comic Hellblazer was cancelled a year ago in favour of New 52 Constantine which is not terrible but it's not good either, he is a totally different character at this point.
RomaNos Constantine episode 1 was release in june and there has been no episode 2 since then and its already july 23,2014 as of today the show got axed on the first episode (⌐_⌐) i just hope its not permanent.

Honestly, I don't like how they try to make Oliver into Bruce Wayne. Brooding is Batman's thing. Leave him be. Superman is the schoolboy, Oliver's the ass, and Batman is the dark knight. Stop trying to make every superhero Batman!

You're gonna love season 2 Jeremy! They make it more comic booky without over doing it, so its great with references and classic green arrow trademarks, but still realistic for the show. They even made one of the stupidest batman vilian ever, 'the clock king' seem cool in the show :)

I get to a point in Arrow where I find the back story of Oliver on the Island more interesting that what's happening in the present. But hands down, season 2 is awesome!
Such a great show! I also thought it was going to be stupid,but it just blew me away.The backstory of him being on the island alone could be its own series! Amazing show,as well as season 2! Amazeballs! Looking forward to season 3!

A lot of people love the 2nd season and I'll admit it's pretty good ,definitely top 3 overall, but there was something special about first one, the darkness, the roughness, almost "the dark knight" style to it made it amazing, the "list" of people that failed the city and putting them down for good, slade wilson, tommy, the dynamic he had with laurel, the fighting scenes were also very well choreographed , i could rave and probably write an entire book of how much I used to love the show at its beginning...
Unfortunately the writers slowly ruined it with Olicity drama making oliver look like a incompetent fool ,and only towards the later seasons show kinda got back on track , still never to the heights of the first 2 seasons.

Arrow is fun and interesting, but it has a ton of problems. Predictable and cliched. Dialogue wasnt too good either. Add an annoying sister and meh mother. Still enjoyed it tho.

Stephen Amell is greatness. Like pure greatness. He does something in season 2 that wasn't in the script and I was like AWE YEAH BADASS. Also just wait for Manu in season two. Juuuust wait cause it's so terrifying and awesome.

I very much enjoy AoS. It's just like Arrow's first year: slow build then gets going in the back half. Sure to be a very good second season, just like Arrow. The Flash pilot I saw was quite good. Humorous, enjoyable performance from Gustin and that one easter egg (ripped cage) was lovely and the ending was pure nuts.
xShineyxDiverx I hated the scene of the Flash with the Arrow in it. it was a dumb scene.. the Arrow smiled more in that scene then in 2 seasons of his own show... then for some reason he spidermaned away which is something he has not done in the whole of his show. also the dialogue was pretty crap.

Same, the script is cliched to fuuuuuuuck. I roll my eyes at least twice in every episode, I even yell at some of the massive contradictions in the script from the same episode.
im the only one out of my friends who actully enjoys it some say thats its gay cause he is shirtless in every episode or its to sexual or stuff like that.

Manu Bennet's preformance in season 2 is beyond awesome. I would try to watch a few episodes before you meet him because that's where his best preformances are.
I have a hard time getting into Arrow because I love Green Arrow in the comics, and the TV Ollie character is practically nothing like (personality-wise) comics Ollie. Plus why the fuck can't they call him Green Arrow, whats with this Hood shit!? I am looking forward to the Flash show cause I did watch the Barry Allen episodes of Arrow and thought they did justice to comics Barry, and if that show is good I will probably give Arrow a real try.

no, he is known as Green Arrow and he is just the same, the only real difference between old52 and new52 Ollie is that new52 Ollie is pretty obsessed with being in the Justice League.

Hey, Jeremy? I have a request for you, if there's a thing now where fans request you to watch a specific TV show or movie.
I saw your season 2 review of Sherlock and back then, I agreed with you when you said you had no interest in watching Elementary. I hadn't seen it, I watched the review roughly 10 minutes after seeing the Reichenbach Fall for the first time, I was high on excitement, and felt nothing could ever beat Sherlock in a billion years.
And then after rewatching Sherlock with friends and everyone I wanted to show it to, I was bored, and was searching for shows that I'd find appealing - I just felt like watching something Sherlock Holmes-like. So I decided to give Elementary a try because why the hell not.
I have yet to see Arrow, but judging by what you said in this particularly excellent review, I think Elementary will surprise you the same way Arrow did, as long as you not do one thing: compare it to Sherlock. It's NOTHING like Sherlock. You called Sherlock the definitive Sherlock Holmes experience, I agree with you, it warps you straight into the world of Conan Doyle in every way possible and has every bit of traditional vibe as it does normal. In Elementary, however, the setting itself changes so much - New York City is in the USA and it already feels quite homey - the increased involvement of the NYPD increases the vibe you'd get off your typical CBS procedural. And Sherlock Holmes the consulting detective just so happens to be in this generic crime-show world.
He vamps up this world SO MUCH. First off, it being a CBS procedural, seasons are longer, and character drama, while being there, is explored through multi-episode story arcs with episodes in between being interesting in their own right but long-running arcs kicking in to increase the momentum. The storylines found here are all from the canon - the look and feel of the show is very "rustic", but has that modern element to it much more to give it a more contrasted, interesting look. The canon being placed in this newer world makes it very interesting because you can just identify these little elements from Sherlock and the books and everything and it's entertaining seeing the show's take on it. The writing is BRILLIANT when compared to other crappy police shows and even comes awfully close to Sherlock at times.
The episodes are only 45 minutes in length, giving time to focus on the cases and increase the suspenseful momentum - however, the little glimpses of Sherlock's personal life don't feel "crammed" or "rushed" - you get new things every time to feel as though you spend equal time with characters and mystery - the chemistry between Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu is strong and extremely well-done, being dynamic and never getting romantic or cheesy, further emphasizing the well-executed characterization that always has a presence in every episode. The acting is fantastic, the stories strong with light yet clever details that are easier to follow but also easy to appreciate, and the CAST. WOW. They have a seriously impressive cast and list of guest stars that includes Rhys Ifans, Natalie Dormer, Vinnie Jones, F. Murray Abraham, Faran Tahir, John Hannah, and more. I recommend seeing it, the first few episodes were VERY impressive and the story arcs are EXTREMELY compelling.

I loved Elementary as well. Personally I enjoy it more than Sherlock. Both do a good job on showing a modern take on the classic characters and stories, but I just appreciate the characters in Elementary more.

This show really did get into its stride with the last two episodes of this season and started to move up to the next level but it was still really great before then. I can now see this show going places... That finale though: amazing :/

He's said it's a good show but he has no emotional/nostalgic connection to it, so he doesn't really care for them.
The problem with reviewing those is; it takes up too much time! Would I like him to do it? Yeah I would but I would understand why he didn't.

Yay! Jeremy finally watched Arrow! I love that show.
But Jeremy, will you EVER acknowledge and watch Supernatural? Have you watched it? I really don't think you have otherwise you would know that yes, there is another show on the CW with a dark tone to it... Like REALLY dark. There are things they do on that show, horror-wise, that I can't believe gets approved by the higher ups to be on network TV.
Maybe Arrow will get Jeremy to check out Supernatural.

The first five seasons are my favorite. I lost touch with the series during Season 6. I kinda wish it had ended with the 5 season Kripke story arc, but I've caught new episodes here and there that were pretty good.
That said, doesn't mean Jeremy shouldn't check out the first five seasons. It is a good show and not the usual type of CW fodder. Never was.
Season 2 is even better!
I hadn't seen season 1, but hearing that The Flash would be introduced in season 2 I started watching, and loved it. I'm looking forward to this fall on the CW.

I just rewatched. Man I haven't cried in so long the ending tears me apart so much it's so..... Good it's so sad it's good I hated Tommy but the way he died was so sad. Everything was just intense. I loved it.

I didn't think I would like Arrow as much as I did because I have been strictly animated shows since...well forever, and I'd already come to love Green Arrow in Justice League. But, I really, really love Oliver in Arrow. And seeing them bring in characters I recognize from the animated show is awesome. I am also super stoked for The Flash!
The beginning of Arrow didn't exactly hook me but after watching Flash and Supergirl and realizing how close Barry and Kara or with Oliver I got into the rest of the arrowverse. I just finished the 8th season of Arrow and as much as it is hard to pick favorites Arrow is up there on top of the list for me ❤️
They really should make Arrow a lot more snarky instead of this brooding guy, I mean he doesn't really kill anymore so why keep him in this Bruce Wayne persona ripoff instead of being the Green Arrow in the comics? Sure, make him serious during the big fights but give him more quips and banters when he's fighting small times or filler guys.
Thats the thing. Hes developing and thats why the show is great IMO. Dont expect him to be just like his comic character but I'm sure later on he'll be close.

Hmm perhaps. Lets hope in season 3 they keep it balanced.
My response is that, a man who goes out at night and kills, beats or cripples other human beings should NOT be a snarky dickhead about it.For me, the act of vigilantism requires that he be a self critical, considerate person in order to remain morally vigilant over his own actions. In season two, it's true that he doesn't kill any more (imo a saving grace). But he is still doing something completely morally ambiguous and thus should constantly feel uneasy in his day to day life.
I will say though that I love the entertainment value of smack talkers like Spiderman and the Flash and if they do evolve Arrow into a more light hearted character, I certainly won't complain as I love his personality in the comics :)
Watch Supernatural, please watch Supernatural. It will take over your life and you will love it. There are nine seasons (with a tenth one on the way), so it's gonna take some time.
I'm pretty sure Jeremy isn't a 15 year old female. Meaning he doesn't really do "fandom" (don't get me wrong the show is decent but IMO Tyrant on FX is better
Supernarural is one of my favorite shows but I feel like they're dragging out the show longer than it needs to be. The show isn't going anywhere to me. I watched 8 seasons in like 2 or 3 weeks then I watched the 9th & realized it's the same stuff over & over. I tried to finish the 9th season but I lost interest in the show.
Loved season 4 and 5. Thought season 6 was absolutely terrible. Stopped after that haha.
Supernatural died after season 5. It became porn to weird fangrils after that.
At 20 plus episodes each its not a show its an addiction like heroin or cocaine. That being said the show is fantastic up until season 5

Darn you, Jeremy. I'll see your movie reviews and go to the theater the next day on your recommendation, but when you recommended Arrow, I knew I had to sit down and marathon it too because you never steer me wrong with your recommendations. Five days later, and i'm done with season 1. Totally right. Bad ass show.

Oh come on! He is though! Not only does he keep up the charade of his previous personality when he needs to, but he quickly removes any chance of the police connecting him to Green Arrow. Something Bruce didn't do

After reading most of these comments I can see why Marvel is winning.. They're giving all of their characters chance to shine, I mean Ant man is even getting his own movie... but the moment DC gives another character a chance the Bat patrol comes in as to why it should be Batman or how it's lame compared to Batman or why Batman is better than Batman...

To be frank, the series has become a bad carbon copy of "The Dark Knight" trilogy. It has become very predictable, character development is weak, unnecessary romances, too many borrowed elements from Nolan's Batman movies, and too many cheesy moments that did not work. I'll give season 3 one more shot but overall, Arrow is failing me personally. Especially after season 2.

The romance in Arrow is a complete and utter mess. But the characters in Arrow are almost EXACTLY written like Nolan's Batman characters and characters from the comics:
Felicity = Oracle
Diggle = young black Alfred
Laurel = Rachel Dawes
Det. Lance = Nolan's Gordon
Vertigo = cartoon version of Scarecrow
Brother Blood = Nolan's Scarecrow running for office
Malcom = Nolan's Bane and Ra's al Ghul
Arrow = Nolan's Batman
I can go on. But while watching Arrow S1 & 2, these characters kept reminding me of Nolan's Batman characters and the way they were written for those films. I can NOT get passed it and felt like there are other ways that can make Green Arrow fit in a dark, gritty universe without eating Nolan's plate and regurgitating it.

I disagree i feel arrow and batman are very different after watching 5 seasons of it so far. Arrow has lots of differences from batman or the nolan batman movies. He doesnt lose his parents as a kid instead they lose him on a island for 5 years thinking he died. Then he returns home to his family. He has a family in the show. feels like 2 shows in 1 present day and flashbacks. He actually kills people unlike batman. He has his mom stepdad sister ex girlfriend who he cheated on her with her sister on the boat. He has a best friend name tommy. Other than there both dc and both have no superpowers and come from a wealthy family thats the only similarly. Oliver queen is very much different than bruce wayne. I feel the arrow tv show is better than the nolan batman films anyways. In the batman movies i felt michael keaton was the best.
Alex L. The count is a drug dealer making lots of money providing people with ways to get high he is not like the scarecrow at all. Malcom is not like ras or bane. He is though the leagues number 1 best student outranking all other members of the league which means he outranks batman. What about china white, bronze tiger, brick, damian dark, tommy, cupid, thea, sara, black canary, the huntress, slade wilson, deadshot, captain bommerang, anarchy to name a few more. The show has done so good there now is 3 shows added to the arrow verse we have the flash legends of tomorrow and supergirl and might get more. The flash so far has done the best of all 4 of them . But i disagre with arrow being like batman. There are more differences between batman and arrow than similarities
i am currently rewatching arrow season 1 and im on episode 7.....each episode is as great as i remember and im just here raging and trying to figure out what went wrong.

I myself did say "wow the Island story is getting awesome, can we stay here?" I wasn't sure how they would balance the Island story and the Present day story but they did very well and kept them interesting in both seasons! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Season 2

What the hell? It's like everyone in the comment section suddenly became haters/assholes... This was a great show! And I have to ask, what cliches are everyone talking about!? Anyways... Jeremy, if you enjoyed season 1, you'll enjoy season 2 even more.
I also liked the first Season of Arrow and it pulled me right into the second season (which is now airing in Germany). One reason is, that they avoid the "mistakes" they did with Smallville in its first three seasons, by ignoring almost any comic lore. It was just weekly mutants, Lex Luthor and some witchcraft stuff (I think). The big picture came up with season 4.
Arrow does (almost) everything right. There are references to the lore right from the start (Deathstrokes mask, "Speedy", the Lance's, Roy Harper etc.). It felt directly as a DC based series.
The only complain I have is, that the Starling City-Story arc is basically Batman Begins and in some ways, it's a little bit disappointing, because there were these three big movies with the same tone and agenda.
But nevertheless it's a great and (still) a gritty show. Although (the character of) Arrow isn't that violent anymore, his enemies are badass.
Looking forward to the rest of Season 2 and the upcoming 3rd Season.
I started getting into Arrow and one thing I loved about the first season was the music. My sister loves the vampire diaries, so I had watched most of it to see what it was all about. There are some interesting moments, but I just started to get burnout from all the typical CW stuff. Arrow season 1 doesn't have a lot of pop music going on to fuel the soundtrack. Even though it hasn't escaped the CW unscathed it does try really hard to give a solid story. I also love the humor the show can have sometimes. I also don't know a lot about the Green Arrow villains, lol, but i think it's good so that i won't have expectations and can be surprised where their characters go. It's my favorite CW show now.
The first two episodes just really didn't do it for me, and it mainly had to do with Stephen Amelle as Oliver Queen and partly his sister. Stephen Amelle just didn't sell me as an interesting character he just felt like eye candy that happened to kick ass. And Oliver's sister, don't even get me started, I will never like bratty teenage stereotype characters like her and she is basically the Lana Lang of Arrow (I'm talking about Smallville's Lana Lang). I'll give this entire season a watch, mainly cause I wanna see what they're going to do with The Flash, but I'm still thinking it's gonna be another CW show that I can't get into like Supernatural.
They do play her off pretty stereotypically in the first few episodes, but she gets better as the show goes on.
She does have some pretty serious character arcs, and the way they just set her up for series 3 is perfect.
The first 10 episodes didnt do it for me. Its okay. But it has that CW "feel" that just turns me off.
I was the same, trust me. I hated the first few episodes of season one. I actually stopped watching it because all the character just seemed like a bunch of rich kid assholes. But then someone mentioned that Slade would be in it, and i decided to give it another chance. Best decision ever. The show is truly amazing, you just have to learn that the characters are not what they seem to be.

Ineedgames false. Action movies were strongest in the 80s. Predator, Commando, Rambo 1 2 & 3, Terminator. I would argue then end of action movies being 93's classic The Last Action Hero. I have no life.
But superhero movies have been pretty big since Superman came out. There has been ups and downs along the way but I would not call it a fad exactly.
Yes, at first I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't going to be the same actor who played Oliver queen in Smallville, but that was very quickly cast out of my mind and I couldn't be happier with Stephen Amell! Dude does most of his own stunts and I love how they made him darker.

I like longer seasons because you can get more than one major story arc in. The show seems interesting, but so many of the shows I've seen lately have been serious that I want something more light-hearted.

Yes! Hannibal desperately needs the publicity, too, ESPECIALLY considering how good it's gotten.
The first few episodes are killer-of-the-week-ish stuff to establish the characters and plant the seeds for future events, but after that it branches into its main story arc. It hits a high, and it's been consistently maintaining that high. I felt a void after finishing season 2 that even Game of Thrones couldn't fill.
I'd buy "The Chicks of Arrow" calendar.
One of the many problems I had was that the fact that he spent 5 years on the island was mentioned at least once every episode. And it was mentioned about 100 times the first couple of episodes.
The good thing about the filler episodes though is that there are always island scenes. And that does get you through the pointless to the story episodes. But arrow has found a way to always start off the first five minutes or last five minutes continuing the story even in filler episodes.
Well Jeremy's right. Throughout the show I haven't seen too many unattractive girls. Laurels hot, Thea's hot, Huntress is hot, shadows hot, Felicity....... Not unattractive. Ok I can see she's pretty but I don't think she's as hot as most of the other girls in this show.
I don't know, Felicity is attractive in the nerdy and innocent way. She's just a different kind of attractive.

i wish it it was cheesy, it's too serious and that gets old. The lighting is also really cheap and dark. If you're not watching in HD you can barely see the characters.

Did anyone notice that the number on Oliver Queens prison jumpsuit, when he is arrested for being the vigilante, is the hex code for the colour emerald green (Google it I did) just wondering if anyone noticed that little easter egg. I only searched it because the numbers were so clear and always in shot with Oliver it had to meen somat and it is a call to the colours he wears.
It's ok, but I'm tired of the dark shows tbh.

To me, Person of Interest is a show that you think is going to get old or be boring, but it definitely doesn't. It's a really good show.

The first couple of episodes of Arrow season 1 where a bit slow for me, but by the fourth I was hooked. Then the second season was just plain awesome!
Just finished season 1. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I went in with low expectations but now I can honestly say that I'm pleasantly surprised! While the plot may have been cliche at some points and the love triangle thing got a little too predictable, it was never unbearable for me. It all worked and yes, it got better over time. I'm glad I stuck with it. The action sequences are intense and the characters, while sometimes fitting into a mold, are rather interesting. Now, this is coming from someone who has no knowledge of the actual Green Arrow character and pretty much the entire DC universe besides what's in the movies. So, if you're someone like me, you may enjoy it. I can't wait to get started on season 2! Somehow...

One of the best TV shows ever made in terms of superhero shows. If you haven't seen season 2, it literally kicks through the roof. Season 3 slighly goes downhill but is still great.
Also I tried to watch Arrow but eh, it's not much for me. I guess it's more of "if you can pay attention long enough, you'll eventually get emotionally invested and continue to watch" which is what I get from a lot of fans. Fun but not particularly good or amazing in any way? The way Supernatural is now (except with SPN the first couple seasons were still solid).
